They are just rude for no reason. I've been here a few times over there years and I hate it every time. They are pretentious and act like you are a problem the moment you need something. Meanwhile Lowe's will work on paint until you have what you need and take anything back without a hitch. Honestly, it's mostly always the older man who's been working there for years, who is unfortunately probably a manager. Everything is overpriced (as to be expected), but just this morning I went in to exchange a $35 QUART of paint (which is crazy) because I got the wrong sheen last night. I hardly even touched the paint and told him I'm sorry I just got the wrong sheen and he basically said too bad so sad. Looking my can of paint up and down like it was an alien. I said nothing but thanks anyway and left and I will not be back. Why would I want to buy overpriced items to then be treated like a nuisance instead of a customer just trying to get what they need? Anyway, don't come here unless you have money to throw away so you're not treated like a rat for making a mistake buying their products. read more

I still miss Harry's uptown, but Mary's is a good substitute. The best part of Mary's is the second floor kitchen shop. Hands down the best in NOLA. They have both throwback items as well as the latest gadgets. The staff is always friendly, available and helpful. They don't know me by name yet, as Harry's staff did, but I trust that will come with time. read more

Mary's is the neighborhood hardware store for the French Quarter and surrounding areas. Whenever I need something for the house I come here. Don't be impressed because my handyperson skills are limited. LOL! The lower level has all your hardware needs and the upper-level carries kitchenware and other fun household accessories and gadgets. I recently came here to have some keys made and received an enthusiastic greeting from Kim. She had a wonderful, upbeat personality. I handed her the set of keys, and she was kind enough to color code them for me with little stickers so I didn't have to guess which one was what. I came back a few days later for another item and once again received excellent assistance from Kim. On all my visits, the staff has always been helpful and friendly. Kim goes above and beyond and deserves a little extra shout out. I also love that Mary's is dog friendly. They have complimentary treats and a water bowl for your furry friend. read more

Home renovation and restoration business owner in New Orleans. Was a regular. Bought a $35 auger drill attachment and as soon as I put it on my drill realized it was broken-- attempted to return it 20 minutes after purchase and they would not exchange or return it. Hello - reporting very rude & unethical behavior at your ACE store located on 732 N Rampart St, New Orleans on Nov 29, 2024. The site is listed as owned by Thomas Wood & managed by David Blaszak We parked in a lot next to "Mary's" ACE Hardware. The parking lot had several spaces marked as "for ACE customers only, else risk of tow". We were careful not to park in those spaces & park on the other side of the lot (no signs indicating those spots were restricted). The lot was less than 25% full. We were visiting from out of town & had a rental car. We went to an adjacent store for 15 min, when we returned a tow truck had already attached a cable & was preparing to lift our car onto the bed. I explained the situation to the driver to get released & he said he was called by ACE mgmt & I had to speak to them. I went inside to speak to the manager & explain what happened & how our parking space was not marked as reserved. He came out of his office yelling profanity in front of me & other store patrons saying "we got caught" and had to pay the $199 fine. I did not get his name, but he was an older caucasian man, under 6ft tall with light hair. He also walked outside to the parking lot & used similar language in front of my wife & young daughter. It was very clear we were being targeted by ACE & it's very concerning how this store operates & treats others. read more

I've loved, recommended and supported Mary's for years, but one look at the front door says it all. We're in New Orleans... I get it, but do you really need to be this heavy-handed over a year into the pandemic, when many of us are vaccinated? I can see a "mask recommended" sign, but 14 signs on the door to "welcome" your guests and closing your restrooms to your regular customers? I recently brought a large square of paint to get a color match for some touch up work in my apartment I'm renting. I did not know the sheen and I did not want to ask the landlord because I did not want him knowing I'm touching up stuff. The guy who helped me did the match and then asked me what sheen it is and I said I have no idea I thought you guys would know. He choose a gloss sheen. Fast forward I brought it home and started touching up the parts I spackled. When it dried it looked totally different. I told someone and they said just bring it back and they will swap it out so I figured that to be the case. I brought it back today 7/18/24 around 11.30am and explained what happened. The guy working at the paint area then called "Kim" to make the decision. She instantly said no and I have to pay for the correct paint if I wanted a different sheen. She was also kinda rude about it. I work in customer service and would have never handled the situation like she did. I said I should have just went to Home Depot and she added "you should probably do that" and chuckled and said that after the paint is mixed what good is it to them. I responded what good is it to me either it's the wrong sheen. Kim actually messed up my sheen the last time I went for a color match so I should have know better but I have no car and this place is the closest to my home and wanted to give ACE the benefit of the doubt. I was a regular customer here and am really annoyed how they handed this situation. I have spent a lot of money here and will not be returning and will also tell everyone not to shop here for paint. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND NEVER GO HERE FOR A COLOR MATCH BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES OBVIOUSLY AND WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE MISTAKE. Don't come in here expecting the inventory of Lowe's, but for basic stuff they'll have you covered, with friendly advice and conversation thrown in. But don't leave to start your chores without treating yourself to the upstairs. Here you'll find cookware, dishes and glassware with some eye-popping prices, but also all kinds of cute and fun gadgets that won't break your bank account. I've been missing Kansas City's Pryde's Old Westport and Planters Seed Company something awful, and finding Mary's is a sweet little taste of home. read more

Was visiting New Orleans with some friends. on Monday, April 15, my friends and I were in the area. We have a relative that's in an electric wheelchair. One of the relatives noticed that a screw was missing from one of the front wheels so we needed to get a new screw and an Allen wrench to tighten it. We went to Mary's Ace Hardware to purchase the items. There are two type of Allen wrenches metric and standard so my friend got both and was trying to find out which ones would work. When all of a sudden a man possibly the owner or manager yells at us you can't use those until you purchase them. We told him all we were doing was trying to find out which type of Allen wrench would work. He picks them both up and says you have to purchase these first. You can't try them out. So we ended up buying both because we definitely needed to fix his electric wheelchair when it could've taken a minute or two to try them both out and find out which one we really needed. Then of course their rule is all sales are final so we couldn't return the one we didn't need. Horrible customer service and management. Highly recommend the people of New Orleans to take their business to someplace other than this location If I could give this review, no stars I definitely would read more

Very nasty clerks. Walked in asking for help in finding the right replacement screws for an item, and all the clerk does is point me in the general direction of where the screws are located. When I comment that I thought Ace was known for its personalized service compared to A Home Depot, the clerk immediately walks away and stated maybe I should just go to Home Depot. Having a well-stocked hardware store within walking distance in the French Quarter would seem unlikely, but Mary's Ace Hardware fits the bill. I'm always happy to shop at locally owned businesses and though it's more expensive to shop here rather than a big box store, I appreciate the personalized attention and the neighborhood feel of the store. Yes, sometimes the employees are gruff, but I know they deal with a lot, like shoplifting and wackadoodle customers. I also love the upstairs home goods store which is like a little Williams Sonoma. Just went in to shop and bought several specialty items upstairs but when we came down and were situating our items in the car, we were told we could not continue to shop next door or on the street. The parking lot was empty but were told there would be no room for his customers. What customers with that unfriendly attitude . It was a huge disappointment to our trip! IT'LL QUEER YOUR NOTION OF A HARDWARE STORE This gem on the outskirts of the Quarter is proudly named after the Montrose's renown gay biker bar (as detailed on the lobby plaque) and is a sister business to Café Lafitte in Exile, the oldest such watering hole in the US. THESE GIRLS KNOW THEIR POWER TOOLS! I banked True Value's Chicago headquarters in the 1990s. They were just starting their strategy to beat the big boxes by having superlatively knowledgeable sales teams that are willing to go the extra mile. Mary's is one of their stellar examples. Once an employee helped me wheel a carpet steamer to my condo 4 blocks away. Another guy listened to a gloomy dilemma and then recommended my favorite tool: an obscure crank shaped combo flat/philips head screwdriver to use in tight gaps like vanities or hinges (Ha! See pic). "2ND FLOOR: HOUSEWARES, PET SUPPLIES, LINGERIE..." The top floor of Mary's is its hidden jewel, a cross between Williams Sonoma and Jefferson Feed. This is one of those old-school throwbacks where you aimlessly wander and oooooh agog over beautiful yet mostly affordable gadgets and appliances (see pics). PROTIPS: 1. Offstreet parking!!! 2. Is it conceivable that Mary's Ace Hardware is possibly fed up with being robbed in a city where my senior-citizen-grey-haired-wife was psychologically assaulted and physically intimidated by a group of truant teenaged-gangbangers while on a walk to CVS on Canal in late morning, and got a recorded message from the non-emergency number of the nearby police station saying that they were closed, and the caller should try again later. While she escaped the brats' clutches by running into a store, her call to 911 was met with another recording telling her that the line was busy, and she should call back later. In the five years of our living in this cesspool, the only times we have seen police pounding beats, and the addicts and dope dealers, assaultive homeless mentally ill, sidewalk-hogging gangbangers of all ages, and the fraudulent--mixed with the actual--"poor" beggars removed from the streets is when "royalty" (including politicians, movie productions, and celebrities, etc.) are about to visit or when parades are rolling. The rest of the time, the cops seem to be hiding out in their station houses or driving around to collect protection money from businesses--they call it "special duty." As the houses of the Quarter are broken up into condo's that become empty vacation homes and the guy who owns the T-Shirt shops works on his dreram of owning every square foot of retail space in the Quarter for his schlock empire, it's always good to see a hardy, useful, local store that isn't going anywhere. Mary's is everything you need in a hardware store, and helpful too. I had to rig a non-fitting back rack complete with ribbons and decorations onto a bike for a customers wedding last year...we had 1/2 hour and the brides maids were nervous...one of the workers spent the whole 30 minutes opening up different fasteners to get it done...and did in the nick of time. That's the kind of thing you won't see at Lowes. Emergency bike repair tools and keys is what brings me in, but I'm not handy...if you actually know how to fix plumbing and electricity or want to build a loft for your hotel room; they have what you need at what seems like fair prices. read more

I would not recommend anyone to shop here, my family and I felt like second class citizens at this shop. I would take my money else where. This is the place to go when you really need something. I have never been disappointed. In fact I make a list of things that I can only get here without a lot of hassle. An example is the Italian coffee pot I bought the other day. Not only do they have new ones but parts for one that I have that is over 60 years old. It is one of the few places that I go into because of their serious Covid-19 rules. I feel safe there and have encouraged our friends to go there as well. read more

The staff was great and super helpful, and if we hadn't been in a little bit of a hurry we could have stayed and browsed around for quite a while! For convenience in the quarter can't be beat. Yes prices may be cheaper at Lowe's or HD, but you need wheels to get there. Housewares section upstairs is fun to just browse.
