Our first visit here really missed the mark. We've been looking forward to eating here for some time so we invited the new neighbours for dinner before a show, but we definitely won't be back. We arrived before the supper rush and while it was busy, the place was not full by any means with multiple empty tables. We sat up in 'The Boat' which is right next to the bar which is an awkward step up but we weren't offered one of the empty tables so we figured it out even though it wasn't conducive to having a conversation with two other people. The server who gave us menus was friendly but failed to bother to bring any water the entire time we sat there (nearly an hour). The first round of drinks showed up fairly promptly and she took our food order right after that. We opted not to get appetizers because we didn't want to eat too much before our show, but had we known how long we'd have to wait, we would have gotten something. We couldn't even order something to share between the four of us because 'The Boat' is two separate tables. We chatted as we waited for our drinks that we finished and waited some more for someone to bring food. After the last drinks were empty for at least 10 minutes, our server came back to ask if we wanted another round. Seeing as we didn't have food yet (we'd already been waiting 30 minutes), I opted out while the three others ordered one. At this point, I wasn't willing to spend more money for poor service and a long wait. We watched as a large group that clearly arrived long before us, finally got their food after 35 minutes of us having put in our order. A couple across from us showed up at least 20 minutes after us, got drinks, food and the bill before we were even offered a second drink or told about where our food was. During the time, we watched as other patrons came in, were served their food and left before our food even arrived. After about 40 minutes, our server came around and said 'it shouldn't be much longer, we're training kitchen staff so it's taking a little longer'. Not our problem, and clearly not true seeing as so many others who arrived after us were getting their food. The entire time we were waiting, servers stood around the register talking and not really checking on tables. By this point, people kept rolling in, the place got busy and we still didn't have our food 45 minutes after ordering. When our orders finally showed up after 53 minutes of being placed, mine wasn't what I ordered. I asked for a pan fried fish burger and got pan fried fish. The server was adamant that's what I ordered and proceeded to tell me that 'the only difference is the bun and veggies, otherwise it's the same fish'. I was quite surprised at the comment rather than offering to make it right. Given we had a waited nearly an hour for our food by this point, I sucked it up and just ate what I got. Service here is definitely lacking and it's clear staff doesn't have the skills required to deal with people. While the food was alright, the sides looked like they were scraped off of other peoples' plates and just thrown onto ours. No one bothered to check on us or apologize. When the bill arrived, I noticed $5.50 taken off and no explanation. I begrudgingly paid the nearly $70 bill for the two of us and decided we wouldn't be back again! read more

OMG the food tonight! We shared, one order of linguine with lobster and one of seared scallops with Caesar salad. Just LOOK at the number of scallops (and they were big)! Plus there was a ton of lobster in the pasta, the sauce was divine and the salad dressing was fresh and super garlicky. Lots of local craft beers and you could order a small 6oz glass for only $4 to try them. The vibe was very cool, place was packed with lots of very friendly locals and tourists, everyone chatty, super fun. What's K N O T to love about TKP? Was here on a business trip and extended my stay due to unforeseen circumstances (I booked the wrong flight). Tip Toed into this place and was put to ease. I had a great meal and a great beverage. The service was fantastic too- they explained the culture and ambiance of the pub, providing recommendations for my evening. The outside looks like a little tree house so we were super excited to try it out! The wait was long but the wait for food was even longer. It was about 20 minutes to get in, 30 minutes for food and my food wasn't even right. However, not once did a waitress come over to rectify or ask how our meal was - absolute disappointment. I had lunch here with my husband and father-in-law on our recent trip to Lunenberg. It was highly rated on Yelp, and the menu looked good. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The food was just OK. I had the Fish Cakes with a salad (it's $12 with fries, but if you want a side salad instead of fries they charge you an additional $2.50). I got 2 fish cakes which were pieces of salted cod with potatoes, onions and spices. They are coated in cornmeal then pan fried. The fish cakes were softer and mushier than I would have liked and they were so salty. I feel that they could have changed the water of the salted cod a few more times. I've had salted cod that's much less salty, so it can be done. For my salad I got to choose between Italian, Caesar and Greek salad. I got the Greek. It was romaine lettuce, red onions, tomatoes, cucumber and feta cheese. No olives though; how is it a Greek salad without black olives? :( The ingredients were fresh at least. The dressing was too oily. Thankfully I got it on the side. My husband got the fish cakes too, but fries instead of salad. The fries were unsalted, which I like. They were hot and crispy and very good. It was nice to have a few fries, but I feel that the fries with the fish cakes is potato overload, as there is a lot of potato in the fish cakes. My father-in-law had the Roast Beef sandwich $6.50 and a side of fries $3.75. He asked them not to put the cheddar cheese on it. The server forgot to tell the kitchen so they had to remake it and he had to wait a bit longer for his sandwich. The men also had some beers (prices are in the $5.50-$7 range). Service was OK. Decor is kind of cool. It's very pub-like but has some funky pieces. It's dark in there and there's a lot of wood. They say "When in Rome, do as the Romans do", and apparently that is what I did on a random Saturday afternoon while in Lunenburg. Packed to the gills after the lunch crowd should have been gone, I suppose that The Knot was one of but a handful of options for locals and visitors alike in the off season for tourism-dependent Lunenburg. I managed to snag a seat in possibly the oddest booth ever, which was comprised of two half-moons with an aisle down the middle between the tables which led to the bar and was heavily trafficked by the the servers, naturally. The rest of the pub is as you would expect, lots of dark woods, fishing paraphernalia and the occasional creepy, old timey photo on the walls. It's not unique, but it's inviting nonetheless. The menu consists of the typical pub fare with a heavy seafood component, which shouldn't be too surprising. The local German influence gets in there a bit as well with sausage and locally made sauerkraut as well. I had some time to kill and a belly to fill, so I went all in on the seafood and food in general - an order of fish chowder, followed by fish cakes and fries, a single piece of fried fish for good measure, and a pint of Knot ale to wash it all down. It took a while to place my order, but I cut the worn-out looking staff some slack. Once I did order, my beer and chowder came promptly. The chowder had big chunks of fish in a creamy, buttery broth that had just the right consistency, and pleasant yellow tint to it. Potato, celery and onion fleshed out the chowder some more and give it a well rounded flavour. Lightly buttered toast on the side was there to soak up the delicious remains. Two crisp, golden brown fish cakes arrived with a respectable pile of hand-cut fries, with a lemon wedge and chow on the side. The cakes were heavy on the mashed potato, but there was still a good amount of salt cod visible, which lent a mild cod flavour and of course saltiness, which was right up my alley. The chow added a tangy contrast, but I prefered the fish cakes on their own. The fries were good, coming out piping hot and seemed to get crispier under their own heat. They weren't award winners, but will certainly satisfy your fried potato cravings. The lone piece of fish was a decent size, and after all the food that I'd already had, I wouldn't have wanted one any bigger anyway. The batter unfortunately lacked any airiness at all and had a odd, hard texture. I didn't not like it, but I definitely prefer a more bubbly, beer battered fish. The fish itself was good, and had just a slight hint of sweetness. The pub emptied out a little over the course of the afternoon and my gorging, but maintained a good crowd. If you're in town and not feeling like some of the fancier places, or they're jsut not open, you can do a lot worse than coming by The Knot for a feed and a pint. read more

The Knot Pub was recommended to us by several Lunenburg locals so we stopped in for supper. We both ordered fish and chips (also recommended) one piece for me, two for my husband who also got a small Caesar salad instead of the chips. Someone should have warned us - the pieces of fish were huge and chips and salad servings very generous. The batter on the fish was crispy, light and had a slight sweetness to it, yum. The fish itself was delicious (haddock). We shared the chips and salad and both tasted good but I thought the salad was a little garlicky. read more

Very nice spot full of locals. We passed on Friday night for a drink and a bite, and even though we had to wait for one hour for the food, we enjoyed staying at the bar sipping some nice local white wine and chatting with other locals. We started with zucchini fingers as appetizers and it was delicious, rich with curry and other flavors. We had clams plate and fish cake! Both were yummy and fresh. Ahhh The Knot. What's a sailor supposed to do when they are ashore? You got it: ship's work all day, drink all night. With only two pubs in town, we switched up between the Banker and The Knot. The Knot is a bit more of a hike up from the waterfront. But it's a welcome change. The interior is woodsy and cozy. The booths are big and raised so people standing around are at a good height for chatting with friends who are sitting down. I love the strange middle area with the odd shaped wooden tables and the alley-way through the middle. Hard to describe until you see it yourself. Plus there is ample space to bust a move it the urge strikes ya ;) But please keep the head-butting to a minimum, they frown on that sort of thing. I would know. You know those places that you grew up going to, and when you see them as an adult your heart just MELTS? That is what the Knot Pub is for me. As one of 6 kids, for us birthdays were the rare and exciting meal you got alone with mom and dad...I may have been ahead of my time, as I always chose The Knot! At age 6 it was all I wanted and now...over 20 years later, I feel the same! Nostalgia is not the only thing that keeps me coming back, the welcoming environment is hard to resist (not to mention find nowadays!) Then there is the food. Never a disappointment. Mussels, chowder, fish and chips...anything you could ask for, they have it, and it is AMAZING! I mean, it is a pub...so fancy, fine dinning it is not. But delicious, it most definitely IS! I also fully appreciate a fantastic meal that does not cost an arm and a leg. (or that allows me to get EVERYTHING for a fair price!) The drive to Lunenburg from Halifax is a good distance and may not seem worth it for a pub, but i say to you...DO IT! You will not regret it, the people, the food, the atmosphere...not to mention Lunenburg in general is gorgeous and worth the drive. My only suggestion is to go with good friends or family, so you CAN get everything and share! Road trips are so much better with people you love and the Knot will just be cherry on the top of that Sundae! (Maybe the chocolate sauce and sprinkles too!) read more

The Knot is one of the reasons we moved to Lunenburg :) It's a great local pub; atmospheric, friendly, with really great pub food and a great staff. The food is excellent: plentiful, well-cooked, often with local ingredients (the fish and chips and fish cakes are excellent, as is the fish chowder) and very reasonable in price. It gets very busy in tourist season, so either eat early, or be prepared to wait for a table. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because my English husband is slightly suspicious of the way they take care of their draught beer. He likes the beer at The River in Bridgewater better :) Personally, I'd give it four and half -- it's wonderful, and a must-see if you come to Lunenburg. read more

One of the most popular pubs on the South shore - crowded, noisy and a good time - all the locals are there and all know each other. Everything's good but falls short of excellent. Long wait times ( it's crowded) and a bit pricy like everything in world heritage site Lunenburg. Definitely go if your looking for local flavour. read more

Just a short walk away from the centre of town one can find The Knot Pub at the main intersection into town. Keep an eye open because it is hard to see in the usual rush to get to the history bits of town. The Knot was recommended by a local shop keeper who said that it is the only place in town that you will have difficulty finding a seat in the middle of winter! It has the look feel and smell of all things nautical, right down to the hemp rope smell. The fish cakes are made with salt cod, there is no lobster on the menu ( it being a tourist dish) and there was a fantastic sweet porter on tap. I had the sausages and kraut which seems to suit the German heritage of the town. The food was great - but the crowning touch was the beestinger mustard! Woohoo I love hot food and this mustard was as good a clearing the sinuses as I have ever found in Atlantic Canada. What great fun. Don't forget that there is a large lot behind the pub for parking and it is a short walk from anywhere in town. This amazing local PUB in Luneneburg makes amazing food, my favorites are : The small Mussel Soup Caesar Salad FishCakes. Fish n' Chips Salmon Burger Amongst all the other great typical fare from the area. Its High Quality, very reasonably priced, and relatively healthy as far as pub food always feels afterwards. I must mention thebeautifully decorated space with nautical artifacts and fine old "style" decor and finish carpentry. Love the large conmunal tables, I met some lovely people. I actually went here 3 times in 24 hours. Burger was okay. Scallops in butter sauce were out of this world. Best value ever, the cooking elevated and let the flavours of the scallop stand out. No bacon wrapped scallops for me! I believe I got the Caesar salad with this as well. Also very good. Arrived in Lunenburg after a drive across the province. We needed to grab dinner after setting up our camping gear at The Ovens Natural Park nearby and based on recommendations on Chowhound and Yelp the Knot Pub seemed to fit our bill. The standout of the meal was the seafood chowder, a not-too-rich cream broth with a giant hunk of fish hiding just below the surface with potatoes, celery and buttered toast for dipping. The fish cakes were also delicious, with a good balance of fried crispy bits and soft tasty interior. Pan fried scallops with a caesar salad were perfectly done and wading in a tiny pool of delicious garlic butter, to which was added the significant garlic wallop of the aforementioned salad. The house ale is a tasty dark beer and the prices are completely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food received. I would recommend the Knot Pub to anyone travelling through Lunenburg and would urge people to get up off the waterfront to explore this and other slightly inland options. read more

I think this point has been covered, but the word that describes The Knot is cozy. Just a blink-and-you'll-miss-it building on the cusp of Old Town Lunenberg, where, if you can, you want to slide into a snug wooden booth and order a nice big pint. The food is fantastic too. Being visitors from the West Coast (raised on salmon, this fisherman's daughter was) we wanted to try the local seafood. The scallops did Lunenburg proud, perfectly prepared, big and juicy. The seafood chowder was excellent too, creamy broth with generous hunks of fish and potatoes. We had to try the deep-fried pepperoni too, since it seems to appear on every pub menu in Nova Scotia, and that was the only disappointment. I reckon its a standard, but ... it's an enduring mystery. Very friendly, very popular, very tasty and very affordable, you should absolutely eat and drink here whenever in Lunenburg. read more

The decor is very cozy for Christmas with garland, lights, and ribbons and soft lighting, coupled with the dark woodsy interior. The booths are circular and give you lots of space which is a nice change. The service was quick and they have happy hour between 4 pm and 730 pm. The fish cakes come with two different types of chutney which were tasty and the fish cakes were the right balance between crispy on the outside and soft with potatoes on the inside. You have the option of a salad or fries on the side for only $10. My husband enjoyed the knot burger - a sausage burger with sauerkraut. This is a great place to hang out, especially on a winter day. read more
