When we arrived at the apartment I was a little grossed out at the elevator and hallway, but it got worse when I walked into the apartment. Huge cobweb over one of the beds. The bat h room had stains on wall, dented bathtub surround, and possibly mold around the bath/shower. I immediately started looking for other accommodations. I went to front desk who showed me two separate rooms which I didn't find much better than the apartment. The clerk was not about to lose the reservation so we ended up getting two executive rooms which were adjoining rooms. It was better than its other options there, but still had issues. Water stains on ceiling, tiles on shower stall missing, hole in bathroom wall (I stuffed it with tissue). Best if all I had numerous guests which came into my room and died. Moths were coming in from the air vent (I think). The only reason for 2 stars is the staff seemed very nice. I would not go there again. They did give me the same price for the 2 rooms which was much appreciated.

This hotel is situated in the more affluent southern suburbs of Belfast not far from Queens…read moreUniversity with many of the campus buildings in its surrounds. The building is located near a small cluster of pubs, restaurants and fast food outlets. Check in was not the best... After driving for several hours to Belfast and arriving late-ish and hungry the gentleman manning the reception didn't greet us with a smile and chose to take an incoming phone call prior to giving us our keycard. Understandable that at that time the reception is only manned by one person but placing the caller on hold for a few moments to see us sorted wouldn't hurt. Being the first impression for the property its ultimately important (and hardly expensive) for the receptionist to smile for guests. I did however manage to get half a smile out the man the next morning. The common areas of the hotel appeared to be more recently updated than the rooms and corridors, however many furnishings were worn. The corridor could do with a lick of paint and renewed carpet as the existing fittings are well worn/marked. Room furnishings were a bit plain and not like those advertised on the website. Beds were comfortable. No air conditioning (in our room anyway) - not a problem in December but consider this if you are staying over summer. The bathroom was fine, with a good strong shower. The water saving tap on the sink was a bit ridiculous as you need to run the tap for about a minute for the water to get warm. Breakfast included the usual hot options of full Irish with cereal, yoghurt, fruits and breads. Tea and brewed coffee supplied to the table by friendly staff. Overall an OK stay, the property could do well to make some updates to furnishings, and perhaps some extra training for one of the reception staff. Parking is 5 quid overnight which is a bit much considering street parking is available all around - however we were given free parking validation on checkout which was a nice gesture. Free WiFi is also available and was accessible from the rooms as well as the common areas, with the occasional drop out. I've stayed in much better 4-star hotels elsewhere so the money I would probably try somewhere else next time to Belfast.

Having lived in Belfast for all my life, but never having actually been in to this hotel, I…read morerecently went for a work function, and really liked it. It's a lot bigger inside than you realise, with various function rooms and an expansive lounge and bar/restaurant area, serving those staying in the hotel, and business folks and travellers passing through. The reception staff were very helpful, and the function I attended was well sign-posted and easy to find - there was a constant supply of tea and coffee, pastries and muffins, as well as orange juice and water. The food we had was lovely too, piping hot and tasty, and we were given a full three courses for lunch - unusual for an event like that, I thought. All in all, the hotel is pleasant and inviting and seems well run and professional. I can't speak for the hotel rooms, but the main areas of the hotel were all clean and well-maintained. There is plenty of parking for patrons also.

There is a gated parking lot. The hotel is located to many different restaurants, and it's also a quick walk to the city center. The shower drain was very slow. Even after putting in a request, it wasn't fixed during the duration of our stay. I requested extra blankets & pillows. It took the staff much too long to deliver the items. I had to go down to the front desk to request the items again. The rooms were clean & the bed was considerable. Overall, the stay was pleasant. However, the staffing needs to be held more accountable.

It seems to us, that "you get what you pay for" pretty much perfectly fits this hotel. I would say…read moreit's perfect for business travelers or very short stay on a budget. Cheap and cheerful Pros: The room was clean and smelled of fresh laundry. The carpark construction has finished and there was enough space to park quickly and securely and HIE is one of the very few hotels in the city that has a private carpark. The shower was clean and worked well Friendly staff all the way, I asked for a spare duvet and it was delivered swiftly, even though it was late in the evening, same with towels etc... Some food is available 24/7 Cons: The double bed was a joke. There is no way for two adults to get a comfortable sleep on such a tiny bed, I had to use the pull-out sofa so at least one of us would get some sleep. We're no giants either. Definitely a big minus and a reason I will not be coming back, unless I'm on my own. The soap in the bathroom is fixed to the wall and very cumbersome to use, the same one in the shower has been empty on arrival and for the last two days, housekeeping staff have been in and out on both days... There is no wardrobe or drawers in the whole room, not even the bedside tables have drawers, all your stuff is therefore either out in the open or stays in the luggage. On the fence: The breakfast was ok, but the apple juice was diluted to a point it should be called a drink not juice. The eggs have absolutely zero taste... No vegetable (not even a fried tomato) just beans and mushrooms... I appreciate that it was included, but again, you get what you pay for and this one is nothing to write home about, but does the job. Verdict: if you can get a good rate, it's a good choice. It is what it is...a cheap hotel with modern facilities with everything "just enough". If you're just passing through the city on business or traveling on a budget and if the rate is low, good choice. If you're going for a weekend away with a loved one, pay a bit more and enjoy a bit of luxury, you're not going to find it here. And again... The bed sucks!

Please see a copy of our wedding review before it's posted should you a wish to dispute anything…read morewritten. I will post this review on Friday We got married in la mon 18th of may this year and this is our honest review. We siged upto our wedding just before christmas, so not to long to prepare. Our wedding co-ordinator was friendly and helpful on the day, offered us a free coffee ect. Importantly to us, we asked will there be any better deals in the new year and if there would be any discounts at the upcoming wedding fair. We where told there is no new packages and they do not offer any offers on the wedding fairs. This was false information givin to us, as there was a new package and a promotion for signing up on the day of the wedding fair. We did however change our package (this was before the wedding fair) And made to think to we where lucky because they did a midweek package (Monday-Wednesday) for us on a Thursday. They kept repeating this. However the discounted package included Thursday's anyway so this was irrelevant. They offered a package for £40. Ours was £61 Basing this on 60 guests is a difference of £1200. Only difference for us was that you don't get the limos included? So that was a big price difference, felt like the robbed us. Then on the day of the wedding fair they had freebies for booking on the day, a choice of 2 free rooms... Or menu upgrade to trio of deserts. As mentioned above, we where told they dont offer discounts at wedding fairs. This blatant lie ruined the build up to the wedding and sucked the fun out of it. It was also really annoying we needed to get the insurance liability certificates sent over to them... Alot of experienced vendors said they they have not had to do this for any other venue. Moving onto the day of the wedding. Credit where credit is due, went without a hitch (except food) All our vendors had no issues in the day and both co ordinator and master of ceremonies did everything as instructed. The big let down was the food. We paid an extra £3 for roast beef per head. (£180) just to have the choice alone. Then £3 for everyone who selected roast beef. THE ROAST BEEF WAS HORRIBLE. i remember looking along the tables to see no1 eating this... I wish i was being dramatic, but the quality was so poor. On par with supermarket beef. 1 scoop of mash.. Toddler size. And the veg was not cooked great either. I asked alot of guests about the beef also and all agreed it was rubbish and so tough. Anyone who had the chicken seemed to enjoy the meal though. Me and the wife who spent thousands for this dinner... Did not eat it. La mon should refund me all roast beef upgrades due to the lack of quality as most restaurants would do... However because of how they lied to me about the wedding fair promotions... I'm not going to hold my breath. (i will update this review should they hold their hands up) We also asked for kids cheese pizza and they served pepperoni pizza.. Kids didn't eat there pizza either. Also sent pizza to a child that had severe allergys la mon were told that he had allergys prior. On the day there was one thing that angered me. During the time we are asked to leave the room while they "flip the room" I took my drink upto the room to put our 2 year old to sleep. There was a lady standing by the door on some kind of massive power trip? She had 3 of my guests sitting in a hallway drinking there drink (one of which was disabled, then said to all of us about not allowing drink into the rooms or out of the rooms. (drink i bought at the bar) I get the reason why. But then i was threatened that the bar will be closed if any guests have drink upto or down from the room. What a great touch and amazing thing to say to someone who just spent thousands on food and room hires and filled 13 other bedrooms for you and im sure made the bars a few thousand. Thats one of the most unprofessional people i have come across im assuming that she may hold a managers position. Our bridal suite was lovely to be fair.. Comy bed We ordered room service.. And offcourse, it was a stone cold breakfast!! If you love a headache, bad food, power tripping managers. And cold breakfast And dont mind being lied to about offers...... Then la mon is the best venue around. Shout out to chris our master of ceremonies though, he was awsome on the day!

Wanting to make the most of our stay, we left our things off in the room and made our way straight to the bar for a liquid lunch! The drinks at the bar were reasonably priced and it was lovely to be able to sit there and relax. We didn't order anything from the menu when we were there as we'd had a large lunch before we arrived, however we did take a look at it, and there was loads on offer and it sounded lovely. I saw a lot of food going past for other tables, which looked and smelled fantastic. I also saw a number of people having afternoon tea which looked really posh, I will definitely try that next time! The room we were staying in wasn't like the rest of the hotel, which is super stylish and classy - I will admit that it was a bit dated, but it did the job, it had everything I would have expected and the beds were really comfortable. We did have an issue when we stayed, where we were woken up by noise during the night due to a malfunction with the heating system, however when we reported this, the management at La Mon really went above and beyond in their response and to resolve this with us - we were really impressed! Last but not least, we had breakfast before we left the following morning. Usually I'm not overly excited about hotel breakfasts. This however was nothing like I'd ever had before, the cooked breakfast, which was served as a buffet, was cooked to perfection, with free range eggs, and good quality meat. Oh, and proper baked beans! This is unheard of for hotel cooked breakfasts. It was so good, I had to go up for seconds to make sure I wasn't imagining it :) Very much looking forward to returning to La Mon soon.

Seriously though, I've stayed in a number of Ibis Hotels, and I'd rate this location as one of the best. Just off Queens Quarter, you couldn't ask for a better location: bars, shops, and convenience stores are all just around the corner. The hotel's neighborhood is very charming, and if you have the time I suggest taking a half day to explore its charm. As for the rooms, everything was very comfortable. The bed was great and the noise level was very quiet. The only thing that I wish they had in the room was a small mini-fridge. As for the staff, everyone was very kind and helpful. Amanda made sure that I found a laundry down the road and pointed out some of local sights. The maids were very good, and my room immaculate. So the next time I'm in Belfast, I plan to stay here.

With Dukes, and then further down the street the Holiday Inn, I don't really understand the need for this particular hotel. Dukes is almost world famous and is very fancy and posh for those people that wear suits all day. Holiday Inn is for those people that are travelling on a budget and wear nice shoes going out for dinner but wind up getting hammered on cheap beer and cheap wine. Hotel Ibis is for the middle ground. Not expensive enough to be posh but not cheap enough to be for the poor people. It is quite small compared to the Ibis in Castle Street, and my parents stayed a night here a few weeks back, and they said it is lightyears away from the Castle Street equivalent. With just 56 rooms, it is like a mini hotel, yet charges the same price as a huge hotel. When we went for a drink before an evening out on the razz, the bar was eerily quiet, and the lady working behind the reception looked dreadfully bored. Ibis is a well known chain of hotels but sadly this one is a bit of a blip. To me it seems as if they got a bit uppity and decided they can open a hotel anywhere they choose. Yes the positioning is very good, directly behind Queen's, but there are two other hotels at contrasting budget-ends which I think people are going to choose. A shame because the Castle Street one was very good.

The hotel was recently used as the host hotel for David Cameron's visit to Northern Ireland to solidify his rubbish electoral pact with a certain party over here.... This at least shows the levels of quality and professionalism shown here! The staff are great here, really attentive and willing to do the best for you to make your visit as good as possible. I know a lot of people who work here, as it is almost a Ballygowan rite of passage that you will work here at some point! Whilst they say the managers here are found of the whip rather than the carrot, this never shows through in the service received, which is excellent at all times. Vegetarians were also well catered for. As part of the wedding party, we got a reduced rate for staying overnight, so decided to take advantage. Our room was modern and spacious with lots of natural light, and had all the usual amenities such as TV, hairdryer, ensuite, and working table. There is also free wifi. Staff was so friendly and helpful, tended to all our room needs, our room "Botanic Suite" had a wonderful street view, no street noise, no noise at all from our neighbors- it was so quiet during our stay we slept well for the most part - my only complaint was the queen bed was actually just two twin beds put together which could be uncomfortable, the TV was placed in the dinning area but made it difficult to watch in bed and there weren't many channels available. The suite was so big, but it lacked a refrigerator, microwave, drawers for clothing, and oddly enough the shower was missing a door. The tub bath included made up for that however. From what I was told the hotel is still being renovated. This hotel offers a variety of services including wake up calls, tour services, breakfast, transportation set up and much more.
