We were early for our wedding as the courthouse is right across the street. Easy process for a license and convenient. Rachel was our officiant and spent plenty of time getting to know us and our background before proceeding. We all felt at ease after our conversation. We opted for the just us package and was blown away with the finesse she handled the wedding. We were overjoyed with our process and highly recommend this chapel for small or larger needs. My son's wedding was held at the Fort Stevens Chapel since the Hitching Post was being remodeled. The wedding service itself was wonderful. The photographer they provided was awful!!! Most all of the pictures were underexposed and extremely out of focus. None of them will be able to be enlarged for framing. If you get married there, please hire your own photographer. Don't pay them to take crappy pictures. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. About them: it's run by possibly the cutest people on earth. The minister (pastor?) was amazing, and it's very obvious that this is important to him. About us: this was an EXTREMELY last minute (I was in sweatpants and sandals) wedding, because we needed to get it done (long story, we've been together for 10 years). I'm an atheist, and my husband isn't far behind. They are NOT joking when they say it's a Christian ceremony. That being said, he read this incredibly heartfelt passage that was hand written in a journal that looked like it's been used since the dawn of time. Nothing about it felt casual, or like we showed up there in sweatpants and sandals. It was INCREDIBLE. I will be grateful to them for the rest of my life. I did not get to have the big beautiful wedding I've always dreamed of, but this *felt* like a wedding. It's decorated beautifully, we were treated with respect, and what he had written was breathtakingly intimate, in the sense of what being with someone for the rest of your life truly means. In summary: if you're on a budget or time crunch (or both), you won't regret being married here. read more

Paid for the full package! The owners are very nice and the pastor that married us was friendly and very encouraging! They made our small ceremony so so special! My husband's grandparents were married there and it was an honor to recreate it! I loved the love lock ceremony and was able to take my own pictures in addition to the pictures they took for us! This was exactly perfect for my ceremony. The mans name who officiated my ceremony went by the name of DON, and may I just say - what a lovely person. I felt instantly warm, and a sincere joy and maybe even like he knew me, like he cared about me and my to be husband. There are options as to the packages available for your ceremony.. rings? Being walked down the aisle? Etc etc..and I promise if you call ahead and ask your questions someone (it was Don for myself) will answer you with patience and enthusiasm.. oh and if you get so excited you forget your wedding license at home and have to go back to get it and you're running late, they will wait on you, lol! Oof. This is a bit long, but quite detailed, because I wasn't 100% aware of what I was walking into - hoping to spare someone else the shock/surprise. I got married here in August, knowing what to expect as far as what the place looked like. My parents were married here when I was a child and I'm pretty sure nothing has even moved an inch since then. Everything is exactly the same 25 years later, even the old abused carpet. It's a good enough place to do a quickie ceremony at to make things legal, but it would have been nice to know a few things first. First - The quality of the photos was awful. We got maybe one usable photo. The rest were all out of focus, our eyes were closed, we were looking different directions, the sun was in our eyes causing us to squint, timing was off so the kisses were missed, etc. I also wasn't aware that the ceremony itself wouldn't be photographed, so that was disappointing as well. I would have liked to have a picture of our first kiss, even if it was blurry. Second - We were forced to sign a contract stating that we weren't gay or transgender, which was a bit shocking to say the least. I was definitely uncomfortable at that point, but it's not like I could have been like "you know, Nevermind, I'm not going to get married today" so I just signed it and went on with it. I was unaware until that moment that we were getting married at a religious establishment. Turns out, SUPER religious. We didn't get a choice in the matter. We're not religious at all so it was pretty uncomfortable and weird to go through our wedding ceremony with it being all directly from the bible. It would have been nice to opt for just simple vows. Third - The couple after us wanted to have their dog there. The woman at the desk (who also does the photos) got all weird about it and used the excuse "because of the whole covid thing" (dogs don't transmit covid though??) and wanted the guy to leave his dog out in the car in the summer heat. The pastor was completely fine with dogs being inside the chapel but the guy waited outside until we finished up anyway. This woman just kept going on and on about how she just doesn't think dogs should be allowed inside and she doesn't like dogs, even though the pastor said he likes dogs and loves having them as part of the ceremonies. It was a weird vibe all around. Fourth - We reserved our time a week ahead and paid a deposit to hold it. We got there a little early and were still forced to wait until AFTER our time to see if another couple was showing up because they double booked that time slot, but the other couple never paid a deposit. Lastly - they're extremely unorganized and just kind of plop marriage licenses all over the front desk (mixing them up and confusing who is who), forget to book reservations, and obviously double book time slots. It seems like nobody really knows what's going on at any given time. I think it's fair to say I threw away the fridge magnet. I definitely will not be recommending this place to anyone. Like I said, it's good enough. But it's not a place to go if you actually want any level of professionalism or even some nice photos to remember the day by. read more

Its a great place... Common beliefs and fully supportive of the proper union. Why force others to perform a service that they don't believe in? This was the perfect place for our marriage. We have both been married before. So much less stress and headache than trying to put a big wedding together. I didn't get my dress or honeymoon the first time around. This time I did the dress, hair, (thank you Emily), nails, flowers, and We couldn't have been happier. They took care of the licensing and it was back with in a week. read more

Pastor was so very friendly and welcoming, the chapel was quaint, ceremony was just the right amount of time, and we were able to get married 3 hours before my original reservation with no problem! I like how they believe in their religion so strongly that they will not desecrate their beliefs to accommodate something that infringes on their freedom of religion. Aristotle once said that the strongest thing that two humans can come together to do is to create another human being I agree that this is true. Gays do make good parents , but in all ways , but love is completely different so just drop the ignorance and stop treating others the way others once discriminated against you. You don't deserve to tell others that their religion is wrong. The constitution says so. The fact is same sex couples can only acquire not create children so change your title of marriage you are not the same definition for countless reasons. I have never been treated so rudely. It took them 4 calls and over 2 weeks for a call back to us and when they did finally call, the questions they asked were unprofessional and rude!! Including, asking what "kind of people" will be there at our event. Not answering our questions about the venue size, location, sunset area, etc, and just having US verbally answer some sort of back woods, 1945, hick checklist. I couldnt believe it. I will be sure my 5 generations of CDA family knows about this location and to steer clear. Such a disgrace to a beautiful town. We were so looking forward to using this space for a few of our family's summertime events. Now, we'll just stick to the backyard. read more

Loved it!! Picked this place for what they stand for and their Christian beliefs. Was super simple and everyone was so nice! The price was great as well! Didn't have to decorate or worry about anything, being the bride, it was nice for someone else to worry about that! read more

Why do you want to impose the tyranny of your belief system on someone else? Have you not seen the sign in most private businesses that states that they "Reserve the right to refuse service," or perhaps, "No shirt, No shoes, No service." You should applaud the Hitching Post for exercising their Constitutional and moral right to stand on their beliefs. I just got married there! It's clearly not for everyone, but they provide a very nice, straightforward, reasonably priced and traditional ceremony. They were sincere, personable and professional. And incidentally, when I questioned them, they had nothing negative or hateful to say about those of you who have posted such angry and hypocritical reviews. In fact, they graciously grant you the right to believe differently. Oh, and by the way, they do not marry nudists (in the nude), polyamorous, or bigamist individuals, either.
