One of the best deals (and some of the best food) in Brussels…read more I try to travel on a budget and a google search of "cheap eats in Brussels" yielded several rave reviews of Mr. Falafel on English-speaking locals/ex-pats websites. I can report that it absolutely lived up to my expectations for quick, cheap, but delicious food only a short walk from the popular tourist sights in the Lower City (about 10 minutes from the Grand Place). For 4.5 euros, you get a toasted wheat pita stuffed with four delicious vegetarian falafel balls, freshly cooked (fried) right after you order. But the best part of this place is the salad bar that accompanies the falaffel. You're given a plastic container and turned loose on the small but well-stocked salad bar that includes the standard lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes, but there are also various pickled and oiled selections of veggies and sauces (including a delicious hummus). You can fill up your little plastic container as many times as you want. One word of warning; the plastic fork you are given is cheap (mine broke about 3 minutes after I started using it), and you'll only be given one plastic container for fixins--I had hoped for a separate one for sauce but no dice. You might want to also consider bringing your own bottle of water--drinks in any European cafe will set you back almost as much as the meal.

Salads and Sandwiches can be had for 3-5 euro. 1 euro Chocolate croissants .90 euro croissants 1.90 euro yogarts 1.90 euro café Americano 1.60 macchiato 1.50 euro mini - salads 1 euro fresh orange juice 2-4 euro for a variety of tasty desserts. Everyone is very friendly, it didn't matter which location we visited. They charge a bit more if you sit down, but we just got everything "take away" and ate it in the adjoining park, or me delivering "breakfast in bed" to my sleepy wife back in the hotel.
