This was my first time at the ivy. Came here because I got gifted a voucher. The decor is very cool. Plenty of seating outside but we opted to sit indoors. The waitstaff were very friendly. 3/5 Bloody Mary - I didn't like the mix. I've had better at pubs, but the presentation was great 3/5 Eggs Benedict - the ham on this was shredded and I've never had it this way before. I prefer slices. Came to celebrate our 25th anniversary before watching a show at the Theater District. Rezzies were made a few weeks in advance. We were seated right away. We had a nice corner table. Our server was very pleasant. The place is nice, perfect for a nice dinner out. We ordered the cheese soufflé to start, I had the fish and chips and he had the truffle stuffed chicken breast. All were great and tasty. We also ordered a sticky toffee pudding for desert but we were also served with a cute "Happy Anniversary" plate with truffle bonbons. We had a very lovely time. My sister and I booked for a special lunch in the city. The hostess was friendly and took our bags and coats. We were seated in a lovely corner table, ambience was great. They do pack people in so be prepared to get to know your neighbor. it was a busy lunchtime (we had a reservation). Cocktails were great. Service was interesting. Lots of waiters, they did give us space and time to review the menu. Our server totally upsold us into sides by telling us our entrees were small portions. Stumbled across The Ivy while venturing the Theatre District and Covent Gardens in London. It was October and I was a bit chilly so I decided to grab food. I kept wondering if this Ivy was part of The Ivy back home (Los Angeles) and it certainly seemed like it was. Because I was dining solo, I sat at the bar and only ordered a small bit but it was the best Shepherd's pie I'd had in a long time; a braised lamb Shepherd's pie. It's always a pleasure to dine at the Ivy on West Street. There are a number of Ivy restaurants as part of the franchise now, but this one on west street is the original. It's a classic setting with a beautiful interior and a gorgeous bar that dominates the room. The stained glass windows create a lot of atmosphere. The menu centers around classic British cuisine. I started out with the steak tartar and followed it up with a beef Wellington (for two) and which is carved table side. Puddings are also classic ranging from baked Alaska to rumbabas. You must go here and sit at the bar and order one of the signature cocktails. This classic London spot near the theater district has a dark wood decor, cozy booths, and ambient lighting. The drinks were excellent although I would have preferred a full glass than one three-quarters filled for the price. As for dinner, you won't get the same wow factor. The rib eye steak I ordered medium arrived very well done, although with a delicious peppercorn sauce and a fine jus that carried the steak flavor. No steak knife offered, and with some effort, I could use the provided butter knife. Seated at the bar, our waiter/bartender was a bit distracted - understandably- which may explain why the steak didn't arrive hot and perhaps more cooked in the "standing." The traditional Shepard's pie also had a nice flavor with a rich gravy. After a few bites, though, there was nothing refreshing about the taste. The green beans needed salt (only offered at a table, not the bar), and the minced onions didn't add much value. The avocado prawn salad hd more of the former than the latter, and a tasteful amount of mayonnaise. Stop in for a drink and enjoy the atmosphere. I'll be back for that. read more

Night 1- Sitting at the bar. Drinks are incredible. The sticky toffee pudding is the best I have ever had. Sebastian the bartender was the best. Young hostess was grand and gave us recommendations in Paris. Night 2- Reservations late. The elder hostess was snooty because we asked for a larger table. Three persons in our group were well over 6'. French onion soup was really good. Then we waited for over 1-1/2 (complaining twice) before our food showed up. My risotto was barely warm and the truffles were woody and inedible. They did give us a round of drinks and removed my meal from the bill. I would recommend The Ivy in Belfast before dining here again. read more

I loved this place!! It was beautiful, classy, well designed and most importantly the food was great! It was all high quality and fresh. Our server was kind and super attentive! One thing to keep in mind about dining in Europe is that when you reserve your table, you have it for the entire evening. It's not like American where they are rushing you out so they can seat the next party! Dinner here is a classy experience, not the wham bam thank you ma'am nonsense that you get here in the states. Had a lovely late lunch here with my cousin. My first full day in the city. I was actually planning on having a meal on the other side of town, but by the time my cousin met me I had a hankering for some fried food so we walked to this vicinity. We were seated right away by a friendly hostess. They placed us inside, but got moved to the last table before the outside area as we wanted an outside table. It was a nice compromise. The food was amazing. We dream of this every now and then. The food was plenty. Each of us got our own stack, as opposed to some places where one stack is for two. We were positively stuffed. I came here with my sister. We had spent the day touring London and this was our final stop. Tip-#1 make a reservation as the place fills up quickly at night and the wait can Be lengthy The appetiser was the buffalo mozzarella salad. Just an amazing starter. My main was the Fish n Chips. A decent portion of fish. The chips were an excellent side. I did find the mushy peas - done more as a puree a tad bland and it really did not add to the meal. I prefer my peas with an English meat pie. Tip #2 the Fish & Chips do not come with ketchup. Malt vinegar, lemon half and tartar sauce. If you feel the need for anything more just ask. Dessert was the Chocolate Bombe. The presentation was very nice. A scoop of ice cream with a honey comb and spun toffee centre with a thin chocolate shell. Restaurant was very pretty. Everyone had somewhat of a uniform on. Bartenders wore green vests. We ate at the bar which I almost always do, but had a hard time getting the bartenders attention. He seemed to be distracted by another set of people. The food was good. I had a rib eye steak cooked perfectly with a side of a mushroom sauce and steamed spinach with butter. I believe there's a few locations around London. This one is close to some of the theaters in town. Nice space. Lots of tables, and bar seating that curves around in a circle in the center of the restaurant. Crab toast was terrific and very filling. I also had the steak and a glass of wine. This is truly one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. The hostesses at the welcome were very friendly, then it was all downhill from there. We go over and above as Americans when traveling abroad, well aware that not everyone loves us. Our server actually seemed to detest us. (She wasn't a Brit, who were all unfailingly kind on our trip). Despite our attempts to engage, she was having none of it. She was abrupt, dismissive and unprofessional. She basically grunted at us and threw our order on to the table. Simple requests for things like condiments were ignored and we finally gave up asking for anything. I do always try to keep in mind that every one of us has bad days, and you never know what someone might be going through. But even with that in mind, the behavior was over the top. I was disappointed compared to The Ivy's reputation, which appears to be overblown. Service was uneven, which means not that anyone was less than gracious, just that the resto seemed short-staffed. Food was good and tasty but not extraordinary. My mother's fish and chips was tasty but over-battered. My duck salad was pleasant but overdressed and too sweet for my taste. There are no walk-ins and no drinking at the bar apart from meals, which changes the atmosphere and maybe makes it less lively? Decor was very nice. The hostess was really friendly and made sure to show us where the purse hooks were and seat us at the bar quickly and without reservations. Our bartender/server was great...she was very honest with recommendations and made delicious cocktails. Nice, upscale date spot with good cocktails and nice food, but still a good representation of British pub culture. My wife and I came here for a date and weren't disappointed. The ambiance combined upscale fancy dining with British pub culture in a way that really worked and the people watching was fun too. There was a mix of locals out for fancy lunches and tourists that were fun to gawk at. We had a paper moon cocktail and an old fashioned and despite coming from DC which is a serious cocktail town, these stood out. If things had just stayed the course from there, it would have been a great date, but the food delivered too. The surprise hit of the meal was the twice-backed cheese and truffle soufflé, which was to die for. It was earthy and funky, but still light and easy to eat. We almost didn't get it and the whole meal would have been worse of if we hadn't. We also got the salmon and Thai prawn curry. The salmon was clearly cooked by a kitchen that knew how to prepare and cook fish (which isn't always the case) and so came out with a seared, slightly crispy outside and moist tender inside. The curry was a surprising twist on what food you might have expected and while not quite the standout of the other food, still really yummy. read more
