She would go outside using the code and then not be able to get back in and they said it was a safety issue. Why not just make the code a little more difficult so she can't get out by herself? We'd heard that many desirable communities have long waitlists and were advised to start looking one to two years in advance. But where do you begin? We were fortunate to discover Bridge to Better Living, a senior transition consulting service serving the Lincoln and Omaha areas. Bridge to Better Living doesn't charge clients; instead, they're compensated by the senior retirement community if a placement occurs. Importantly, they don't "sell" you on any location--they listen. Bridge to Better Living took the time to understand our social, physical, medical, and financial needs, then recommended senior living communities that aligned with our goals. We chose which ones to visit, and our consultant arranged tours at times that worked for us--accompanying us every step of the way. We toured four communities and narrowed it down to two. When we struggled to decide, our consultant suggested we share a meal with a couple living at each location to get more of a sense of daily life. She arranged those visits , too--again, with no pressure, just support. Thanks to Bridge to Better Living, we made a confident, informed decision and couldn't be happier. If you or a loved one are considering moving to a senior living facility, meeting with Bridge to Better Living is a must. The Sloan house is managed not to provide the best care but minimal care. As I would say "She puts a pretty cover on the book but once you open the pages and look it is a horror story!"

The staff at Elk Ridge is -- mostly -- very nice, particularly their on-staff nurse; however, just…read moreremember, they're still a business and their business is to make a profit. (I always felt like the truly helpful staff members were doing their best to make up for the staff members who were consistently less than helpful, notably the maintenance staff, the surly receptionist, and the operations director.) If you're in an apartment that's been renovated, you may enjoy living here. However if you're in an apartment that has NOT been renovated, go somewhere else. The prices are the same for the renovated apartments -- prices that predictably increase every year -- and the incompetent staff won't permanently fix anything that's broken in the non-renovated apartments, for example, a perpetually leaky faucet; a stained ceramic sink; a perpetually broken disposal; a refrigerator that produced no ice; and cheap vertical blinds that also often broke. These were all very basic things that greatly would have improved my parents' quality of life, but Elk Ridge refused to replace these items which, in the grand scheme of things, are relatively inexpensive. In the winter, they also inexplicably do not put down salt on the sidewalks -- it's Nebraska in winter...Putting down salt should be a daily SOP. While walking, I slipped and fell straight down on my shins and kneecaps -- several witnesses, thankfully, and thankfully I only sustained severe bruising that lasted ~three weeks. Elk Ridge is lucky I didn't break anything; I would have sued, no question. One of the residents told me she moved in, in circa 2019, and has watched the quality and level service decrease steadily, which is unfortunate. I got the sense she was strongly considering moving. Overall, I would not recommend. Live there at your own peril.
