I have to update my review. After receiving the bill I saw that they changed for coffee and we had a charge because we used a credit card. I couldn't find it on the door or any place before entering that said using a credit card card would have a surcharge Just beware

The King Eddy Breakfast (With Breakfast Sausage)

We had come here for breakfast on a Monday morning at around 9:00 am. There weren't too many customers dining at that time therefore, we were able to get a large booth in the back of the restaurant which was comfortable for our party of five. The restaurant itself was very well-decorated, with many pieces of memorabilia from the past, along with being adorned with funky colours and chic furniture. We were greeted by a kind server, whom brought us menus, and provided us ample time to decide on what we had wanted. I chose the Queen Benny however, I opted out of the hollandaise sauce. The others in our party had a variety of egg dishes, with breakfast sausages, fries, and chilli. My son had decided on the chicken fingers with fries, while my daughter wanted the pancakes. We were surprised at how large the food items were. The breakfast sausages that came with my mom's meal were huge, along with the pancakes, and home fries. The Queen Benny had delicious pieces of smoked salmon underneath the egg however, the yolk made the bread taste wet, and the home fries were cooked with onion, which I didn't know about until receiving the order. I also would have liked for the home fries to be crunchier, as well as smaller, as they were much too large to take in one bite. We could tell that the food was well-prepared, and homemade. We appreciated the effort that was put into making our dishes look presentable. We also had excellent service throughout our stay, with the server replacing an item that we hadn't wanted, and doing so quite pleasantly might I add. Overall, a nice place for some home cooked delicacies in the midst of Byward Market.

Was looking for a quick food option and stumbled across The King Eddy. Had never seen it pop up in my travels to Ottawa but it is now a new favorite. It has that family diner feel, where everyone knows everyone and all are welcome. The staff is very attentive and super friendly. Has great lighting, coffee, and just space. My favorite thing is even though it was busy, the sound levels were really good, and not too loud. Now the food. When I travel to Canada, Poutine is a must for me. This is hands down the best poutine I've ever had with the chicken and bacon added. The chicken alone is a star for any dish. Would give this place more stars if I could!

We came here for brunch. I called ahead since we had some luggage with us and they sat us immediately at the bar and put our stuff against a wall. This is on a Sunday morning for brunch at about 11 am or so with a line of about 5 parties ahead of us The wait staff is fun and personable. They are helpful making recommendations and always got us what we needed as we went thru the meal. I tried the eddy breakfast and my mom got the omlette. All really well prepared and very delicious. We did find the potatoes a little dry but no biggie. They have a large number of tables both outside and in so they do take a good number of walk Ins. It reminded me a little of a 70s malt milkshake space :) I loved the mint chairs and pink accents.

Legit the best standard breakfast in the byward market area. Reasonably priced , large patio with coverings for each table and super large portions. We had the chicken and waffles and the veggie chilli which comes with eggs, guacamole and garlic rye bread. The flavour of the chilli was spicy and delicious. Very rich. I liked the fact that it wasn't that fake veggie meat often used in veggies chilli but instead more roasted veggies that seems roasted and perfectly spiced. Chicken was perfectly fried. My husband couldn't finish the chicken and waffles but loved each bite. Milkshake was good ( cookies n cream) but admittedly not as great as Zaks across the street ( try the pina colada!) however I can say that the breakfast items here are heads and tales above zaks. Highly recommend for a very filling breakfast / brunch !

HANDS DOWN the best breakfast sandwich I've had since my move from GTA! While browsing through UberEats the night before to schedule a breakfast order on a Saturday morning, I landed into King Eddy's menu. MORNING GLORY: I noticed the little caption mentioning it was voted by the Ottawa Magazine, I decided to give it a try. I totally agree with the critiques, it was AMAZING! Except I wish my egg didn't quite explode and leak everywhere, but I guess that's part of the "overeasy egg" selection. Already looking forward to schedule another order for Monday morning. I definitely want to give their lunch a try as well. Highly recommend!

Jeeze I can't even move after their Thanksgiving Eggs Benedict special. Great place. Clean and the staff is friendly and the owners' are all hands on. Definitely a diner vibe but very spacious space. They have a breakfast all day menu too!

vanilla milkshake split into two glasses

Very happy that we stumbled into this spot for breakfast, lots of choices to satisfy different cravings. Most of us went for the classic 2 eggs breakfast and a couple ordered the loco moco. It's definitely an eclectic type of menu. The food came nice, hot and large! Really decent portions for the price and we were all well stuffed. Also ordered the vanilla milkshake which wasn't very special. Though, I did appreciate them splitting it into two glasses. It came to the table looking a bit sad, no whipped cream or cherry on top and for $7, I would skip it. The service was excellent and staff aplenty.

I think this place needs to work on hiring more experienced waiters if they expect to serve as many people as they do. We witnessed quite a few accidents and wrong orders all around. It's not the worst thing but it doesn't make for a memorable brunch experience. It's a great restaurant, lots of seating, cool atmosphere and great menu. But the wait time to get things, the cleanliness of the tables and overall restaurant are lacking. Adam and I both got the burger and we waited so long we ordered an entree but we ended up getting the entree after the burgers so that was useless. The burgers were basic and I don't see why I would eat another because it didn't taste any different than other burgers. The milkshake was pretty good though. The chocolate taste was good and the consistency was great to slurp through a straw.

    The Margareddy
    Kate M.

Throughly enjoyed my time at King Eddy! Stopped in for a weekend lunch! It was busy but they were quickly able to sit my husband and I in a shaded booth on their patio! Service was friendly and attentive! I ordered the Margareddy margarita and the patty melt! The margarita was a bit tart for my liking - could have used a bit of sweetness but still good nonetheless. The patty melt was delicious! Juicy, cheesy, toasted perfectly and extremely satisfying! The restaurant has a fun retro vibe too it! I would recommend this spot.

It's always been a special morning when we got Broadway for breakfast. They're a similar restaurant to Zak's Diner; with great food and their signature Homefries (that could sometimes use a bit more seasoning). You can get their Homefries anytime, even after breakfast, but their quality isn't as good as fresh in the morning. On top of just the food, the have amazing service. The staff is always happy for a quick chat or there for a good recommendation. In terms of speed, it depends on when you come, but provided you know what you want, it can be as little as 5 minutes (the time it'd take to drive to the store). Now to the Ambiance. The place is inspired by NYC's Broadway (specifically their Musicals) so the restaurant's walls are decorated accordingly. Overall, this is one of my favourite restaurants in all of Ottawa, and probably my favourite one for eating breakfast. My only qualm is asking that the Homefries receive more seasoning, but that is something so minor that it shouldn't result in the loss of a star from my review, and similarly it only really happens when I order takeout. Edit: I forgot to mention that from what I've seen, the owners are great people. Some of their staff have worked for over 10 years (some over 20), and they still have good things to say of their bosses (the staff, I mean), which is not something you tend to see. Also, this place is locally owned and operated.

I went pretty early both times and I was the first or second table there. I ordered the Trio Sante (a combination of yogurt, fresh fruit, and house-made granola) on my first visit and the ARC French Toast on my second. Both were excellent - I even dreamt about the french toast for awhile after =P There was just something about the contrast between the soft, rich, custard-like interior and the crunchy, oat-encrusted exterior in combination with a delicate spice, warm maple syrup, and tangy citrus butter... yum. To drink, I tried the drip coffee and a latte - both were average. The decor is modern and clean lines, with some elements from nature. It's bright and sunlight streams in from the windows. Basically, a great setting for a relaxing breakfast. Keeping in mind that both times I was one of only a few people there, service was appropriately attentive - i.e., there when it was necessary and not over bearing. Prices were on the high side, but probably on par with what would be expected in a hotel restaurant. I would come here again if I were staying at the hotel but, truth be told, there are other breakfast/brunch places in Ottawa that are higher on my list of places to go.
