The sweet potato fries real let down as i am always excited to see them on a menu but this time they where just undercooked, the parmos where average and even though two parmos where ordered only one small garlic sauce provided (although im sure if we asked they would of gave us another) but we didnt finish the full meal to need a second. Over all id say the food is over priced for what we had comparing to local restaurants serving the same dish for £3-4 cheaper.

This little beauty is run by the same people who own one in York. It's still an independent venue though and is a welcome change from some of the other places in the town. What really impresses me is the range of drinks. Whatever your tipple you can get it here. It's also quite a young clientele. Think I'm probably getting too old to be looking for young crowds but I'm clinging onto my youth a while longer yet. I like to have a beer in one hand and my guitar hand free just in case. Though you can get cocktails if you want. They also do wines and spirits. On Saturday nights it is all about the music. They'll serve you up some live bands and music. You know it makes sense! Forager's soup, twice-baked blue Wensleydale and Lovage soufflé with pickled cherries were standouts. The warm salad of Thorganby peas, asparagus, broad beans and sheep's curd enjoyed by our daughter was excellent. My "celebration of Yorkshire Beef - fillet, oxtail, corned, cheek and Choux Farci was great. My wife reports that her sea trout was excellent as was my daughter's poached turbot. Main couses were scampi, beef casserole and dumplings and a burger of some sort. They get a 6/10. The food is good and reasonably priced but maybe not exceptional but then its only pub food. The place itself is recently refurbished and my only problem with it is its too large and too open by which I mean its like eating in a waiting room. Also there was no heating on and two of us were cold. The staff could be friendlier. The waitresses tended to plonk the food in front of you and basically not speak to you at all. The person on the till could be a little more welcoming. Generally a good meal but staff need some more training perhaps. Its maybe because they are young and unused to speaking to strangers! So nothing much wrong with the food but room for improvement. Why not give it a try.
