It's also a 10-minute walk to the Victoria & Albert Museum and about a 15 minute walk to Kensington Gardens (a lovely public park). Lots of pluses. 1. First, it's a historic, elegant Victorian hotel built in the 1870s and restored in the 1990s. The nicest part of the hotel is the grand interior staircase. One plus is that an elevator (lift) is available if you're staying on the upper floors. 2. The rooms are clean and tastefully decorated with a small desk. However, the classic double room is quite small. I stayed in Room 137 (overlooking the tube station) and it felt like a studio apartment in New York City). If you don't mind cozy spaces, this is a good option for a short stay. 3. You have a simple temperature control gauge in your room next to the front door. If it's a hot summer day, be sure to turn up the A/C. In London, I noticed folks tend not to use A/C as much as in the United States. There were a few minuses as well. Given the small-sized interior rooms and bathroom (well-designed but tiny), I don't think it's great for families (with kids) or large groups. Also, at check-in, the hotel staff could be clear about the 50 pound deposit for incidentals, and explain that you need to put your key in the slot near your hotel room door to activate all the lights.

I've never really wanted to linger in a room when you have the city to explore but hearing the water lap against the rocks is relaxing. Plus, it's right by a train station. The Blackfriars stop goes right to Kings Cross, which goes to Heathrow. I'm glad we took the chance on this place because we were extremely happy. NOTES: BATHROOM: The shower had the strongest water pressure I've experienced in a hotel for an overhead rain faucet. When I see one, I'm always wary. I don't want a gentle rain, I want a monsoon. I want a turbulent tsunami of rainfall to actually wash away the shampoo in my hair. This does it. TOILETRIES: DS Durga Debaser. I have never heard of this brand but it grew on me to the point that I headed to Liberty to pick up a set of their greatest hits fragrances. I have been influenced. CONS: The only very minor criticism I have for this hotel is the sink, it's a shallow basin. I will spit out my toothpaste and it will splash all over the mirror. We had taken the optional full-breakfast addition. Best decision ever! The variety of tasty food of all kinds was amazing. We also used the hotel restaurant for several dinners and were extremely satisfied with the quality. The location of the hotel is ideal, particularly with regard to travel via wheelchair. It was nice to get up every morning to see the many people exiting Black friars underground and train station across the street and remind me I am not at home. It is very convenient with Black Friars underground right across the street which is on the circle and district line with easy access out to Westminster, the area around Parliament building, and the City. It is easily accessible to a majority of London's main train stations. It is a quick walk to the St Paul's and the Central line Underground station nearby. The Millennium bridge is close by to visit the Tate modern or attend a play at the Globe. Walking along the Thames, it is about a 35 minute walk to Westminster area. Fleet street is nearby with many small restaurants and pubs. Right across the street is Blackfriars Pub which is definitely worth a visit. Right next door is a Tesco express where you can grab some take home snacks and drinks. Breakfast is expensive. It is cheaper to get breakfast down the street at Starbucks or other coffee shop down the street if your more into a coffee and pastry type. Wi Fi is free if your a IHG member which I would definitely recommend. It is outrageously expensive to pay out of pocket for it. If you have access to the lounge upstairs, service and the amenities are excellent. I love the number of newspapers available to read. The gym is nice with the usual free weights and typical running and elliptical workout machines available. I would definitely stay here again as the service was good and location is perfect for running around town.

Many good restaurants, markets, & it's 20 minutes by tube or bus to Central London. Seriously, this is a must place to stay. You won't regret it.
