We just bought a bag of simple truth, organic golden potatoes, and we did the best we could to inspect them in the bag at the store. Got them home and had to throw a couple away immediately because they were rotten and almost every other potato was already sprouted. I can't say this is the first time this kind of event has happened. It seems all of the vegetables are borderline bad right from the store. I've purchased milk that was in date but sour when I opened it and my daughter and I both got sick on a cooked deli chicken one time.from this store. I've also seen meat that is blatantly out of date based on their own labels. I keep telling myself never to buy anything fresh from the store, that possibly canned prepackaged items were OK, that's a fairly specific grocery run when you can't trust things that are supposed to be fresh. The only good thing I can say about the store is the mailed coupons are always very specific to what I've previously purchased. Generally though, the checkout line is exceedingly long and takes as much time to get through it as an entire grocery shopping trip by itself. read more

Very deceptive in pricing sale prices. A lot of fresh meat prices are not labeled. If stuff is on sale, you must read fine print because the sale price is usually only if you have a digital coupon. Fresh bread on daily sale put in wrong place and not really on sale. Buy one get one free not given When I approached the customer service, the they made me bring food back in. When I set on counter the food, i was barked at they were bothering her paper she was writing on. Never again will I shop at this rude and deceptive store read more

The decision to eliminate jobs and replace human cashiers with rows of automated self-checkout lanes by this store (or more accurately, their corporate overseers at Kroger) is a master-class on how to alienate customers. These automated checkouts consistently malfunction, complicates a historically simple cashier process, creates long lines of unhappy customers which are then forced to become their own cashier and bagger just to spend their own money. I feel terrible for the staff which must endure this corporate lunacy and disrespect of their customers via horrifically detached corporate group think decision-making. read more

i have bought gerbes fried chicken for a long time and thought of it as the best fried chicken in the lake area. but the last 8 piece dinner i bought was terrible. the breading used to be light and tasty, now it is heavy, like they are trying to cover up smaller pieces of chicken, and greasy. i do not want to eat breading, i want to eat chicken. needless to say i will not be buying the fried chicken at gerbes anymore (and probably not the $100.00+ other items i bought when i came in for chicken) read more

Visited for groceries after Long day and a funeral. As the young lady was checking groceries she checked a $25.00 Xbox gift card! I said "stop" that's not mine. She said too late and sent me to customer service. So, while my ice cream is melting the CS person tells me they can't refund a gift card! Really, are you kidding? What do I, at 57 need with and Xbox gift car? Correct, absolutely nothing. Amazing they can't think out of the box, no pun intended. More to come! read more

This is the letter I sent to the Gerbe's corporate office on Sunday Nov. 22, 2020: Date: Sunday November 22, 2020...time was 12:10 pm. You have serious employee training problems in your Camdenton, Missouri location. First off...I have been shopping at this Gerbe's location for the past 18 years. Secondly....please keep in mind that I am 70 years old and I have worked in Customer Service for the past 46 years...so yes...after that amount of time I am an "expert" when it comes to dealing with people. I was checking out with several items...one of those items was a six-pack of Heineken Zero beer....I was told I had to show identification to purchase this beer. It contains zero alcohol....which is why it's called "Zero"... not .01%...not .02%... none... it's completely alcohol free. I thought at first the cashier believed it to be "normal" beer....she said she knew exactly what it was (very nastily).... and that I needed to show an I.D. Because the "system" required it. I explained to her that , while it might be a store policy it certainly wasn't the law and I invited her to call a police officer so we could discuss it...all of a sudden this person named "Destiny" came flying over from the next line and told me "that's our policy and if you don't like it you can leave and not come back"...think about that for a minute...her solution to the problem was to escalate the situation into an "either/or" response. This is the response of a very poorly trained employee who lets their emotions dictate their behavior. If "Destiny" cannot be re-trained properly then she needs to be dismissed and wished well in whatever her next endeavor might be...but she has no business interacting with the public....she was incredibly rude, unnecessarily confrontational, and embarrassingly ignorant. I decided to speak with the manager and as I was walking toward the customer service desk I noticed this same "Destiny" person FOLLOWED me over there and stood there and "eyeballed" me as I requested to speak with the manager. As the assistant manager was approaching, "Destiny" attempted to make contact her before she reached me....to her credit the assistant manager (Tracy) waived her off and addressed my concerns....however..."Destiny" stood about ten feet away and interrupted me several times trying to re-write the history of what happened...once again, to her credit, Tracy finally waved her away with a "that's enough" proclamation. Tracy...the assistant manager was a pro...I could tell that she paid attention during the seminar that teaches you how to deal with an unhappy customer...she showed concerned without being patronizing....she raised her eyebrows when I told her what happened and she admitted that the cashiers have an "override" button they could have used to counter what the system was telling them...but that's not what the situation was all about....the cashier and this "Destiny" person wanted to "win"...and they went out of their way to batter me into submitting to their will...and I didn't...so as I started the walk to the customer service counter they vocally berated me for not wearing a mask...I hope you can see exactly what was going on here with their desire to "win"... they were vicious and ruthless in their verbal attack...and they knew they were wrong...but they didn't care. And BTW....when it comes to showing an I.D....I am 70 years old....please keep that in mind here and recognize this was a case of elder abuse by your employees....they just saw an "old guy" and decided they could act however they wanted to act...with, evidently, no fear of any repercussions...this speaks volumes about the management/training situation at this store. Recommendations: 1. A thorough re-evaluation of the staff of this store....there are core problems at play here...starting off with a lack of plain old politeness...a complete re-training, starting with the basics, is in order. 2. A realization that, as consumers, we can buy non-perishable grocery items ANYWHERE these days....I can shop for cereal, potato chips, cake mixes, etc., at 2 a.m. in the morning if I want to...it's all readily available via the internet...and delivered right to my front door....We, as consumers, need a reason to shop at Gerbe's...all I received today was a reason to NEVER return....and to tell everyone I know just how horribly I was treated. 3. Speaking of treatment....you need to be nice to "old" people....we have more disposable income than a lot of other age groups...our buying power is pretty formidable....another reason why the staff at the Gerbe's location in Camdenton might want to actually court our business rather than telling us "if you don't like it you can leave and not come back." I use to LOVE this store but lately not so much, they eliminated their butcher counter! They had the nicest butchers and I enjoyed dealing with them. Now you have to push a button to get to talk to one and there is no meat counter. I guess I will go to Dierburgs instead. The butchers seem sad to be locked up in the back. I have been going here for a number of years because there is not much of a selection in Camdenton! Through the years the produce has really gone downhill. Numerous times they advertise certain produce on sale and then either don't have it or what is on the shelf is old. All summer I tried to buy cucumbers and every time they are old and mushy! It's not only this but several other things. The bakery is spotty, sometimes the items are fresh and other times it is old. Sunday morning went to get donuts from the bakery case and everything I bought was hard and old! We were very disappointed again! The deli is not even worth having, very limited choices in lunch meat and cheeses, they have no low sodium choices. The so called fresh salads are not good! And the fried chicken is gross! They could do so much better if they would step it up like the other stores in Osage Beach and Sunrise Beach and keep people in the area from going somewhere else! I have had to make the choice to drive 40 minutes now to go to another store! I will be going to Woods and Hy Vee from now on! If I'm looking to grab something quick, this is where I go. I love that they always have what I'm looking for and I don't have to walk through a giant super-center store to get it. The staff is always friendly at this location and very helpful. My husband craves their fried gizzards back by the deli/bakery department. This is a Kroger owned store. Has Kroger brands. Prices are reasonable and run good sale items. We drive a few miles from Osage Beach but like it so much better than Hy Vee or Walmart. Prices much better than Hy Vee. It's worth the drive. read more

I was in Gerbes Saturday, Sept 6 looking for some buns for meatball sandwiches. I located the bollilos but there was only one package....caught employee coming down the aisle and asked her and she showed me a display of them but then asked me if i wanted some freshly made bollilos... she bagged a dozen of them for me.
