The customer service here leaves a lot to be desired. I went by to drop off a box of books that i sold online. I didn't have any packing tape at home and there was none out for customer usage that I could see. I already had my shipping label, so all I was missing was the tape. There was one person there, who i'm assuming was being assisted with photos, and two employees. I stood there, holding a heavy box for probably close to 10 minutes, and they never acknowledged me. Both employees looked at me and ignored me. Neither said anything about being right with me, or it would just be a minute or anything. They never said a word, just ignored me. And I stood there holding a heavy box the entire time. Then I noticed the sign about their "full service surcharge" which basically states that if one of their employees has to do something for you, you have to pay for it. Since I already had my shipping label, I was not about to pay for them to tape my box. So I scanned my label and dropped my box in their chute. Next thing I know, i'm about to get into my car, and one of the employees comes out and starts yelling at me because my box wasn't taped. His exact words were that it was all over the place. He told me that I had to wait for them. I responded that I did wait for 10 minutes, and they ignored me. He just kept yelling at me that next time I can't do that. So here's the thing. I am sorry that my box made a mess, but the thing is that I doubt that happened. The box was packed pretty tight, and it did not drop that far. So while a couple of books probably fell off the top, it wouldn't have gone all over the place. Basically, there should have been tape out for the self service they push so hard, like every other shipping store in the area. Otherwise, don't threaten to charge a fee for shipping a box and don't ignore your customers. I did not appreciate being yelled at and humiliated in public over their lack of customer service. Next time I sell books online, i'll go to the FedEx store in Millbrae. read more

This location will scam you in every way possible, and it comes from the manager. I requested a flat rate express saver envelope from her and she quoted me $45. After I explained what "flat rate" meant she rang it up at the correct $10.95, but had "trouble with the machine." She rang it up on another machine and I didn't notice she changed it to the $13.75 flats rate instead of express saver. Now I see that she actually charged me for both! (only one package mind you) Go to any other FedEx location, or even better one of their competitors if they allow this, to avoid being scammed in every way possible. read more

Poor customer service. I was there to ship a package and the line was almost out the door. I waited about 10 minutes. I see 2 employees at the registers just bombarded, but a lady who I believe was the manager not in uniform standing in the back doing nothing. I observe her 5 minutes until she disappeared in the back. Um, get to the front and help your team. Being the holidays, it'll get busier and worse at this location. DO NOT renew your passport through the RushMyPassport. It's a complete scam. They'll ask you to pay for the service online and give you a portal for you to fill out the official passport renewal application. When I went into FedEx to get my photo taken and give them the documents, the instruction also said to include a check for an additional $209 to the US state department. I was confused because I had already paid, so it doesn't make sense for me to pay for the same service, AGAIN. The staff at FedEx wasn't aware of this and didn't think it was a scam, and gave me a pamphlet and told me to contact the RushMyPassport customer service. If you're planning to renew your passport, please apply on the official state website and ship via USPS. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE in ALL of the Kinko's in San Mateo. The assistant manager, Maria Crimens treated us like disrespectfully. All the machine we wanted to use needed was toner and she refused to change it. She instead went on a rant that she will allow us to scan this time because the machine is only for architectural blue prints. Then she changed her position and refused to let us use the machine at all. Note the machine had no signage limiting the types of paper items that could be scanned. She went further to accuse us of breaking the machine if we scanned. Furthermore, we've gone into this exact location to do scans on the same machine. She was condescending, racist, was an ageist, and rude. She was arbitrary and capricious in her enforcement of the rules against us and it was personal. When asked for her manager's name she refused to give it and told us to call the store tomorrow! FedEx employees should never treat customers this way. read more

This Fedex location and the entire team is a lifesaver for my business! They always help me design, print and price all my last minute wedding planning related items. Most recently Ramon, caught an error I made while processing an order online. First he worked on the project the same day as I placed the order and expedited the printing. He felt like I had chosen the wring type of paper to print on - so he called me to confirm - and his hunch was correct. He fixed the mistake and re-printed the entire project on the correct paper type FOR FREE! I would have happily paid for the re-printing as it was a legitimate mistake on my part, but he insisted! The next day, I went back in to cut my project using their paper cutter (for almost 2 hours). I got tired and made a mistake! So, I had to go back and ask the team if they could find one specific page from my project and re-re-print it. They took the time to find it, and print it again. The wedding would have been a disaster without their help. They have a loyal customer in me for life! read more

Awful nonexistent "service". I visit this location few times weekly and every time same experience. Angry faces and angry attitude of all employees. Always line of disappointed long waiting customers. There's a self serve machine allowing you to scan your item without waiting in line except - never works. Asking to look at it - gets zero attention. Ever time I come in to simply scan my packages and as a result, waste 30-40 minutes in line and leave with just acquired terrible mood. I am sure it can be easily solved by simply replacing employ with hard working ones and definitely replacing "manager" with one that knows what the profession of manager stands for. Disaster of a situation that cost me $500. Brought a new iPhone to be delivered out of state. AT&T said this was safer than having them ship it as they have had theft issues. I purchased a special box at FedEx for the phone and the staff member offered to package the phone, and did so. When I followed up on why the phone was not delivered in the proper time line I was giving nothing more than "you should file a claim". FedEx made no attempt to contact me or the recipient (all that info. was on the receipt), about the package in anyway. WHY DID FEDEX NOT CONTACT ME? That package was taken without any trace on when or how. I filed a claim and was offered $500 for a $1000 purchase made 1 day before i shipped. The iPhone was packaged by a staff member who could identify it was in fact new. Absolutely horrible situation on FedEx. The entire situation is absurd and I will never use FedEx again. I have been to this FedEx location couple times now and the one thing that is consistent is that the service is slow (1 star off). Frequently, there is only one person staffing the office, and that person has no intention of working any faster even if there is a long line. One time, I did see a manager come in and quickly opened another register to serve a long line, but this should be the norm. Pets are allowed in this office (1 star off). As someone who is allergic to dogs and cats, I was shocked that the animals were allowed inside. They were on leashes, but pets -- aside from service animals -- really should remain outdoors for sanitation and allergy reasons. read more

I've been to this FedEx multiple times for both printing and shipping. Usually the employees are fairly helpful and courteous. Today, I experienced the most awful service... not only was there a line out the door, but I stood in line for 35 minutes waiting to retrieve one small package. While the guy was slow, the woman was purely rude and discriminated against me - for an unknown reason! She went and helped 4-5 others behind me, refusing to help me pick up 1 package. I believe her name was B, but I know for sure that works the Friday afternoon shift. I don't expect customer service at FedEx, but I also don't deserve to be discriminated against for no reason. I rarely write reviews, but I encourage everyone to use a different location if possible. FedEX, please train your employees to ensure efficiency. My husband and I were delighted today by the service we received at the Downtown San Mateo FedEx Office on 4th Avenue. We had two printing tasks to accomplish and had planned to spend time figuring out the copier requirements. Store Manager Hannah Clampitt came around the counter, asked if we had copier questions and showed us which buttons to press. Unlike us, she knew the equipment well, pushed all the right buttons so our trifold printed out correctly the first time. More than that, when I mentioned that it had started to rain, she asked if she could give us a water-proof envelop to protect our printed material. I could go on an on about the little extras she did for us. We both emerged from the store in record time, took a breath and exclaimed how amazingly happy we were at the experience. We are retirees and so we value stores and services that are "age-friendly." Interestingly, Hannah didn't know that we were printing copies of "Age-Friendly News for San Mateo's Seniors." After looking around for about 20 seconds and waiting for someone to notice me (see almost empty of customers) I walked over to a printer, started copying, tried to scan, gave up, and moved on with my life. We came here to scan some blueprints and the nice man behind the counter did exactly that. Fed Ex has this huge scanner that feeds the most incredibly large pieces of paper. It was seriously fun to watch! They gave me a choice of file type and the clerk went out of his way to make sure the files were exactly what we needed. The price seemed a bit steep at $4.00 per page, but they did a good job. TIP: There's an awesome pasta take-out store right next door so wander over after your finished with business. read more

Please educate your store employee that shipping internationally, only over value of $2500 needs an EEI form. I came in a few days ago with a letter size envelope containing a document of no value to be shipped overseas, the store lady staff just gave me a card and told me to file an EEI form and code. I was dumbfounded. She also refused to help me and just told me to call the 800 number or search the website on the card. I went to DHL nearby and they happily shipped it for me without hassle. read more

I came in really early in the morning. I came in to use copier. Nobody greets me. The floor's carpet had been removed inside and when you walk, specially if you have flip flops on, your shoes gets stuck like a fly in one on those sticky paper traps. Machine worked the way it was supposed to. For a first timer, it could be a bit confusing how to use but once you discover where to insert card you'll be fine.
