If you enjoy waking up at 7am to the sound of lawn mowers every single morning- move here! Whoever they are paying to mow also doesn't know what he's doing and takes 4+ hours every time. The walls are paper thin here and I can also hear every one of my neighbors smoke alarms beep from low batteries all hours of the day. Talk about luxury! I would hope with all of these gas appliances ONE fire alarm per unit my neighbors smoke alarms are being regularly maintained... oh well! Maybe I'll wake up to the lawn mower first and make it out of the fire! read more

I recently moved into a home costing about the same as these apartments. There's nothing luxurious about them. Front office staff always has an attitude no matter who you talk to. When you report an issue or even go through the portal to document it, it disappears. Maintenance either doesn't show up or shows up late. Always super nice and helpful. It's just the front office must not dispatch them properly. I was super pregnant last winter and asked for a little bucket of ice melt because I'd already slipped twice. They kept saying oh yea we will drop some off for you. Instead they did a super crappy job laying some down. Then when I just drove over and waddled myself up to the office with my tiny bucket, they tried giving me little ice things for the bottom of my shoes instead of what they'd already said they'd give me. Ummm. Yea I can barely get my shoes on by themselves how am I getting these on and off too?! Smh. Don't be fooled by the pictures either. When we moved in our carpet was "brand new" but was already pulling up by the front door. Huge laceration in the plastic on the floor in the kitchen. The apartment was dirty and I had to clean it myself upon move in. The appliances are very old. Our smoke detector went off anytime we cooked. I was making soup the first time it went off. SOUP!!!! My apartment also had a real bad mold problem. There was ice forming in the corner of the closet. The insulation just wasn't doing its job so every time the snow melted outside the inner corner got soaking wet then refroze. The guy said he'd come back and fix it. I'm pretty sure it's still like that. He never came back. You could literally see the insulation from the OUTSIDE of the building because it wasn't covered or protected. These apartments also back up to another set of apartments owned by the same company. Those apartments are anything but luxury and every night they come alive. Especially on the weekends. The hood comes alive and all the drunk people in Alaska get together to party and fight. I don't think there was ever a Thursday Friday or Saturday when the police weren't called to break up a fight or a loud party. Neighbors wouldn't pick up dog poop. This one lady I reported multiple times would let her dog crap in front of my door and not pick it up. When everything defrosted I had to pick up all the turds. Smh. Then when the bag dispenser runs out of bags people in the complex fill it up with whatever bags we got. Here's the problem though, they won't empty the Can that's there for all the poopy bags. So it just sits and stinks up the place. There's a ton of moose through here every winter too. It's just a lot of things that are common sense don't make sense to them. read more

They do not have a working hot tub. They have not had a hot tub for a long time. They charge a cleaning fee and a carpet cleaning fee on move out, even if it is spotless and you cleaned the carpets. They say it must be done professionally as identified in the lease. They cite Alaska law as the reason why they have to clean the carpets and the apartment, but Alaska law does not say that the cost should be passed on to the tenant. Steer clear of this place. It is not worth the cost of rent. The staff in the front office are friendly in the "bless your heart" kind of way. They blame everything wrong in the community on Weidner, even though they are the employees who should be doing upkeep. Landscaping was never done correctly. Nothing about this place is luxurious. Appliances are old and finishes are cheap. read more

I used to love living in these apartments . Pretty , vaulted ceilings , has fire place . I was a renter for 3 years . In that time my rent was raised $500/month . Their customer service is poor . They don't return phone calls despite multiple messages . They are unhelpful . I do have to mention their maintenance department is excellent with good response times . Not luxurious at all, front office is a revolving door of new faces and thwyre usually snotty. Outdated appliances. Security deposit magically got all used up for 2 1/2 hours of cleaning and small paint repair. Despite me deep cleaning the entire apartment. Took almost an entire month to post my final rent check so it could be paid. My truck got broken into and the front office did nothing despite telling them. Front gate is always broken or not working properly. People don't clean up after their dogs in the winter. The rent is absurd for just a single bedroom/bath. Would not reccomend read more

I was very disappointed with this company and the managers at the apartment complex. I signed a year lease could have signed six months but had no intentions of leaving. I got transferred with my job and had to pay them 2000 even after telling the. 45 days in advance . I was only there half of each month I lived there and never even hung a picture on the wall.I never went in guest bedroom and they claimed it had to be cleaned . So lost half of the deposit as well. Also you are paying for the added benefits of a jacuzzi which was broke and the business office to use computer and printer this did not work the entire time I was there. read more

I lived at the Highlands from 2017 - 2018. The following is my review: Area - The area around the apartments is dangerous. I witnessed 3 arrests (including 1 sting) in my year there. The apartments are on top of a hill that doesn't see much traffic. There is sometimes a security guard but they don't check ANY cars entering. There is construction going on behind the apartments, so you may get a view of a senior living home. Apartment - Some are upgraded, some are not. I had cheap/old appliances, and water damage in the bathroom that was never fixed, and a "trailer-park" level shower. Moveout - I'm not a professional cleaner, but I left my apartment fairly clean. They charged me almost $500 to clean it, including the carpet. I never wore shoes inside, and vacuumed regularly. Charges included $40 to clean the blinds - IN EACH room (so I paid over $100 to clean blinds). I was charged $40 to clean a sink that was already clean. $40 to clean a toilet that was scrubbed and bleached. Expect to be taken advantage of on move out. This place has business the ethics of Harvey Weinstein. Mail - I was never able to "safely" receive mail here. I received the wrong mail on a weekly basis, and had mail go missing routinely. I had to have my important mail sent to my friend's house. Overall - At the price point their charging, you can do better. The lack of ethics during the move out process influenced me to write this review. The mail situation was a real problem. I would say my apartment should have cost $950/mo, however I paid over $1300 for it. Learn from my mistakes. read more

I just got done living at these apartment homes for About a year now and overall the living experience wasn't terrible. The apartments themselves are very nice and the hot tub was a plus. We've had occasional issues with our neighbors here and there over noise complaints but nothing an email sent to the director couldn't fix. The issue here was moving out. My husband got news of deployment and they made it very difficult to not pay an extra months rent to terminate our lease since his official orders paperwork wasn't attainable 30 days before we wanted to move and terminate our lease. Whenever I had issues at the apartment or my husband was away for work I felt that they wouldn't work with me as nicely as they did with my husband . For example our bank account got hacked and they offered to take away the late payment fee so we could pay rent when we had access to our money, but later on after his deployment the payment didn't for through due to a 60 cent difference, and they wouldn't cut me a break while I was dealing with it all alone. I felt they gave me more issues since he was gone. Our walk through when I handed over my keys they said they needed to charge me for cleaning fees for things that were "normal wear and tear" but after dealing with them for a month and moving out alone, I just agreed to pay an extra $250 in cleaning fees to be over and done with it. My advice to my fellow military families is Don't rent from here they really weren't accommodating to an abrupt deployment order and made it much more difficult for me Because my husband was gone. I don't think renting from the Weidner company as a whole is wise. read more

My fiance and i have been living in these apartments for a few months now, and it's an OK place to live. Honestly there is nothing luxurious about these apartments. All of the appliances are decent and work well. But you would think there would be updated appliances for the price of rent that you pay. The main office has a hot tub, gym, and club room. The hot tub area has been under construction since we moved in and still isn't finished, AND the jets stopped working last week... its still closed. The "gym" is more of a work out room, very small with only a few machines. The staff is very friendly and always greet residents promptly. During the winter they keep the parking lot clear of snow, and make sure it's safe for residents to walk around. The walls in the apartments are thin. On several occasions we have heard conversations, television, and sexual encounters. For us this is the biggest issue. This is all tolerable for us, but after a year, when our lease is up we do not plan to stay any longer. read more

First, the Apartments are far from what I expected; as to their claim to be "Luxury Apartment Homes". I was very disappointed in several areas. The Security Gate worked for 1 day and then malfunctioned. It has not been repaired since the Spring malfunction. The sound issues are far from Luxury Apartments. I could hear all my surrounding neighbors; to include voices, televisions, radios and intimate moments. The quality of the building's sound barriers was very disappointing. If you have a neighbor that is extremely loud, you will be told that 10:00 pm is the start of quite hour. So, if you are a shift-worker...I would advise to look elsewhere for an Apartment . Bottom line: This is a lower end Apartment that permits pets. I would never recommend these apartments to anyone. read more

I was really excited about downsizing into these apartments. The renting process was absolutely flawless and even helpful. I believe Shannon is the reason for this. She was understanding and creative working with her boss to get us in. That's where 1 star is earned. As the days passed after move in I put in electronic work orders for the board heaters that clicked and clacked all day and night keeping us from sleeping and very frustrated. I ended up calling to see the status of the work order and couldn't reach anyone so I walked up to the office. Low and behold the staff is gathered in one office talking away, then they peer at me like I'm disturbing them... I figure that it must have been a staff meeting and just put in my request verbally and leave. It took 12 days for anyone to come for the maintenance. Maintenance left a completion slip to say they fixed it but the heaters are still singing the song of their people (just as loudly) every single day/night. There was also a work order completion slip that a light fixture was requested to be fixed by us as well.... Didn't submit that so...? Fast forward throughout my stay and there have been other nuisance issues that guarantee I'll NEVER refer a friend to these apartments. A continuous thing being the impossibilty of contacting the office staff by phone and they have never responded to ANY voice mail messages. Then when I go into the office, the staff are gathered into one office having yet another famous "office meeting"........ Everytime I went...... Morning, noon, or afternoon.... Leering at my intrusion. The running joke in my home is to, "Try to catch them before they start early lunch, extended lunch or go home early." They also have a very uncoordinated payment dashboard that doesn't line up with any utility billing system so we are very confused each time the bills come around. The parking is annoying at best but not impossible, so long as you get home early, and don't leave for anything short of an emergency, you have a decent chance in finding a spot.... so that's where I give a half of star. Of course the apartment living, close quarters, thin walls experience (loud music, loud conversation and loud sex)... All of which are pretty standard apartment experiences, imo and in no way a reflection of the actual apartment owners/staff. If you're looking for quiet, don't look here. My unit had an upgraded gas stove and a really nice big tub. So that's the other half star. Overall, due to the lack of hospitality and care of the office staff, maintenance delays, and parking issues I absolutely HATE living in this place. Once you sign the lease you forfeit their concern... Then it's downhill from there... Good luck looking elsewhere. apartment size and closet size are very good. noise insulation between apartments is terrible. heard husband beating wife, arguing and throwing things in middle of night or people having relations (very uncomfortable). residents dont pick up their animal feces even tho a station with bags and trash can are provided everywhere on the grounds. maintainence responds pretty quickly to any needs and grounds are kept up nicely. gargage is heated which is nice in winter. club house is very nice and you have access to a tanning bed, exercise room and computers read more

My husband and I lived here for two years (Jan. 2015- Jan. 2017). I can attest to the outrageous move out fees referred to in an earlier review. We were charged over $2,000 in move out fees. $900 of that $2,000 charge was to replace the carpets. There were no egregious stains or smells in the carpet, and it was regularly vacuumed. Prior to moving out, one of the staff members from the complex's office management did a walk-through with me and agreed that the carpet would be washed after we moved out but did not need to be replaced. The carpet did show some age (some of the areas were "less fluffy" than others), but this was normal wear and tear of carpet that had lived through multiple tenants, not unique damage done by us during our leasehold. We were very disappointed in the unprincipled practices of this apartment complex and would not recommend it. read more

I have rented from the Highland Apartment complex on three separate occasions but this last time has been absolutely awful. The prior two rental experiences were satisfactory and I never called in any complaints. Unfortunately, this is not the case with my current experience where I have called numerous times and to no satisfactory avail. I have obnoxiously noisy neighbors who commence guitar/ band practice around midnight on a work night or have their tv on full volume to where I can hear every word of their program. Supposedly there are quiet hours but one wouldn't know as they are not enforced. Honestly, this place is louder than my college dorm experiences. Noise complaints to management are ether downplayed with empty promises or ignored. I have been given the security guard's cell phone number but that only works when he's on shift. Rent is exorbitant for a one bedroom apartment particularly when I frequently sleep on the couch trying to escape the noise of my neighbors reverberating through the bedroom wall. One would think there would be a better strategy in place for dealing with chronic relentless noisy tenants. I can assure you as soon as my lease is up I'm leaving and would never recommend renting here again unless the management strategy and situation vastly improves. This place is supposedly a luxury complex but units are outdated and were designed very poorly indeed. read more
