If you're in the UK on a Sunday, it's a must to do Sunday roast dinner! Hawksmoor was an excellent place for a roast dinner. It has a steakhouse vibe. It's two floors. The basement has a bar, lounge and restaurant. It was a little noisy. But we could still talk. The roasted scallops were cooked perfectly. The green sauce was tasty. I love the presentation. The Bill Marrow was also good. It was very rich. There were two kinds of Sunday roast a sirloin and a rump. Three of us had the rump roast dinner and three had the sirloin roast dinner. It was hard to tell the difference. All the dinners came with roasted potatoes greens and of course, Yorkshire pudding. It was all delicious. I have to say my favorite part is always the Yorkshire pudding. I also have a green salad, which is basically just lettuce with a light dressing. It was very fresh. We were too full for dessert. The service was excellent. We were seated right away and given water. In the UK, you can order sparkling, still or tap. Sparkling and still come with a charge. Tap is usually free. Our server was attentive without hovering. It's a good idea to make reservations at Hawksmoor especially for the Sunday roast. We got there at three by the time we left around 4:30 some of the roasts were already sold out. Just a note: Sunday roost is usually a late lunch not a dinner. This is simply a happening place with good food. The server was informative and guided our choices (which I love) Service was excellent and the ambiance is exciting. I'd wanted a proper English Prime Rib with Yorkshire pudding. But that is not what it was. It was a grilled rib-eye in cast iron perfectly prepared. All of the reviews online say this is the spot to go for Sunday Roast, but none of the reviews ever mentioned that you can only get your roast in 2 different styles: Rare, or Well done Ewwww. Neither really work for me. I ordered the well done and it was just straight barely eatable. The rare was like eating blood. I really don't like meats in either of these 2 styles so that was disappointing. I ordered a £14 Lychee Martini and it was basically the size of a shot. It tasted ok, but it was mostly memorable for how small it was. I also tried a £16 Fuller Old Fashioned. It was like drinking a shot of whiskey. There was nothing else in the drink. I wanted to experience a Sunday roast in London, but I did not realize its popularity. Luckily, Hawksmoor Seven Dials had a same-day reservation for two available, but it was for towards the end of their Sunday roast time. When we first got seated, we were first told that the Sunday roast was out, but to our delight, we were soon told that the kitchen was making more. The Sunday roast consists of dry-aged beef rump, beef-dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, roasted carrots, buttered greens, roasted garlic, and bone marrow gravy. However, the kitchen was out of roasted carrots, so they let us pick some sides as substitutes, and we picked the baked sweet potatoes and macaroni and cheese. The meal was so delicious. The meat was a perfect medium rare, and it was so soft. The roasted potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Yorkshire pudding was perfect for soaking up the gravy. The gravy was the best part - it was so rich and flavorful. Hawksmoor's Sunday roast was a really good experience. The food was perfect. The restaurant was once a brewery, so it has a rustic vibe to it. The staff service is top-notch. Make sure to plan ahead and book a reservation since it gets busy. read more

The trio of us went for two types of meat with Chateaubriand and rib eye and both were cooked to perfection! We topped up the standard fare with cheesy cauliflower and everyone had a full belly! My group of friends came here to do a Sunday Roast on our London trip. The planner in the group had looked up reviews and decided this was the place. I'm so glad she did! We had a terrific experience, with the food being amazing. We had six people, so reservation was made ahead of time. We were seated pretty much right away, had very patient servers explained the menu, sizes of the different cuts of meat we could get, etc. With six people, it can be hard to figure out what is best to do, but they were very patient and helped us figure it out. We went with a very large cut of châteaubriand and then one person wanted prime rib, so we also added a smaller piece of that. Château is one of my favorite cuts and it did not disappoint. I don't think the meat itself could have been more perfect and everyone really enjoyed it. I did not try the prime rib, but the feedback was good. We went medium rare on the château and that was the perfect temperature and what was recommended. We also did all of the traditional sides, including Yorkshire, pudding, carrots, spinach, etc. Two other unexpected highlights were the bread and gravy. Very good bread to start with great salted butter. And the gravy was exceptional. I'm not a very big gravy fan, but everyone agreed this gravy was stand out. I also had one of the best Shirley temples I've ever had. We were far too full for dessert, but I'm sure it would have been great. The experience was perfect and exceeded expectations. If I am ever back on a Sunday, I will absolutely come here for the Sunday Roast - and you should, too! read more

I Saturday October 4, 2025 my son and I visited Hawksmoor near Covent Garden. I was captivated by the lively atmosphere when we walked in. We were seated quickly and greeted by one of the managers, who took our drink order and offered some excellent recommendations. His suggestion of the Negroni was spot on! After looking through the menu, we decided to share the Chateaubriand. It was a great choice! At 550 grams (about 19 ounces), it was sharing entrée must! For sides, I went with the Hawksmoor Caesar salad, while my son chose the chips. Both were light and complemented the excellent cut of meat, which we enjoyed cooked medium rare. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert, but there were plenty of options on the menu. I really liked the layout of the restaurant, the attentive service, and the overall experience. Made reservations for 5:30 Sunday Roast. They have an incredible AI agent handling reservations. Clear and concise, really pretty amazing. I received a confirmation by text even before I hung up. When we walked in at 5:30 we were told by a hostess (who was definitely not AI) that Sunday Roast kitchen ends at 4:00. "Sorry nothing we can do, but good luck". We literally came for just dessert (and a drink!), and we had an excellent experience. Staff was wonderful, and the place is a total vibe. Dark, moody, and wildly classy. Exactly what you'd expect from somewhere like this. The tiramisu was an add on, as our waitress let us know that it was a new dessert that had quickly risen in ranks among the staff. Hawksmoor Seven Dials is a warm and beautiful restaurant with a coat check (this is important!) and a great atmosphere. I came a bit too late to experience their tasting menu-- but here is what I got: For appetizer, I opted to get ash-baked beetroots and some sourdough and butter. The ash-baked beetroots were so divine, they left such an impression on me, I was thinking about them throughout my entire London trip. For main, I got the roasted hake with a side of the english lettuce and herb salad. That day I wanted something light, fresh, but filling. The roasted hake with the salad was great for that, however, be warned (fellow Canadians/Americans), the vinegar peppers are... an acquired taste. Basically, they taste like pickles, but because they're peppers, their texture gets a bit slimy. Needless to say, I was NOT a fan. But honestly, everything I've had prior to it was so great, that I didn't even mind not finishing the vinegar peppers, haha. For drink, unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of it-- but it was a mocktail that was more herbacious and I believe it had elderflower in it. It was fantastic and I loved it paired with my food selections. The service was just incredible. I wish I had gotten the name of my server, but alas... Wonderful service and incredible food. We shared a Caesar salad, Chateaubriand (650g) with marrow gravy, beef dripping chips, and the sticky toffee pudding. Everything was over the top delicious. The Caesar was the absolute best I've ever had. (I make my own from scratch at home and now I'm jealous that I can't make mine as delicious as theirs). The chateau was cooked medium rare perfectly, had an excellent exterior sear, and paired perfectly with the umami bomb of a gravy. The chips were indeed as beefy and crispy as everyone says. We'd never had a dessert like this before and weren't sure what to expect. We're definitely hooked, it was phenomenal. The interior is cozy, not as fancy as you'd find in a similar menued/priced steakhouse in the US. But that's fine! You're not in the US and it's perfect for London. Part of a chain, but solid steakhouse in Covent Garden/Seven Dials area. Dining room is downstairs - dark, atmospheric. Restaurant sells the larger cuts of steak by the gram, depending upon what is available. Started with a Caesar salad and crab on toast to share. We shared a large chateaubriand and some chips. The meat was tender, seasoned, and the chips were crisp. Only problem? It was not enough food for our group so we ordered more steak and tried the "fries". This cut of meat was not as expensive (or as good). The fries were thin sliced, as opposed to the thicker chips (which we preferred). Service was uneven. I had this urge to try British steakhouse beef in London, but I actually went to the Hawksmoor NYC before I came here, so I had a bit of a headsup on what to expect. With half a dozen around the city I chose this because it happen to be nearest my hotel. I purposely tried not comparing it to American Steakhouses because while even the NYC location sources longhorn versus angus, there is centuries of beef tradition and sustainable farming been going on here that really makes the differences more pronounced. Usually I talk about decor and ambiance last since we can't eat those, but it's immediate here they are going for something different for your experience. Dark, cozy, like a cave, less like a cellar. Staff is excellent from their knowledge, attitude and banter. Somewhere between cordial and friendly. Uncommon for brits, sorry. It probably helped that I mentioned I'd been to their NY location already and that I kinda built my trip around places I'd tried in the states that originated here and I'd trying what I called my "roots tour". The concept is simple, raise great beef, serve it simply to showcase it and the skill it takes to amplify everything else. Stick Toffee pudding is thicker than most make it which leads to this great mouth feel. Unctuous without being umami. Where something rich helps cut something richer. The fillet carpacio was really good, the chestnuts were surprising in a god way. The freerange chicken reminded me of the older chickens we prefer in Asian cooking, a deeper, richer taste and I'd never had bernaise with chicken, it works well. They have way more sides than I was prepared for. I chose to go smaller on my steaks as I was coming back for the Sunday Roast. 6 different potatoes, 7 different greens. The chips are large and chunky and crispy. The mash is smooth without feeling overly buttered like the buttered new potatoes which I actually preferred, but that's my american pallette. The mac and cheese was the only disappointment, but the American South just does it better despite the great cheese europe has, it's not nuanced enough. Much bigger wine selection, much higher ranges. Similar corporate cocktails, but more global spirits brands. Steakhouse Martini was my favorite, the brightness came through. The fuller Fat OF wasn't as good because they didn't split the base and added tonka bean which gave it a cola taste. The ribeye again was great. the longhorn beef tastes old world not overly bred and hybridized. It's firm as a whole, but tender on the bite. The strip makes you feel more traditional with it's uniformity of shape. The deep roasted notes are evident and come through even more in the rump sunday roast. The rump was amazing, the spread was divine. The sides actually did feel like Thanksgiving and the ambiance felt like Holiday. I'm committed to try the rump for my holiday roasts over the way more expensive standing rib roast and while I doubt I'll be able to dry age one I can see why this primal works. Price is up there due to the conversion, but there are items that are far cheaper here and some that are far pricier. All in all it's a great steak, great experience and so far different from what we have in the states it's a wonder why the world is so obsessed with Wagyu and Brazilian steakhouses when the English and Italians do some super different and delicious things that turn the American Angus tongue on it's head. read more

We visited Hawksmoor without a reservation on a Monday night and they sat us right away. I've heard about their Sunday Roast and was sad to not have had the chance to try it, but was excited to try their steak regardless. Also, I did want to try something different than Flatiron Steak and I'm so glad I branched out! FOOD: We ordered the Porterhouse steak, Mash & Gravy, and Garlic Mushrooms. The Porterhouse is great because you get a side of strip loin and one side of tenderloin, leaving you with a more fatty side and a more meaty side. Our cut of steak was cooked medium rare and was well-seasoned without being overbearing. You also absolutely cannot go wrong with the Mash & Gravy as it's a classic side to pair with any cut of steak. As someone who isn't a huge fan of mushrooms, I really loved the flavoring of this side. It has a pesto filling, which made the mushrooms really tasty. Lastly, we did also order the Béarnaise sauce to go with our steak. I'm not generally someone who likes sauce in my steak, but the Béarnaise at Hawksmoor was so creamy, which complimented the steak so well. SERVICE: Absolutely incredible service. Our waiter was extremely nice and was helpful when we asked how much food we should order, especially since we weren't too hungry. Listen. Imagine a bear's cave but that bear has a degree in interior design and doesn't shit on the floor where it lives. Welcome to the Hawksmoor Covent Gdn, Pronouns: He/Him A classy mancave with Parquet floors, exposed brick walls, minimal lighting, pleated glass and lots of action. It's in places like the Hawksmoor you wish they hadn't banned smoking in public because a thick layer of smoke kissing the ceiling would round things off rather nicely thank you very much. It pleases me to imagine a diner with a big fat cigar in one hand, a beef rib in the other. Lost in the moment she takes a big toke on the rib before biting into her Montechristo 2. Damn you nanny state for seeing to that scenario. Still, this cellar and former brewery retains the requisite magic to believe it could happen. The Hawksmoor concept remains achingly simple and unwavering. You come here for big steak. Porterhouse, ribeye, Tomahawk, Chateaubriand. You order chips to go with it and you order a choice of robust sides to go with the chips and you sit there squeezing in cow flesh fearlessly wherever there's still room in the duodenum. It was a hit when it opened in Shoreditch in 2006. It's still a hit now. 18 years sourcing and cooking basically the same thing every day has made them experts in their field. They understand the chasm between medium and medium rare. They know how to carve up a tomahawk so that all you have to do is hover your fork and decide which piece next. The effort of dropping the fork onto the meat and lifting it to the mouth requires the energy you steak provides and therein lies the secret of your perpetual motion. They leave just enough meat on the bone to tempt those who understand life is too short not to grab it like a Rottweiler would if it only had hands. A Porterhouse to share and a ribeye for birthday boy. Chunky chips all round. Sauces of peppercorn and Bernaise. Spinach - creamed for those who need lubrication to get green stuff down - or a simpler lemony version. Mac and cheese for plugging any holes. But before this, just to prime the gut like a Tesla does to its battery before a supercharge, Scallops in garlic sauce and bone marrow on toast. All come in prime condition. Garlic, butter and parsley make a garden snail seem tasty so what's not to like about bathing well burnished scallops in the same brew? Nothing as it turns out. Marrow comes in the shin bone sliced vertically down the middle. Two half pipes. It all slips down very easily. I'm already sweating umami. Steaks come without pretension. The Porterhouse has been dissected, the ribeye untouched. Accompanying sauces stick without cloying. Mac and cheese is unnecessary and they knew this when they devised the menu. For this reason they make it great, just for those brave enough to take it on. Nice touches like the crispy crumb demonstrate the care. When it's this simple it should be flawless and they oblige. The lemon in my spinach wasn't an apology and all the better for it. That's the key to the whole thing. No apologies. Chips are crispy, fluffy and chunky. Is there anything more you could ask from a chipped potato? The combination of these things is eminently satisfying to the extent that eating becomes painful. The machismo and bravado the Hawksmoor dining room elicits in women and men alike turns the meal into a war of attrition. Human v food. Human wins, just. Puddings are taken simply because we want to prolong the evening. The familiarity of sticky toffee pudding and strawberry cheesecake doesn't detract from the enjoyment of each. Again, all present and correct. And it gives us the chance to people watch. Groups, families, couples, tourists, born and bred Londoners. They've all come out out and it creates an atmosphere as big as the Tommahawk. I remember going to the original Hawksmoor in Commercial Rd soon after it opened in 2006. I was taken aback by the quality and simplicity of the fare but less enthralled by the venue. The Hawksmoor group neatly saw to that when they opened the Covent Garden branch. It's big, it's simple, it's powerful. A great night out for tourist and Londoner alike and after 18 years it's still a thrill to descend into this cave, even if the ascent two hours later is something of a heave. read more

I absolutely loved this restaurant. The ambience, architecture, and lighting were all perfect. It felt like a bustling kitchen filled with lively energy, yet harmonious all the same. The food was brilliant, and the service was downright flawless. Everyone seemed to be communicating effectively, the staff were all highly attentive and focused, and it was incredibly impressive to watch them navigate this busy restaurant so seamlessly. I walked away very, very impressed. As for the food, we started with the Bitter Leaf Salad which was perfectly balanced between the incredibly fresh bitter lettuce, the bright vinaigrette, and the creamy Devon Blue Cheese. I kept going back for more and more, which was difficult, because beside it was an absolutely fantastic dish: the Ash-Baked Beetroots with pickled fennel and horseradish crème fraîche. I've already been exploring this combination on my own at home, but this was beyond delicious and perfectly portioned. Just an all around killer dish. My husband was feeling a bit under the weather, so he ordered the Smoked Mackerel Salad for dinner, complete with new potatoes, watercress, and horseradish. I tried a few bites, and you definitely got the taste of smoke, but everything paired so nicely together. Reminded me of my time living in Copenhagen: vibrant, tangy, fresh. I, on the other hand, was ravenous, so I ordered the Ribeye with the Anchovy hollandaise. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender. It did have a bit of a bitter char to it, that I've never been the biggest fan of; but the flavor was nevertheless solid and I'd likely order it again. I paired it with the Beef dripping chips, which, when mixed with the hollandaise, were sensational. That said, while I've never been a ketchup person, I was delightfully surprised by the sweet and tangy flavor of their house ketchup--but not convinced enough to abandon my hollandaise. I wish we would have ordered dessert, but I was absolutely stuffed by the end of dinner, so unfortunately we had to skip. Looking around the tables, the desserts looked fantastic--so it was definitely a difficult decision. But, I'd also like to talk more about our experience as two Louisianians in a very British environment. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We'd been dealing with jet lag, dehydration, and the type of shivering only two Southerns could experience having been plucked from subtropical temperatures and dropped into the damp cold of London. When I walked into the restaurant, I could barely feel my toes! I asked for a Hot Toddy, only to discover that this is NOT an international beverage; but the staff went out of their way to understand my request and return with an absolutely delicious beverage that warmed me right up. But throughout service, everyone was SO KIND. We've only been in London for a few days, but this experience certainly turned this trip around. This was a recommendation from a local that said this would be the best food in town, which set our expectations pretty high. There is a lot of food in the city, and for someone to proclaim it was the best held a lot of weight to us. Going in moderately hungry, we all decided on burgers, salads, and one with fries. The salad was pretty good in my opinion. The dressing was new to us, but flavorful and not overpowering and the lettuce was fresh. The burger though was pretty terrible unfortunately. The bun was really soggy, and the condiments on the burger were did not add at all. I am American though, so my burger expectations are pretty high, and I would not recommend this burger to anyone. Now, all of that being said, this is a steakhouse so if we were to try it again we would absolutely get the steak. The ambience was relaxing and the establishment felt clean. Our waitress was top tier and deserves to be recognized for her phenomenal service, attention to detail, and customer care efforts. She made sure she was aware of any allergies, gave advice on how to explore the city (and provided hand written note), and was very welcoming the entire visit. With the food not meeting our expectations, her service exceeded our expectations and made the experience far better and an easier pill to swallow when paying. I believe her name was Bo, and I would like to thank her for being a value add to this establishment-- kudos for being a highlight of our visit in London. My last lunch in London. I had to pick a good spot. I had seen a lot of stuff already. What was missing? I decided that a choice steakhouse was what was missing. So I looked at my data, and I saw this place, and the decision was easy. This place is classy, and I hear it's delicious. So I made my reservations, and came here to eat at halftime of my exploration of the British Museum. Classy classy. We were lead down into a wine cellar-esque dining room that had glass windows looking into the kitchen and big, giant pillars studding the room occasionally, really making you feel the weight in the air of the massive city above your head. Our super nice server came by, got our drink orders, and then we studied the food. We split an app, the Bone marrow & onions (sourdough toast). Probably the second best bone marrow dish I've ever had. A deep marrow flavor that is the epitome of unctuousness. Slathered with grilled onions to make the stuff infinitely more spreadable. And again, I've noticed that in this country, with the meals, they give you an appropriate amount of bread, unlike in the ol' US of A. So good. So the main meal, we split a Porterhouse. This was like a real steakhouse, you ordered your steaks by weight, and you were given the price per pound, er, or the price per kilogram here. So I had to do some math to see how hungry I was. I gotta say, this was the most beautiful porterhouse I have ever eaten. The filet side was So big, the sear on the meat was impeccable, she huge flakes of sea salt adorning the whole thing was beautiful, and it was cut off the bone all professional-like, revealing the perfect medium rare meat within. A lot of TLC went into this steak, and it showed. So tender and flavorful. Perfection. We got a side for our steak, and I believe it was a special, because I can't see it on their online menu right now. The brie mashed potatoes. These were the most decadent mashed potatoes I have ever had. Supremely smooth mash, with the creamy, melted brie perfused throughout. To drive the message home, they have the rind on top, sinking into the potato abyss, like a delicious iceberg. My God. If all this stuff hasn't sounded amazing enough, I finished the meal with the best part of the meal, the Sticky toffee pudding (clotted cream). I've heard of English puddings my whole life, without the chance to try any, of course. But now, my chance presented. The cakey pudding was entirely, 100% saturated with the toffee-flavored syrup. Very sweet and sugary. And the clotted cream on top added a nice, creamy fatness to it, providing that relief from the pure sugar. I'm going to stop now, because I could talk about this pudding literally all day. Overall, this was a banger. All my meals were bangers, but this place was particularly banging. It really stuck out in my meals memory. Amazing marrow, steak, mash, and pudding. Amazing. Come here. read more

PROS: Delicious expensive food, friendly waiter CONS: Super noisy. Bizarre Lighting/Annoying Hostess: We were seated for dinner at a high Bar table which had extremely bright LED lamps that were piercing to the eye. We placed a paper on the top to try and shield us from the light. The officious hostess then marched over and would not allow us to turn them down or cover them up citing an unspecified "fire hazard". (Someone needs to inform her about LED bulbs... They don't get hot or catch on fire!) We were then moved to a noisy spot at the bar where chatty servers retrieved drinks and bartenders shook and banged their shakers. Ugh. I was ready to leave without eating but our waiter, Allessandro, was very nice and encouraging. He got us a better, properly lit low table in the bar area and made a number of solid food recommendations. Would I go back? probably not. read more

I visited this spot after a long flight and it was nice to settle in for a comforting meal. I'd been to Hawksmoor on a few occasions previously and always enjoyed my experiences. After looking through the offerings, I decided to have the Hawksmoor Hamburger. The burger was good - nice flavor, well-cooked and seasoned fairly well. The cheese added a bit of richness, which I really liked. Something I really enjoyed were the beef dripping fries - they really had so much flavor. For dessert, I had the Sticky Toffee Sundae and that was a nice twist on the typical dessert: clotted cream ice cream, toffee cake and sticky toffee sauce. It was a great way to end the meal. Hawksmoor is a good standard spot to visit in London. There are many locations and each have their own unique vibe. They offer a Sunday Roast, which many people enjoy. I'd definitely go back for one of the steak options since I recall really enjoying those. read more

Excellent service and cocktails but the sirloin (ordered to medium rare) was very dry and chewy.

Maybe I went on an off night but this was not a particularly good experience. Decent first impression on entrance. Has an old steakhouse vibe combined with what I might expect from being in central London. Very lively and busy but that was appealing to us. Food was pretty mediocre. The appetizer was a bread, beef and onion and potted bacon thing? I forget the order of ingredients but it was just really really flat and fatty tastes all around - I've never wanted for butter more in my life in contrast to putting this stuff on the bread. However the big offender was the meat. Steakhouses have two key requirements: 1) serve high quality beef, 2) get the requested temperature right. They accomplished neither of these goals for my steak which was not flavorful at all and was well done on the sides rather than the requested medium rare (which only emerged in the center). I would have sent it back but at that point we were disappointed enough to want to just bail. Having just relocated from Seattle I would say that every single steak house of note from the Emerald City is superior to this. Someone should fly the staff to John Howie in Bellevue and have them do a deep dive for a week in what great steak tastes like. read more

In London on holiday and tried this lovely restaurant. The mood is wonderful and somewhat cavern like. Our waiter, Marius was incredibly kind and helped us discover the menu. We shared a 900 g porterhouse steak, cooked to perfection with Mac n cheese ( must have ) in a cast iron cauldron all bubbly and toasty on top. Also delicious mashed potatoes and gravy butter than your mom can make. Also a classic but delicious Caesar salad. Cocktails were excellent as well. I would strongly suggest you make a stop here for a hearty, delicious meal. Ask for my boy, Marius as well. Service was impeccable. I'll be back. read more

My husband and I were visiting London for our anniversary, and decided to stop into Hawksmoor for Sunday roast. It did not disappoint!! Price was fair for a huge plate of roast with some sides. Also- Hawksmoor has THE best sticky toffee of all the places we've tried, hands down! read more

Hands down the best customer service anywhere in London - much less Europe. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and helpful. He understood our situation and literally made the best out of it. Literally. I will make sure to visit Hawksmoor the next time I'm in London!! read more
