Granted, much of this vintage stock is designer and some of it is quite beautiful. Occasionally the staff here are willing to bring the prices down too, although even at Eva's discounted rate many of these dresses are priced far higher than I'm prepared to pay for second hand clothing. They used to have a Leichhardt contingent which sold the nicer of their dresses at far cheaper prices (I never really understood this) but now it seems that the two have merged into the one over priced shop. Come here for a nice glomesh purse - that is, after you've already checked Glebe and Rozelle markets.

Because new stock comes in every week, along with regular sales on already inexpensively priced clothing, Eva's Vintage beckons you back time and time again. Staff are warm and friendly and the shop is both beautifully laid out and spotlessly clean. Thoughtful touches in the spacious dressing room such as heating in winter and cooling in summer make trying on clothes pleasant and fun. Our SA was non-Asian but spoke Mandarin, which was very cool.

Biird has a great store configuration with the right hand side of the shop being fashion mostly for the infant - toddler girls. The boys clothing is accessed to the back of this section. To the back of the shop behind the cash register is the womens clothing. Prams and strollers can be easily pushed around in each section. This is one of the things I love about Biird is the product placement is clearly defined not jumbled together like your kid has just hurricaned through the shop and that one is able to wander around easily. Clovelly Road is a very busy street right up until the second roundabout where the 2nd block of shops are. It has some of the best bakeries, providores and of course Green Mango, Pasta Zu and Clodeli which are very popular eateries. Be savvy and use one of the side streets to park that has unlimited parking. For my little diva I purchase a couple of transeasonal pieces including a green Diesel layered dress and a beautiful cotton number from the brand Ouch. Biird also stocks Fred Bare, Gaia, Pure Baby Organic, Love Luck shoes and Baby Havaania's. The staff are incredibly helpful and having children of their own I trust their wisdom in their suggestions.

Situated just off Crown and a block or two from Oxford, this vintage store involves two levels of mens and womens vintage clothes and accessories, the bottom floor selling stock at sale prices. The dresses here are more expensive than you'll find at your average second hand/Salvos store, but not as pricey as you can expect from some of the city's spendy trendy vintage stores. I don't really mind paying that little bit extra for someone else to fish out the good from the bad for me, as long as I'm not paying over $100 for someone having a better eye than I. Zoo Vintage Emporium has a bunch of nice skirts and real fur shrugs and jackets and their racks of dresses come from an exciting variety of styles and decades, a nice change to the racks of same style different material dresses you get at some vintage stores. Zoo Vintage Emporium was a new find for me and I think it's my pick of this cluster. Also, the exciting descriptions on the tags of each item all but impel you to buy them. Wanna buy a "Summery fun lemon swing skirt"? When you put it like that, who wouldn't?!

One rainy afternoon in Newtown I was trying to pull myself away from the shops and get my little…read morebroke self home. Try as I might to beeline past Kisu, however, I found myself lured inside by the patterns and colors, like a mosquito to a nudist colony. Admittedly, I grow tired of seeing the same exact stuff in all the shops around the city. We all know there is no shortage of flowy mono-colored blouses or faux fur jackets. It is much more rare to find a shop that has unique inventory. Kisu, though it might not suit everyone, is certainly unique. Eccentric patchwork and embroidered garments are the norm here, and the owner designs mostly everything. There is a strong Asian influence, with some frocks that resemble kimonos. I tried on an electric green dress with an A-line hem and a sequin toucan on one side. I found it to drape strangely on me, which made me wonder if focus might be more on design than on fit. However, with most prices reduced about 50%, you can probably afford to go out on a limb and nab that statement piece that will truly have people talking.

I don't know about you but…read moreif I get caught in the rain without the right clothing my senses start working overtime and easily pick up on each window dressing that comes into focus. As I approached KISU a dark blue coat was in the doorway. The color was stunning but more than that was the execution. This was a well crafted coat! it was also a brave article with small embellishments like hand made buttons and topstitching to name a few that let anyone that cares about these things say "someone took their time with this!". When I then looked at the price I was flabbergasted. It was practically a give away. Log story short, I bough the jacket. The sales person was lovely and said that there were extra buttons that went with the coat but she didn't know where they were. I told her I was around and could come back tomorrow. Fast forward to showing up at the store and meeting one of the two owners - Adrien. He was very accommodating and got the buttons from a slew of buttons he and his wife had made. While he was gathering the right buttons, I found myself finding more reasons to shop more than leave. So, 10 items later I found 2 skirts and a dress that are now making my coat from the previous day part of a KISU family. Each item was unique and I was so pleased with the way the clothes fit me. I love these clothes. Wearing something that is well made makes me feel loved. From my conversation, I am not sure how long the storefront will remain where it is but I know they will continue to make thoughtful pieces of clothing. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood... you won't regret it.
