Potato soup to die for, but don't just yet because then you can't try the heavenly fried chicken, or roast beef sandwiches! The wait is a bit long if they are busy but the food is authentic and the menu is large enough that even the pickiest of eaters will find something they like. The tourists are a mixed bag of those wearing masks and those who think they are to special to need to. Social distancing isn't great but they have patio seating. The little general store is cute too, and fun to wander through so make sure you have some extra time to stop and smell the roses.

This is the second Mennonite store out in the Lead Mine area and the one that has a restaurant attached to it. No credit cards taken, checks or cash only. Tons of books, lots of fabric and Mennonite life supplies (hats, shoes, socks etc.) Canning food supplies, spices, candles, dishware and a cafe in bavk. Lots of parking, I only saw 1 restroom and the place was clean and organized.

Want to escape the fast pace world of today? This is your place. Homemade everything with flavor that is more than satisfying because it reminds your of grandma's cooking. Only open a limited time for lunch and the menu has the availability of items marked with a check mark. Some items are only served on certain days but they keep you wanting more so come back to try it all. Hot meals with a side are under $10.00 and they have both hot and cold sandwiches that come with homemade sweet pickles and chips or you can get half with a salad or soup. Sodas are served from a bottle. My rev meal a chicken salad fresh chicken salad on homemade sourdough bread and the beef and noodles was incredible honestly fresh homemade egg noodles with tender beef and gravy. Golden potato soup with ham cubes, carrots and a hint of cheese was thick and creamy. Ice cream on Saturdays is homemade. If you are a lake of the Ozark this is a hidden little gem run in the Mennonite community by the locals so don't be surprised when you see a hitching post out front with a horse or two tied to it. Share the road and watch for bicycles and enjoy the change of fast pace America.

Okay, so I swore I would never review WalMart. I mean, it's WalMart, right? We've all been there,…read morewe've all stood in a long line with slow cashiers and we have all walked a hundred miles in this store just to get milk. We have also all marveled at the human species while in this ginormous store. We've been there, done that. The game changer for me, though, was the order pickup tower that was recently installed. WOW-WE! Before the tower when you ordered something online for store pickup, you had certain hurdles you had to jump over to get your item. You had to scan in, wait for someone to acknowledge you, show you ID, wait while they searched through lockers to find your item and then you were good to go. With the tower, you scan in the barcode that has been emailed to you. Your product is rotated around and then scooped into a bin and the bin releases into an opening in the tower. You simply retrieve your item and *POOF* off you go. It took me under two minutes to get my item. Seriously, it was that fast. It was fun watching the item being retrieved, too. The best part about this new service is you do not have to wait for someone to wait on you. You don't have to wait for fumbling clerks to find a locker key, rummage through other items to retrieve your product. It is quite an incredible system. I actually might order more things just so I can use it again. LOL. At this point in time, there are only 150 of these towers in operation throughout the United States. I am just grateful there is one in Lawrence. I am one of those techy geek people and WalMart just knocked it out of the park!

I asked the employee watching the checkouts, she was right next to the one I used, if scanning the same item multiple times was okay for multiple purchases. She told me that was fine. I could scan the same package of butter 4 times for 4 packages. I did so. I also did the same thing with a bottle of lemon lime soda. Scanned the same bottle 6 times for 6 bottles. I noticed this lunatic employee was standing off to the side of me, watching what I did. I thought nothing of it. I got to a bucket of lard I was purchasing and was preparing to scan it when BOOM! This lanky, rude kid pushes me aside and says, "Attempted fraud! We have to check this out!" Pathetic, ignorant, rude wretch proceeds to start punching keys, pushes me out of the way and then says, "It all checks out." I was infuriated beyond words!!! He grabs the bucket of lard, scans it, puts it down and says, "You're okay, we're done." I lost it. I said, "Junior, I da%n well don't need YOU to check out my items in self checkout! What the ***((( do you think I'm trying to do?!! STEAL A BUCKET OF LARD?!!!!!!" I hate this WalMart!!! I've observed them pulling similar stunts before on other folks. PURCHASE YOUR FOOD ITEMS AT ALDI'S! At least they don't attack you, shove you out of the way, etc.
