I have to say that at least every restaurant we ate in the first question from servers are there any allergies? Every restaurant was super accommodating with an unusual allergy. Beautiful restaurant and warm services by the staff. Honestly I want to give 5-star for the experience however, the sea bass was really a disappointment. It wasn't bad, just that i expected higher standard from the IVY. Generous portion for the sea bass (which i love), however, the skin was not quite as crispy as I would prefer (it looked like the chef tried but the sauce made it soggy). The mushroom sauce with spinach's and beans(?) was not a balanced match for the dish somehow. Our party ordered 3 sea-bass and the consensus was similar. The dish wasn't executed as good as the description. The fish and chip was tasty with the pea mash. The burger from the Kids' menu was bigger than McDonald's Big Mac and delicious. Amazing experience. We were a group of 9 people, and everywhere we went they told us they were fully booked. We were already a bit discouraged, but on our way back to the hotel we found this place right on the corner and it turned out to be a great decision. From the moment we arrived, the young ladies who welcomed us at the entrance and our server throughout the night were truly professional attentive, well-organized, and genuinely warm. We ordered several main courses, all of them beautifully prepared. The beef tartare, served with bread, was outstanding and can be perfectly paired with the truffled cream for an excellent combination(took the truffled from the Milanese . This is an up scale restaurant in New Town that is not touristy, has good food and drink. The service was a little slow.

I was so incredibly disappointed with our lunch/ early dinner on Sunday 28th June. The food was mediocre.. some dishes quite tasteless. I asked for a dish without chilli which the waitress said was possible to do. It was so hot I couldn't eat it. I chose shepherds pie which quite frankly I can make a tastier version myself . The others good was either too hot and dried up. The wine which was half price had to be corrected on the bill( they tried to get away with full price!) Nice surroundings and very good service but crazy prices for rubbish food ! Won't be going back there again! read more

The food here is absolutely amazing - every meal we had was packed with flavor and beautifully prepared. We loved it so much that we came three times in just five days while visiting Edinburgh: breakfast, brunch, and dinner. The service was excellent overall, with attentive and friendly staff, though during dinner the server we had felt a bit less engaged compared to the other visits. She did not put in the right order and just didn't seem to care much. That said, the overall experience was still fantastic. There's no denying that The Ivy is a beautiful fine dining restaurant, it's iconic, the atmosphere, the food, the drinks are all top notch but on this occasion the service was not up to standard and to be honest left a bitter taste in my mouth. I visited with my sister using a gift voucher she gave me for my 40th birthday and our waiter:an obnoxious man seemed set on getting us to spend money, suggesting buying the most expensive bottle of wine and when we declined he came back with cheeky remarks, sarcasm and blatant rudeness, he made myself and my sister nervous and feel like we had no right to be there if using a voucher. After this experience I'd be in no rush to visit again. Disappointed! read more

This is a really lovely restaurant. The decor is absolutely perfect. From the second you arrive ,everything is on point. The hostesses were wearing the cutest floral yellow jackets as their uniform. They were very polite. We were seated at a nice table upstairs for our afternoon tea. A reservation is definitely needed. We ordered the champagne afternoon tea. It came with a really nice selection of savory and sweet. The little sub with mushroom and chicken was perfect. The sweets were all delicious. It was served with dry ice which was fun. This is a beautiful upscale restaurant in Edinburgh. If you are planning to go for dinner you should definitely make reservations. We were seated immediately upon our arrival . The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, with a bar and plenty of seating. Our server was friendly ,attentive and provided us with outstanding service. We ordered a nice bottle of Pino Grigio , fish and chips , Shepard's Pie , a side salad and Apple Tart Flambé. Everything was so delicious . The fish and chips were light , flaky and flavorful. The Shepard' Pie was presented in a unique way .The meat was molded into a round shape and decorated with the mash , the gravy was then poured around the outside. It looked so pretty and was exceptionally delicious! The salad was average but good, fresh and crisp . And let's not forget dessert , the Apple Tart Flambé with a dollop of vanilla ice cream was so delicious too , perfect and not too sweet . The only negative comment I have is that it was very dark in the restaurant and I was actually having a difficult time reading the menu. We sat in a beautiful dining room upstairs. We had a nice waiter who took our order, got drinks and appetizers, then he disappeared. A new waiter came over and asked how everything was. I showed him our hidden burnt chicken, conveniently placed burnt side down. He said 'sorry' and walked away. No mention of making us a new one or a complimentary drink or even a manager to stop by. Stopped by the Ivy after a show today loved every bite! My husband had the ribeye and I had a side of thick cut truffle fries (or chips like they call them). This review is a bit mixed (if possible I'd give 3.5 stars) the food was flavorful but the service was lacking. They were busy and yet came across as quite fussy. Our server was friendly, but inattentive. However, they certainly take food allergies seriously. I was asked several times about possible food allergies, if you have them they will take great care it seems. Dining here was in every way a wonderful experience, one I recommend if you find yourself in the area. No reservations, no idea where to go, no clue what might lie ahead. Hungry, though. The Ivy sits on a corner and practically begs you to come in and stay a while. So we did. The interior is lush and bright in a city full of dark stone and shadows. The staff are warm, sincere. They'll make room for you if they can, but do make a reservation for a window table on the second floor. We sat at the bar, and our experience was not diminished by it. We had the pumpkin soup, the fish, and the roasted butternut squash with savory cous cous. Every bite was perfect. Fresh, healthy, beautifully plated. Everything on the menu appealed, and the drinks headed to tables for the mid week brunch were gorgeous. So many staff, all eager to bring whatever you need. This is what service should be. First off, my confession: I am obsessed with The Ivy. At this point I am a borderline creepy Ivy stalker. I have been to The Ivy in three countries and I must say that this location is the cleanest and possibly the best run of the three. Now the food is good but you really must visit for the cocktails and the ambiance. They all have great vibes, fabulous decor and great people watching. I had the prawn and monkfish curry today and it was flavorful. I also enjoyed my orange g&t - and proper coffee service, which is sadly hard to find in the UK. Most of the mocktails in Edinburgh taste like straight juice, but the ones here at the Ivy didn't. My husband and I were visiting Scotland with two friends and we read The IV was a great place to go for breakfast. We arrived a few minutes before 11 and unfortunately they do not serve breakfast/brunch after 11. We decided to stay for lunch and we were definitely not disappointed. The Ivy is a bit fancier than other places you may find in Edinburgh. But no worries... you can still wear your casual Tourist apparel As most people are walking around the city and come in for a meal. The service was excellent as the wait staff was super friendly. Being an American, friendly waitstaff means a lot. The food was also very delicious. I got the shepherds pie which was mixed with beef and lamb. I don't love lamb but this was super tasty and flavorful. It came with a side of aus jus that I literally could have just drank. For being a heavier dish this was not that filling. I was fine to walk around without feeling completely stuffed. My friend got the salmon and asparagus with the champagne sauce and she said it was also really delicious. If ever in Edinburgh again I would definitely want to go back for breakfast as I saw some peoples plates while walking by and it looked heavenly. read more
