A proper pub, with proper beer, a proper atmosphere on a proper street. Superlatives aside, this pub is all that I want from a boozer. The staff were also very knowledgeable and friendly upon my visit. It's a shame I can't go there more often, but I will certainly return. read more

Great pub in the center of London It's on a perfect little street in Bloomsbury and all old-fashioned decor and pints. Friendly staff and an electic mix of 'locals' (let your imagination work out just how eccentric most of the people who can afford to live in this desirable area can be), tourists and UCL students from nearby halls. It's not bad price unless you drink spirits but the down side of this place is the food - this is a Young's brewery pub after all, guaranteeing good bitter but average (and expensive) meals. read more

One of the local pubs in my area, this is a really fantastic and traditional place. Complete with wood, comfy and slightly worn sofas and plenty of cozy spots to sit in The staff are friendly and chatty, always around to spend time and give advice. Drinks are reasonable and there are some delicious ales here, british classics and foreign imports all served on tap in big, foaming glasses. Waggledance is a personal favourite There are plenty of bar snacks to keep you going, and a bowl of salty chips usually hits the spot. This is a lovely area with independant retailers and true community spirit and when you're drinking here, you feel part of a community - something which is lacking in many parts of london i feel. Go and try the great ales and see the shops along this quaint little street. read more

Really liked the venue and would recommend it to all looking for high quality rustic pub food. The price isn't cheap but its not expensive, relative to other restaurants and pubs in London it's well worth visiting. Just off Russell Square it's quite accessible, and down some back streets that it's hidden from the masses. Time your visit, after people get out of work at 5 it tends to get busy. We hired the upstairs room at the Lamb and they were brilliant most of the time - £50 for the evening including bar staff Most of the time they were super helpful and really happy to have us but then there were brief moments of "oh well we were only meant to staff the bar until 9pm but I thought I'd stay until 11pm", when we'd been told we had the staff until 11. Also, they got funny about us having to room moved back and everyone out by 11pm but then when we started to do it the staff were lovely and said it was fine and they were happy to do it. Odd! The food is great though - especially the wedges, nice solid pub grub. read more

The Lamb is a decent pub, ran by some very decent people. I don't think they have done themselves any favours however with the layout and the prices of their food. The choice on the menu is limited and way overpriced, and getting a seat is near impossible. The bar is completly surrounded by a glass screen of sorts and makes for a very unusual look. I was discomforted by it! Very narrow gap between seating and bar as well.. the physical deficiencies of this pub has to count against it and I wouldn't advise you to go there. read more

This place is a top choice for students attending universities in the area. I went during a non-term time so it was mostly older guests, but it was alright. The bartender was fine; it's a little expensive for a uni-student budget, but it's alright. There is an upstairs seating area as well, so there is plenty of seating which is always good. Their whiskey selection is minimal, but it is a pub so it's not such a surprise. read more

It's our first night out in London, and we couldn't have picked a better pub. I had the toad in the hole meal, and it really was to die for. I'm not a sausage fan, but the sausage was so good. Also, I liked the mustard in the mash. I've read that everyone says this place is expensive, but I'm happy with the atmosphere, food, service, and, in my opinion, I'm on vacation so it's worth any increase in price to me. First night out, so I can't really speak to usual prices in the city. However, I'm pleased with the prices for the quality rendered. read more

Our family just had a wedding vow renewal and this was the best place to eat that was very close to the church. We had 19 people in our group and we had a reservation so we got our own room. I ordered the sirloin steak and it was really good. My brother got the hamburger and he thought it was delicious. Now, the star of the night: the Scottish egg was super good. Scottish eggs are soft boiled egg with breaded sausage around it. The service was great and they went out of their way to make sure we were ok. In total, a really nice place for big parties or just for a few and would would all come back if we were in the U.S. read more

Marvellous little pub, and tucked away off the main road, so can't be found except by those who know where it is (in the manner of the treasure island in Pirates of the Caribbean). With a lovely old-fashioned feel to the pub, the dark wood and homely surroundings make for a wonderful atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced, and unless it's a Friday night, you can usually get a seat. A great place to take someone on a first date, to impress them with your knowledge of good places in London! read more

Lovely traditional pub which often seems to be rammed despite being slightly off the beaten track. The best bit is the Victorian jukebox which plays tinkly music off a copper disc with holes punched in it. Ask the barstaff for a token to make it work - I think there's a nominal payment but it's worth it just to see the thing in action. read more

Really nice pub located next door to a fantastic restaurant, so ideal for a night out with friends. It's normally busy in the evenings after work, but rarely reaches the point of being uncomfortably crowded. Good selection of beers (even if mine was a bit warmer than I'd have liked) and not extortionately priced. read more

A good quality Youngs pub in a quiet Bloomsbury road. It takes a little finding if you're coming from Holborn but easier from Russell Square. Ale selection is fantastic, as is the decor - very little has changed over the years, and the bar is fantastic - however there probably isn't much room to move for the staff! Food service was a little slow and a little pricey for the quantity. One order from our group of 10 was taken wrongly and took 45 minutes to rectify! However if you're on an ale trail or looking for characterful pubs, pop in for a quick one - it shouldn't disappoint with the beer. read more

We found this quaint little pub whilst browsing through London's Time out Magazine and decided to give it a go. The food was average and not that which was classed as homemade was already sold out and it was all including the drinks a tad too expensive. This said it is entirely worth the visit as the pub itself was historically amazing. It had many quirky little features including snob screens on the U shaped bar. Old characterture cartoon drawings of the time. The service was warm and friendly and the atmosphere just right as being quite secluded it was just right for 8pm on a Saturday night. This lovely little pub gives the visitor the impression that he or she is walking into a private club. This is obviously a place where old friends come to meet and discuss the news of the day. While the bar staff will happily chat with the regulars, this is not to the detriment of the service and newcomers will receive a welcoming smile and a carefully poured pint. The high Victorian style of the pub and plethora of black and white photographs of actresses and handsome society ladies from the turn of the century accentuate this pub's charm. The upstairs can (and, in this reviewer's opinion, should) be rented out for private events. If you've never been to The Lamb and love London's historic pubs, this little local is definitely worth a visit. read more

I love this little place. Became a regular pub for my friends and I while we lived a short while in London. The place is crowded at the weekend, except for an hour before closing, which is when I went. I've since moved back to the US and I will forever miss the London Stout I had here every weekend. I also love the small room in the back with a large table where you could play board games and such. read more

Decent beer with an averagely mainstream ale selection (6 hand pumps or so, Youngs pub so usual Youngs beers plus a guest ale or two). Tired Victorian decor lets this place down a bit. Found The Lamb on a general walkabout and the Youngs sign drew us closer as my partner has history with Youngs and we were sure what drinks to expect. Lovely pub and very friendly welcome barman patient and willing to chat. It was late Sunday afternoon and many pubs in the vacinity were as quiet as this one. Disconcerted that 2 members of staff seem to be having an inapproprite conversation about a third member of staff, and despite having time for a bitching session dirty glasses were left on tables. Didn't stop us returning later after exploring the area to take part in the quiz which was held in a delightful upstairs room, and found that trade was picking up. At about 10.30pm I enquired if they were still serving food to be told You must be joking!! well I wouldn't have asked if I already knew now would I! I didn't even know they'd stop serving drinks let alone food. So despite its locality within easy reach of our hotel, and the Youngs on draught we didn't make a return visit during our stay prefering instead to try out the many competitors. read more
