I needed to have keys made for a 1992 Chevy Astro Van. Every place I went stuck the old key in an automated machine which said it couldn't be make. They all recommended calling a lock smith. Drove 15 miles to Canyon Lake Ace Hardware and they started the same process of sticking it in an automated machine which again said it couldn't be made. This time the Gentleman that was helping me said let me look in the back. They still have the old manual key cutter and an assortment of blanks. 15 min later I walked out with three brand new keys for a 35 year old vehicle for less than $15. Every time I'm in canyon lake I just love stopping in here to grab a thing or two. Sometimes I go in there with intention to buy a specific item that I know I will get good assistance from the staff in finding quickly. Sometimes just to check out what I might want to add to my collection. Everyone in here is so friendly and helpful and it just has that small town Main Street feel that we seem to Lost in most parts of America these days with Amazon and the other box stores taking over. HANDS down on of the best, nicest and friendliest Ace Hardwares I've ever shopped. Always unique finds available and pricing isn't too bad. The popcorn is always hot, plentiful and available. The women's restroom is amazing. It's nice to walk into a clean, fragrant, well decorated bathroom AND you don't have to walk past the men's room first to get to it. Don't know why it is but that is one of my pet peeves. I abhor walking past the men's restroom before the women's. Stupid I know...just a quirk I have. Shop here. You'll be pleased. read more

I'm a regular at this store and each time it's the same thing. Ample employees but they all seem to be visiting with each other or on stocking duties never any help when you need it, then when you ask they seemed to be bothered. Then the curk attitude of the checkers never seems to change. Managers are just as arrogant, I hate to even go in there but they are convenient. Who's in charge of this country store? Had a real problem with service and called a manager only to be insulted when they were truly in the wrong. Shame. read more

I was looking for a Stihl chainsaw today, called the store and asked for the model 180, they checked and had one left, they asked for my name and would hold it. Walked in and they had none left. Drove 30m and next model up was $200more. Store manager said oops and area manager said we don't hold saws. No sorry for your troubles and no one in the front would acknowledge my call. All they wanted was me to come-in! I will never come here and I was hoping to support the local store. Don't waste your time here. This vet is done with this local store. read more

In my first review, I didn't find the staff as friendly as the ACE in Wimberley. That has changed. The staff is now helpful. Check out has improved and the store has grown. Selection is good and they have a great garden center. I now split my business between the two stores. read more

Ace is the place with the helpful hardware "man." This is one of the biggest hardware stores I've ever seen. They have more items than both of those other big box hardware chains. There are only two Ace Hardware stores left between all of San Antonio to Austin. One is in Wimberly, and the other one is in Canyon lake. I came to this large store to get some single pane glass cut. My only other option was to go to a glass shop, which cost double than this store (40.00 vs 20.00). The employees are very professional here in their red vests. Besides, the biggest most organized row of nuts, bolts, and screws--this store has home goods, crafts, Texas items, anything you need to decorate your home. There is even a snack bar here. I bought a table for my grill. In the list of items it says that it came with wheels, once I purchased the table, and had it picked up, I was told the wheels were not included after all. I spoke with the manager (Jeff) and he told me that he would send the wheels to me at no charge. Five days passed with no word from ACE. I called back only to find out that Jeff had changed his mind and took advantage of the situation to charge me another $50. This was clearly a bait and switch. My friend bought the same table from this location and the wheels were included. This may be a simple issue, but beware with this store. Their business practices are deceiving and when you call them out the don't care. I DO NOT recommend this store, the management is very unprofessional. read more

Great staff and always eager to help. Most recently went in to find the right mix for planting shrubs and trees and Michael was very helpful in finding the right solution for the job. Ace's garden center has always been my go to when I need to get new plants or soil. Every time I go to Ace I make sure to stop by it an pick up a few things. read more

I want to give a shout out to this store and especially Dallas in the paint department. They are always very helpful and knowledgeable but in this case I had a sort of warranty issue on an expensive gallon of deck paint and they stood by it with no questions. I came in last fall and had bought many gallons of this paint and had painted the deck. I needed one more gallon. I told the young man what color I wanted based upon the color chart for that brand. He was new and didn't know how to get that color code so he said he'd scan it from the color wheel and could match it that way. I had my reservations but he assured me it would match. It didn't. I should've painted a spot and let it dry to test it but I was trying to beat the cold weather. It is finally warm enough to paint again so I came in 4 months later and asked what they could do for me. They offered to replace that gallon! I still need to repaint what is the wrong color but I'm a happy camper! Kudos for great customer service. Aside from that, I learned a lesson about color matching. So I don't normally leave reviews and when I do I don't typically leave a good review. This place however, deserves the 5 stars and more. I live in Boerne and found a great deal on a mower that I was looking for that the other guys wouldn't match. I called out there to make sure they had it in stock before I drove out and was told they did (their computer said they did) so I made the purchase online and drove out to pick it up! I got there and it turned up there was a mistake with their inventory and my order was canceled while I was already driving out there. Now, technically it's my fault for not waiting for the email saying it was pulled and waiting for pick up, but I was in a hurry and just left since I called to confirm before I bought it. After talking POLITELY with the guys and them doing the same with respect, the owner got involved as he was passing by and went above and beyond to make things right! The level of service given today is something you just don't find now days and as a result, anytime there is anything I need that they have, I will be making the drive to see them again! The store is taking care of people with masks and social distancing. This is a larger store than Wimberley so I can find more supplies here. However, the staff as a whole after multiple trips just seems grumpier than the Wimberley store. It's my second choice. read more

Villetta that works here has real mental issues. She was sitting there for a good 3 minutes "scanning my cash" I seriously thought I was getting punked. I said am I getting punked?! I then said can you please put my money in the register and give me my change she replied "you can't leave you haven't paid. I said can someone plz some give me my change so I can go. A lady came over and said what's wrong she replied to her with "the money won't scan" the lady took the money put it in the register and said give her her change. So extremely overpriced I was dumbfounded. Went in to buy A plastic storage bin , went to check out and it rang up as $27 ! Checked my phone for target price and they are nine dollars at target... so I can get 3 of them for the price of one here. Looked at patio chairs and they were $49 which go at other retailers locally for $19. Not sure how they survive charging these prices but I suppose if you don't want to drive for 10 minutes to save $20 read more

Well I'm amazed it's a good store with a lot of stock but they keep sending you worthless coupons to get you in the store which really pisses me off, I have tried 3 times to redeem my 5 buck coupons but they are always rejected, today I got one for my BIRTHDAY, it said spend $25 and get $5 off, my merchandise was $20 so I looked for something else so I got a light bulb and some oil that came to $28 I was informed that the light bulb was on sale and did not count so my total without the bulb was only $24 so my birthday gift was again rejected, "REALY" ARE YOU REALY !??!??!! Darrell B- Ace is less than half the size of both Big chain store. You said they have MORE product? Seems someone put you up to this... They have much much less and THEIR PRICES ARE MUCH HIGHER THAN THE BIG BOX STORES! Not to mention they don't carry quality products like big box either. My experience has been the opposite. They have an older staff that are NOT knowledgeable. They have ridiculous return policies and even getting a propane refill was painful. Lady refused to let me PAY for a refill unless i brought the empty inside the store for a propane exchange. I explained we have to go back outside and have someone open the cage they keep them in anyways so why the inconvenience of lugging it in the store when we are going right back outside to exchange it?? All i got was attitude and refusal... I don't understand as I am PAYING upfront anyways and the cages are locked and must be opened by an employee. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

Despite the one or two negative reviews, and I don't agree with any of them, I think this store is a breath of fresh air when compared to the box stores, especially Lowes. The staff is very knowledgeable, courteous (re Lowes) and helpful. When you walk in, it's almost like a step back in time to when customer service meant something other than a buzzword for marketing. And, the huge selection of almost any hardware items you could want, at the right price (yeah, you may pay a few pennies more, but they actually have it on the shelf vs having to order on-line and having it shipped to a box store) keeps me coming back to this store.
