My old dependable Hybrid needed some minor repair so I took it to The Hub after checking on line reviews and talking with a few friends. When I arrived the first thing I noticed was ATTITUDE! My apologies, but it's not a $7k carbon fiber road bike. It's just my old faithful golf cart and bike path cruiser. It's a bit old, but in great shape and worth putting a bit of money into from time to time. BUT...... the tactic worked. They don't have to deal with me or my old bike. There's an early review about the staff not being friendly that I hadn't seen before. Sounds like this isn't an isolated instance. I went to another shop in town and was made to feel welcome and appreciated. When I get the bike back I'll post a review of that shop and let you know how the repairs went, but I suspect they'll be my shop of choice from now on. Bottom line, High end expensive road bike, Probably the Hub should be your go to. Other than that, there are other shops in town who will welcome your business. read more

I rented a few bikes from them, and the bikes they provided worked as expected, just fine. However, my experience with the staff was the exact opposite of the "friendly" anecdote I've seen in several other reviews. The owner of the shop was oddly passive-aggressive to myself and some others present at the time. I would not have tolerated this if I really didn't need the bikes in a pinch. There are other bike shops in the area whose bikes would probably do the the job (roll) equally as well. In summary, they provided a very standard service that is no better or worse than that of any other bike shop, but I can live without the BS. If I ever needed to rent another bike in this area again, I'll look elsewhere. read more

I would highly recommend them. We rented 2 bicycles and they patiently took their time to explain everything about the bike before we left the store. The rental bikes are a good brand and are in great condition. There is also plenty of parking in front of the store. read more

Cute little bicycle shop in Athens. I couldn't find the entrance at first, actually, because the sign outside makes it seem like the store is a part of/directly connected with Half Moon Outfitters. But all you have to do is go downstairs, and then you'll find it. Store has semi decent selection; I had come to buy a little bell for my bike. Staff is also fairly knowledgeable; one staff member was certainly able to answer some questions I had about buying a mirror for my bike (helmet vs. direct attachment to handlebars). However, I'm going to guess that you'll probably be able to find better prices online somewhere. Overall, a good, friendly, experience especially considering I was wearing my GT fleece. (In fact, the cashier commented that I was "brave" to be wearing that jacket there!) read more

Here's my saga requiring 4 dropoffs/pickups of my bike: (1)Took bike in with flat rear tire. Tire worn, so I requested new tire. Result: they fixed flat, but didn't replace tire. But, I had scheduled tune up for next week, so figured they could finish the job then. Was told I needed "level 2" service (more expensive disassembly and cleaning). (2) Dropped bike off for service. Was called and asked if I really wanted level 2 service, which wasn't need (of course not, if not needed). Picked up bike after routine service. 15 mins into ride at home, rear wheel wobbled loose. (3) returned bike for adjustment. Employee test rode and said problem fixed. I rode myself and found gears slipping. Another adjustment and I took home. (4) Before the end of a second short ride, brake calipers started rubbing on rim. Returned bike for another adjustment. Still waiting to see if this is the end of the story. No apology or compensation for my inconvenience was offered, and employee who dealt with me most, had a condescending attitude (as noted in other reviews). read more

September 2021 Blake Byler Ortman I have purchased two Hybrid Trek bikes from the Hub and both times was happy with the excellent, knowledgeable, friendly staff. The first Hybrid I purchased was Trek 7.3FX. When, after about 3 years of riding, (about 15,000 miles) that bike had a broken frame, I took it back to the Hub. They said the frame was under warranty and quickly replaced it. I have ridden that second bike 46,500 miles in 8 1/2 years, replacing many chains, cables, cassettes and of course tires. I have been very satisfied with that bike. But, with many parts wearing out (loose bottom bracket, torn saddle, headset needing overhaul, shifters badly worn needing to be replaced, both rims loose and one axle broken along with a few other issues) I decided to get a new bike. So, I went back to the Hub and purchased a very similar bike- Hybrid Trek FX 2. I have had that bike for a month, am enjoying it and have good reason to hope that this bike will do as well as the last one. The world needs more great bike shops like the Hub. read more

I often browse this store when I stop by Jittery Joes. My mother is in the market for her first adult bike, and I wanted to ask them some questions, but there was a line. So I decided to go into the coffee shop first. The man was extremely rude and condescending to me and told me to move my car, because it was a prime spot for a customer. Guess I don't look like I have enough money to be their customer? Would not recommend. read more

So I'm trying to help my girlfriend replace her tube on her mountain bike, and we go in there and ask for a standard size mountain bike tube. Dude takes the situation way too seriously and says there's three standards. I'm like yea whatever, you know what I mean, the standard standard, and he's like no I don't know what you mean, there's three standards and rattles off the numbers. Totally condescending. Totally unwilling to try and look at the situation from my perspective. It's just a shitty old mountain bike with the same size wheels they all used to have! I understand he wants to make sure he sells us the right tube, but fuck dude, what's with the superior attitude!? We go with the 26" and when he grabs the tube it's from the stack that has only a few left. Pretty fucking obvious it's the one he sells the most of! I'll never go back. Chill out dude. read more

Well, my first negative review EVER. I called and inquired about the 7 a.m. rides. Showed up at 6:40 a.m. so excited for the no-drop ride!!! I am a native of Athens, was in town to see my mother who had been in the hospital. I'm training for a 67 mile ride in Colorado (where I've lived for 20 years). I've been riding 40+ miles so far. I was excited to ride in my home town. The gentleman (Jim?) hosting the ride was coming out of the store. I introduced myself and said I was there to ride but needed to rent a bike because I was visiting. I was met with rudeness, no explanation, no warmth. Just that there was "no time" to do that. I went into the jittery joes and when I came out I saw Jim ride away with two other riders. I hope this is not what my lovely home town of Athens has become. I was raised in a small-business family in Athens. My father would have not had a business if he treated folks that way. "Jim" and the folks at The Hub need to visit Denver, Boulder, Frisco, Breckenridge, etc., and go into a few bike shops to see what amazing service and love of cycling does for a community!!! If I could, I would have given this a ZERO star. Good luck with your service in the future Hub. Please be nicer to people. read more

I was in need of purchasing a new mountain bike after loosing my old Trek to the interstate (that's another story). Being relatively new to the biking scene, I knew very little on bikes and what I should be looking for in a new one, especially since I was riding more. I ventured to The Hub first since they are the only Trek dealer in town. One of the sales persons helped me out in exploring all of their options for mountain bikes. I had so many questions regarding the various types of mountain bikes. I knew I was taking up a lot of the guy's time, but he was very patient with me and answered every question I had with a solid and very knowledgeable response. Needless to say, I learned a lot from my visit there. I took this information and shopped around at other shops in town and asked the same questions. I ultimately decided to go back to The Hub to make my purchase simply because the staff was so nice, knowledgeable and patient with me throughout my shopping experience. I love my new bike!
