So yes, walk in to the huge nursery but don't feel overwhelmed. There will be a well-informed employee there to help you. And you don't have to go hunting for them. Perino's is paradise at this time of year when most of our minds are geared towards making our outdoor spaces beautiful, even if in a month or two we will be hiding inside from the heat. Perino's has it all from annuals to perennials to shrubs to trees and everything in between. Yes, you're paying more for things than you will at HD or Lowes, but the quality is profoundly superior to what you'll get there (sidenote: it's depressing to see the wilting flora at the big box stores, clearly due to lack of watering. Then they put them on sale but c'mon). Perino's has sales at times, too. Proof of quality: I see in my last review 12 years ago that I mention buying a star jasmine vine. I still have that vine and it made it through two cross country moves!

They were quickly putting new trees out as others were purchased. We found the 7-8 foot section and I quickly found one that I liked. We opted to have the tree delivered ($55 for our area). They had a large selection of trees in all sizes. They build their own stands and have the water bowl built in to keep the tree fresh and they give the tree a fresh cut on delivery day. Only disappointment we had is that their info sheet they give you for delivery says they'll help you decide on which side to face outward and trim any branches that need trimming. Instead they brought the tree in, put it on the floor protector we bought, and cut the string wrapped around the tree before running out the door. We had quite a bit to trim around the base before decorating including quite a few small branches that went directly into the water bowl. Next time we may just have them tie it to the car and save the delivery fee.

Occasionally new pots or potting soil, but very rarely am I out and about for plants. I rent, it's always dark in the shotgun, the yard is just a jungle gym for the dogs, so I don't really plant anything. Just assorted pots on the porch and a few limited light tolerant plants inside. And then I decided to pick up a few for my classroom. I usually just have a little vase or some mini-daffodils in spring, but I'm trying to encourage more plant life in my classroom so that my students can enjoy it, and so that I have time to enjoy it. The problem is that I'm not as good at indoor plants as I am my outdoor ones. So I went to TPG because my mom gave me some ideas, and it popped up as a nearby location to where I was out shopping. 1. This place is way bigger than I expected. I pulled in and there's a shop, greenhouses, landscaping plants, you name it. 2. The staff was so helpful and knowledgeable. I got ideas of what to get (sturdy enough for students), ways to take care of them, and knowledge about which ones were air purifiers, low maintenance, or whatever given my classroom conditions. 3. I spent more money than I had been anticipating, but I was having such a great time, and enjoyed learning about the plants that I decided to just buy a few more. The lady in the greenhouse wrote out my bill, I got to use my Yelp! check-in discount, and I went into the store to check-out. They had so many great goodies there that I really wanted to keep shopping, but I knew I had already spent my budget with the extra plants, so I stayed good. Now I know for next time and I look forward to going back. BTW -- the new plants are thriving and new shoots are already appearing, so apparently they really did lead me in the right direction!

They were so charming that I'd let them sell me anything. *opens purse* We'd been shopping around for weeks and decided to outfit our lawn with as much as we could get from TPG, thanks to Wayne. The Plant Gallery is so expansive, beautiful, and organized. There is inspiration abound. They really put so much care into the aesthetic. Most plants were labeled with name, care tags, pricing, their sun/shade situation, etc. I'd visited before and felt a little intimidated. When you approach, it seems like you have to park on the street, but if you pull inside the gate there is subtle parking available. It's sort of like street parking, where you can park along side some of the plants or sculptures. If you're unsure, ask some of the friendly staff and they'll help you.

Hydroponics are the specialty, so much is dedicated to the preppers that grow food indoors or without soil at all. When I was leaving I noticed a fridge and there was a lady there examining, weighing, sorting and packing farm fresh eggs. When she put some stuff in the fridge, there was another surprise- beef. There is a variety of grass-fed sausages and steaks. Talk about awesome. It looks like they ate winding down in the brewer supplies and they are currently 40% off now. If you grow and need specialized help, this is the spot!

Of course they have all the basics, but also multiple varieties of each type of fruit tree, including some less common tropical varieties like longan. There were bonsai starts and supplies, super hot peppers, a seemingly endless variety of landscape plants and pollinator attractors. All of this lovingly tucked tightly together in a way that didn't feel busy, but lush and inviting. Inside the store was no less impressive. There was a wonderful selection of pond/aquarium supplies, small animals, and fish. A young man working on one of the indoor ponds spent a lot of time talking to us about ideas to improve a pond that we have, along with recommendations on fish for it. He, and the owners, seemed quite proud of their wonderful place, as they should be. I look forward to visiting again soon!

Mark (the owner) is so sweet, and his variety of plants you can choose from make this place a must-visit if you're looking to add plants to your garden. His nursery feels like a beautiful forest garden. Bonus, some cute cats live there who may or may not let you give them some love too. He really focuses on bamboo plants, but he has a lot more to offer too if you're interested. I bought a gorgeous papyrus plant that I've never seen nor heard of and it's currently thriving on my patio. I love it so much, it's height makes it stand out a lot! I'll definitely have to go back for another visit when I need more plants. I got a few bamboo plants from Mark as well. He has several kinds of non-invasive bamboo that won't take over your whole yard. He says that you have to cut it down every once in a while to keep the growth manageable (as with most plants), but he's very knowledgeable and will give you specific instructions on care and management.
