I love this train and the people that ride it! Many eclectic styles and free people.

The L Train, the Carnarsie Line as they call it. Lots of people getting on this train heading off to Brooklyn and coming into Manhattan. Hipsters, business suits and just about anyone you can imagine takes this line. It's all the gentrification that is happening in Brooklyn. Still there are some parts that are not the safest like several stations heading through East New York. Only couple stations in Brooklyn where the the hipsters and yuppies are. What I love about the L train is that there is not such a long wait to hop on the train going towards 8th Ave in Manhattan like every 5-8 minutes there is a train coming. It's packed during rush hour, but then again there is another train coming within several minutes. In the old days, you miss an L train and the wait is brutal. The MTA now a days have so many trains coming and going there is no need to run after trains or hold doors. Life is good in NYC.

Oh the L train. It is reliable in the sense that you can always count on service to be disrupted and "train traffic ahead". Yesterday the mob of people waiting extended as far as the steps of the station, almost to the turnstiles. My 30 minute commute took over an hour. That being said, the passengers on this train are by far the raddest you'll meet in NYC. Late one Saturday night, a gal named Chelsea had one too many. The whole train got her a bag, a hair tie, and cheered for each stop she made without puking. It was beautiful. Other highlights include pole dancers, the pan flute guy, and white hipsters (dreadlocks optional) debating stereotypical millennial topics such as, but not limited to, who loves kale more, and heteronormativity. God bless this train, and let's be real here - I'm never on time anyway.

When it's good, it's very, very good. But when it's bad, it's horrible. Yeah, it's fast. It runs fairly regularly and quickly. You what kills it? Two things: Rush hour. I don't care how many aspiring models ride this line. When it's rush hour, way too many people in one car for my liking. Weekend shuttle. I hate the L weekend shuttle. Plus why is it, when I have somewhere to go important on the weekend, is when the L line decides to pull the weekend shuttle stunt? Ugh. Still, to be fair...the L has made some major improvements. I do remember one time back in the mid-80s. This is going back to my teen years, so I do remember the L before Williamsburg got all trendy and whatnot. Anyway..it was New Year's Day. Mid-afternoon. One skinny pale guy, maybe looked like some indie rocker type, sitting by himself in the corner seat. The subway car was quiet. Mostly people minding their own business. Then all of the sudden, the quiet guy in the corner just puked something vicious. He was throwing up continuously. When he was done, quietly got up as if he had been reading the newspaper, and nonchalantly got off on his subway stop. The rest of the car who had been watching him were in stunned silence. That's the NYC I remember.

L Train gets you into Manhattan from Brooklyn. I lived in Greenpoint and always took the L Train into Manhattan. The Bedford stop is right on Bedford and is really busy. ALL HAIL THE L TRAIN! L TRAIN FOREVER!

The M train goes to Metropolitan Avenue and to Manhattan and back to Forest Hills. Sucks that they go midtown and to upper Queens instead of to the financial district and to Bay Parkway, Brooklyn like back in the days when it was a brown M train. I miss that. The M train is now orange and they are all the new R160 trains by the Japanese so no wonder they have blue plastic seats that smell so damn strong like formaldehyde! When they were built, the plastic produced a strong smell for my liking. It sucks. Also it is very lit and the conductor does not announce the train stops anymore for these trains. The train has automated announcements unlike the J trains that are still the old R42 ones with the long bench seating, which is limited seating for customers. The gray benches are solid and there's heating underneath them and sometimes the heat blows my feet. These trains got a lot of scratches on the door windows. I think the old R42 trains are cleaner and lot fresher than the blue plastic benches on the R160 trains. Sucks that the old trains got to go. The blue seating is getting dirtier especially during the pandemic when sitting was impossible. The blue seats are all smeared with dirt and oil and ointment in almost every spot. Blood and poop too on them! It's like what the hell. The MTA should definitely impose a special cleaning crew project to clean the filthy dirty blue seats.

Plus, the long ass climb up the stairs to get to the platform doesn't help matters too much. At least you can get cell phone reception along this elevated line. Other then that there is nothing at all that makes this subway station stand out or any different from the many along this line. Plus, the hood surrounding it is kind of sketchy at night. Oh yeah there is one thing. The subway lets out right across the street from Duff''s Heavy Metal bar! It's the only reason I ever take this train to begin with and gets three stars just for that. Sort of like your own personal or almost personal giant cab ride into the city for 1/5 of the price of an Uber ride. I took this years ago around Christmas time just carrying many packages I told the driver I needed to go to Lindenwood and was carrying this somewhat large video game chair. Holiday time the ride is definitely longer, the ride just took me about 50 mins in the afternoon in July to get to 34th Street and Lexington Avenue. In the mornings, I am sure it is more of a hassle to get to work in the city. Will be more willing to take this into the city or home when I am here in Queens, N.Y., each trip would be different based on the driver and / or super heavy traffic. As of July 2019, they do not seem to take coins as payment anymore so that kind of sucks but just bring your Metrocard with some money on it and enjoy the Stagecoach.
