3/19/21 A lot has changed since I lived in Rockville…read moreMaryland. I have seen new buildings get made in spots that were once parking spaces.  I will admit,  there were a lot of parking spaces. Barns&Nobles was the main attraction for this shopping area with Starbucks being an added bonus. People then traveled to other spots of this shopping center. Chick Fill-A was the newest building to be added before I moved to Virginia.  I never saw the grand opening, but I did try the chicken the next time I was in town. Last weekend I was back in Rockville area and saw the Barns&Nobles sign wasn't present.  I saw the Starbucks Coffee sign and started wondering if Barns&Nobles went out of business.  I did not notice that the business had moved to Congressional Plaza.  Why the move? Could be a number of reasons.   I remember when Montrose Crossing went by another name, but just like the name Berenstein Bears, it no longer exists.  I also don't remember the name it use to be called. My mom loved shopping at Marshlls for clothes and whatever else she could find. As a kid, I found shopping for clothing very boring.   Yes, most male kids and some females too found shopping for clothes boring.  Now I am left with memories from a time I would go shopping with my mom.  As the song goes, "you don't what you got till it's gone."  Yes, those were good times, even if I did not see it that way at the time.  Without the Barns&Nobles to headline the main attraction,  I think the decline for this shopping area will show up bigtime during the summertime of 2021. Still, this is a great place to do some quick shopping or a quick bite (maybe date night, too, perhaps).

This combo shopping strip center/dedicated retail building is an oddly dated contradiction in a…read morenumber of ways. There are three components, none of which are physically or logically cohesive: (a) the shopping strip portion which is spread out and disjointed, (b) the retail/office building which is outdated and houses an eclectic group of businesses that - again - don't correlate to each other, and (3) a brand new outlier short strip housing a small handful of mostly upscale trendy eating establishments. Oh, and there's a ridiculously overpriced gas station tucked away in the back far corner (behind the retail/office building). The good news: despite its awkward configuration, it's super convenient to the surrounding neighborhoods and has some strong "staying power" stores like Giant, Starbucks, and a large CVS. Local businesses also have a great presence, like Toy Castle and a memorabilia shop in the r/o building, Baskin-Robbins, California Tortilla and a bagel shop. Great option if you want to avoid the chaos of Westfields mall or Rockville. They're also remodeling the shopping strip. Would be better if they swapped out and got some different businesses with more draw than the vacuum store and Pet-Valu (which doesn't have much of a selection other than for dogs and selection/price-wise is not really competitive with PetSmart or Amazon). They also need to upgrade the retail/office building.

Cabin John Mall used to be a tremendous asset to our community, but has gone down hill fast…read more The decline began when the new owners allowed Christmas tree sales in the parking lot when customers needed the parking spaces to do our holiday shopping. The owners exacerbated the parking problems tremendously by putting in too many stores. CAVA opened a store and then opened up another one in Montgomery Mall two miles away. The property owners got rid of Broadway Pizza which was a Potomac Institution. I am furious. The new condos in the back take up even more parking. Carl Friedman who developed Cabin John would not support this.

To take care of your health, Concentra Urgent Care, Rite Aid, PetCo for your emotional support critter, Neil's Dry Cleaning, and an optician. For the opposite, a liquor store, Domino's, and Americas Best Wings. Not too shabby for an unincorporated burb!

11/21/22 This area has changed and changed with stores…read morecoming and stores closing.  One such place I never thought would close  was the Pizza Hut at this location.    There was the Bollywood store which at one point did not know what that was. In short they are Musicals in nearly all Indian movies.    I noticed the parking area has been upgraded so it is easier to get in and out.  I don't co.e to this area offten, but I noticed one sign still has an old business that is no longer there.   Yet the business is offering a bait and switch deals on their massage...  watch your ass if you do go to Blue Moon Spa or as the sign says Annie's Massage.

It says the place is managed by "Realco Millennium LLC." We looked up the place and they're in Virginia. We called the number and the guy said "It's not our problem. Call your insurance."
