Very good school-- some amazing teachers, some okay. Probably the biggest discrepancies are in the…read moretheology department. I had some amazing, compassionate theology teachers, and one who made me feel like I was going to hell because I wasn't Catholic. Ursuline does prepare you well for AP testing, but in some AP classes that have multiple teachers, how well you do depends almost entirely on which teacher you get as some prepare you better than others. However, the school places WAY too much emphasis on sports, and a lot of the funding is funneled into athletics. When I was there, I was a member of the Speech and Debate team. We got no attention or funding from the school, and it showed at competitions. I had to hire a separate, outside-of-school forensics coach just to know what I was doing. It was frankly embarrassing to go up against other prep schools like Hockaday and Parish, both of which had paid coaches and did very well, with no support from the school. It never really felt like a team as much as it did certain individuals (who were very good but had to figure it out for themselves with no coach) competing.

I can't believe there are no reviews yet?? Where are all those happy UA girls?…read more I graduated class of '02 and loved everything about my 4 years at UA. Coming out of Plano public schools, it was soooo refreshing to finally make some girl friends that are worth keeping (nothing against Plano, but I found my classmates to be a lot of things, but genuine was not one of them). I will have it be noted that it has been 7 years since I graduated and I still talk to my 5 best friends from high school daily (via email.. but it still counts). Friends like that are a rare find and worth every penny my precious parents spent on my tuition here. A few months ago, I went to a dinner for Bay Area Alumnae. It was so fun to see generations of UA girls and get together to hear about what is new at the school. I am really hoping to be able to do it again soon. It sounds like some major renovations are happening and it is so exciting to see our beautiful campus being so nicely maintained. Not only did I make lifelong friends here, but I received a great education and learned to be a confident and competent woman. As a parent, that is all you can ask for!

Seriously, this place prepares you in ways you don't recognize until years later, and then you're all the more appreciative when you're old enough and mature enough to appreciate such things. And as Scott said, I've made some great lifetime friends at the school, no doubt the contacts come in handy for a variety of things... One thing that this place didn't prepare me for was proper interaction with females. I was so socially awkward around girls until I learned in college how booze helps. Oh wait, I'm still socially awkward around girls. Thank you, all boys school!

Everything you need to know about the school: the school has ongoing difficulties hiring qualified…read moreteachers, which is a critical concern. The math teacher and the IB coordinator resigned last March, and as of December, no permanent replacements have been appointed. The teacher currently covering these responsibilities reportedly has no prior IB experience. Assigning teachers without confirmed IB background to senior-level classes raises serious concerns about the quality and continuity of instruction. The chemistry teacher taught online for half a year because the school was unable to secure a visa. Another teacher was hired in the middle of the year; however, the school has not provided any information regarding her IB experience or certification. This lack of transparency makes it difficult for parents to assess whether IB standards are being met. The school's salary and benefits package appears to be uncompetitive within the local market, which may explain the hiring challenges. At the same time, the school continues to allocate funds to cosmetic updates such as repainting facilities and redesigning the website through third-party contractors. This raises reasonable questions about budget priorities. Overall, student academic outcomes do not appear to be the school's primary focus. Additionally, it is publicly known that the director's wife works in UX design; beyond this, the rationale for the recent urgency to redesign the school's website remains unclear.

Imagine a place where AP courses and IB (International Baccalaureate) or FB (French Baccalaureate) diplomas are not mutually exclusive and, 1370 SAT and 30 ACT scores are the average. My experience in Hillcrest High School has so far been the worst for my sophomore year. It was the…read moreworst during my freshman year last year but this school has drained my energy enough.. The school feels like a freaking prison. The staff doesn't do their job well, the program sucks when it comes to performing arts, and most of all, students here are unrealistic. Always making me feel like an adult here and I'm a student. Last year I tried my hardest to address the teachers and Mr. Flourie about non-black students saying the N-Word. None of them did a single thing to actually prevent this problem. For example, I came to Mr. Flourie's office and addressed him about the boys who I have told constantly to stop saying the N-Word. He said he understood and he knows a lot of students come to him about this situation. I also told him if he could bring every student to the auditorium and tell them what the word means. And told him if he doesn't then I'll do it myself. Later on, he actually came into my biology class and told everyone not to say it. And that's all. You can't just come into a classroom and expect the students to stop saying it. As an African American it feels very offensive to hear it come out of any non-black person's mouth like it's a word we use as a joke. This is a school I'll be giving no stars to, I will not recommend you to go here. Most parents and students here share their problems with the staff but sometimes it's never solved. The security guards are the people who make the experience feel like a prison, especially the council for me. If they see you walk in the hallway, like two times, they'll say, "You've been walking in this hallway too much," usually it's the 10th grade sophomore who says things like that, always being exaggerated with students. Then the female security guard who wears braids is the one who always yells at children for the smallest reasons. She wants to find a problem with every little thing, if there was a student who's in a marching band and eating next to the hallway during lunch, she'll literally scream at them. This security guard is jealous of almost half of the students there at school. The sophomore council and the security guard are mainly the two people who make me feel like I'm in a prison. I have a lot of problems at this school and honestly I'm done with everyone... If you're planning on going to this school I sure do hope you have a better experience than me. And if it turns out like mine then try to make the best of it. Sincerely Lady Chelsie :)

I don't understand how you could enter a new environment and expect students and staff to just respect you. She isn't representing the black community in the right way. This school has to do better. Since she walks around with papers in her hand, she needs to take notes on how to fix the school instead of picking on teachers, students, and staff. She will be the reason many more kids will stop showing up. She should've built her way up. I'm highly, highly disappointed.
