My BF's bro + SIL got us this pottery class as a combined birthday gift and it was such a good idea! This crafty type of experience is definitely up my alley even if it's not so for my BF, lol. It was easy enough to schedule and they were very accommodating with the time slots. Upon getting there though, it wasn't as organized or streamlined as I was expecting. The space is very small, cramped and low ceilinged. We went on a Sunday and it was packed with people. I had to ask about the class and wait an extra 6ish min for an instructor even though we arrived at the exact time of our registered class. I did enjoy the class but felt it was more of a demo, then you're on your own instead of step-by-step. Our instructor would jump in if you really needed help. For example, another worker just ended up finishing his bowl but he gave a brave start. It was fun and relaxing choosing paints and then painting but just wish there was more inspo provided or guidance. We were just left to our own devices but wish there could've been templates, example pictures or even stencils to help out less artistically inclined (I'm not speaking of myself, of course, but for kids or anyone who who could use some extra help). Checking out turned out to be an ordeal, and they should majorly redo this process to make it faster and more streamlined. My BF and I waited for more than 15min behind only one other person trying to pay. We also had our voucher gift printed out so not sure why it took the worker about 15min to enter it into the tablet and make it so awkward and complicated. The class came up to about $80 for the 2 of us so it's no chump change and is more expensive than some of the chains like Clayground, etc. They have a tip jar and ask for tips which feels in bad taste since there was virtually no service or even guidance besides the class portion. I can't imagine paying $40 for a clay piece here, painting and designing it myself, grabbing my own supplies, returning supplies, washing brushes, then paying a tip on top of that. One more annoying thing is that the worker told me to check their instagram page to see our pieces get pictured and I diligently reviewed every single post for the entire month and our pieces were never shown... The location is also pretty inconvenient from me. I would recommend a chain/franchised place with cleaner, less clutter, more space and better facilities. read more

Such a cute and fun spot! We took a beginner's wheel class for $40 and had a great experience. The instruction was clear, hands-on, and super beginner-friendly. They moved the process along pretty quickly, and we got to choose our own colors and painting techniques, which made the whole experience feel really personalized. My girl is in the area for just the summer for an internship and found this place to resume her pottery hobby. The owners and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. She paid for a monthly membership which allows the use of the wheel, kiln, tools and 50 lbs of clay. She drops by after work and weekends, creating cute things and learning new techniques. We went here for my friends' bachelorette party and although she had a great time, (as an artist and art teacher myself), I have some critiques. A group of 6 of us came in and did a wheel-building class and although it was fun, the instructor basically built the pots for everyone. He demonstrated the technique, and then as we made them, he came around and changed everyone's to be a certain way. I found that really weird. We all did some glazing, and I picked out a plate to buy and glaze myself. The interactions with the staff were just really kinda stiff and not especially friendly. Really wish the owner would see what goes on when he/she is not there. I came in with my granddaughters. No instructions. No setting up a table for us. Never came to give insight or help with my 7 or 9 yr old!! More worried about chatting and gossiping with a gal working the wheel. Then they had a friend come to the back door and that was important to them. Talked, laughed, and joked among themselves. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Today, the guy expected me to carry all these finished products out of the store unwrapped!!!! Are you kidding me? You're not going to package them properly??!! I was in shock!! After looking over our projects, WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION, sanded off the bottom paint and inscriptions we put on each piece to be embedded into each item for keepsakes, ie. This place is so much fun! My husband surprised me with a pottery class, and it was a perfect date activity. As we are both beginners, we both made bowls. The girls who work here are super friendly and patient, and they walk you through the process of throwing. After we moulded our bowls, they dried them quickly and let us go to town painting them. They will be ready for pick-up in 2 weeks. Besides making your own pottery, you can also paint pre-made pieces as well, and they have a huge variety of items you can paint ranging from plates to vases to decor! I enjoyed my time at The Kiln! It's located on the street perpendicular to the fancy Burntwood. There's a private large parking lot right outside so you can walk right on in. Some of the big positives for me are: -Great, easy to understand, clean and informative website -Knowledgeable and kind staff -Fun way to spend a rainy day -Awesome handmade memory!! Negative: -Little pricey for an activity for a family of 4 (not necessarily a negative of The Kiln, just of the activity itself!) For my birthday, my family and I scheduled a "Beginner's Throwing Class" for all of us for $35 a person. The other activities offered here range from just picking and painting your choice of any of their premade ceramics (super cool Marvel characters, animals, plates, soap dishes, etc!!), or something called glass fusion where you can picked out colored glass pieces and melt them into a suncatcher or dish. I think they also have open studio times but check their website for specifics. For our beginners throwing class, there are 4 pottery wheels in the studio. It was super easy to call and schedule a time to come in. I was called the day before by the staff with info on what to wear, to tie my hair back, etc. We were given aprons and a block of clay and taught how to throw a bowl on the wheel! Fox, the staff member helping us was knowledgeable taught us how to throw, and helped us make the best bowls we could! Throwing didn't take long at all, maybe 30-40 minutes from when we sat down at the wheel. Then, after making our bowls, we painted them. The pieces are ready and fired after 2 weeks. I haven't picked my pieces up yet, but they update their Facebook with the photos of what came out of the kiln. All in all, I had a blast with my family and would recommend this activity on a rainy day if you have a couple hours and the money. They also take school field trips! read more

My daughter bought a pottery class for myself and a good friend as a Christmas present . We were both very excited to experience making our own pottery. Only we really can't say that we were able to do this as the young lady who was to teach the class did way more than teach . She basically changed our shapes and never really let us do our own thing . Instead of guiding us she would just take over and shape or make our pieces her way. Not to mention they rush you through making the pottery as they have other classes scheduled to come in very shortly after you even get started making your piece. Most of the glazing containers are either empty or dried up . The other young lady helping out really was polite but quite and unsure of herself if you asked her a question she really couldn't give a clear answer without having to ask the other young lady that seemed to be in charge . read more

Waited to review this place until after we picked up our pottery. Came here more than a month ago on a Sunday with a group of three. We picked premade pottery pieces to paint but they also offer pottery throwing classes with a reservation. We chose one small dragon, one medium sized sugar pot and one large train piece to paint. It ended up being close to $70. It was an enjoyable activity for all age groups involved. Unfortunately waiting for our pieces to be fired was not. We were told it would take about 2 weeks for them to be ready and that was fine. We were told to write our names on the bottom of our pottery and to like their FB page because they would post pictures periodically of the finished pieces. I checked everyday waiting for pics to be posted. Now these pictures were far away and blurry when zoomed in with pieces behind and stacked on top of each other. I saw pieces that could possible be ours though I wasn't sure but I never saw my sons train so I waited until I thought well they have to be done by now. They were ready and we picked them up without a fuss but this method of communication between company and customer just isn't professional especially for such an expensive product. I would not recommend coming here if you plan on giving your piece as a gift unless you do it WELL in advance of the date. read more

We took a pottery wheel class and we can't wait to take another soon. Our instructor was very helpful and friendly. A class is 35 and includes everything with no hidden charges or fees. If you want to use the wheel without a class you can, they simply charge by the pound of clay. Outside of their classes they had a large amount of predone pottery to paint. There was a much more diverse array of glazes compared to similar other places we have been to. The variety included a good amount of speciality glazes as well. read more

This is a nice little spot. Me and my girls went for a birthday party. They have six wheels and plenty of tables that will allow your entire group to work on projects at the same time. You can throw your own vase or bowl on the wheel, fuse glass to make decorative plates or earnings, and you can paint some already made ceramics. Great place to do a number of things! I went there to make a mug so I took the hour long wheel throwing class which, unless anyone else is scheduled, is a private one on one. Caleb was the employee that worked with me and he was super helpful and very friendly. In the hour I got a mug with a handle done, and stamped some letters into it. They then torch it so you can glaze it same day and then just make one trip back to pickup. You can spend as long as you want painting it and it's all included in the $35 price. There are a few other things you can do there as well such as glass fusing and painting on a canvas. Everything is fully customizable to what you want to do, so makes for great gifts. It's a great studio space for parties or just for yourself. I definitely will be back to at least paint a piece that they have there with by niece and hopefully to try the glass fusing. I don't know where else does that around here so pretty cool! Side note : if you have a party here, You can all do the same thing such as make a painting or you can all choose separate things (I.e. I made 2 pieces on a Sunday. I was told one would be ready on Friday. When I went to pick it up, it wasn't ready and I had to make another trip back to pick it up a few days later. I was then told that my other piece, which was supposed to be a birthday gift, wasn't going to be ready for another month. If you need pieces done in a certain amount of time, this is not the place to go. Additionally, one of my items was a picture frame. I've been here a number of times with different people. I brought the kids who I nanny once and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We made a present for their mom's birthday. Most people get a little bit frustrated with having three loud, messy preschoolers in their shop full of breakable items--everyone was amazing. I've brought highschoolers here for one on one counseling. It's a great environment. Reasonable prices. I would love to do a wheel throwing class. read more

This company doesn't answer phones and they can't be trusted with valuable nostalgic items. I placed in their care a set of ceramic molds for them to cast three years ago and kept getting the brush off as to why they were'nt ready. These molds besides sentimental value are worth over 500.00 and they not seem to want to work with me to resolve the issue. Now all I get are excuses as to why these molds important to me can't be returned or the money be given so i can attempt to replace them. It took me two years to find them.
