Disappointed in quality of cut and general service, because this was very expensive (85$ before tip). The salon environment is lovely, and the hair stylist was very friendly. However, I don't think she knew how to cut thicker hair, and she extensively used texturizing scissors all over my hair--leading to a lot of frizz and uneven layers once I had washed my hair. (Shortest hair is two inches, longest closer to ten, so everything in the back is a bit messy). The service experience was especially strange for a salon. The receptionist seemed tired and was a bit curt with me before and after my appointment. My stylist was friendly but kept making comments about how thick and coarse my hair was, which left me feeling a bit awkward and bad for bothering to sit in her chair. I had booked an hour appointment but felt rushed at the 45min mark to be done, and she never offered to let me see the back of my head. When I left the salon, I discovered that I had tiny cut hairs all over my face. This isn't a place I would go back to for a haircut. For the price, the haircut and the overall experience were bad. I regret giving them 3 stars on their canned request for feedback, because I was still thinking I'd get used to it. Folks with finer hair textures would probably have a better experience here, but it's not worth it for me. read more

My first time here and I had a wonderful experience. Brianna cut my hair and she was so attentive and thorough. All the other hair stylists also seemed wonderful and very good at their work. Ithaca has slim pickings for Afro/black hair. A black employee at the local university suggested I check this place out. I stopped by a week before and spoke to Eugene (very nice receptionist) to see if Ivy Beauty Lounge could straighten my hair and how much it would cost. First red flag- we can do your hair but we don't have a set price. You have everything else listed but didn't think to write the price to service black hair texture? Ok....... He says, "usually its $30-40 but for you it may be a little bit more." Cool I figured it may be at most $80 whatever. I was in a crunch and needed my hair straighten! They did accomodate me based on my hectic first week of school schedule. Hence the 1 star... I got to the shop and was a bit nervous about Kierra working on my hair. Never had a non black woman do my hair so I was being open. Our hair needs different care and skillset. In her defense, she tried and she gets an A for effort. Kierra is done and I head to the Eugne/ receptionist and he says, "that'll be $140." Just straighten. No treatment, trim /cut etc. I was SHOOKED! How do we go from $30 for whites customers hair to $140 for me and say its because yours took longer? I was in and out within 2 hours. So I handed him my card and tipped her and walked out in disbelief. By the time I walked across the street and waited for the bus, I could feel my hair swelling up. The next day was professional headshots and lets just saying my hair didn't hold up. The ends were frazzled. Pretty upset that I was charged triple to do my hair (not included tip might I add). It doesn't justify a "little bit" more. I moved from Brooklyn to Ithaca for grad school and I could get a proper silk press and my hair is LAID for less than this and ACTUALLY holds up for $80! Trim included! Should've trusted my instincts and just drove back to NYC. If you're a black person and can do hair, there's a market here in Ithaca for you! read more

I'm shocked this place has no reviews! I went in today & Kyle cut my hair. Everyone who I spoke to was very friendly. The vibe inside is really nice & the decor is so pretty! Kyle was great to talk to-chatty without being overbearing. He did a great job on the cut & I booked him again before leaving. read more

This place has awesome reviews on other platforms but not here. So I'm a little bit surprised that they don't have reviews here. Anyways, I'm sooo picky and I had very crappy experiences with other salons. So I didn't cut my hair in 9 months. I started asking locals, so people recommended Morgan here and I legit had the best haircut with her. She did exactly what I wanted. I decided to come back here for my son's haircut and again was not disappointed. My son's haircut wasn't with Morgan, I'll update with the name of the stylist, coz she was extremely patient with my son lol. The staff is friendly and they offer water and coffee. Cute and clean space. So far I tried two stylists and loved their work. read more
