We stayed in a double queen on the 3rd floor, and the room was perfect. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean, and the staff were very polite and accommodating. We picked this hotel partly because of its haunted history, and although we didn't see any ghostly apparitions ourselves we really enjoyed touring the grounds and learning about its history. From the mystery of the hauntings to the very real celebrity and military guests over the years, the Bentley was certainly worth a visit and we'd happily stay there again. read more

The hotel is historically old but the accommodations were great for the cheap price. We particularly enjoyed walking around and looking at all the historic decor. There's a bar, The Mirror Room attached that had a band so we danced and had fun. The Diamond Grill is across the street which is delicious so this is a perfect date night getaway spot! I deducted a star because parking was not ideal especially with luggage. There's no valet at this hotel and you have to find street or public parking lot parking. Nice, historic hotel. The lobby is stunning and great to walk around in. The feel of the hotel is great. It's obviously old, and they've done some updating here and there. Some things were a little on the dirtier side. Needs painting, window cleaning (could barely see the river through the windows), our bathroom tiles were moving and coming up in some parts. On the plus side it is "haunted" so we were able to feel/see the little girl and possible sense some others! Our 1 year old even stopped by the staircase and waved before continuing down the hall. The bed was soft! Probably too soft for some people. The rooms were huge! We had a pack n play setup for our daughter and our suitcase open on the luggage rack wide open and still had plenty of room to walk around. Overall, it's a nice hotel. Walking distance of a few churches, a coffee shop, the river, (right across the bridge is a fantastic lunch Buffett at southern creations), museum, lounge downstairs, etc. Oh, I almost forgot parking. If you get there before the lounge opens you will probably have a parking spot, but if you get there after you may have some trouble as it gets packed in the parking lot and on the street. I'd recommend staying here as I find it fun to stay in historical buildings. But we also wanted the haunted experience. read more

We stayed here 3 days and got no service to the room for new towels. Went to the desk the first night and they gave us 2 towels and told us to turn the DO NOT DISTURB sign around and they would service our room the next day. They did not service our room the next day and we caught the cleaning team, as they were leaving, to get more towels. They told us to just throw the dirty towels by the door and they would get them in the morning. The cleaning personnel are very lazy. I will never stay in this hotel again and dont recommend it to anyone. I ONLY PUT A "1" BECAUSE IT IS A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL!!!!! I would also like to add that the restaurant staff was very polite and courteous. The Gumbo was made by a Yankee and not very good. We are from very south Louisiana and used to REAL GUMBO. On the menu, the only thing that looked appetizing was the Shrimp Salad, which we shared because it was large. This is another reason I gave this hotel a "1". They need to hire better help and hire a new restaurant manager who knows what Real Louisina cooking is. This hotel has real potential and needs the right person to run it. read more

We used this hotel to host a pre-graduation celebration for my daughter. The price was reasonable, and the party room itself was beautiful--it came with tables, chairs, and tablecloths already set up, which we appreciated. The valet staff was also very helpful and courteous. However, I was extremely disappointed with the customer service experience. When I booked the room, I was told we could use the space for the entire day. But just an hour into setup, a staff member approached me and asked how long we planned to stay. I informed her we would be wrapping up around 4 PM--still almost two hours away. Unfortunately, the situation quickly soured. As we were cleaning up, unaware of any new scheduling conflicts, a staff member named Martha abruptly entered the room with a scowl on her face. Without any courtesy or explanation, she told us another party was arriving in five minutes and then walked out. There was no prior notice or polite request to adjust our timeline--just a cold, dismissive attitude. Martha's behavior was unprofessional and, frankly, came off as discriminatory--especially considering we were rushed out only to see an all-white group preparing to enter the space. Had we been informed earlier of any changes to the room schedule, we would have been more than willing to adjust. The lack of communication and respect was deeply disappointing and left a negative impression on what should have been a joyful day. I hope this hotel takes steps to ensure all guests are treated with fairness, respect, and professionalism--regardless of race or background. read more

What used to be a grand hotel is now dirty and sad. My wife wanted to treat us for a Luxury anniversary stay because she lived down the street during its prime. No valet, difficult parking on the street, smelly rooms, mold on the ceiling tiles in the hallways. So disappointing. read more

The Hotel Bentley is no longer the grand establishment it once was. After nearly 25 years since my last visit, I was heartbroken to see how far this historic property has fallen. If I could give it zero stars, I would. To start, there is no longer valet parking, which sets the tone for what's to come. Guests are left to hunt for street parking, which is nearly impossible, and then drag their bags--alone--down the street to the hotel. Upon entering, the disappointment continues. The lobby floors and elevators were littered with trash and debris. The once-beautiful brass elevator doors were streaked and spotted, as if someone had attempted to clean them with dirty water. The hallways and rooms are in a shocking state of disrepair. Paint is peeling off the walls, and the carpets are not just worn but filthy, stained, and in my room, riddled with bleach marks. The odor throughout the hotel is an overwhelming fruity chemical scent, which did nothing to mask the black mold or mildew visible on falling ceiling tiles. This trip was supposed to be special. I came to Alexandria to spend Christmas with my family for the first time in four years and to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The Bentley I remembered was supposed to add a touch of elegance and nostalgia to the occasion. Instead, it was a disappointing and uncomfortable experience. I truly cannot understand how this hotel is receiving 5-star reviews. I have to wonder where those reviewers have stayed before because The Hotel Bentley in its current state doesn't even deserve one star. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place entirely. This is the grande dame of Alexandria. She is old, she is sturdy, and she is grand. The food and drinks in the hotel are good and strong. Front desk lady was friendly and we laughed a bit about Easter candy. She was fun. My room was really big and well-appointed. It was quiet in there and I appreciated that. I don't think the rooms are as modern as I'd like them to be, given the state of the lobby. I expected more, but it was still a great stay. I will be staying there again in October. read more

Old Louisiana Elegance at a great price!! This famous hotel has a list of dignitaries that has enjoyed it almost as long as the Red River! President, generals, oil tycoons, movie stars, and the who's who of the South! I can imagine them sitting on the veranda in one of the white rockers sipping an iced tea! It is a gorgeous art deco inspired, 110+ year old grand hotel that feels like a museum! It does have a WWII museum exhibit by the way! It has spirits all its own! You will feel the old world class and charm! Part of it is a condos and there are about 100 hotel rooms. The lobby is worth spending a few minutes admiring it all! The entry after hours can be a little tough as the lobby is upstairs (the adjoining river has flooded from time to time) and no elevator. Parking in front was allowed for us as it was a Thursday night and not a thing was happening downtown! The Hotel night clerk was serious about helping us with our luggage, but we managed. The room was wonderful for a historic structure like this! We loved the view of the Red River! The late night club in lowest level is a wonderful cocktail lounge. But once you receive your room key things get a little bumpy from there I stayed in RM 330, which is a corner room WITHOUT a view, an unpleasant odor and sound consumed the room nightly for my 2 nights there I had breakfast at the restaurant beneath the main lobby and it was fairly delicious aside from the poor lighting & no utensils given. Challenges (and deal breakers for ever returning): we were quoted one rate by the reservationist that wasn't honored, first night was in one room in which the toilet leaked slowly all night so that the bathroom floor was flooded the next morning, room we were switched to was lovely but there was no accommodation or consideration given for the price of the first night. Talk about a throw back to a bygone era. The Hotel Bentley is one of those places they no longer build. The marble floors, the fountain in the lobby, the mosaic tiles - they just don't make 'em like this anymore. I was in town to speak at a conference and neglected to get a reservation at the host hotel before it sold out. The next closest place was the Bentley. Boy did I score! The place is really nice and the staff go out of their way to accommodate. The rooms are clean and well apportioned. The public space is also clean and neatly designed. One clear measure of a decent place to stay - the bathroom amenities and towels are all high end, as are the sheets and bedding. Sure - the place is old and has gone through some "pains" over the years, but the bones of the hotel are rock solid and very inviting. If I had one complaint about the place it would be the mold smell that permeates the public spaces and seeps into some of the rooms. It is not overwhelming, but for those of us with an olfactory affliction, you can catch a scent of mold when walking in the lobby. Alas, that's what you get when you put a fountain in the lobby. I really like the place and hope they can stay open. They represent a solid connection to a history for the Central Louisiana area and offer so much more than rooms to rent. Here is hoping the next time I am in the area they are still open. read more

The lobby and bar look like a historic 4 star hotel, however, the poor customer service, pile of unknown dirty linen left outside our room for 24 hrs, human hairballs on our stained bedroom carpet, shower/ bath that didn't drain and bedroom door left wide open by cleaners was not. We checked in on Christmas Eve 2018, and almost none of the basic expectations (I really should say commodities) were met. Room wasn't clean, and almost any services was poorly done or completely not staffed. If hotels will not operate on a holiday, especially when they have accepted reservations, then when should they? And why keeping doors open? The front desk guy conveyed the least amount of certainty and empathy, I have ever seen, about any topic you would raise with them like: will your restaurants be open tomorrow? do you know which restaurants will be open tomorrow? will there be room service today/tomorrow? can you hear me? They weren't short of "no" and "I am not sure" answers. Were too generous with these. Whoever gave this hotel a 4 star ranking is on a quest to jeopardize and tarnish the whole idea of hotels rating and ranking systems. Job well done, Hotels reputation Grinch! Maybe, maybe, this hotel was something during world war II, or 20 years ago, but definitely it is now a strong hold of misery, poor service and failed expectations, with hefty booking and reservation fees. read more

If I could give it a "0" I would because we did not get to stay there. We made a reservation with Expedia for a 4 night stay - 2 weeks ahead of our stay. We showed up and they told us they did not have a room for us and claimed they called us and told us there were no rooms. Why would they call us and not the 3rd party, since we made the reservation with the 3rd party? Nothing made sense...so we asked to see the manager and WOW she was one of the rudest ladies we have ever met (and believe me we have traveled all over the world). Martha Turner - I can not believe she is the manager of this hotel, anyway, she said we don't have a room for you and we will not accommodate you at another hotel. Thank goodness the 3rd party reservation company took care of us. DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION AT THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE OF GETTING THERE AND NOT HAVING A ROOM!! We have a 2nd home on Lake Kincaid and will never recommend our friends to stay here when visiting us. read more

We stayed in the honeymoon suite for 5 days and it was awesome! The room was clean and updated. While there, we ordered room service from the Bentley Room restaurant and the food was excellent! We also rented the Forum ballroom for a party for my husband. The receptionists were all friendly and helpful and Ms. Martha was awesome. She assisted with booking the ballroom and the setup. I reached the hotel at noon and at first there was no one at the front desk. After 15 minutes someone showed up and told me my room wasn't ready, but will be in about an hour and they'll call me. When I did not receive any call over the next two hours, I called them but there was no answer. I finally went back (after just hanging out at a local coffee shop for 3 hours) at 330 pm. The room was still not ready! And I was told I will have to wait another hour. I guess the only good thing was that they agreed to cancel my reservation and I was able to go to holiday inn across the street (which was a whole lot better AND cheaper!) read more

This is a gorgeous historic building downtown in the heart of Alexandria. The art museum is next door and there are lots of restaurants and places to shop nearby. It's located on the Red River and there are great views of it and the bridge. Free parking right outside. Valet services are suspended right now (7/2021) with the pandemic. Check in was a breeze, and the staff is really friendly. There are dividers in place. The rooms are really spacious, beautifully decorated, and very clean. It's the only hotel I have ever felt okay walking in the room barefoot. The carpet was really clean and there were nice marble-like tiles in the bathroom. I loved the historic feel with the old windows and high bed with an antique headboard. The bed was incredible, probably the most comfortable bed ever, and all of the bedding felt great and actually smelled clean. The water was nice and hot, and there was good water pressure despite being on the 5th floor. I enjoyed the large tub and the fact that there was actually a stopper. The hotel is quiet, the hallways are nice and cool and smell clean, and everything seems well-maintained. I really liked the fountain and the old elevators. There is an ATM in the lobby, coffee, a small store for necessities, a restaurant which looked amazing but disclaimer, we didn't try it. There's a bar also I believe. Doordash and Uber Eats do deliver here. Best of all, the price is great for what you get. The people that work here that we encountered are so nice, and that makes all the difference. read more

Ask around town, everyone is familiar with the Hotel Bentley. Everyone will tell you their OG experience occurred many a year ago. This hotel is not That hotel in their memory. After a failed reopen after closing for many years, this is a new 2nd attempt at revamping a historic location downtown. This time with wide scale renovations from top to bottom in the making. The hotel itself lends an air of grandness and ballroom mystique, with it's raised ceilings, marble encased elevators, and dual staircase landing. There is still much work to be done, from the decor to a fitness center to broken fixtures in the rooms, but you can definitely see if all these modifications are to be had, it will definitely be a place to behold. The rooms do not have irons available, but a quick call to the front will solve that. The staff is bar-none an exemplary of southern hospitality, from the front desk to the housekeeping service. Parking is free on the streets and very easy to find available spots. Wifi is complementary. Location is very convenient and within walking distance to many restaurants downtown. I would imagine they are pet friendly since during my stay many of the dog breeders for the Alexandria Kennel Club convention were rooming as well. read more

Stayed at the Bentley two nights last week. Beautiful old hotel with a great history. Staff is very friendly - especially Henry at the front desk. Restaurant served an excellent Sunday Brunch and the bar was lively and fun on Saturday night. Prices for rooms and food were very reasonable. Beds are very comfortable, towels are excellent quality.
