My child attended Discovery Isle Oceanside for just two months, and that was two months too long…read more It took less than a month for me to realize I had made a huge mistake entrusting them with my son, who was only five months old at the time. When I first toured the school, the focus was entirely on how much I would be paying, what discounts I could get if I signed up immediately, and what payment method I would use. Not a single word about safety, cleanliness, curriculum, or care standards. Only money. I should have walked away then, but desperate for care, I enrolled him. I still carry guilt for that decision. The promises they make during enrollment, like daily photo updates and reports on feedings, naps, and diapers, are completely empty. Over two months, I received only seven photo updates. Daily reports were not sent during the day, only after pick-up, leaving me completely clueless about my son's well-being while he was there. The infant and toddler rooms are combined, creating a chaotic environment totally unsuitable for babies. My son routinely got only 8-12 minute naps for the entire day. When I asked for help working on his sleep, I was met with blank stares. Their nap policy is basically to wait until a baby accidentally falls asleep on the floor before moving them into a crib. Babies are often left crying on the floor or stuck between gates. I witnessed a teacher step on a baby's hand and saw firsthand how overwhelmed and exhausted the staff are. I even overheard a teacher gossiping to a new hire about how much she "hated" a child on the preschool side, setting a toxic tone for a child she had never even met. Illness spreads like wildfire in this place. Their sick policy is practically meaningless. Babies with green mucus, rashes, and other clear signs of illness are allowed to stay as long as they do not have a fever. They mishandled my son's breastmilk bottles, letting milk leak and go to waste. They regularly used the wrong size diapers, leaving him soaked and uncomfortable. Items clearly labeled with his name routinely went missing. AND THIS IS CRITICAL: at no point was I asked to provide my son's immunization records or a physician's report. In California, licensed daycare centers are legally required to verify and maintain up-to-date immunization records for every child upon enrollment. Discovery Isle Oceanside simply ignored this law. If they are failing basic legal requirements for safety, what else are they overlooking behind closed doors? When I raised concerns to the principal, I was ignored. The only time she responded was to demand 30 days' payment because I was withdrawing him. She had no interest in addressing the serious issues I raised. Only the money mattered. Maybe for older children this place barely scrapes by. But for infants, it is absolutely unsafe, unsanitary, and not worth the risk. Learn from my mistake and stay far, far away.

I have one in the toddler class and one in the infant class. The staff are not only well trained but genuine in their care for my kids. If there are days that my kids have a difficult drop off they will call me and let me know that they have calmed down and are doing an activity. This help with my anxiety of leaving them. The Montessori environment allows my kids to learn life skills and to be able to explore what interest them. They also have structured leaning such as going over certain letters, counting and color recognition. The director, Cheryl Gillins, has been amazing from the beginning. She has been extremely helpful and prompt with any paperwork I have needed while applying for childcare fee assistance. Both of my kids loves to say Hi and Bye to her every time we pass her office and she always takes the time to speak to them as well as myself. She is continually checking in with the teachers to ensure they have taken their breaks and a steps in to ensure the teacher to student ratio is always maintained. I can not say enough wonderful things about this daycare. I was very nervous about taking my kids to daycare, but they have taking the time to ensure both of my kids are well taken care of and they keep me informed. They use an app so that I can see how my kids are doing during the day and I can message them if I have any questions. My first child is non verbal autistic, so I'm only used to dealing with the special Ed part of public schools. This was my first time finding a school for my child who can understand things, learn academically, ECT. I know for a fact I am spelling her name wrong-but you pronounce the name as "Ms. Ken". When I dropped my daughter off for the first day of school, I absolutely fell in love with Ms Ken. And for the entire year, Ms. Ken has been the most amazing, most compassionate, most caring teacher I have ever experienced. My daughter has learned the alphabet, counting her numbers, about all kinds of animals, and SO much more, in just one year. She even came home one day and said all 12 months-i didn't even know she knew all her months!! I was shocked and SO proud of her! I feel like my daughter has blossomed in the one year she has been with peppertree. You can tell Ms Ken is so passionate about her job. I am SO happy that Ms. Ken was my daughter's first teacher experience she got to have for her first time going to any school ever. I am also so thankful that my daughter has learned the love of America at this school as well. She always has projects coloring red, white and blue stuff and she always gets excited saying "mom I drew the American flag colors today!". It is SO important for kids to learn love for their country at an early age, and you just never see that appreciation of America in public schools anymore, so that's oe thing I am SO grateful for. My child loves America and learns about America in Ms Kens class. I'm so happy about that. Ms Cheryl, the director is a ray of sunshine. We enrolled Jan 2023, first day he comes home, my child had scratches on his face, we get a OUCH report tell us of a mishap or injury occurred, this is the schools procedure to keep the parents informed. As days go by, we received DAILY injury reports, a scratch, a bite, a bruise, slowly the Boo-boo/ouch reports stopped, but the injuries continued, we asked for a meeting with the head teacher she informed us their care plans of Ratio to students will be smaller, and a better & closer supvision will be monitored, I informed the teacher if the roles were reversed and a child comes to school with unexplained injuries the school would probably call DCSF, I am concern ! Am I leaving my baby to be abused in a Christian school, the "stigma" sets in. It's a month later and my gut a roaring! trying to tell me something, today i hung out and for a good 10 mins and yes I am monitoring the time, there is NO teacher supervising the play ground, I discovered they are on side the bldg tucked away talking to a New Employee, today I observed six kids rough housing on the playground with injuries!, how many other children are being neglected. Enough is enough granted they are affordable but now I can understand why. I've taken a picture still debating to post, granted I can blur out the faces. I listen to my gut and pulled my son out, we NO Longer attends this daycare. Trust your instincts.

I am so glad we decided to send her to daycare instead because I can tell she has really thrived. She has learned many songs, words, manners, and to clean up her toys! The amount she has learned from being around other children is invaluable. She is only a young toddler, but when she gets home from school she excitedly tells me her friends names, or sometimes shows off art projects she made. It makes me feel good that I know she is somewhere that makes her happy and she is also learning. Not sure about the guy with the lead post below, and I honestly panicked a bit after seeing that. I did some research and looks like that was one faucet in the whole building, it has been placed out of order since finding that out, kids have a different water source now, and there is a new director since then. I have no concerns about my daughters safety while she is there. I fully trust the staff with my child's needs. It is conveniently located on almost the border of Vista and Oceanside, which works great for us.
