I LOVE THIS HIKE. Probably my favorite. You will climb, you will crawl a bit... you will walk! But the park did an amazing job to create sturdy ladders and such - it's not too hard. If you are very afraid of hikes/tight spaces, maybe this is not the hike for you. However, there are roundabout ways where you could avoid the harder trail At the peak, we ate snacks! Amazing views. It's 28 PP to park. Very expensive. If you go super super early, there is no charge hah (6am) since the peeps are not there yet. read more

LOVED this hike!!! It was SOOOO fun climbing stairs and rocks, crawling on rocks, and dodging rocks - felt like an obstacle course. The viewpoints and the view at the top were amazing - gave me foliage feels (ooooh fall, why are you so sexy?). The hike took about an hour and it wasn't too strenuous. However, I feel this hike is not advisable for small children (many opportunities to fall and hit head on rocks) or elderly with bad joints (lots of squatting). P.S. Be smarter than me, wear hiking boots. read more

This place was AWESOME! My fiance and I came here while visiting New Paltz and boy were we in for a treat. DO NOT DO THIS IF OUT OF SHAPE. Do not do it If you are clostaphobic. There are MANY tight spaces and lots of climbing to be done. You need to crawl, bend maneuver your body to make it across the rocks. The ending was the most exhilarating part! Took us about an hour or more to do the whole thing. One thing if you are a visitor (not local) they charge you 27$ per person!!! Hiwever when starting from the bottom parking lot you have about a mile and a half walk up to the gardens. From there you get to see everything SO BEAUTIFUL. After the garden the next stop is the LEMON SQUEEZE. But I got side tracked by the water and beauty of the mountains. All in all just follow the signs because the map they give you is SO COnfusing! We had a wonderful meal and time here. It says on the Google page that they don't accept reservations. When we got there and learned we had to wait because all the tables were reserved ( but empty), we weren't happy. We explained we read they don't accept reservations online. They made things right immediately and accommodated us. Piano player was great too- we had a wonderful night and will go again. Also lots of Gluten Free choices which I appreciated!! read more

It's an intense hike. Make sure you have enough water, food and that your footgear is not going to cause massive blisters. All three happened but still survived bc I'm hardcore like that. The views are spectacular! read more

The Lemon Squeeze - You walk several miles and then scramble over, under, through huge boulders and climb a wooden ladder vertically and squeeze out of this maw - Local Flavor Near Me

One of the best trails and probably also the most expensive one that I have ever been to in NY area. Fantastic view and fun trails! (Hands, crawls, and hiking boots required!) It takes 40mins-1hr to climb from the hotel to the tower if there is no line. But be aware of the traffic and plan accordingly on good weather days. Don't go over the excited when you saw the breath-taking sceneries! Don't go crazy and forget to secure yourself and your cell phone/camera when you taking pictures on the rims of rocks =) and don't let these scare you away! It was so much fun and so beautiful! As we climb higher, the plants change from high trees to low bushes. I could see further and further out and the rims of the mountains. Surrounded by all the green, the famous hotel sits next to an emerald green lake. We started from spring farm which is further and cheaper option to start from ($12). To get to the tower through all the fun rock crawling trails, it takes total hiking time of 4hours (~8.75miles). Rockrift trail (red) and labyrinth trail are highly recommended parts (both crawling through rocks!). You can take break/have lunch at the mohonk hotel or the picnic area. There is a nice lake, a flower garden next to the hotel that worth a visit too. read more

I have no words but amazing scenery. The forest, the resort, the lake, the trail, the hike collided in one and made a wonderful place. I am rating 5 star not just the Lemon Squeeze but also The Labyrinth trail and the Mohonk Mountain. For the hiking, scrambling, climbing, part. If you are a beginner hiker this will be tough for you, you may get some scratches and cuts if you aren't careful. If you are afraid of heights then it's going to be scary. If you are intermediate hiker this is fun and challenging for you and when you reach above you will be proud of yourself you did it. If you are a pro, it will take you only 30 minutes from bottom to top and will enjoy the amazing scenery above. I suggest before going there to make sure to wear a hiking shoes or boots. Long hiking pants and a small backpack or waist band for water. Other than that you don't need to bring anything else. It is going to be a hassle for you unless you are a pro. If you are staying in the resort, you will avoid the 2.7 miles hike to the beginning of the ascent. You can park in the resort otherwise the parking is 2.7 miles away but it's a nice easy hike. If you made it to the top don't forget to go to the top of the tower and take photos. It's beautiful. Pick a day where it's not a holiday so it won't be too many people. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It was a moderate hike for me as I have done harder hikes than this. I will definitely do it again. read more

I admit it is a little scary but worth it! There is some crawling,ducking& squeezing. However there is an easier route you can choose along lemon squeeze. Went with a group and it was a lot of fun! (There were even little kids doing it , don't get me wrong they were experienced little shits ). It does cost money , I forget how much but it's worth it . I packed a sandwich and plenty of waters. There's lots of different trails to choose from. The hotel is stunning . Beautiful lake with paddle boats . Just such beauty everywhere you look! read more

Lemon Squeeze!! This was a fun hike. The skill it takes to hike this is beginners level imo. If you are claustrophobic then you better go somewhere else. This hike is tight. You have to squeeze your way thru the boulders as this is why it's called Lemon Squeeze! The best time to hike this is the peak of fall season! When the leaves changes color it makes nature all more beautiful. There were a ton of people here when we started the hike it was a bit aggravating cause we had to wait to climb up the squeeze. If you are a heavy set person, you might as well turn around because you will not fit thru the small cracks! Good luck! read more

So intense, but well worth the hike! So, picture someone squeezing a lemon-now substitute yourself for the lemon and picture a steep jagged cliff edge with a ladder leading to the top of a narrow passage-there you have it! My friend Alida invited me to go with her and her boyfriend to climb through 'The Lemon Squeeze' in New Paltz, NY near the Mohonk Reserve. We had a wonderful time, but I'm glad we all made it through the tiny little rocky passageway, its namesake. We rented a car and Alida's boyfriend drove us up to New Paltz from Manhattan which took about 2 hours. We hung out in New Paltz the night before touring the hippy cafes and Alida's friends' homes and had so much fun I was worried we would not wake up in time to climb the mountain! The climb took about 5 hours (total) and culminated in a passage through a deep crevice and up a diagonal ladder through a narrow opening on a rocky ledge exposing a beautiful panorama of a mountain range to be determined. (Does anyone know what this mountain range is called?) I would go back and do this again for sure! read more

YOU CAN DO IT. I have to say this was very different then I expected. It was great. Make sure to wear hiking shoes, I have a cheap pair and they were fine. I would not attempt this if you are out of shape or very large, YOU MIGHT GET STUCK. There is s bailout zone a few minutes in so take it if you need it. Great views. A bit hairy at spots, but if you are athletic like me LOL, you will be fine. JUST DO IT. BTW. I went with my wife. It took us an hour to do, without her it would be a half hour. Great hike! It took us about 40 minutes to the top, as estimated by the sign. Some of the areas are very tight. Skip the packs, or use a small one. We completed it with two adults and two kids aged 9 and 7, and saw a 3 1/2 year old do it with a little assistance. Will do it again. The area (mountain house) and views are beautiful. Worth the family price we paid - $70 - for 2 adults and 2 kids. hiked around various trails for about 3 1/2 hours. The labyrinth was the best one though. read more

You get to climb ladders short and long, go Thur caves that you have to crawl in and the famous ladder at the end that takes you to the top. It very narrow and the ladder is very small. Even after my friend and I decided we would go for it, once we reached here after the Labyrinth, I kinda sorta wanted to turn around. Could I really drag my butt up the steep ladders? I'm not claustrophobic am I? Well, no turning back, there's no room! I prayed and said positive thoughts to myself in Spanish on my way up. But wow, how fun having accomplished it. Yes, I carried a normal backpack and had to hand it to the gal in front of me (Rosemary, u rock too!) who helped guide me in the final leg up. There is moisture so the rocks can be wet. Yes, you can't be too stocky to try this. And yes you can do it! Memorable experience and I'll be back! read more

I consider myself an intermediate hiker and this hike was at times challenging. I went with a lead who had done the hike 8 times before, and he gave me a hand in few places lifting me up. The view at top is amazing and totally worth it. I had a small backpack and it was not a good idea specially once we got to lemon squeeze. If you're afraid of heights or claustrophobic this hike is not for you. You'll need to climb ladders at many places. I enjoyed the challenge. read more

Went here and through the lemon squeeze. I am claustrophobic so the moment I was on level ground inside the cavern I started panicking. I ran to the exit to climb out, dropped my pack as it too tight and climbed up so fast all the time praying there wS no quake. Once I got to the top I lay flat down on the flat slan so afraid to move. Once I recovered from my beating heart I felt so proud I did it. It really gives you confidence. I read the other review by Ben T, and we definitely did the same climb, but there are multiple trails, and we took a shorter one back to the Mohonk Mountain House, and all had a terrific massage afterwards at the spa! Wonderful hike called "The Labyrinth" stretches 6 miles through crevasses, caves, and rocky gullies culminating in the lemon squeeze. Shawangunk Ridge is the name of the mountain range. At the top there is a small tower from which you get a spectacular panoramic view of 6 different states. Overall the hike, from the parking lot, up to the top and back is only about 3 hours, not sure of the pace of the other group that said it was five... Downside is if you aren't staying at the hotel already you have to walk about 3 miles just to the resort, and then the trail starts there. Daunting yet exhilerating, scenic and fun for all. Very strenuous and tests your athletic ability- bring lots of water. Not for the hefty and if you bring a backpack make sure it's smaller or it may not fit through the final squeeze. Springtime, around April, is the best time to go, or November. We went the day after Thanksgiving this year and it was absolutely delightful! Don't bring kids under around 10. read more
