Nice place hot water clean fun and free. The main pool was very hot so went to side pool. The facility is public with changing rooms and showers. No charge the Native Americans requested that the facility be made available for all. There is a small rough built with rocks at the river with a little beach that's also available. The facility is "meh". The hot springs come in two gradients, way hot, and extreme. You can also take something like a lawn chair and sit in the North Platte River and find the same temperatures. Beware. Both the river and hot springs facility can be mighty hot. If you're a "don't hurt me" person, don't go in either the river or the facility. You can simply plop into the river if you'd like. Nature will heat you quickly. Get out before you think you need to do so-- I'm not kidding. Temps vary a lot and you could get literally cooked. Generally it's just really good but use your body as a guide to safety. There is high mineral content to the water. Most positions in the main area are a minimum of 102F, and that base can go higher. There is plenty of parking. The shower house is not unlike a prison facility without bars, no toilet seat lids (stainless steel stools) or any real privacy, if you need that. The showers and sink work, and were clean each time I visited. These are *not* deluxe facilities.. Outside that facility, you must be clothed in something; the locals use swimsuits. There are lockers to store your gear; bring your own padlock. Stuff is pretty safe otherwise. Saratoga is a small town, and street crime seems zero. I've been here several times. The town could upgrade the facility, but it's free and not a revenue producer. The adjacent municipal pool is good and has varying hours/programs/costs. The facility is about a 3 star. But the two hot springs + the North Platte River "sitz" are some of the best you'll find-- and are free. The area has a lot of charm. It's worth a side trip from I-80 or Medicine Bow. read more

A rustic, relaxing, therapeutic and sometimes intense experience. It's not a luxury facility, and I don't mind that at all. Wear water shoes, since you will feel like you are wading in a pond. Water is very hot, and there is a small hot tub sized pool off to the side that is the source of the heat. That tub is incredibly intense, like the opposite of an ice bath. You will feel like you are going to die, but you won't. Just breathe through the pain, it is worth it. read more

I think the split on reviews here indicates it's all about having the right expectations. And I think being known as the "Hobo Hot Springs" does a pretty good job setting them. Yeah the shower/bathrooms are city park level institutional, and pools are no frills, but it's a pretty great thing to be free and accessible at all times. It'd probably be tolerable in winter, but I found even the far end of the main Hobo pool too hot for more than a leg dip and only saw a couple hardy people submerging there. The smaller "Not So Hot Pool" was manageable and more popular. And it's really cool to explore where the water drains into the river, where you can soak in warm natural pools and several kids were catching crayfish. read more

We came to Saratoga for these pools and they didn't disappoint. Great hot springs, free hot springs and showers. We got to see a moose across the river from the springs which was cool. Go early in the morning is a great time with a small amount of people. Weekend nights seemed to be the most crowded, we went by to see it around 8 on Friday and definitely is the place to be cause it was crowded, but that was the only time we went when it was too crowded. read more

The hobo pool is a quaint place for a relaxing soak! We drove 2 hours to get there and weren't disappointed. Lots of options for variable temperatures depending on where you sit. The main pool has a gradient from the hot to warm, from the stairs to the wall. The pool to the side is a bit more on the lukewarm side, but is a refreshing change if you want to be able to sit in the sun, or need a break from the heat. Ewww. If you combine a prison with a hot spring, you come up with the Hobo Pool. The bathroom was unclean, none of the toilets had doors, the changing area was out in the open and scary dirty. Sketchy would be a kind word for it. There is a community, pay for use pool next door that was only slightly better. For the community, paid pool, they have a "lifeguard". I put lifeguard in quotes because the teenager was wearing full street clothes, including socks and tennis shoes and looked very uninterested in helping when someone was in distress and called for help. Luckily, the patrons swam to assist and helped the person in distress to the side of the pool where the lifeguard (who was out of the pool) held out a hand to help. We took a detour from Laramie to visit, and we all regretted the trip. read more

The Hot Springs was beautiful and HOT! The weather was great and the springs weren't overcrowded. I was on a roadtrip and we made sure to make this a pit-stop. A few take-aways: 1) the changing rooms/bathrooms are gross! Change before you go or change in your car. 2) No attendants are onsite and this is 24hr so be mindful of that( No creeping suspects are walking around). 3) This is a ways off of the beaten path. Don't think its a few turns and your there. Its a 20mile road with no lights to get there. 4) The main pool is HOT HOT HOT, I strongly advise that you use the side pool. Have fun and the best part is that is FREE!! read more

Really awesome spot hidden in this little town off the main highway about 10 miles. Way cleaner than we could have imagined and all the locals were super nice. Great facilities. The hot springs (2 areas) are open 24 hours along with the changing areas/showers/bathroom. Pool is open during the daytime. We were expecting a random hole in the middle of nowhere but we found a solid gem. The town is really quaint also. If we ever drive through again - we will be there! read more

From First Street (Hwy 130), turn east on Walnut. Go two blocks to the end of road. You will see the swimming pool building in front, and there are sidewalks to the Hobo Pool on each side of the building. Now that that's out of the way. What an amazing free public resource. Water is as good as it gets. Sulphur smell is negligible compared to some springs. There's some cooler little rough ponds in the river below that people have made, but the actual pools are so well kept and nice. read more

Saratoga, Wyoming has lots of hot springs in the vicinity. Probably the cleanest one is at the Saratoga Inn. Then there is also the Hobo Hot Springs or for short, The Hobo Pool. Since moving to Colorado I am amazed when someone asks me where I am from and I say Saratoga about one half of them know of Saratoga because of its hot springs. The other half have never even heard of Saratoga before. The Hobo Pool is free to the general public and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That is a very nice perk to going here! Probably the coolest part about going to The Hobo Pool is when it is in the dead of winter and snowing and you climb into the pool and you are practically naked and it is snowing all around you and it is not cold at all. The snow flakes barely hit the water before melting instantly and there is steam everywhere. Sometimes the steam is so thick that you can't see a person right in front of you. For some getting into the hot pool may be a bit much. My cousin who was drinking booze and went wading around in the hot springs passed out and my dad had to pull him out. So no drinking and swimming in The Hobo Pool or any hot springs for that matter! Parents might should let their kids go in slowly or just dabble their feet in the hot springs since it is very hot! For me The Hobo Pool is just a bit too hot. I think the average temperature is somewhere in between 117 and 120 degrees. One part of the pool is hotter than the other side. Where the stairs and a semi circle of rocks are is the hottest park. usually I like to just dunk my legs in and get warmed up that way but I went in all the way one time and it took a very long time for me to get comfortable in there. Another thing to be aware of is that people get drunk anyway despite the word of caution and have wild parties and break glass around the walking area of the pool and in the pool itself sometimes and even dive off the stone wall. The city or town of Saratoga runs The Hobo Pool and while they try their best to keep it clean sometimes there is still pieces of it everywhere. A classmate of mine once got a huge gash on the sole of his foot because of broken glass. If you can, best wear flip flops all the time when you around the pool, just to be on the safe side. For more info on The Hobo Pool there are lots of websites out there that mention The Hobo Pool but it does not have its own indvidual website itself but you will get plenty of information on it and everything you need to know by looking at those websites. The regular municipal pool opens on Labor Day and closes on Memorial Day. That pool is not free to go to but is right by The Hobo Pool so once you are done with the regular swimming pool you can go into The Hobo Pool. The Hobo Pool is one of the best things I've stumbled across in my travels. Alden C. wrote a great review that covers the basics, but he left out some others. Yes, it's open 24x7 and that includes when it's snowing! There is nothing quite like sitting in the pool when it's snowing like mad crazy around you. It's like being on another world. And the water is HOT. Don't just plunge into it as it will shock your body pretty good. I take my time and adjust to the water, feet first, then go in a bit further until I can handle it. When I took an infrared thermometer along I measured 121 in one part of the pool so heed the warnings about the heat and be cautious. The changing house is not the Taj Mahal but it's functional. Also IMHO the water definitely has a slightly sulphuric smell to it. It's noticeable, yet not bad enough to keep me out of the water. But you'll definitely want to wash off after getting out. Off the record I always feel better when I spend some time here. I can't make any health claims but I always seem to be a lot happier and needing a lot less ibuprofen for awhile after spending some time in the hobo pool. This is one of Wyoming's not so well known treasures and I'm so glad I came across it. In my opinion it's worth the drive to get to. If you visit outside of snow season plan your visit around a crossing of the Snowy Range and head over to Laramie. It's one of America's best scenic drives coupled with a good long soak in the pool! It's hard to top that and all it costs is your gas and time to get there. read more

This is a great opportunity to enjoy some hot springs for FREE without having to find some secluded backcountry spring. The facilities are nice, though sparse. It has showers, lockers, a water fountain, and picnic tables behind the shower facility. This is a great place to hit up after a long day in the mountains. It can get crowded Friday and Saturday nights. The winter is the best time to go because it is nice to soak in the pools when it is cold outside. Mornings are also a good time to go if you want to soak quitely, otherwise it is a great place to meet people and have good conversations. There is a donation box on the side of the shower building. They clean the pools out about once a week, on Sundays I think. The Hobo Pool is behind the municipal pool, so you have to walk around to the back to get to the free hot spring. I highly recommend this place! Please don't let your dogs get in the pool as their hair is gross floating around in the pool. Although it says "No Alcohol" most people won't say anything if you are not making a fool of yourself and not using glass bottles (these can break and have glass all along the gravel on the bottom). read more

Thanks to the local community/government for investing in this place. With a regular municipal pool, good facilities, the hot springs, a bit cooler side spring pool and easy access to the river, this became a hangout for our entire family for the afternoon of a recent road trip to Wyoming. The main springs pool was too hot to go in fully the day we were there so we just dipped our feet in and spent more time in the river and the main pool. read more

The Hobo Pool is one of the best things about living in Saratoga. There is a new heated changing facility and soon there will be an additional pool with slightly cooler temperatures for those who aren't able to stand the main pool (which is usually 106 degrees and up). This will be wonderful in the summer time when the water always seems hottest. The best thing for newcomers to know is in the main pool, always get in on the far end (opposite the changing building) because the side closest to the building is the hottest (and it can be really hot!). Alden C has noted some of the down sides to the hot pool, but really those things are not a given. It is usually clean and people are generally respectful. If you want to avoid drunks, don't go in the middle of the night. But there again is one of the benefits of the pool - It's open 24-7 and always free! read more
