3/27/17 This is a cute little Pub, staff is friendly and service was good. You order drinks and food at the bar like almost every Pub in London. Food came in a timely fashion and was very good. We had Mac and cheese, nachos and trio platter (pot pie - fish- burger) so yummy. I love the fact the most of the food in Europe is freshly made and without all the salt and preservatives. read more

I was staying across the street at the Marriott and I decided to pop into here for lunch. The location is quaint, the beer is cold, and the setting is quintessential London. For lunch, I had a steak and ale pie. I know one can get a pie almost anywhere in London and I am sure there are much better places, but I must admit, this was pretty gosh darn good. When I sunk my fork into this pie, I saw a beautiful dark gravy with nice chunks of beef and yummy goodness. I DEVOURED this plate of food. My plan was to walk around Bond Street and the other bazaars as it was my first full day in London (after getting in at 8pm the night prior), so I was worried that I would be too full to go out. This was not the case. The portion size was just perfect and the pie warmed me up on a somewhat chilly day. I felt full but not stuffed, and the cold beer I had with it was just icing on the cake. Make sure to come in here and give these guys a try for lunch if you are out in this area. You will not regret it. read more

Now that I've been to London a handful of times, I have learned a truth about pubs: While some may be extraordinary or extraordinarily awful, for the most part a pub is a pub is a pub. I love that London has such a pub culture, but after some time they all start to feel the same. That being said, I certainly like Barley Mow as I found it to be quite cozy. The staff was friendly from the moment we walked in the door, the beer was readily available, and it wasn't too difficult to find a seat. The street right outside is Christmas on steroids, so it was fun to watch the bustling action from the window. I approve of Barley Mow. But I just finished saying a pub is a pub is a pub, so what is special about Barley Mow? I was a big fan of the private booths, with full wood doors to ensure privacy. We were joking that a lot of shenanigans could take place with that much privacy in a bar, but then I noticed that they all were in fact open to the bar. At least the barkeep could keep an eye on them! Still, I would love having either a date or a small group of friends get together and snag one of those private booths. I think it would make for a special night out. Maybe these things are incredibly typical and I'm just the out-of-touch tourist, but it was the first that I saw and I dig. Yay Barley Mow! read more

I didn't have the food here but came for a drink with a dear friend. We ordered G&T, and boy, that was the weakest G&T I've ever had - they were definitely skimpy on the gin and even I, an occasional drinker, could NOT taste any gin in the drink. I'm not sure what happened that night night but maybe I went on an off night? The highlight was a sign over the bar for "Posh Nuts: Wasabi, Thai and Smoked," with a squirrel in a top hat. This place doesn't really do it for me. It is old and scruffy and needs a good clean. Used to go in there quiet a lot and I don't really now why. It was near the office but I cannot think of another reason why I would choose to go there. Always a few people hanging around both inside and out (in the summer) but I am really struggling to tell you why you should go there.........I could bang on about how it would be a traditional English pub and a perfect stop off for American tourists but I would be ashamed to think that is what an English pub is all about...... We always end our day at this pub. It is convenient to the hotel and we enjoy having a beer to end our day after all that shopping and sight seeing. I like their bangers and mash. I also enjoy their shepherds pie, but really it's nice to just go there and relax. The bar help are always very friendly. I think it's one of the things we always look forward to on our trips to London. This sign is outside the door of the pub. We had been going for ages before we noticed it. After we saw it we had to look for the bullet holes at the hotel. read more

The Barley Mow is a quaint pub, on a corner, hidden just off Oxford Street. I am actually a big fan of this traditional British pub. It looks, smells and feels like every British pub should and I feel almost at home here. They have a great upstairs room which you can dine in and also reserve for 30-40 people. They're very relaxed when it comes to reservations and it's the perfect spot for a family/group gathering. Prices are average and fitting with its sister bars. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and just a really pleasant place to be. What more could you want? read more

The smell of wealth in Mayfair is so intoxicating that drinking almost seems like a waste of money. But of course drinking is an obligation not a choice, so we resisted the temptation to charge into Claridge's with our ties around our head shouting "¡Viva la revolucion!", and headed for the Barley Mow instead. The Barley Mow is a decent spot if you've been shopping in nearby Oxford Street, but probably a bit low-rent if you've been shopping in nearby New Bond Street (head to the Connaught instead). The nachos were excellent, the beer was well-kept, the girls behind the bar was cheery and chatty and even the underage drinkers were harmless. Amusingly , one of the teens nonchalantly told the bartender to "keep the change" in a futile attempt to appear like a grown-up person. Or perhaps it was a bribe to secure continued illicit drinking time. I deem it a three-star joint because it is an unremarkable place, but it is competently unremarkable and a worthy spot to tank up on Doombar before starting the revolution. This pub down a side street of Oxford Street is quite small but with an upstairs room that you can hire out for private events. The bar is stocked with all the usuals and the staff are friendly but it doesn't have a welcoming vibe that I am used to from my locals. Reasonably priced but a little cramped. read more

Cool place for a pint. They have beers on tap and a good bunch of hand pulled beers. It's a classic English pub and of course very crowded after 5PM. The service is ok but not overall friendly. Hmmm, I'm shocked at the negative reviews. I go there for the food and I love it. That said, I almost always get the bangers and mash, which of the dozen or so places in London I've had bangers and mash, the Barley Mow is right up there. Once you place your order they tend to bring it right away. One tip I'd offer is that when you order a soft drink, get the larger size -- not much more but more than twice the amount of the smaller size. read more

Expensive (this is Mayfair) but the interior is cosy and there's usually room in the upstairs 'lounge' even when the main bar is busy.

One star for decent food - terrible service. Ordered our food and waited an hour to be told that they only had two out of the seven orders, so we had to order something different and wait another 45 min while half of our party ate their dinner before we received the rest of our orders. The wait staff was not at all apologetic and it would be a stretch to call them friendly. Thankfully we were in no hurry and the beers were good. With all of the other options around I would recommend to just avoid this place. read more
