There is a minimum two night stay and a maximum of two people in the Tree Howf. Correspondence was timely. We paid via wire transfer which was a new experience for us. The shower in the treehouse is hot and water pressure is good. The composting toilet is down some stairs, but the light automatically comes right on along with the radio. The woodburning stove is a charming and practical touch. You can cook on a gas burner or on an outdoor barbecue. I had read on Trip Advisor that towels and other items weren't provided, but that's not true, because they were provided! The view is unbelievably beautiful and the Highland Cows make it all the more picturesque! There is a lovely little honesty shop where you can pick up any items you may need that is incredibly convenient. This may be the most charming location in the world! It is a great hub to explore Stirling Castle, Doune Castle and other amazing nearby locations! Sometime in 2018 Hobbit Howfs will join the other amazing locations you can book here at Craighead Howf!

Short walk to the river. What would be better than a stop here? A stay here! Pricey, but warranted. Look for low rates and deals off season.

The outdoor grounds provide a peaceful place to walk -- and the flowing river is just 100 yard down a short hill. The real star is the Bistro restaurant next door which turned out to be our best meal during our two week tour of the UK. Only reason we wound up there is because they were full at the main hotel "fancy" restaurant - the the desk manager steered us to The Potting Shed. Chef was Polish and is certainly going places -- as for VERY reasonable prices we got amazing, beautiful dishes like Beet Root, Parsnip Fritters, Chicken wrapped in Parma Ham, Fish and Chips, Lamb, and the most wonderful Bread and Butter Pudding for desert. Atmosphere was rustic and charming -- sit on the small covered patio for that view. Would HIGHLY recommend if you are anywhere near this area -- it's worth a special trip just to see the Peacocks parading on the lawn.

The breaksfasts are delicious and very filling. We stayed in the double en suite room with views out over the garden. There was a television, small bathroom with shower and tea and coffee making facilities. Can't say we were hugely impressed with the UHT milk, but otherwise it was wonderful. It was a very peaceful place considering being in the centre of Stirling. The rates were very reasonable and we were made very welcome and very comfortable during our stay. The other guests were wonderful too. We will most likely go back there again too.

Even when the weather is poor - which is often in Scotland - the hotel and surrounding area are absolutely stunning. Go for a walk and come back to proper cocktails, fabulous food and a roaring fire. The quality of the food was really the stand out feature of this place. Clearly as much as possible is sourced locally, a lot of it actually grown on site. However, it's the refinement of Scottish classics while retaining the essence of the hearty, robust nature that's the talent. We were there for NYE where we had the 3 days package. That being the case, I can tell you that their mass catering is as good as I've seen any where else. This place is great for a couple and would be unbelievable as a wedding venue. Not to be missed.

He got a great deal through 5pm with dinner, bed and breakfast for £100 for the two of us. He was a bit anxious about how good it would be as had read some mixed reviews of the hotel online. He had nothing to worry about, as I had a lovely overnight stay, fabulous dinner, and a quality breakfast, in what I thought were lovely surroundings. Situated a few miles from Milngavie on the edge of Strathblane, the hotel is nestled away off the main road in peaceful, leafy surroundings. The decor is exactly what you would expect from a traditional Scottish Country House Hotel, complete with tartan carpets, and oil paintings of Scottish landscapes on the wall, and a lovely cosy fire by the bar with a good selection of whiskeys. The bedroom and accompanying bathroom were really spacious, and the bed was really comfortable giving me the best night's sleep I have had in a long time! As for evening meal, I was really impressed with the standard of the food. The menu changes daily, with a good selection of each course to choose from. I opted for a ham hock terrine with a crackling crumble to start - this was really delicious with a lovely crunch from the crackling crumble. My main course was pan seared chicken breast with black pudding, a selection of market veg, potato dauphinoise and a saffron champagne sauce. The chicken was beautifully cooked, the veg were lovely, the potato dauphinoise was super tasty, and the sauce was packed full of flavour. For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding, this was nice... though probably my least favourite course, as I would have loved more sauce to keep it perfectly moist. STP has a tendency to be a little dry if there is not enough sauce for it to bathe in! Breakfast was well presented with all the usual options available. The staff in the hotel were all really lovely.. very friendly and helpful. If staying for more than a night, there is plenty to do nearby with Mugdock Country Park nearby, Glengoyne Distillery, and Loch Lomond only a little further down the road. I would really recommend this place if you are looking for an overnight stay, not too far from Glasgow. A great deal if you can get it through 5pm also!

It was a long drive from Edinburgh, but worth every mile. The hotel is located in the middle of nature, not far outside of Glasgow to the North West and close to Loch Lomond. We were guided to the restaurant area and got a table at the window. Luckily the sun was shining and it felt warm. The lounge area had a nice big fire place, but unfortunately no servings. The afternoon tea was delicious. Not the usual servings. We started off with our gourmet sandwiches served on sun dried tomato and petit pain breads: smoked ham & pineapple salsa, free range egg mayonnaise & chive, roast chicken, crispy bacon, lettuce & tomato, smoked Scottish salmon & cream cheese, Followed by Goats cheese & red onion confit tart, Tomato & spinach puff pastry crown and Lavender scones and apple & cinnamon scones with raspberry & rose petal preserve & whipped cream Also, a selection of sweets: pistachio macaroon with vanilla cream cheese filling, salted caramel & belgian chocolate encased in butter pastry, sharp creamy lemon shot, marbled rose meringue & chantilly cream The coffee and teas however were nothing special. Service was nice and pleasant. Would I go back? Yes I would and even go for a walk around the hills ........

Had an amazing stay recently. Was with a tour group which can leave hotel staff feeling rushed,…read moreunprepared and overwhelmed. The restaurant manager was beyond amazing. She worked the breakfast shift and when found out the dinner manager had called out she stayed to make sure our experience was pleasant. All the service staff was exceptional. The food was fresh, albeit bland (par for scottish food) but they take great care in the presentation of the food which is impressive.

They offer a basic lunch menu with several larger dishes, such as salmon and burgers. The service was a little on the slow side but it seemed like the staff were rushed off their feet. My humous and grilled pepper ciabatta was large with generous portions of both humous and peppers. Although the humous was a little dry and it didn't taste freshly made, it was still an enjoyable, reasonably cheap lunch. Based on the location of the cafe and the fact that there's so much to see and do on the premises, it's a worthy pit stop. Ideal if you've forgotten your packed lunch! Otherwise, it's probably best for tea and cake!

The hotel provides B&B at reasonable rates, clean and simply decorated comfortable rooms with baths. It also has a full service restaurant and Pub. The restaurant serves traditional Scottish fare from locally suppliers. The Pub serves a good selection of beers, ales, wines and Scottish whiskey. The staff is very friendly, helpful and professional.
