This is very overdue, but I just wanted to take the time and share my outstanding experience here. I am blown away by the professionalism, quality, and cleanliness of the place. Another bonus is that it's so close to where I live, I could practically walk here, or run here (no joke)! And not to mention, near Jake's, which is a phenomenal breakfast/lunch please. They also give you a couple of cookie biscuits which are so good pre Covid. Plus everyone who works here is super friendly!! I asked for someone who specializes in blonde color, and got Jordan. From the moment I met I felt like I've known her forever She's extremely personable, kind, can talk about anything with you, and makes you feel at ease. Most importantly she's very caring and cares about the health and integrity of your hair! I was nervous to go all blonde again, as my hair is very dark. Plus I've been to so many salons in the area who end up making my hair this orangey color, when in fact I'm looking for an ashier look. Trust me, it's hard to find! But Jordan did a fabulous job and this was one of the most fun appointments I had! She has never failed to amaze me. I've been avoiding getting my hair cut for a while because the last three places I've been to really messed me up. Coming here, I was instantly so surprised by how nice the area was! The salon itself was very clean and cozy and everyone working there was so helpful and professional. My hairdresser listened to my requests and made sure to consult me along the way. Another salon cancelled my upcoming appt, and I had a work conference in florida around the corner, and had not had my hair dyed or cut in over ten months. I called here asking for a last minute appt and they got me right in. I saw Laura, who was such a sweetheart and really did an amazing job! I went in asking for my usual blonde balayage, but I had some green tinting in my hair from swimming in a pool a lot last summer, and Laura was worried that if she lightened my hair again it would cause damage. She suggested a reverse balayage, and going darker instead of lighter, and I am so thankful that I agreed to try her suggestion! I have always been a blonde, but now I am obsessed with my new brown hair! She cut off like 6 inches, and cut my hair both wet and dry... the color and style came out amazing. THE worst salon experience I have ever and will ever have. DO NOT go here to have your hair colored. This place truly RUINED my hair and it will never be the same. After a simple lightened brunette balayage request which took 4.5 hours, my entire head was orange. I called first thing the next morning and got in touch with the manager whom had me come in to have my hair darkened by a different stylist as she explained I would now have to go darker to get rid of all of the orange color and then they could work on lightening some pieces to look like what I originally wanted which, was essentially just a medium brunette with blended lighter face framing pieces (a pretty simple balayage request?). After I spent another 4 hours at the salon to have my hair darkened, I asked when they would be available for another appointment so I could achieve the hair I originally asked for, and more importantly, paid for. The manager acted taken back by this request despite it being her idea to have me come in to go darker so they could then go a bit lighter and back to my original shade of brunette with a few lightened pieces. I didn't want my hair black so I don't understand why she thought I would walk away after spending hundreds of dollars and nearly 10 hours for that? SO after receiving awkward pushback from her and going against her original explanation, she had me come in a THIRD time a few days later. Instead of just lightening up my hair a bit to achieve this yet again, SIMPLE look, she dyed my entire head BLONDE. Another 4 hours. SO, I went from my original brunette color with already lightened pieces which was extremely close to my inspiration picture, to ORANGE, to BLACK, to BLONDE. All by 3 different people within days. No one at this salon can do color and this experience made that absolutely crystal clear. When I saw that my hair was dyed blonde the THIRD time, I was in tears and said to the manager stylist "I don't understand. This is clearly so much lighter than what I wanted and showed you." And she got visibly angry, told me it was because I didn't understand balayage and that the BLONDE she gave me was "balayage". At that point I was exhausted and didn't want to be in that place another second so I left and never asked for it to be fixed further because that clearly wasn't possible for them to do. My hair is now SO damaged from being over processed which I never EVER struggled with prior to this experience and has had a terrible orange undertone ever since. I am still SHOCKED about this experience and hope if you're getting color that you look elsewhere or at least have a better experience than I did :( read more

Layanna has MAGIC HANDS! She is an artist when it comes to hair. So talented, and such a perfectionist that pays attention to the littlest details. She listens to what I have to say and gives great suggestions, and at the end my hair looks even better than what I had envisioned. I can't say enough about her! I never leave disappointed. I have been going to The Lift for almost 10 years now. I moved to DC in 2012, and I still wait until I am back in Massachusetts to get my hair done. I will not go anywhere else. I have tried, but nothing compares to the level of professionalism and skill that the stylists have at The Lift. I cannot recommend The Lift and Layanna enough! Go check her out! Not worth the high prices. I paid for a balayage and a haircut and what I got was chunky highlights and a haircut equivalent in quality to a $30 cut I could have gotten at the chopping block in amherst center. I won't be wasting my time and money there again. read more

I will start out by saying I've never been happier walking out of a salon. Olivia took the time to truly figure out what I wanted and continued to ask me questions throughout my appointment to make sure she got it just right. Although she had to start another clients hair while my color sat, she kept an eye on the other associates assisting and honestly gave me such a wonderful experience. My only complaint was the price I ended up paying was double the price I was quoted online for service I booked. Would have been nice to have that verbalized prior to the sticker shock. read more

I have been to this location for the Lift twice now and I absolutely love it! The first time I went it was shortly after they opened in this location and I went for the "chop" (aka. I went from very long hair to short hair) and the stylist I had was amazing and made me feel calm and confident in my choice! I just went back again today to add some more movement and interest to my hair. I felt comfortable enough to just let her what she felt was best and I absolutely love it! For someone like me The Lift looks like an intimidating salon: The staff are young and fashionable, and everyone looks perfectly coiffed. I am not one to spend much time/energy on my hair or looks, and I've never had hairdresser loyalty. Now, though, I recommend Meagh to anyone I hear talking about needing a haircut, even if they are a stranger sitting next to me at the coffee shop! Meagh helps you feel comfortable and spends as much time as is needed to get exactly the right cut/color for you. She can work with clients who are nervous or fickle very well. She is good at creating a short haircut that looks great with your face shape, and she handles curly as well as extremely thick hair deftly. Everyone I know who has gone to Meagh goes back to her, and recommends her to their friends. My mom even drives over an hour to have Meagh do her hair! If you're looking for a new hairdresser I am sure you'll be overjoyed with the results achieved by the infectiously energetic and highly skilled Meagh! read more

The hair stylist I went to is definitely talented, however, after two visits I did not get what I wanted. I understand color changes are difficult, however, twice my stylist said she could give me the hair I showed her in multiple pictures, and unfortunately my result was disappointing. Now, almost $500 later, my hair is something I'm not happy with. It's not even close to what I asked for. If the stylist hadn't told me she could do what I asked for, I think I'd be less frustrated. Ok. I had a cut and color here and was severely disappointed. The appointment started super late because the girl before me apparently had thicker hair than expected and ended up taking a super long time. I WISH they would have just cancelled this appointment. This was a serious appointment, we are talking I haven't dyed my hair in five years and I was cutting the hair down to my waist to above boob length. I was nervous and excited and saved up my $$$ for this apt since I don't normally treat myself. Super extravagant treat. Anyway, my stylist was half here- half there the entire time. She checked on me a couple of times but it was obvious her primary client was the girl before me who she was STILL working on. Long story short- I went in to go a few shades lighter and when I left the girl at the front desk said "oh wow you went darker!" I wanted to cry. The apt cost upwards of $300, and I was so so sad. The day ended up being so stressful. I waisted my time and money and because it was dyed, I had to wait several months to fix it. I will never, ever go back. If you choose to make an appointment, bite the bullet, get a giant coffee and book the very first appointment to ensure you will be cared for. If they seem busy CANCEL your appointment- they will try to squeeze you in and you will have sloppy-seconds hair, NOT what you deserve when making a statement hair change and spending big bucks.
