Ok so here's the scoop, I buy 6 bio metric deadbolts for a project. Some people might be thinking, bio what? These are deadbolts that have a biometric sensor to scan your finger and read your print to unlock or lock the door. They can also be locked or unlocked with a key. Anyway these are 199.99 per lock, now again I buy 6, you do the math. I get back to the project, and after installing 2 of them, the person that I am doing the project for changes their mind about the color. They only have a brass antique color and a brushed aluminum/ sliver color, and I had got the brass antique (all 6 of 'em). So I convince the customer of mine to stick with the brass antique, because the silver would look to industrial. They agree and keep the brass for 5 of the 6 entry/ exit points on their home. They insist that they want the silver for the side door on the garage, so being that the customer is always right I humor them and proceed back to exchange the last deadbolt for the other color. I get to Home Depot and ultimately have no issues, except that they will not just do the easy thing and swap 'em out even though they are the same price, just a different color. They want to do a refund and then have me purchase the same thing (different color) no problem I understand that it may make it easier for them come inventory. only thing is I left the receipt at home. Well the associate tells me that's not a problem if I didn't mind a store credit on a gift card. I was like sure, I am going to walk back and get the other color and spend the balance of the card on the right color. It takes me a whole 10 minutes to zero out the gift card that they just gave me. So I am thinking ok, this job is almost done. I get back to the job site and the customer has changed their mind all together about the Bio metric lock on the garage. They want to just put a regular lock on it. Ok no problem I will just finish up and return the 199.99 deadbolt later on (the next day). Here's where it gets fun. I have a vacuum cleaner that I had purchased at that same Home Depot about a month earlier, it has taken a dump on me and I am thinking I will knock out two birds with one stone (so to speak). I start searching for the receipt for the vacuum, and can't find it (its been a month) and it was 99.99 so it wasn't like I had put the receipt up in a safe place. I start looking for the receipt for the exchanged deadbolt, and realize that I may have left it in the car, so I load the vacuum up and the deadbolt and head to Home Depot to get my 200.00 and a new vacuum. Well I start looking for the deadbolt receipt in the car, and can't find it, I am thinking no problem they didn't give me any problem when I exchanged it right. I unload and head in, get to the counter, and this emo looking chica is at the returns counter, I tell her the short version all the while it looks as though she is thinking about the next rave rather than paying attention to what I am saying. She scans the items fro the refund and realizes that it is 300.00 plus bucks that she is going to have to put on a gift card. She tells me she has to get approval before she can refund that much, I am like ok no prob. After making me go get a new vacuum, which I had opted for a 359.00 Dyson she has the manager come over to tell me that they are not going to take anything back without a receipt. The reasoning behind this is that I had already returned one of the 199.99 deadbolts without the receipt (according to the computer). I explained to them that it was not a refund, it was an exchange, and I had previously purchased 6 of em and had to exchange one for the other color. The (manager) could not understand this, so she tells me that she needs t run this by her manager. After 15-20 minutes of explaining why I had this return, and that I was going to apply what I had coming to me, towards the new Dyson plus add 60.00 dollars to that to complete the purchase they just refused stating and implying that I am a thief. I tell them that's fine, I will take my future business and spend the 50 or 60 thousand of the 81 billion in business they did last year elsewhere. They didn't seem phased. So I get home and can't let this go no matter how hard I try. call the main number and tell them the short version, and without any question the lady says that she is sorry and she will send me a 200.00 gift card. I say cool and thanks for listening. I ask what I should do with the unreturned deadbolt, and she says keep it, they didn't want it so keep it or return it to another store. So I am like cool if I get my gift card and return the lock I will have enough for the Dyson and will save my pocketbook 200 bones. I couldn't resist calling old Rome up (that's the manager that called me a thief) and sarcastically thanking him for the 200.00 discount. Thats why they get 2 stars and not 0. WOW that was long!!!!!! read more
