Alright.... so I have had doughnuts across Canada and always try to stop at a local doughnut shop…read morein every city I go to and this far, to date (Sept 2019), Darkside Doughnuts is probably one of my favorites. Some friends and I were in Saskatoon for a powerlifting competition and I mean if you know anything about strength sports, you know that we love sweets and cheat meals so a perfect reason to stop. We got half a dozen of assorted doughnuts - mine was the dark fudge - and they were delicious. They weren't huge like some fancy doughnuts and they weren't super dense and dry like others. I loved that the doughnut was chewy but not cakey (I thought of the texture like a chewy tasty dinner roll) and that the icing/glaze wasn't too sweet but still wonderfully sticky and thick. My friends got the carrot cake fritter and the strawberry cream. Both said great things about their choices. My only regret is that I didn't buy more and I don't know when I'll be able to go back and have more. If you're in Saskatoon, go check it out. If you're there and driving back to Edmonton, pick up half a dozen and bring them back to me.

A delicious but pricey doughnut shop…read more Atmosphere: 4/5 - Modern & sleek but not a lot of seating available. Price: $$$/5 - Average for premium doughnuts but still expensive (ie// higher than you'll pay at Tims). Customer Service: 4/5 - Server was polite. Service was very quick. Location: 3/5 - Close to Victoria Park, the river & transit. Kind of out of the way for most people though. Taste: 5/5 - Amazing, best doughnuts in Saskatoon. Great texture. Large size. Menu: 4/5 - Menu is a little smaller than I would prefer but they have excellent & unique flavours that are constantly changing each month. Vegan friendly. Sustainability: 2/5 - Darkside appears to care about the community but doesn't have any sustainable initiatives other than using local flour. Strengths - Delicious Weaknesses - Lacking in sustainable initiatives, expensive. Good items to buy: Coffee + Doughnut (I got saskatoon berry available in August 2019). Summary: 3.7/5 - Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping by Darkside Donuts if you are looking for a treat. They have some of the best doughnuts in Saskatoon. Their menu is small but changes each month encouraging you to return again and again. One thing I wish is that Darkside would make some sustainable initiatives as well as tout the fact that they are using local flour more as that is something I know many people care about. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope it helps you!!

Mr C ordered the Shanghai Noodles which has both chicken and shrimp (and it's not the small dinky…read moresized ones!) and it was absolutely scrumptious! Highly recommend adding some chili oil to level it up For myself, I ordered the Lemongrass Chicken which comes with an egg , side of carrots and lettuce and 2 spring rolls Once my food arrived, I immediately noticed the green onion and onion smell (not a fan) but I also noticed the delectable aroma of the lemongrass chicken So, I did what I usually do and scraped off the bits of green onion from the rice and proceeded to eat my meal! Rice, chicken and egg were The rice was cooked just the way I liked and lemongrass chicken were so flavourful! The egg was surprising as I expected over-hard but it was more over-medium so it a even better I tried to overcome the onion scent/flavour from the spring rolls but after eating two (delicious) pieces, I decided I really can't anymore so Mr C got lucky and ate the rest for me (along with the lettuce/carrots hehe).

I ordered the spring roll and laksa. I enjoyed the laksa. It had great flavor and tons of shrimps…read moreand scallops. The laksa broth was delicious. Only complaint was the heat level. My server told me the locals (ahem...Canadians) can't handle the spice. I didn't enjoy the spring roll as much as I should be. It's was served slightly warm and with the peanut dipping sauce. The sauce was different. I don't know what they use but I swore it tasted like there's hoisin.
