On a recent visit to New Orleans, we found ourselves helping to build a small container garden at the last minute on a Sunday morning. Where to go? Home Depot! Alicia was so helpful. Even though she does not have a green thumb, she was so kind and so knowledgeable as we filled our platform truck cart with raised planters, potting soil and envelopes filled with seeds. Hopefully in 60-70 days the garden will be filled with cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes. While we were there, we also picked up logs and fire starters for a fire pit. S'mores anyone?? read more

The best time to go to this Home Depot is early in the morning when you have more associates available to answer questions. Better knowledgeable on the items that you may need. I was able to find the correct sanding pads I needed thanks to the associate. They also had a value pack at a very affordable They had a variety of sanding pads that I was able to use and the associate was very knowledgeable about the particular grain needed and finished I was looking for for my particular sander. This Home depot's usually stocked in the morning. So once again the best time to go is in the morning. My transaction was smooth. One day after Hurricane Ida I arrived early morning and lined up outside this Home Depot and in less than an hour was able to buy a critically needed portable air conditioner and an electric power generator. Also when we walked in the staff had carts setup with the generators and outside there was an employee's helping load these purchases into your vehicle. Hurricane Ida was not nice to NOLA, but I am very thankful Home Depot and their employees have went out of there way to be there when we need them the most. read more

I decided to just leave what I already had on my cart and walk away! My husband had about 20 bags of mulch on his cart that he had just checked out! I went to see some refrigerators at home depot and decided on an LG side by side refrigerator. The store was clean and all the refrigerators very well displayed. I think 2 people came up to me and asked me if i would like any assistance. Anyway, i left the store and decided to purchase the refrigerator online. I ordered the item on the Thursday and by the next week Wednesday i was scheduled for a delivery. They provide a 4 hour window in which they can deliver which is not great when you have to be at work. The nice thing is that you can kind of track where you are in the queue of deliveries and estimate timings from there. I was the 8th delivery of that day and they came around 11:30am. They removed my old refrigerator and tried to fit in the new one but too my dismay it didn't fit. The space was too small by a quarter of an inch. This was very confusing as the dimensions provided on the website was the exact dimensions of my old fridge. They left the new refrigerator in my dining room and kept the old one installed. They advised that if i wanted to return it i would have to go into the store and return it and then they would pick it up again. admin nightmare! After they left, I noticed that there were these plastic knobs on each side of the refrigerator. So i thought that if i removed those, it would possibly fit in the space. I called them and asked if they would come back to help me and they said that they will try after their last delivery. In my mind, i was like er nope they're not coming back. Too my surprise, they came back and helped me try and put the refrigerator in the space again. It didn't fit. They were super nice about it and left again. Then i decided to measure the new refrigerator and realized the width was about a half an inch wider than what was advertised on the website. Slightly annoyed! Anyway, the reason for this review was to recognize the great delivery service that Home depot offers. read more

Friendly staff, thanks Corey in Lighting Department & the cashier, name escapes me; but she had like 15,000K Home Depot patches collecting in one area on her smock (I think the patches we an accumulated for years of service); both were super friendly & helpful. I live in New Orleans for part of the year. I always used to shop at this Home Depot because it's only a mile from my house. I won't be coming back, though, because they recently changed their store policy on allowing dogs. I'm single, and this store is in a fairly rough area. It was never a problem before for me to bring along my well-behaved yet protective 70-pound Lab mix. She has never, I repeat, NEVER created a disturbance or had a potty accident any time I brought her with me to shop. The last time we started to walk in the door, however, an employee yelled at me that they no longer allowed dogs and then pointed at a sign, saying, "You see that? It says so right there!" Dude, I wasn't even up to the door yet, so there's no way I'd have been able to read it. Chill. So unless this Home Depot (A) changes their policy to allow dogs again or (B) starts providing security guards as escorts for customers going into and out of the parking lot and (C) retrains their associates to NOT yell at customers and sarcastically tell them to read signs they can't read unless they happen to have eagle eye vision, I will not be shopping here again. Instead, I'll drive 15 minutes longer to go to the Marrerro store, which still allows dogs. read more

I prefer supporting the smaller, locally owned hardware stores, but some occasions just require a big box store like The Home Depot or Lowe's. I'm thankful that we have one of each within in a few minutes of home. In the suburbs, I'd tend to make Lowe's my first choice, but not in this case. THD is hands down a better shopping experience. You may have to ask for help, but at least you'll find someone to ask, and you'll actually find them accommodating and helpful, as opposed to the Lowe's on the other side of downtown, where you'll feel invisible. read more

The customer service has been excellent each time I've been, and I haven't had a problem finding anything I've needed. I ordered different soil materials and paid $79 for express shipping! $79 freaking dollars! They said it would be delivered the next day! It took 3 extra days for them to deliver an incomplete order and they say the order is complete! I've lost about $100 worth of plants, am missing part of my order and was charged $79 for next day delivery which took 4 days! I've called them 5 times already! 3 times directly this location and nobody picked up! And 2 times called the online order number and they revert me back to the store. Everything was going great when I walked into the store pushing my bicycle I was in there to purchase a lock to be able to secure my bicycle while in New Orleans no where on the door anywhere on the property is it posted that you cannot push a bicycle into this establishment. Well, they have a New Orleans city cop that is their security guard and he's a complete asshole, and immediately started chewing me that bikes are not allowed in the store. You must get it out immediately even the manager backed him up. I have never heard of bikes, not being allowed. As long as you push them in any store. I'll take this thing everywhere I go. We're in a high soft town and it's a very expensive bicycle anyway they made me leave they would not sell me a lock. So I drove over to Lowe's about 3 miles away and I thought my bicycle was the coolest thing that ever seen they were looking at it. They were happy, not treating me like a criminal that was going to load the bicycle up and head out of the store at some high speed and they ended up selling me a $25 lock so maybe you should assess the training of your RoboCop's because this really upset me I've never been attacked like that from anybody and if you don't allow bicycles post it on your front door because I read everything on the door that was not allowed inside the store and it didn't say anything about bicycles. read more

My neighbor, an avid DIYer, let me in on a secret one day when he insisted that I go to the Home Depot near the Superdome. He said that he can find everything there and it's easy to get off and on the interstate (which in New Orleans is not the norm...). Now here I am, years later- still a fan of this location- spilling the beans and letting you find out the best HD location in town. They serve lots and lots of the pros- builders, plumbers, etc so they have all of the latest options and colors. I find the workers there to be friendly and helpful too. Where to begin. I'm from New York. I'm used to a certain level of service (not to mention taste and sophistication, but we'll put that aside for now). I know that statement will ruffle some "Nola" feathers, but get over it. Facts are facts. Accustomed as I am to service, I find the Home Depot to be an appalling place. Don't expect anyone to lift a finger for you here! I sometimes wonder if God is punishing me. First he/she breaks my toilet seat so it slides all around every time I sit (I sit for #1 and #2... I like to use my toilet time to catch up on social media, and I can't do it one handed). Then last night I went to sit down in a slightly inebriated state, and it snapped completely off! I nearly fell to the ground! But I would say the biggest indignation was trying to purchase a new seat today at Home Depot. It took me nearly 30 minutes of wandering the store to find the right section. There are LITERALLY no employees on the floor to help customers. I finally found a nice seat and took it to the checkout, only to find.... wait for it.... NO EMPLOYEES! The checkout was self-service! Am I supposed to know how to operate the check-out kiosk?!? And the machine kept talking to me... scan item... scan item. With what!?!? I considered just leaving without my toilet seat. But damn if I'm going to pay the price for their inadequacies! In the end I just put my new seat in a bag and briskly walk out to my car! Take that corporate oppressors! read more

I'll acknowledge I'm bias. We only came here because they had a deal on pesticide with an instore pick up and my sorority sister could care less about my principles when it comes to saving. I don't like the whole post-Katrina building and fiasco. Yeah, Nagin has fault but so does the CEO as they never hired 25-33% of their staff right from the area/zip code which - let's be real... folks would have snapped that job up. Kudos to the City Council for trying and I'll let it go that they got three (3) city blocks for $100k versus the appraised $850k but it takes nothing to hire local folks and post that information like any old nonprofit via GuideStar to show what you do for and with the community. read more

When I wrote my last review in 2011 I had this location confused with the closed location on Carrollton. This is the biggest HD in the area. It has a huge selection of plants and all the wood in the world. The staff is generally nice and does offer to help, but I've never had the customer service that Larissa receives...but she is special. I don't really understand why the address is on Claiborne since you have to enter the parking lot on Earhart. Confusing. But definitely the 4th star for the great selection of lighting and fans alone. read more

Ordered a new fridge after Ida. Expected delivery window was 11am-3pm. The drivers came 3.5 hours early and then refused to carry the fridge up one flight of stairs claiming it wouldn't fit, even though there was clearance on both sides. We said we could take 5 minutes to remove the doors to the fridge to make it easier (we've replaced several fridges and they've always been ok with this), but they said they couldn't wait that long. They then proceeded to leave the fridge blocking our front door with my husband locked outside and me locked inside...at 9am on Saturday, all before coffee. And then it starts to rain. You can't make this up. I've been on the phone for over an hour trying to see if they can come help us move the fridge again, but no help at all. I wish I would've used a local company instead. They said that one the doors are off, the unit it modified and they can no longer install it. ....the fridge comes with instructions on how to remove the doors so you can switch their sides. This is not "modifying the unit." Not to mention, the doors came all bashed in and scratched up. Terrible experience. read more

Got a new fridge and was having trouble hooking the existing water supply tubing to the ice maker. Needed some sort of adapter, I guess, I don't know - I'm a nurse, not a plumber. Went to Home Depot this morning armed only with a vague idea and some pics of the pieces and parts at play. Standing there clueless wondering why me? and along comes Kenneth, kind enough to notice my confusion and cluelessness and patient enough to understand what the heck I was describing since apparently there's a whole other language when it comes to these bits (male and female but nothing like my patients.) He picked out the perfect piece and got me out of there quick before I wasted all sorts of money and energy and wound up paying someone else to do it. Now, THAT's customer service! I came in looking for some traction spray that their on-line system said they had in stock but they didn't when I arrived. I was already a bit frustrated from trying to make a quick jump over lanes off of 10 on the loop around. I checked the aisle because I couldn't find anyone who worked there in any of the surrounding departments and the line at customer service was long but, I ended up having to wait in that line to ask. The one girl was on her phone the entire time texting instead of working the register she was standing by. I probably should have called to make sure the item was in stock but maybe they could improve the online system or the customer service at this location read more

While this Home Depot is quite the mecca, it doesn't help me when I can't find anything. Yes I can find the plants and yes I can locate the wood, but everything in between is a mystery to me... I get a little intimidated in hardware stores so I tend to start speed jogging around the aisles so that no dudes think I look helpless and try to schmooze me with their hardware store know-how or ask me "whatcha makin'?" The worst. This tends to happen 1 out of 3 times if I'm not moving at break neck speeds. Too bad the dudes offering assistance aren't wearing the orange aprons of the staff or else this would be helpful. I've gone to this location a few times, and maybe the times I'm there is "let's block off the aisles and look too busy to answer questions" time. I feel like I'm being a bother when asking where to find contact paper for shelving. I get waved in a general direction, where I find a meh selection of contact paper in this ginormous Depot. I've also been here before to try and find cedar for a garden box, was directed in the area of wood, where, alas, after 10 minutes of power walking around the wood section was finally told, "oh yeah, we don't have cedar." I just don't understand how it's bigger with just as little stuff in the area of my needs as other home improvement stores that are smaller. SO yeah, I've experienced better. read more

I am writing this review to highlight a particular staff member that has gone above and beyond on multiple occasions and I wanted to take a minute to write about it. I have never written a Yelp review but my recent trip to Home Depot inspired me to compose my first one. I am a DIYer and frequent Home Depot at least twice a month to gather supplies for my next home project. The last 3 times that I have gone to Home Depot Dynika has been so helpful, friendly, reassuring, and professional. The most recent time Dynika demonstrated her willingness to help was this Sunday when my boyfriend and I needed a key made. We waited for a few minutes for someone to come help us. We could see that the staff in this department was occupied with other customers so we waited. Dynika came by three times to check on us and to see if someone else could help us. Dynika was already busy with the checkout line and directing customers but made sure that we were also taken care of. She even started the process for us until someone else could come and help us. I have worked in the customer service industry in the past and know how frustrating customers can be especially on a busy Sunday. I do not think that I would have been as calm and helpful as Dynika was in the same situation. She really stands out and her professionalism and sincerity is highly commendable. read more

I have never had a bad experience at this Home Depot. From getting paint mixed to picking up items for work. Most recently I've been visiting for packing material and totes. They have a good selection, and prices are on par with other places, expensive! But sadly moving is :/ The service is what makes this location really shines. When visiting last, I was picking out 54 gallon totes and I had an associate help me carry them to the register and then help me to my truck. I was going to carry them out myself, but thank you so much for your help! Whenever that happens it always makes me feel fuzzy inside. Lame I know, but it's awesome! I've had days where I've been working on a home repair project and had to visit this store up to 10 times in a single day. I've had last minute plumbing emergencies where I've made it with literally seconds before they close to acquire the items I needed. I've generally not enjoyed my visits here and I've often grown frustrated with often having to make so many visits here but I'm glad it is here and not far off in the burbs when I have a need for it. The joy of owning a historic shotgun home in New Orleans is the never ending stream of repairs that happen which are also multiplied when its a shotgun double so you get double duty of repairs. I dread my next mandatory visit but I love the fact that at least it isn't too far away from my home. read more

This is a Home Depot. It is not a special Home Depot, but it is not sub par. I go to this one because it is the closest to my house. I visit frequently because my house is 100 years old, and previous owners did not take good care of it. My only complaint is that the hours have been reduced recently, but I suppose that is more of a statement about the current economy than about the management of the store. My kids have more sense from a design / use perspective. I know nothing will ever be done to change it, but it sucks. Wrapped in a prefab faux wrought iron like it's a fortress, and all these curbcuts. It's like an obstacle course for bigwheels WHICH IS RIDICULOUS as most vehicles that get driven here are oversized. The rudest people in the tool rental. It took them an hour to get the piece of crap tiller we rented to run, the rude blonde had to get someone from another department to come do her job and she had a terrible attitude when my husband asked for the once-over on how to work it and NEVER did they say to clean it before we brought it back, which we did but it was still a little dirty, as it was when we got it. But, although it was returned in the same shape, the same girl gave more attitude and so did another man at the tool rental area. Maybe they shouldn't rent tools that don't really work and are already dirty. I wish I would have gotten her name. The absolute rudest person at the entire store. read more

Since my Home Depot (RIP Mid-city Home Depot) closed this had been my go to place for things I can't source at my neighborhood locally owned hardware store. Employees are helpful when you can find them. They have a chop saw and during slow times if you present them with a piece of wood and a cut list they'll cut it for you. (Good for using Ana White's DIY furniture plans). My big thing: Every single time they've had a workshop that I RSVP'd for they've decided to cancel it and not notify anyone. Not once, not twice but 3!! times. Why even bother with RSVPs? Meh. I'll stick with lowe's workshops. read more

I'm more of a neighborhood hardware store kinda guy but I did get somewhat familiar with this store a few months ago while on a remodeling project. There's some things you just cannot get at a mom & pop's place... I must be coming here about once every other week. Considering my initial expectations people have been surprisingly helpful and ready to assist, with the exception of maybe one minor instance. But, my overall experience is positive, and my appreciation towards this place only grows when I think of how stores of other 'big companies' get away with murder when it comes to customer (non-)service! read more
