Some of my favorite things to gaze at They had just received a new shipment as I drove by but was unable to stop because my daughter had to get back to work. So I dropped her off and headed back to "look only" at the beauties. Boy did I browse a while. By the time I had made my selections the check out was really crowded. As of Tuesday I officially became a first-time home buyer (FTHB as I've been calling myself!) and that means I will be spending a lot of my time at stores with the word "home" in them!!! First up I needed to buy a refrigerator. The Home Depot had deals going on until the end of November, so I wanted to take advantage. When I arrived to the appliance section the girl was helping another customer so I waited. I'd been looking at the fridge online for a couple weeks and knew exactly what I wanted. We got it loaded on her computer and luckily before paying I noticed it wasn't what I wanted! We backed the order out and found exactly what I wanted for the same price and more features. The next day LeeLee called me to let me know a model of my fridge was now on the display floor. So nice of her to take the time to call me as I really wanted to touch it and see it before spending such a large amount of money! Buying a new home is overwhelming. Shopping for things for a new home is overwhelming. I've found that if home stores such as The Home Depot are properly staffed the experience can be way less stressful. Otherwise you will find yourself walking around aimlessly in a warehouse full of very tall rows of LOTS of stuff. read more

I see a great improvement in the last couple of years. Employees are lead you to whatever it is they are looking for. If it is something they don't know about they call someone who is knowledgeable in that field. Still a little room for improvement, but much better. The cashiers are all friendly too. This store had all of the home essentials from lawn care items, like flowers, plants and fertilizer to barbecue grills, stoves refrigerators and more. I was impressed with the home decor items, they sell some really pretty and eclectic light fixtures as well as a lot of options for anyone looking to redo cabinets or vanities ect. My issue was customer service, it was hard to find. I had questions and when I did find someone they just pointed and basically provided no aisle number or real help in locating the item. I noticed hiring signs so perhaps they are short staffed, or overwhelmed but I hope they realize customer service is required if you want repeat business from customers. read more

I've been without a sink now for 3weeks, because the counter top team can't seem to get their act together. Be prepared to be your own project manager too. If you are thinking " Great, this is a one stop shop" think again. You will spend countless hour fighting with people to show up. Lots of DIY projects lately. First project to clean up these stools with Home Depot paint. Had them tint one of the wood stains for me (Behr brand) in Atlantic navy. Came out great & I didn't have to sand off the original stain which was a time saver. Second was a blanket ladder. Found some measurements on Pinterest and went to Home Depot for supplies. The guys cut the wood for me which cut down greatly on the time to prepare and assemble. read more

I'm normally here for the garden center. they've got a great selection on all sorts of plants throughout the seasons and have lots of different types of dirt for containers raised beds as well as inground available. Lots of good prices on things for lawn care as well as landscaping materials. whenever I have a question, I can usually get a hold of someone though sometimes it can take a minute. not everyone in every department knows a ton of stuff, but there are some people who are just gems all across the place, especially in paint as well as in the lumber area. read more

I do shop this store but customer service is lacking. Returning on line items is almost always a nightmare. Home Depot may be the ONLY store that reference #'s, order #'s or ANY number does not cross reference therefore making it impossible to return anything unless you have your specific order # and even then it is questionable. Any other store can pull up your charge card number and find anything you have purchased either in store or on line and issue credits easily and readily, BUT not Home Depot!! An exasperating experience!! How is it that HD has such an antiquated computer system that prevents cross referencing??? I try hard not to purchase anything that might have to be returned but sometimes it is unavoidable. Please get IT updates for the convenience of your customers. read more

When I did, he just pointed me in the direction I needed to go. Typically, associates will walk with you to the particular department. I guess that's asking for too much here. I was in the market for a Dewalt 20v mower. I saw the one I wanted on the Home Depot app, and that there was one in stock in West Ashley. I placed an online order for in store pickup same day, and added the protection plan. I was told I'd receive an email when my order was ready. Two hours later, I received an email saying my mower order was cancelled and no explanation was given. I assumed it was because it was out of stock, but who knows? The employees at West Ashley didn't bother to let me know. I also got an email to let me know my extended warranty, on the item which I am NOT purchasing anymore, is in the mail. Turns out they only refunded the cost of the mower when they cancelled the order. I immediately called Home Depot customer service and was sent to a texting service, where I can text back and forth with questions about my order. The person I texted said it was out of stock at the West Ashley store, and cancelled the rest of the order as well. They then proceeded to tell me that it was in stock at another store about 45 minutes away in North Charleston. I confirmed by going to the website to make sure. The website says that the North Charleston store has 4 in stock...FOUR! He proceeded to create another order for pickup from the new store, and said it would be ready in 2 hours. I told him that wasn't acceptable. I shouldn't have to wait 2 hours because Home Depot employees don't know how to do inventory correctly. He said he would contact the store and put a rush on it. I thanked him and told him I was on my way to the store. When I arrived 45 minutes later, I was told by that store that they don't even carry that item anymore. They don't have it, never will, and proceeded to cancel my order. I get home another 45 minutes later, and see an email that the mower order was cancelled...but again, the warranty is on the way! HaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!!! Seriously, what a joke! I called customer service and the last person I talked to was very helpful and cancelled everything. Funny thing is...I'd given up on Home Depot years ago, because of the lack of customer service in store. I just started going across the street to Lowes. Plus, I'm a veteran, and the military discount was easier to use at Lowes. Since it had been a while, and this was a simple one item curbside pickup, I thought I'd give Home Depot another try. This could be the worst Home Depot ever. Growing up in Atlanta, HD was my go to hardware store. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars at this chain. In short, I will never patronize another HD based upon this stores performance. Here are the cliff notes: -Went to HD on-line to look for a riding mower -Settled on a Cub Cadat #LT46 -This store had 1-2 in stock -Drove to the store to purchase the mower as I had a 15% off coupon as I had recently moved -No mower on display so I went to "customer service," and met with a person named SXXXXXA. -Horrible service. The individual could care less if I spent $3,000 for a mower or not -I asked if the mower was in stock so that I could see. I was told, "our system suc, and there isn't any telling." -I asked to call any other HD for inventory and was told "we can't do that." -I asked to order the mower and told her t would take two weeks-ish, which I agreed to -I presented my coupon and was told I couldn't use as my order was now on-line in spite of the store, stocking the item as a regular sku, however being out of stock -Some other lady came over and said that, in spite of my legitimate point, the clerk was correct -I'm angry but extremely composed, I ain't leaving -I pressed the issue, "wait, so I have a coupon for an in store purchase and you stock the item, correct? And the HD site says you have one correct, and you can't find the inventory correct? And I am asking you to order the item for me and use the coupon, however you are now telling me this is an on-line purchase and I can't use the coupon correct?" -Here's the punchline. The lady went away with the garden guy for 30-ish minutes and came back to say they found a returned mower that they would sell me for $100 more than the on-line price and I couldn't use my coupon. -I left and went across the street and purchased a $5,000 zero radius turn mower. Not overly impressed with this HD. They don't seem to carry as much merchandise as some other locations or as Lowe's. Plus their prices are sometimes mis-marked on the counters; more than once I've had items ring up higher than the counter said - usually I don't catch it until I've left. It never seems to work the other way, in my favor. I've also had trouble a couple of times getting assistance from an employee; had to go track one down. One even told me he'd be right there, then never showed up. I guess the chain-cutting aisle is in a service vortex. Their garden shop never seems to have much in the way of trees; plenty of house plants or small outdoor shrubs, but little in larger trees for the yard. Update: This HD did get a lot of plants and trees about a month after my review. I guess they only carry decent stock in Spring. Lowe's across the street has a huge selection now too, but generally carry more inventory rest of year. read more

I don't really have any loyalty to these big box hardware stores so I normally stick to the Lowes in Mt P based solely on proximity. My washing machine was deemed "not worth repairing" by another company so I decided to check the ads online and see who had the best deals. It was just after black Friday and there was plenty of sales, but Home Depot and Best Buy happened to have the best prices that week. After already putting time into the research and then realizing the circulars would change soon leaving me at square one on who had the best sales, I decided to make my way over and see if I could make a quick decision. With only a half hour left on the clock before closing, I went in, surveyed the options, made a decision, set up delivery, and rang it up... pretty impressive. I do have to say that it was mostly do to my own discovery process online and the appliances rep had only started two weeks ago offering zero input on the products. I did end up speaking to a manager and getting a little discount so overall I felt really good about the purchase. A couple weeks later, they delivered, installed, and hauled away the old one (haul away was $15, but sooo worth it) just in time for some Christmas laundering! The delivery comes from a third party company, but I didn't pay for it and scheduled it from Home Depot so for all intensive purposes, it was part of the experience. They were very professional and did an amazing job of maneuvering without any damage. Set up was simple and my new wife... I mean... washing machine was read for a load. read more

I need to some items to help her around the house.. I need a heavy duty commercial liquid to unclogged the sink., so I asked two ladies who were chatting in the corner.. The Home Depot on Magwood in West Ashley is one of my favorite places to go to for home improvement needs. They seem to have everything in one place at this location as you can get everything that you need for a project here and do not have to go to somewhere else to pick up another item. The staff here is very knowledgeable in just about every area home needs and can answer just about any question that you have as I have got the help I needed every time I have been here. This store is well run and organized as the sections are well marked and even though this store is big you can go right to the place you need to go without getting lost. Avoid buying a Ryobi battey operated lawn mower from this Home Depot. The 5 year mower / 3 year battery warranty sound great until you have to use it. Home Depot would do nothing assist. Had to go through Ryobi who would also do nothing but tell me I would have to take the mower to the only repair shop they have which is located in West Columbia, SC. I had to drive to Columbia and drop of the mower to see if it can be repaired. Due to this repair shop being the only Ryobi service center in three states I now have a month backlog just to look at the mower. Ryobi or Home Depot refused to pay the shipping cost to West Columbia. Very disappointed! I will go with EGO and Lowes the next time. read more

I went to this Home Depot to get measurements for 6 windows on May 27th. Paid the $50 and an appointment scheduled for June 1st. The guy came and took the measurements but they were never put into the system. I have traveled 45 miles 3 times to the store to try to get this matter resolved. Also, called the manager today and he told me that I would have to talk with the expediter and transferred my call. The expediter line went to voice mail saying that they would call me back. This has not happened. I will return to Charleston tomorrow and go to Lowe's to have them assist me with the measurements and shades. read more

Got 2 notices that it was there for some reason and called and they said it was as mistake. There was just too much confusion so I waited a couple days and called again and they found that the piece we ordered was there and been there wondering when we would pick it up. Doh! Went to pick up and then the person that was serving us kind of ignored us for a little while. Weird. And then another person came and asked if we needed help. We said we did not think so but ended up we did and the new person was great and wonderful and got us our item. We were very satisfied with the price and the quality of the item. I'll have to revisit this Home Depot on another day to (hopefully) update this review. On this particular day, I went to the store to have keys made. First, I waited and waited and waited. I asked someone, who said he didn't work in hardware but would page for me and then I waited and waited and waited. After about 10 minutes, a young gentlemen sauntered to the key kiosk (literally, the slowest walk I've ever seen), and kept waving at me. Honestly, I should have bolted right then, but I had already invested considerable time to have keys made. The first key went off like a cinch. No worries. Got the key home, and worked perfectly. The second key gave this guy a few problems. He tried to cut it on one machine and then proceeded to tell me it was too long. So, he cut it on another machine and then proceeded to tell me that it didn't have the correct hump. I let him know that I didn't know what any of that meant. I just needed keys that worked. He proceeded to hem and haw and finally said to me, "let's do this. I'll send the keys home with you, and you can bring them back if they don't work." Wait! What?! You know they aren't cut right. You want to send them home with me, and then inconvenience me (who lives 45 minutes away) because you can't figure out how to cut a key correctly? No thanks. All this to say that I'm sure this Home Depot is a wonderful place to shop. I've had excellent luck at other Home Depot stores, but this particular instance showed me a side I didn't particularly care to see. I'll give this store another chance, because I simply can't believe every employee is as inept at this one was. read more

We went to customer service who "called" a supervisor and told us to wait there and the supervisor would be up shortly...45 minutes later and over waiting, we walked back to the appliance section in hopes of finding someone. We saw the supervisor that was supposed to be meeting us in the front had a line of people who we watched walk in the door. As a disclaimer, I will start off by saying that I am normally a shopper at the other big box hardware store, but they did not have an item that I needed and so I thought I would give this business a shot. Upon walking in, the layout of the store was a little odd to me. Similiar items were not co-located so I found myself looking in multiple spots and asking employees where certain items would be kept. On a positive note, all of the staff that I encountered were very friendly and helpful. There was also no shortage of employees, which I sometimes find at the competitor. There was a decent supply of items and all of the shelves were full, but just not of what I needed. For example, I was looking for regular white, durable plastic outlet covers/plates. There were plenty of the more fancy $9 per item varieties. The other basic item (or at least I thought so) was a small electric fan. The employee said they were in the process of switching over to the "spring" inventory. I never knew fans had a season! When I pushed further, he explained that IF they had them, they would be at the end of the aisle. Come to find out, that was next to the electric tools and saws. Exactly where I would think to look for them?! It was quite an odd experience and I will admit that I have had better luck previously at other Home Depots. It wasn't a bad experience by any means, I just walked away feeling empty not having located the basics. I didn't leave empty handed however, so it must've been alright! read more

In the realm of Home Depots, this one is pretty high up in my books. When we lived in West Ashley, this was the go to spot. I'm over in James Island now, but thinking I'll be willing to make the trek out for this store. Upon entering, I am always greeted by a friendly face who immediately offers help. The first time I came here, I think I just stared at the poor guy, just flabbergasted that someone was there offering assistance. The best part? They are always helpful!! This seems like a sad revelation, but I think we all consistently struggle at these big box stores to find someone helpful and knowledgable. At the end of the day, it is still a Home Depot, so you won't have the true experience of a small town hardware store. They do a damn fine job here though. Home Depot gets extra props for product selection. After purchasing a portable A/C from our local James Island Lowes three times and being forced to return each one due to defect, we made the trek to Home Depot. Whereas Lowes only had some weird off brand stuff, HD had many options, all brand name. We snagged a LG model, and are very happy with it. As the cherry on top, all the cashiers I've encountered here are lovely and so friendly! read more
