The legality is that we need to advertising the business name within 30 days in a general circulation newspaper distributed in San Mateo County; the advertisement must be published once a week for four successive weeks. I thought I should take action immediately by calling for pricing. I spoke to Gail who was very helpful in giving me information. This is rare for someone who answers a main phone number line which is why I'm giving 5 stars. Here is the info: * It costs $40 for 4 weeks if I'm a single filer with a single business name; if there are more filers and more business names then it is $8 extra for each. * I should receive 3 forms in the mail from San Mateo county. 1 for the newspaper for filing the fictitious business name, 1 for the bank in starting an account and I believe 1 for my records. Once I receive the form for the newspaper, I send or fax it in to the newspaper, they will take the info from the form, create and publish a fictitious business name statement.

I LOVE this paper…read more I've always preferred it to its competitor, SM Daily News, because the Daily Journal has a much better format, style, and color photos! It's just designed well. One of my favorite aspects of the paper is the "Know it All" section on the first page inside--it's awesome trivia facts and I always learn cool stuff. It reminds me of the Chronicle's "Grab Bag" except the Daily Journal has a theme with the section. I look forward to it each time I read the paper! The DJ website is good, too. I've advertised in the classifieds with this paper, and not only did they suggest a better way to format my ad (it looked so much better with their suggestion) but I did get new business, thanks to them. The paper is a frequent supporter and contributer to local events and organizations, which is wonderful. They are a paper for the Peninsula, and they support their community. Gale in the office is awesome..she has the cutest Rhode Island accent.

I didn't have any packing tape at home and there was none out for customer usage that I could see. I already had my shipping label, so all I was missing was the tape. There was one person there, who i'm assuming was being assisted with photos, and two employees. I stood there, holding a heavy box for probably close to 10 minutes, and they never acknowledged me. Both employees looked at me and ignored me. Neither said anything about being right with me, or it would just be a minute or anything. They never said a word, just ignored me. And I stood there holding a heavy box the entire time. Then I noticed the sign about their "full service surcharge" which basically states that if one of their employees has to do something for you, you have to pay for it. Since I already had my shipping label, I was not about to pay for them to tape my box. So I scanned my label and dropped my box in their chute. Next thing I know, i'm about to get into my car, and one of the employees comes out and starts yelling at me because my box wasn't taped. His exact words were that it was all over the place. He told me that I had to wait for them. I responded that I did wait for 10 minutes, and they ignored me. He just kept yelling at me that next time I can't do that. So here's the thing. I am sorry that my box made a mess, but the thing is that I doubt that happened. The box was packed pretty tight, and it did not drop that far. So while a couple of books probably fell off the top, it wouldn't have gone all over the place. Basically, there should have been tape out for the self service they push so hard, like every other shipping store in the area. Otherwise, don't threaten to charge a fee for shipping a box and don't ignore your customers. I did not appreciate being yelled at and humiliated in public over their lack of customer service. Next time I sell books online, i'll go to the FedEx store in Millbrae.

This paper is pure temptation, you are forced to take advantage…read more I remember when I was 5 and I'd watch my grandpa read the newspaper, right leg cross the left thigh, leg shaking to an unknown rhythm and eyes locked as if he was watching an important scene in a movie. I never thought that I'd be reading a newspaper. April 2007, now I have become a miniature grandpa, all thanks to you Burlingame Daily! Went from 18 to 80! Haha I guess it's a good thing. B-Game daily gives the first scoop on all the lastest news... actually all the newspaper's do, but yeah... My first scoop. B-game daily news is where I got the first peep at "Naughty Newsom" and "Diaper Psycho Love Crazy Lady." If it wasn't for the B-game daily I wouldn't know that there are plans of making mechanical paper; or that the Governator broke his leg; or that they found the killer of my high school classmate Ray Bass. To be continued... What makes the Burlingame Daily stand out out more than other papers is. 1.It's free! 2.A great read for those who are young and hate reading. 3.You also have the entertainment section... Wanna know who Bradgelina adopted this week? 4.Has interesting development for the Burlingame area. (So all you B-game lovers and Live-ers... You might just find your face in there.) 5.Like making home-runs is for Barry Bonds, once you start reading the B-game Daily, reading will become your home-run (yes I know, great comparison GO BARRY!). And before you know it, you'll be hip like me, going from 18 to 80.

If you find a stack of BaySpo near the entrance of a Japanese restaurant, the chance that you'll get treated to authentic Japanese food increases. Not a 100% rule, but you could use it as one of the indicators. Many restaurants that target Japanese customers post ads on BaySpo (Chika, Oyaji, Hoshi, Katanaya, Delica rf-1, etc.) You could pickup BaySpo at any of the Japanese grocery stores like Nijiya (http://www.yelp.com/biz/3-QftDg5y7rqLfCVt_Ja-g) or at any of the sponsoring restaurants. If you could read it, you could learn about some useless news like how actress Miazaki Aoi got married. Oh wait. What?!? Nana (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0471834/) is married. The little girl in Eureka (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0243889/) is married. Oh no. * New issue comes out every Friday

This publication is now famous for showcasing the great Nobu K in issue # 905 that came out earlier this year, a full page spread and interview (where he also shamelessly plugs our favorite website here). Entirely in Japanese, sorry I can't read or translate ;-( While I agree there are many ads on good restaurants and businesses that advertise here, but there are also many mediocre and near sub standard places (in my opinion) that want to reach a certain target market because either they are new, or they are experiencing not so great sales. Many Chinese restaurants that have advertised on Bay Spo come to mind. The most disappointing new restaurant out of Bay Spo of the crop has to be Sushi Tatsumi in Cupertino. Bay Spo also features entertainment gossip from Japan. I didn't even know that Fujiwara Norika got married, a famous celebrity actress who enslaved many a man with his hand down his pants in the 90s, before the days of "My Sassy Girl". Turned out she married a comedian. I bet he's laughing all the way to the bank. http://www.asianmei.com/norika-fujiwara/ Or how about that top wrestler in Japan who feigned injury and secretly took a vacation to be back home in Mongolia, where the paparazzi took photos of him playing soccer with his kids, shaming him forever? But if you are a food gossiper, what better way than to check out the latest and greatest, from feature articles and interviews (mostly paid ads) on restaurant owners, potential star chefs, and even in the classifieds section where you can find out what restaurants are hiring. Sometimes the featured dish of the week (showcasing random restaurants) is interesting, other times the exact opposite.

The recall of council member/vice mayor Herb Perez is a blatant example. Editions with op eds against recall are available in stacks well beyond the published date, while the editions for recall are hard to find even the day of. While dirty politics could be in play (some nefarious person pulling papers from Safeway and Lucky's), I think not as the stacks of pro Perez editions are available well beyond the publication date suggests more were printed than normal. And, the "online" version is very poor quality. Low res PDF which is hard to read. A paper with bias towards advertisers is not worth the paper it is printed on. Also, Mark Watson, part owner of paper is the attorney for Perez. And, Watson is on the city's audit committee chosen over someone more qualified. Cronies flock together and really this city is not the better for it.

She hates her job and takes it out on potential customers. I called 4 different newspapers and she had the worst customer service out of anyone, and I'm trying to give her my money. At one point she said she could care less whether or not I went with this newspaper to post it and claimed she was the cheapest, which was not true. Honestly I have never talked to anyone who was so rude within a minute of talking to them. She pointed out how she doesn't get paid much so she leaves early, arrives late. This is the type of person she is, she hates her job so she could care less about helping you. Filing your Business Name with a newspaper is something everyone who wants a business license has to do but it seemed like filing with the Foster City Islander was a hassle for them. So i went with the Daily Journal in San Mateo, the person there treated me like a normal person treats other people and took care of me right away. If you have to file your name with a newspaper don't do it with Foster City. The woman working there is just a bad person, if that's the way she talks to potential customers I hate to see how she talks to people she actually hates.
