I got pretty blitzed before a mom's weekend event and took my mom here, she loved it and got me out of the doghouse for not being able to stand straight. This also happens to be the place every college dude takes a girl right before he asks her out. 10/10 place. Would recommend the vodka pasta.

Chicken parm is not made w thigh meat anywhere! Seems like it was a way to use a 1.50 piece of chicken and .50 of grits and charge 38.00. Last night may 30 i ordered the chicken milanese w breast meat as you can see from my attachment from menu. Nope once again took a cut of the chicken and dark meat again and I hate dark meat. Cut it in half and showed waitress who went and talked to the kitchen. They said that when they butcher the chicken they sometimes get thigh meat w the breast???? What? Unbelievable that a manager didn't come to discuss but 35.00 bucks for thigh and arugula salad is robbery. She was kind enough to take off bill but still feel 715 is trying to pull one over again which might explain all the empty seats as well. Have shared this story w a few folks who have said it has gone downhill in the last several months. The prices you charge are over the top. Plenty of other places in town to eat like q39 where you can get a 3 meat platter w 2 sides and order of wings for the same price as 715's chicken thigh and arugula salad! Ok after this i am done. Here in mexico and ordered the chicken parm at the marriott and guess what cut of chicken they used? Breast just like 99% of the world except 715. They should be embarassed

This includes of course the history of Lawrence and how influential this building has been over time. Since I've been in Lawrence (which is about 10 years now which is so nuts) this has been Merchants. I love Merchants. It's consistently (to me) a top 3 restaurant on Mass St. The food is high quality. The service is high quality. The chefs table is a vibe (idk if they still have it but they did a few years ago). Anyway, the duck and dumplings was so comforting. It was the perfect ratio of duck to dumpling to vegetable to broth. The bison burger always slaps and the fries are so yummy. Dare I say they have the best burger in town? Also you guys have the BEST Diet Coke. So good and crispy. I love you Merchants! Also sitting next to the window and looking out to the twinkle lights on mass was so dreamy.

The restaurant itself is beautiful inside -- a cozy mix of rustic and modern that creates a really inviting atmosphere. Service started a little slow, though our waitress became more attentive once she came by. We mentioned it was our first visit, so I was a bit surprised there wasn't much guidance on the menu or any recommendations. At one point I asked about the two kinds of fries (I love fries!), and the explanation was simply that they were "fancy fries," without much detail on flavors or differences. We started with drinks and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. The sprouts were actually very good, with a nice balance in the sauce, and both the wine and sangria were refreshing. Unfortunately, dinner is where things went downhill. Our meals -- a steak and a gluten-free chicken sandwich -- took about 45 minutes to arrive, which felt long for relatively simple dishes. I had asked about the gluten-free bun since they can sometimes be dry, but didn't receive much insight beyond "it's gluten free," and sadly it was indeed very dry. The chicken itself lacked flavor, though the goat cheese cilantro sauce helped make it somewhat enjoyable. The fries looked homemade and delicious but arrived cold. The steak was cooked as requested, but it didn't have much flavor beyond the mushrooms on top. The broccoli side was tasty, and the potatoes were good, though it on a bed of Some kind of cheese sauce that wasn't quite to our liking. Overall, the space and gluten-free availability were promising, and the appetizers and drinks were enjoyable, but the food execution and service details didn't quite meet expectations for us this visit.

Grace and The Mad Greek: A masterclass in Philoxenia... "the ancient Greek art of making a stranger…read morefeel like a God at the table". In a world of mediocre service and soggy pita, Grace at The Mad Greek stands as a titan among mortals. I didn't just eat dinner; I underwent a culinary baptism. The legend began the second I crossed the threshold. The hostess didn't just greet our group; she provided a welcome so warm I personally felt like a long-lost Spartan war hero returning to my village. Her smile was the lighthouse guiding us through the fog of hunger, setting a tone that whispered, "You are home now," and also, "you are about to eat a lot of feta." It was the kind of personalized touch that transforms a simple "table for three" into a banquet for the gods. (My apologies for not asking your name... but that's a lack of management's oversight, as there should be a sculpture-bust of your likeness, decorated with string lights, highlighting your name on a plaque so it's emblazoned on ever guests' mind, your name on the very tips of their lips...) Then, there is Grace. If hospitality were an Olympic sport, Grace would be draped in gold, standing atop the podium while the national anthem of Flavortown plays on a loop. She didn't just "take my order", she curated my destiny. Her timing was so precise, I'm convinced she can see five seconds into the future. My water glass never dropped below the halfway mark, it was as if she were performing some sort of Greek hydro-kinesis. Grace is the GOAT. Period. Then came the Greek Combo. Calling this a 'dinner' is like calling the Odyssey a 'quick blog post.' It was a sprawling, epic masterpiece on a plate. The gyro meat was sliced with the precision of a master sculptor, and the souvlaki was seasoned by the gods themselves. As for the spanakopita, it possessed a structural complexity that would make the architects of the Parthenon weep, with more golden, buttery layers than the shifting labyrinth of Knossos. Every bite was a journey through the Mediterranean that didn't require a passport, just a very large napkin and a moment of silence. If you haven't been served by Grace at The Mad Greek, have you even truly lived? Five stars isn't enough. There's a 'Michelin' Standard being overlooked on Mass street... in the modern "culinary constellation," stars are the ultimate symbol of excellence. By adding a "sixth star" to capture the intergalactic in Grace's service, I'm coming close to being able to describe the celestial level this culinary experience became that even the night sky struggles to contain. Grace: our dinner party will never be able to 'eat Greek' the same again. You've officially ascended to the Acropolis of hospitality as our eternal Goddess of the Sixth Star. And as they used to say in the old country: , ! (...it's all just Greek to me!)

This trip so far has been the extreme opposite. We came to the hotel at 12:30 hoping to be able to check in a little early. We stood at the front desk for almost five minutes before a woman came out and said, "do you need something"? She asked our name and said, "we have nothing available right now". We had hoped to change clothes and freshen up before a meeting with University of Kansas officials and a subsequent dinner with them. There is no school going on at KU as commencement was the previous week. There were only six cars in the hotel garage. We have never been treated so rudely by a hotel's front desk personnel. I also asked when the room might be available and was told 4:00. She made no effort to look anything up or accommodate us in any way. Very disappointing.

The room I stayed in had plaster and paint peeling off of the wall in the bathroom. It also just felt very sparse--no carpet, no rug. The bed was only half made. Other reviewers have mentioned odd noises at night, which I also experienced. The service at the restaurant is absolutely terrible. I waited about 50 minutes after ordering breakfast. My order included a cup of coffee. After about 25 minutes, the lone server came over and explained that she had many things to do before she'd get to the coffee order and could I just get some coffee from the lobby instead? What?? You're serving breakfast and you can't just pour me a cup of coffee?? I would never, ever go back to this hotel. It's truly terrible.
