My regular (aka go to) Home Depot! Now do I enjoy going to either Home Depot or Lowe's overall...? No. I work in IT...I'm not exactly a big hands on, do it yourself, home project guy... The things that make me like going to this Home Depot... 1. The app. If I don't choose to buy the item online and do a pick up the app tells me what aisle the item I'm looking for is in and what section of the aisle I can find it at. 2. They offer a veterans discount. Not much... But it pretty much covers the sales tax here in Iowa anyway... It's easy to sign up for and add to your app if you have ID.me setup. Once it's in your app you just scan the QR code for the discount when you check out. Like any other Home Depot or Lowe's no one is EVER around when you actually need them. And I've learned to deal with that... Lol Parking is easy. The lot is huge and the store is fully handcapped accessible. They do offer a special parking space for veterans as well (one spot). The store is clean and easy to navigate. When I do need to flag someone down for help they are usually personable enough...when you can finally locate someone. The big picture... It is what is is. A HUGE big box store, with affordable prices, housing every item you could need for a project...and then some! read more

This Home Depot is great because they always have a great selection of things and sometimes have some good stuff at cheap prices. I've purchased plants and soil, cleaning supplies, flooring, paint, etc. I like that you can look up the item on your phone and it will tell you what aisle your item is located. I've even purchased products online and picked up the order here a few hours later at their storage lockers. Employees here are friendly and knowledgeable. Uhg- I rarely go to a Home Depot because I always have the same unpleasant experience. Lazy, can't be bothered employees. But it was getting late and I was afraid I wouldn't make it to Lowe's. I walked over to the check out, and saw another customer asking a question- the lazy checker didn't respond and just pulled out her phone- I guess to look up the item, the customer said, "Never mind I can look it up too, but probably faster." Then the lazy can't be bothered cashier, still leaning on a check out stand, said to me in an I'm gonna fall asleep tone, "Those registers are closed." So I went to a different register, then heard another customer say "Is anybody working here that can help us."The lazy employee just sat there on the closed check out stand, but a young man ran over to help. At that point I just pretended like I lost my wallet and left. What was I thinking? I went today Sunday January 12 , I wanted to purchase a bag of the fertilizer that was on clearance sale . It was cold with an unhealthy wind chill but I decided it was time to get my fall fertilizer. I went outside to the garden center my wife stayed inside she has a bad cold . That's when Ed came up to ask her if we needed help to find something. My wife told Ed what was needed he went to customer service got the sku on the fertilizer went out back got a huge climbing stairs , pulled them to the item that was half way heaven , climbed up got the item asked if one was enough and thanked us for waiting . My wife and I went there to buy a washing machine. we were comparing a number of machines for at least 5 -10 minutes when I wondered where the salespeople were. In past experiences with large appliances, I remember wanting to look without being hassled so much. We pretty much decided on one, although we did have a couple of questions. We asked an associate who was passing by. he told us that someone at the desk behind a wall could help us. When I found the desk, there were 3 employees sitting & standing around it, smiling & chatting. One woman immediately jumped to attention, told me that so & so would help me. She looked around, and when she didn't see him anywhere, she headed down the aisle. After another 5 minutes, I started for the customer service desk. My wife called after me, and there were two guys there with her. She said that they could help us. I called back that it was too late, I was on my way to complain. At customer service I asked to speak to the manager. The woman made a call & said that he was on his way. A couple of minutes later one of the guys who had been with my wife showed up. I told him that I didn't want to talk to himbut the manager. He claimed to be the manager. I read his badge & said, 'You're the department assisstant manager, I want to speak to the store manager". He ignored that and instead verbally defended himself. I told him that he wasn't even there for the first 15-20 minutes when we were looking for help. He continued to verbally defended himself, at which point I just said "Ok, you are right. I'm going to Lowes to buy a washer & left. We went home and I ordered a washer online from Lowes! read more

Asked for help with locked tools and the employee I asked was to busy so they called someone else. The someone else never showed to unlock the tool case. I won't waste my time coming here again. Came out with more than a couple. there was a young man working back by the garage doors that was super helpful and seemed knowledgeable. there is always asking if you need help finding something. Don't bother going to this location unless you don't need staff help at all. After the 1st employee left me wait 15 minutes looking for an item, I found them helping another customer. Spoke to the manager, she says the department supervisor will meet me there, 10 minutes later he shows finally and looks around for 3 minutes to tell me the don't have any of the 7 of the item their application/Website and store computers say they have in stock. Proceeds to tell me I should just order it online.... A lot of good that does my business when I needed it that day. Disgraceful customer service and organization. read more

Home Depot and Menards in my opinion are pretty interchangeable stores. Other than their interior decor, the products and staff are nearly the same. There are definitely products you may only find in one store or the other, but nothing that is significant enough to mention. This is only applies if you are looking for a specific item. I always need help when I shop at a home improvement store and the staff members here are knowledgeable and willing to help out! read more

I ordered a new washing machine from Home Depot after Best Buy failed to deliver the one I'd ordered from them... twice. The night before the scheduled delivery day I was given a four hour window for when the washing machine would show up, and amazingly the guys showed up one hour in to the delivery window. Per my order they set up the new machine and took the old one away. So far the new machine is working great and the guys were fine to work with. The fact that they showed up when I was told they would and they did what I had paid for was a huge step up from their competition. read more

This is you typical Home Depot type store! They got more than everything you would need for your latest home or art project! For us it was the latter! When ever I'm in this store I always seem to have a hard time finding a staff member to ask questions! And when it comes to this type of stuff, I always have questions! And I hate having to make multiple trips when I'm working on something. One thing I have discovered here, even the people running the check out are pretty knowledgeable about things! Prices here are pretty low and standard compared to Lowes.. Sometime I dig going to a more local spot, just for the plain fact that their is more time and people to help you and ask questions! I would give this place negative stars if it were allowed. I signed up to meet with someone in the kitchen department to design the layout of my new kitchen cabinets and countertops. The first thing the lady asked me is are you going to install these yourself or have us do it. I told her were would be installing them and she told me that she could not help me. Basically if you do not have them install them, you are on your own. Their website did not say that. Their confirmation email did not say that. I asked the department manager to let her help me and he told me no as well. I drove 45 minutes to get there and was basically told sorry...not sorry. Its too bad. I am flipping a house and I had about $10,000 to spend at their store. I spent some of it at Home Depot in SE Des Moines but I most of it at Menard's instead because of this incident. Also during this trip, I needed a new bathtub. I asked a completely different person to help me. I asked him if there was anything he could do on price to kind of match Menards price and this is an exact quote...he said..."You might find someone up front that will help you but I am not going to do that for you today." It would have been way more polite to just say no sorry instead of I can but I won't. Avoid the West Des Moines store at all costs. I have been having paint matched and samples made at the SE Des Moines store and Lawney is amazing. In fact, everyone in this store is polite and friendly. West Des Moines sucks. read more

I could probably write this review for any of their locations. Comparing this company to Lowes and Menards, they are #1 in our books. This is because of the customer service. When you get someone (and it's on you if you are shopping on the busy weekends, that will obviously take some time), they know their stuff. We recently purchased a lawn mower and our very helpful employee, (shout out to Scott), gave us the rundown. Now, we already did our research on Consumer Reports, so we had an idea of what we wanted, but there were a few models that we were still hemming and hawing about. This guy helped us decipher the differences so that we made an informed decision about our purchase that we feel good about. And this is important because you are spending $$ and want to make the best decision possible. My tips - if possible, shop when it's less busy, like a later weeknight, after dinner, when everyone else is settled in. You can usually find someone right away and they are not only happy to help, they are knowledgeable too. - don't go through big box companies like this for service items such as carpet, garage or whatever else kind of install. Your best bet is to go to a small shop, that specializes in whatever that need is and you will get better service instead of going through a place like this and they are just the middle man, it's chaotic, we experienced that, never again. Because, in the end, are you really saving any $ when you spend all your time making sure it's done right or fixing what is wrong or whatever your situation may be? No. Your time is more valuable than that. read more

I recently had a problem with HD price match guarantee. Bought an item online and later found the same item slightly cheaper also online. I asked the service counter at the store to price match and they refused even though HD advertises this. I contacted, Trisha, the store manager by letter who immediately responded and agreed the price match was legit. The difference was immediately adjusted along with an adequate explanation regarding the error made by the service counter person. I ordered a grill online around 4p, June 20th, for my hubby's birthday. I scheduled to have it picked up in the store so the employees could put the grill together for me. The store manager called around 6pm to let me know that no one was available to put it together until the next day. I checked in 2 days later and the grill was still not assembled. The manager gave me a 10% off for the inconvenience and made sure it was ready by the 3rd day. I also rented their pick up truck to transport the grill to my place. We went in to the store to buy one medal conduit pipe. We waited about 10 minutes before someone came to cut it. A clerk came over and we told him we wanted the 5 foot pipe cut in half. The clerk measured it at 2 foot and started to cut when my husband told him he measured wrong. The clerk said that is why you are here to prevent such a mistake. He then tried to cut it with a plastic cutter. He bent it the middle, but was unable to cut it. Another clerk came by and saw what was going on and told the first clerk that was not the right tool. The clerk then walked us over to Plumbing and right by the pipe cutter machine. Instead of using it, he tried to make us buy a tool cutter. My husband asked him to please cut the pipe in half with the cutter machine. At that point, he just walked off. We decided to take it and somehow fit it in our car. So we proceeded to the checkout counter. The checkout clerk could hardly speak English and told us she needed a skew number and said "don't you understand me." We told her what it was and she rudely handed me her phone and told me to look it up. She then walked around us and started to help the next person in line. We left the conduit on the counter and told her we don't even want it. now. We drove over to Lowes and got what we needed. We received excellent service from them and was in and out in about 5 minutes. We will not be using this Home Deport again. read more

My husband went in today specifically to buy one board, and have it cut before church this morning. It took him a while to get someone to help him, even though there were several employees standing around in a group together. He finally found the board he needed, and got it cut in half, into two 2' 6" pieces. When he went to check out, the kid at the register remeasured the boards, and again they each measured 2'6". The cashier proceeded to tell my husband that it added up to 6' 2". My husband said no, two 2' 6" boards equals 5 feet. The kid again insisted it was 6'2". My husband again tried to explain that 2.5' times two equals 5', but the cashier would not understand. My husband was running out of time before he had to leave for church, and didn't see any other employees around to appeal to, so he just gave up and paid for a 6'2" board, which was about $3 more than he owed. I would give them a zero but it wasn't an option. I purchased Bali Soft Vertical Blinds from Home Depot for my new townhouse. They are an embarrassment. Bali, Springs Window Fashions nor Home Depot will accept responsibility for my very defective blinds. Had a face to face with John Roepke, Home Depot Specialty Assistant Manager. Springs Window Fashions concluded that they did nothing wrong so Mr. Roepke went along with them. I sent a letter to Craig Menear, Chairman, CEO, & President of Home Depot. No response. Springs Window Fashions told me I would have to steam the fabric after installation. I did that and it made no difference. I contacted Discover and since a product was delivered, there was nothing they could do. I am stuck with these very expensive, defective blinds. All I can do is warn the public about the dishonest practices of these 3 companies. Never, never, never purchase Bali blinds, accept blinds made at Springs Window Fashions, nor shop at Home Depot. It's a rare occasion when I have a positive experience here. Today was just one more instance of many that is driving my overall review. I stopped in around 11 AM with a very specific mission, buy the cheapest red mulch I could find. I walk into the garden center and outside of the one guy checking people out, there is no help to be found.. so I wander around looking for someone and then make my way back to the checkout guy. I told him what I needed and the transaction was done in 5 minutes. Then he pointed me to the east side and said someone would be there to help. I walk over and stand around.. no one shows up. I walk back over to the check out and ask him for more information on how this works- do I stand over there? Do I pull my car up? What do I do.. no one is over there. He said pull your car up and someone should be out. Should is the key word. I pull my car up and wait... and wait. I call the store three times. The first two times I was hung up on and then finally someone answered and said they'd page someone over to the mulch area. By this time, I am beyond annoyed. Someone else pulled up waiting for their mulch. When I started loading it up myself he asked if I'd been waiting long.. YES, yes I have. Hey Home Depot, get your ISH together! read more

Came in to buy paint which is advertised in your store. Had the clerk start mixing it while we did some more shopping. When we came back we were told they do not have the paint in stock and wouldn't know if they would be ever getting it. Furthermore were told the paint rep comes in on Tuesdays and they would ask about it. Didn't ask for our information or anything to let us know if they would be able to get paint or not. Awful experience with the carpet and flooring people! No follow-up or Follow through. My floor was supposed to be installed the week of the 14th, and i still do not have an actual date. I made my purchase almost 2 months in advance to avoid any delays. I was told by the install coordinator that a 2 or 3 day notice would be sufficient to set up installation, since i am doing a complete remodel, time is of the essence. for 3 days i tried to contact the install coordinator, only to find out that he was ill, and unable to work.(in a laughing and joking manner i was told that by the flooring manager) One would think that a company as big as home depot would do some follow-up in such a situation, to find out what was going on with the customers in the loop. I should have walked away as soon as i realized how un professional home depot was which was from the first day dealing with them, no follow-up or follow through, i had to keep calling and calling for the measurement, and the estimate. Jerrod, the manager over flooring was the worst when it comes to returning phone calls,in fact today is Saturday, and i have left 3 messages since yesterday. the only thing they are good for is "Dropping the Ball" I should have dealt with a local store instead of a big box store. read more

I visited on a Saturday afternoon and pulled up to a front parking spot, walked in and was immediately overwhelmed as I was there to only purchase a picture hanging hook. This place has everything! Immediately an employee asked if they could help and led me right to the item I was there for! As I was walking to the checkout I browsed at some other items and found some great drawer handles for a pretty good price (I have been looking around for about a month now). This is a great store to come for any of your home needs. I went to check out and there was no line! I do remember coming here last spring to get some gardening stuff and the lines were ridiculously long and everyone was complaining about the wait, that time I had a nice young man help me with what I was looking for, he piled it all up on a flat cart and brought to my car after I was done waiting in line and checked out, so still no complaints, I am a patient person. Purchased a tankless hot water heater. Opened a charge account to get the $100 discount. Tried to do a split payment and use a gift card. NOPE! Did you know a GIFT CARD is considered a DISCOUNT? Did you know CASH is considered a DISCOUNT? The only way you can purchase an item with the Home Depot credit card is to put the entire purchase on it. Most cashiers would ask for help, right? I asked for a manager who was just not interested in coming to the register to help the poor soul who couldn't perform the task. In fact pretty much said take it or leave it. Not coming over. I'm NOT impressed with any of it. I have NEVER been to a store that can't take a split payment for merchandise, let alone one that calls a split payment a DISCOUNT. This is RIDICULOUS! Sent Home Depot an email to customer service. They have not responded either. WOW. They have things I need, but their Customer Service scores 0. Good thing Lowes is just down the street! read more
