We recently purchased our home with a large backyard. My husband and I did a bulk of the work including cutting down small trees, trimming bushes, and taking yard debris that had been piling up for years. We had such a large pile and our community only offers yard waste pick up once a month. We needed help getting rid of all the yard debris and the whole yard clean up, including removal, raking , weeding, and anything to get the ground to where we could plant and lay fresh mulch. I assumed from other quotes that is what a yard clean up is. Comma was quick to reply and I was impressed with his responsiveness. He came out and took a look. He said he'd charge $750 for the whole yard clean up and could come the next morning. Now, this is where I encourage anyone moving forward with him to be weary. He doesn't write what things include or any formal estimates. He just says he likes to take each step at a time with pricing. That is a red flag. I knew his estimate was way higher than others but I was desperate to get it done and he said he could come the next day. So we proceeded. The next day he and two other workers came. They took away the pile my husband and I did and then left. We had to go to a soccer game for my kids so we had to leave before they were done loading the yard debris we did. We paid before we left. When we came back a few hours later, they were not there and the yard was not completed. Large sticks, pine cones, piles of leaves and yard debris were on the side of the house. Where were they and why eat it not complete? I texted Comma and asked if they were coming back. He said yes. In the meantime his stump guy came and removed large stumps which was a hefty $2000 but again he was available right then and we were desperate. The stump guy arrived 2 hours before Comma and the two other workers returned. After about an hour, Comma came and knocked and told me they were finished. I was in the middle of making dinner so I didn't go check the work. It was not completed again! I got the rake and made huge piles, took several pictures and sent them to Comma. He called and said they weren't finished and that they couldn't finish because the stump guy. That made no sense to me but after already paying we wanted to maintain the relationship in hopes he would come back and finish the work. A week later he came by and saw that we had pretty much finished what he didn't do. He then mentioned weeding was not included in clean up and was a seperate charge and that each step is a seperate charge. Again, be weary of someone that can't write formal estimates of their prices and what it includes. He charmed my husband and my husband paid him an additional $200 to spray weeds after still not finishing the initial $750 paid clean up. This is double the price of any other weed company but again, we wanted all the work completed. He ensured me and my husband that he would come back the next week and pick the dead weeds. When texted to see when he was coming back, he said they were done and were ready for the next step, which eat planting Shrubs and flowers. I asked about pricing. He couldn't give a clear price. I was not comfortable moving forward with him. So we are now out $1000 for two things he didn't finish. I would not recommend him. Go with people that can write things out and tell you what each thing costs. Go with people that can schedule things in advance and communicate it clearly. Go with someone that actually completes the work and your don't have to double check. Comma is very good at saying what you want to hear to get paid with no intention of actually finishing or doing quality work. read more
