I had to have surgery that was emergency definitely not expected. I was going to have to see the surgeon the next morning to make sure that my eye looks how it should after the surgery, so we needed a room to stay in overnight by UCLA. For my last surgery, we stayed at the Tiverton UCLA. Talk about beautiful, spacious, just gorgeous hotel. For under $200, they give a discount if you are having surgery or appointments at UCLA. My husband left and went to go get a room at the Tiverton for after my surgery, but it was full so we had to stay at the Inn. I could not see when we came in. I had a patch over one eye, and the ointment they put over the other, I was completely blind going into the room. The next morning, I saw the room it was tiny nothing special. I didn't know what they charged until coming home and talking to my husband. When I saw the receipt, I almost died. I want to say it was $45 to park, compared to zero at Tiverton. The room was completely outdated. The breakfast is better at the Inn than at the Tiverton, still sandbags in front of the sliding glass door? Just an outdated place to stay if you are near UCLA. When I was shown this receipt, I can't even believe what we were charged. I can't recommend this place. Absolutely not, wasn't clean. My Family got bed bug bites, itched for days. The breakfast, starts too late, only cold cereal after 7 AM. and fruit. Not enough towels, no kleenex and shower was dirty. We slept two nights at the Inn while my son went to orientation at UCLA. Overall, the stay was so so. The room had an overwhelming deodorant smell that fused with the musky odor coming from the old carpets. I had a hard time sleeping and kept the window open, though it barely helped to diffuse the smell. Our bathroom also had ants crawling in and around the sink. On the bright side, the breakfast in the lobby was good. There were bagels, muffins, cereals, an assortment of fruit and vegetables and smoked salmon. Overall, I'm not sure I can recommend this place. We have at least four more years of visits to UCLA. I'm hoping we can find a better place to stay, honestly. read more

The Tiverton was much nicer than I expected from the reviews and incredibly convenient to the medical center. The front desk staff was so nice and helpful. Their continental breakfast included glutten free bagels, an unexpected treat for me! The only negative was no housekeeping during our 2 night stay. Stayed for one night for an MBA campus visit. It was super convenient to walk to my tour from this location, and I enjoyed the breakfast and comfortable room as well. I didn't pay for my two-night stay and was super happy with the overall experience. The location on campus is ideal. It's in a perfect spot, which is difficult usually at UCLA because it is sprawling. It's away from the Greek house madness, and on the eastern fringe. If you have a conference near these places then you are in luck: Luskin School of Public Affairs, Ralph Bunche Library, Young Research Library, Student Center, Law School and Library, Bunch Hall, etc. Breakfast was excellent. Far superior to any hotel breakfast that most Americans are used to, and had more of a European flavor. Fresh fruit, eggs, cold cuts, smoked salmon, cereals (even cream of wheat), coffees, teas, etc. And the standard danishes if that's your jam (no pun intended ***grimace***). read more

Checked in at 315 (check in is at 3) and room was not ready. We parked car in garage and then it was "ready." I was hopeful but walked in and there are stains on the carpet. Toilet had residue on seat and was not clean (I had to clean it) and very visible fingerprints all over desk. Housekeeping seems to be in a rush. Seems like you're paying for location. I stay at Best Westerns much better than this. I expect to not have to wipe down the toilet seat for $289 a night. Would've asked for a different room but hosts at desk already seemed annoyed when we asked if check in started at 3 (because room wasn't ready yet). Housekeeping came by and asked if there was anything they can do (presumably because they saw this review), but we'd already cleaned it. read more

This is now my rival school, but I have extensive ties to UCLA. One way in which those ties persist is that sometimes I meet family of friends here at the guest house. From here, adventure around LA begin. To get here, entering from the east side of campus is best. It is not a far drive within campus from there, and there is a long loading-only section. Parking within UCLA can be a pain in the neck, so make sure the people you are picking up from here are ready to go. The guest house is comparable to a comfortable inn. There are medical school hopefuls, undergrad hopefuls, and visiting scholars that inhabit this place throughout the school year. The surrounding area is beautiful, and quite peaceful at night. An added plus is their coffee. A comfortable place + easy caffeine access = 5 stars. read more

I have a question: Why do people lay out a bunch of money to stay in a hotel if they're just going to stay up all night? I have another question: Why do I always get stuck in a room next to these clowns??? I have two complaints about the UCLA Guest House. One is the ultra-thin walls. Our neighbors felt the need to watch tv until the wee hours, and then turned the tv off and talked until the wee wee hours. WHY??? GO TO SLEEP, FOOLS! If you want to carouse, go do it in the lobby. This is a university, not VEGAS. We were attending a graduation ceremony at the UCLA campus and I got, oh, about 3 hours of sleep (and that's being generous) because of the thin walls coupled with the caffeinated neighbors. But really, that's not the fault of the hotel. My other complaint is the fact that the controls on the in-wall fan and a/c are locked (I am not exagerating). You have to use the wall-mounted thermostat, however I could not get it to come on. I called the front desk and the person who answered was the same one who wearily checked us in (at about 10-11 pm on Friday night, June 15th - larger African-American woman). She didn't seem to have any more energey when asked her on the phone if there is a fan on this thermostat. She had to ask someone, came back and said "no." I asked how to turn on the a/c, she said "put it on auto." I did. Nothing. But hey, the a/c came on about 7 a.m. the next morning! Score! The woman at the front desk in the morning was much nicer (and more awake). She checked us out, no problem. This is a nice place to stay for a good rate for the area (you are in the middle of Bel Air after all). If you're lucky you can find a free parking spot underground, if not, there's a lot not far away for $10-11. You must have an affiliation with UCLA, or the hospital, to stay here. There are convenient shuttles that will take you to Westwood and the medical center. In previous reviews people have mentioned that the water pressure in the shower is weak. I found that to be the case, however, there's a tab on the showerhead that allows you to change the waterpressure. Nice continental breakfast in the morning, coffee and tea all day in the lobby. It's a nice place, very cozy. Just hope that you will be put in a room next to someone who will actually sleep. read more

Room is kind of small, but clean and the bed was great! The comforter was sooooo cozy! And the air conditioner worked well, even when it was close to 100 degrees outside. Elevator is a little sketchy - makes a lot of squeaky noises, which was scary. Also kind of tricky to get to the location with a GPS - as my GPS kept losing me :/ Overall, a good experience. Free Internet, which I love - but can't smoke in the room...and I LOVE smoking in hotel rooms so I was bummed. There is a smoking area right out the front door though so that was cool. My husband and I, being the die hard bruins we are, got married on campus last November. A lot of our out of towners stayed here, as did I. We were very pleased with the accommodations! The rates are incredibly reasonable, they range from $177-$182 a night, flat rate, no taxes! That is incredible price for Westwood! And breakfast is included! The place is clean and the staff very friendly. Also, parking is available, but they do run out. Not a big deal if you are not renting a car. Good location, fair continental breakfast, limited seating to eat breakfast. We were in room 350 and it was loud. The staff was going in and out of their lounge and also the stairwell. I thought the elevator right outside our room would be the problem but it was the noisy staff. Also I think in the other side of our wall there was a washer. So that was annoying. I wouldn't stay there again if there was another option. Plus we had to pay a higher rate due to it being family weekend. I think 2 1/2 stars would be more accurate. read more

I have stayed at the guest house before and as an alum of UCLA am very proud to have it on campus and it serves as a shining representation of my alma mater. However, I just had a very off putting encounter with the front desk staff who, when I asked if they offered an alumni discount, VERY zealously described how NO alumni are allowed to stay at the guest house. I am fully aware of the policy that in order to stay you must have business on campus, but I was shocked to hear of this NO alumni policy. After some brief questioning I came to find out that yes you can indeed be an alum, but must have official business. Attn: manager please train your front desk staff on their verbiage and delivery of information! This establishment is worthy of five star customer service to match its five star legacy. read more

The place is nice and new but the parking is scarce because this is free for the resident. No parking signs are posted in the surround area. Last night me and family came back by 10pm and we could not find a parking. Parking in front of the house in loading zone behind two vehicles which belongs to the house keepings, I had been threatened for a couple of times for receiving illegally parking ticket. It was ridiculous that The house keepers could park in the loading zone but I could not. They were not helpful at all and They suggested I could pay for $12 for a parking but the parking lot is at the unknown location. No direction were given... PREVIOUS POST: Usually I give high praises for UCLA Guest House; not this visit. I gave a heart transplant that is in rejection and made my reservation over a month ago based on direction from my docs. Several weeks ago I called to reserve a room with two beds as my father wanted to join just in case. Last week I called to extend the reservation for an additional night They got the additional night but not the two beds. Luckily there was one available, for ONE night. Hey, we'll make you change rooms but give you a roll-away cot for free! I'm at the hospital all day which means my 73 yr old father gets to change rooms on his own. On a good note, I've never gotten a patio in the 5+ years I've been staying here. On the bad, there was an old Kleenex and cheese covered by ants there as well. Internet was down. For $20 more a night, I'll be staying at the W in my future every other week stays when Tiverton is not available. UPDATE: While we still had to change rooms Maydene made sure we had two beds. TV wasn't connecting and Joseph, GM, came to our room to fix when UCLA decided it was almost time to leave. Good guest recovery, Joseph! read more

A hotel on campus? What an amazing concept! I booked a room by calling in a week before I needed to stay here and the staff was super friendly from the time I called to reserve to the moment I checked out. They informed me that parking was first come first serve but when I arrived late Thursday night the parking lot was basically empty so I had no issues what so ever. The lobby is quaint, clean, and nicely set up. There is 24 hour free coffee and tea and in the mornings there is an extensive free continental breakfast. I mean assorted bagels, muffins, scones, toast, cream cheese, smoked fish, oatmeal, croissants, coffee, tea, fruit salad etc. a lot more than I expected. The room itself was clean, cozy, and all anyone would need for reasons they would be at UCLA guest house. I mean no one is coming here to have a party in the room or needs extensive bathroom space for girls getting ready for what have you. You're here for a meeting or a conference for a night or two, and for that reason it fits the bill perfectly. I just docked a star because they double charged me on my credit card. All in all it's a great place if you're in the area for a night and has a very reasonable rate. Check it out. read more

If I were to base my review entirely on my experience while I was actually at the UCLA Guest House, it could be nothing less than 5 stars. The moment we arrived, the front desk staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The room itself was great, with all the amenities I needed, including free access to UCLA's wireless network. The bed was very comfortable, and the complimentary breakfast in the morning was very high quality. Complimentary Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf coffee, tea, and hot cocoa were available in the great room 24 hours a day. There were bikes available for rental, as well as a shuttle that ran regularly through campus and to Westwood Village. There was a small mixup in my reservation, but the front desk staff worked tirelessly to resolve it. The location was very convenient to the eastern side of campus, and even a walk to the opposite end of campus didn't take too long. Most of the rooms are singles, so it may not work so well if you need to share a room. The rates are extremely reasonable; I doubt you could find better in the immediate area. Really, the only problem I encountered was in attempting to make the reservation itself, which was a cumbersome process of leaving phone messages and exchanging faxes. When I did finally reach someone on the phone, the person was not very helpful, thus the mixup in my reservation I described earlier. But like I said, once I got there, everything was fine. My only other issue is that there is not much to eat nearby; there is a casual campus eatery not too far away, but it doesn't have much in the way of food and doesn't stay open too late. Next time I attend a conference at UCLA, I will definitely consider staying here again, though I will also look into the Tiverton House, which is a little farther from campus but closer to Westwood Village. FYI all guests must have an affiliation with the UC system or be visiting UCLA for a campus-related activity. read more

This place is great for those trips were modern and trendy are not a factor. Now I'm not speaking badly of this place, but if you're looking for a young hip establishment this isn't for you. This is most often used for families that are moving their kids into UCLA. However, I stayed here with family while they were volunteering at the Tennis Classic being held at UCLA. They have a small underground parking garage which can fill up quickly. At which point you need to find street parking that is metered. There is a bus line one street over and is very close to local shops and tons of restaurants! The nightlife is full of college students so if that is also not your thing, then that's something to consider. They offer complimentary breakfast which includes an assortment of fresh fruit, muffins, pastries, dry cereals, coffee, and juices. The staff are all quite pleasant and helpful and ready to assist with direction or suggestions. They also have a room with Internet access that contains 2 computers. This place was more affordable than booking a hotel. Oh and one final note... My sister had received flowers from a friend that she placed in a paper cup in the bathroom. After maid service we noticed they had placed them in a glass vase for her. One of those nice unexpected touches that makes you feel appreciated. read more

The bed was perfectly fine! I like a firm bed. and the covers were really outstanding for a hotel--a nice thick duvet which is good cause it gets chilly here at night. I had no kitchenette or fridge but didn't really want one. Best of all--in-room iphone charger and player that also accommodates an ipad! saved me from buying a new charger since I forgot mine. very close to campus shuttle which is the best way to get around here anyway. I got here by taking the Flyaway bus from LAX (10 bucks) and the campus shuttle which picks up right across the street and is free. super convenient and good for saving the earth--no one needs a private ride when the public option is this good. read more

As long as you are NOT in Rooms 170 or 130, you should be okay. The rooms are nice, the staff is helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean-although the carpet is somewhat worn. The breakfast is great and the afternoon snacks and drinks are wonderful. I got in late in the evening and they placed me in Room 170. I began unpacking my bags when what sounded like a vacuum behind the headboard started. Hmm, there's no way that I could sleep with that. So, I called the front desk and then they placed me in 130, which they warned would be loud since it was beside the kitchen. They placed me in Room 100, which was also loud due to a air pump outside. But was fine as long as you keep your slider closed. If you can't hear too well, these rooms are probably okay. But being that I needed to move three times, it lost one star. read more

After I left the noisy Hilgard Hotel, I need a place to stay. Decided to try the UCLA Guest house. Would have given it 4 stars but the first floor room I was within earshot of the lobby clerks. They blast their music and chat with no regard to their guests. I asked them nicely to bring it down, instead, they closed the hallway door to help with the noise. Bad move since their voices carried. I would recommend if you want to avoid the W prices but insist on a second floor room to avoid the chatterboxes at the front desk. read more

The room was dark and smelled like old men's cologne, looking out onto a creepy ground floor courtyard. I didn't like it. There's no food or bar in the hotel, except for vending machines (!). My room had ants and the wireless kept going in and out. On the plus side, pillows were fluffy and toiletries were nice. They advertise 24hr complimentary coffee and tea bar but there was no coffee at 3:30 AM. When I asked for some fresh coffee, front desk person told me they don't make coffee until 5AM. I mentioned about their advertisement and then the guy told me that he was going to make some coffee as if he was doing me a favor or something. Coffee station hasn't been cleaned all night either. I used half and half that sat out God knows how long because I don't want to bother the front desk guy who sits on his a** with earphone not doing anything. So much for Deluxe Hotel. Only reason I got this place was because all the hotels nearby were all sold out. Had better experience at Motel 6 with friendly staff. I am not wasting any money at this place again. I've stayed at the UCLA guest house twice now; if you're an academic visiting the campus it really can't be beat. The included breakfast is nice, with a lot of breads/pastries and various bagel accoutrements, as well as good hot oatmeal and an automated espresso machine. You can have a good tuck-in before a day of meetings. The staff are very helpful, and arrange taxis for departure nicely. This is a really well-appointed place to stay! read more

While the young guest staff is friendly, and the location is ideal for on campus activities, I do have some complaints. The reservation staff botched our reservations 3 out of 4 of the times that I stayed. In fact, the last time they insisted that we canceled the reservation even though my assistant and I were the only ones that were even aware of it. Also, the beds are lumpy and need to be upgraded. The continental breakfast is nice, and the general facilities are totally adequate, and they do have on-site parking. So, if you can actually get in, its not too bad. They still get two stars for botching several reservations though. read more

We stayed here recently for two nights, returning as we remembered the hotel fondly. You must have an association with UCLA to stay here, but the prices are great and the location is right on campus. There is some free parking, but it is not guaranteed with the room. We had no problem finding a space. There is a nice breakfast included, hard boiled eggs, breads and pastries, and fruit. Coffee Bean teas and coffee are available in the breakfast area 24 hours a day. It is an older hotel, nothing fancy, but was quiet and clean. There is a a low flow shower head, but that is in most CA hotels now and seemed fine. I read the reviews before booking and noted the one review for a hard bed. When we arrived, we found they have replaced the beds since our last stay with the hardest most uncomfortable beds we have ever slept on. From La Quinta to Fairmont, we have stayed at dozens of hotels in recent years and this was unlike anything I have ever found in a hotel. I was up half the night and ended up sleeping on top of the comforter with the extra blanket on me to get some padding on this bed,and trying to sleep on top of pillows. I could not wait to get home as I was so tired. At check out, front desk staff said hotels are changing to harder beds as they last longer. I don't think I would book this hotel again as we just could not sleep on that bed again. read more

A UCLA owned and operated hotel accepting only guests with some type of affiliation with UCLA such as medical center patients, parents, or guest lecturers. I have stayed in all three UCLA affiliated properties as a visiting physician. Out of all three, Tiverton house, sunset, and UCLA guest house, I think that UCLA guest house is the nicest. I stayed in a deluxe room that had a nice kitchenette that included your own microwave and fridge. The location is on the north campus near the law school so it is quite a walk from Westwood village, about 20 minutes. The continental breakfast is quite good with eggs, pastries, coffee, fruit, and cold cuts. There is free wi-fi as well. There is also a free on campus shuttle if you don't want to walk. It is clean and well kept. The parking is limited to an outdoor parking lot as well as an indoor underground lot that is on a first come first serve basis. Overall a nice place to stay for a couple of nights. read more

for the price and the location, perfect accomodations. now, i'm not going to lie: the bed was absurdly firm and the shower had the world's worst water pressure--it took me forever to take my 15 minute shower. other than that, though, it was perfect: we had a window overlooking the front of the building, parking was available for us in the underground lot, the business center has free printing and is open 24/7, the breakfast is free, the people were totally nice, and it was exactly what we needed. the room was pleasant looking. i'm so pleased with the stay, and i would go back if i had another conference at ucla. read more

I stayed here a couple of days with my wife during a campus visit. I must say that we were very pleased with the accommodations and the staff. The women at the front desk, sorry but I don't recall her name (voice made me think she might be Jamaican) was extremely courteous and helpful. The free continental breakfast and cocktail hour in the evening were great and the location on campus is perfect. This is not a 5 star hotel, but it is comfortable, clean, and well maintained. Parking is limited and they do charge now ($12 per day I believe) when it used to be free in the past. I have no complaints and will gladly stay again during my next trip to UCLA. This is one of our best experiences! Hotel is great with a nice design and great location. Service was exceptional, people, who work there are super nice and friendly!! I have never seen such friendly people working in the hotel!!! Rooms were very clean, with nice furniture and all cleaning supplies were provided. Towels were white and clean and bathrooms were very clean too. Walls are well isolated so you don't hear your neighbors:) Breakfast was included and was really great! We had salmon and bagels with egg and cream cheese, a lot of pastri and plenty of fruit. Also cereal and even raisings were provided separately. Coffee and tea were available all the day and night. Tea was exceptionally great! Hot water always available, so you don't have to go and ask for more hot water. Nice fireplace in the lounge, internet.. live flowers inside and outside. Bed was comfortable too. Hair dryer was new with some fancy features, iron was working. We were staying there for 4 nights. (I am a very caprisious person and can find something inperfect very easily,, but here I was pleasuntly surprised: - everything was great!) So in conclusion I can say it is a great hotel! Important: this is a UCLA owned and operated hotel accepting only guests who have an affiliation with UCLA (admitted students, parents, academicians, medical center patients, etc). The university affiliation exempts guests from hotel taxes, and when combined with an already reasonable fee for the Westwood area, that makes this hotel a true bargain. As some of the reviewers have noted, some of the staff are students, but we have stayed here several times over the past few years, and everyone has always been helpful. The property is quite well-maintained and was refurnished and remodeled during 2012. Their free breakfast is more than just pastries and coffee/tea; the spread includes cheeses, fruits, cold meats/salmon, hot/cold cereals, and the Los Angeles Times. Two computers with printers are available in the lobby for guests. Limited free parking is available, with additional parking for a fee in a campus garage (bit of a walk and no in/out privileges). If you are visiting on UCLA business, just park your car and walk, as this hotel is ideally located for all campus activities. No dining facilities, but you are only a few short blocks from the heart of Westwood's restaurant area. read more
