TLDR: service dog shaved to skin and now cannot properly perform duties thanks to groomers My friend's dog got shaved closed to the skin, with only the head spared from the shears. My friend brushed her dog out to make sure there weren't any matted clumps and I also checked through her dog and only found matted fur on his head. Which is ironic because that's the one place they didn't shave and actually did a good job cutting and brushing. It's almost like they realized it took too much effort when they were doing the head and just decided to shave the rest of the body. She was very clear to the groomers that they can't shave her dog because it will impede his ability to work as a service dog. The frustrating part was that they made her pay over $100 for it (which I know also covers the cost for bathing but the other part of the cost that covers the cut should be refunded for what happened). Her dog is a mobility aid service dog so he has a harness that fits him when he has a short/med cut. This is to ensure the harness is comfortable on him and is steady enough to support my friend. Not only is it now uncomfortable for him (harness is closer to skin and causing pinching), it is harder for my friend to get support from her dog. Overall this caused a lot of anxiety on the dog which has caused a lot of anxiety on my friend who care deeply for her dog, I'm leaving this review in her stead because though she is graceful enough to not being this up, I'm not. Amazing place! Reasonable price! I brought my dog here for the day and my dog, who is very anxious and insecure, was treated well and did an excellent job with an unfamiliar place. I suggested my dog get crated, if needed, but to my surprise, she didn't need to be crated and got to roam free. She can be particular with other dogs, but again, she did well because the owner made her feel safe. I don't like to leave reviews but this was a must. have taken my dog to this grooming salon 3 times in the last year. The first time, the owner (at least that's who she seemed to be) sat me down and asked questions about Belle (my dog). She was nice, so I trusted her to care for my fur baby. I liked how they styled her so I kept taking her back. That is until I took Belle for her regular grooming maintenance on Wednesday 1/24/2024, and picked her up with a swollen shut eye (photo included). I thought it was just a hair in her eye, so I let it go, hoping it would solve on its own. However, I picked her up at noon and her eye was still swollen shut for hours, so I took her to the vet where she was diagnosed with corneal ulcer. A common cause of a corneal ulcer, according to the VCA Animal Hospital website, is "...chemical burn of the cornea. This may happen when an irritating chemical or substance such as shampoo or drywall dust gets in the eye." [https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/corneal-ulcers-in-dogs] I called them asking if anything had happened during her service and explained the situation, and she said "It could be that shampoo fell in her eye." I went back to speak to the owner in person the next day because even the vet said they should pay for the costs of illness, but I was not demanding anything. I wanted the owner to know what happened and to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. The owner deflected responsibility the entire time, basically saying it was my dog's fault for squirming around and not staying still. I have been taking my dog to the groomers since she was a puppy, I have never received any complaints from any groomer. Yes, she does shake and have anxiety but that's normal. Plus, like I said I have taken her there at least 2 prior times and they never said anything to me, until now. She even said that if the dog doesn't let them do the service, they don't continue and call the owner letting them know. I was never called to pick up my dog because she wouldn't allow the service to be done. She got her hair cut. On top of not taking accountability, all I got was a pat on the shoulders saying "I'm sorry" not even a refund for the service which is the least she could have done. I just want to give you this information before deciding to take your dog here. read more

They were given specific instructions not to shave my King Charles .they were to only use scissors. I called back Friday when the dog got the botched haircut. They also cut all of her whiskers off. I spoke with the owner and he refused to make the situation right by refunding me. He told me it was a standard haircut fir the dog and it's standard to cut off the whiskers. The groomers made my dog look like a skeleton. My mom and I haven't been able to stop crying since picking my dog up from The Little Dog House. I would usually never leave a review like this, but I would never want this to happen to someone else. I had to leave my 8-month-old Maltipoo with my mom and her Australian Shepherd for a month while I went away to study abroad. This left his fur long, tangled, and matted. I did the responsible thing and went to get him groomed as soon as I could. Because I spend most of the year in New York, my usual groomer is there but I didn't want to make the problem worse, so my vet in California recommended The Little Dog House to me. When I dropped my dog off, I showed them pictures of how my dog typically looks after being groomed. Because of the tangled fur, they said they couldn't leave his body as long as usual but they would cut his face the same way. I asked them nicely to please not shave his fur or cut it to the skin. After 7 hours, my dog was ready to be picked up. My mom went to get him and said she was honestly speechless and trying to hold back years because of how terrible of a job the groomers had done. My dog's fur was shaved down to his skin and his face was a completely different shape. It was exactly the opposite of what we asked for. My dog is skinny already and looks incredibly sick with shaved down fur. I'm just so upset that the groomers would be comfortable returning a dog looking like this and would charge the customer for that terrible of a cut. I definitely wouldn't recommend The Little Dog House to anyone, but especially not anyone with a poodle or a poodle mix. I've attached pictures of my dog. I adopted my poodle from their attached rescue site a year ago so little dog house is near and dear to my heart. While the rescue is no longer open they always honored a discount price for former adopted dogs, I just love that. Service: everyone here is lovely. They are experts and know exactly what they are doing! My little boy always walked away with the most amazing poodle cut. And he smelled so so good! Took my small Shitz Tzu mix pup here for a haircut today and I'm pretty happy with the results. I saw some reviews so I was pretty skeptical but I am hard to impress with haircuts so I've been trying a lot in the area; Barbie pet salon, Omar's, Paws and Claws, etc. The reason for four stars is that they do not require immunization records and they do let pups roam free like a daycare while they wait to get picked up/groomed. I know there's a lot of kennel cough and other respiratory illness's going on because of communications with my vet and dioji. I'd say if your dog has never been to a daycare this could be overwhelming and you should definitely ask them to crate your pup (that is a option they offer on their website). The staff was sweet and all the dogs seemed comfortable hanging out (you can see them walking around). Because of the vaccine policy I will not be returning because I am a anxious dog mom with a older pup but that is personal preference! Thank you for the cute cut! read more

After a short visit and meet n greet with all the sweet doggies, we chose Lion, (or he chose us?) a sweet poodle and cocker spaniel mix. I just rescued a sweet girl, Bichon/Poodle mix. She was in desperate need of grooming. I was referred to The Little Dog House by my boss and his family. I called and had an appt that same day. When I arrived, there were dogs all over the front grooming area. They seemed to be very friendly, much friendlier than the staff at this point, since I stood at the counter while multiple people looked at me and said nothing. Finally the associate who was at the back of the front room, talking to a groomer, and had noticed me standing there for a couple of minutes, came over to assist me. Since I did not know much about my rescue, nor had I had a dog groomed before, I asked a few questions with answers that came with attitude. I asked that she be kenneled to avoid any further trauma to her, this was met with resistance and judgmental looks. The associate who took my rescue to put in a kennel was anything but nice. I was told this should only take about an hour and half to two hours. After 2 hours I called and was told she would be done in about 15 minutes. When I arrived the associate at the front, the same lady who checked me in, asked my dogs name, then told me the price, took my payment, retrieved my dog from the kennel and handed her to me. My first and last impression is either this young lady does not like her job, or she is ill suited to be working in this environment. My dog had to be shaved almost clear to her skin. Since I do not know much about grooming, I guessed it was because of how matted her hair was. I was told she was about 7 years old and had ear infections in both ears. I quickly got her to the vet and she is about 4 years old, and only had some slight irritation in one ear. I am not at all impressed with the level of care my new girl received or with the level of customer service. Apparently, after taking her there and talking with others, I found out the original owner has since retired and sold the company. Seems the quality of care and customer service have gone downhill from what I have been told. I will not be bringing my girl back here. read more

I brought my dog (husky/heeler mix) here for grooming the first time, and they did a great job trimming hair and with her nails. She started jumping the fence of our backyard fence so I started bring her here for daycare, and she was well loved while there. They only use electric sheets and my dog had completely uneven grooming with patches of undercoat visible and her genital area was irritated and red. She was miserable all afternoon. After having a nightmare with Petco when they couldn't handle our dog's anxiety about getting his first haircut, we were so afraid to bring him to anyone. But he was beginning to look so scruffy with a serious party in the back that we just HAD to take him in for a spa treatment. Cody is a smart dog and would hide under the bed if he saw us with scissors. But it became SOS when he got sprayed by a skunk and was getting dreadlocks in the booty area. I called another place in town and they said they only take small dogs (he's a shepherd mix about 65 pounds). Great. "E" was AMAZING!!! First, even though they're up to their eyeballs with dog grooming today, they fit Cody in. Next, she thanked ME for bringing Cody, told me how great he's been and no problem with all the dogs hanging out together (like a good babysitter tells the parents!). This was music to my ears. E didn't make me feel like a bad dog owner, was kind, non-judgmental, and understanding. You can tell E absolutely loves dogs and enjoys her business. SO glad I swallowed my pride and brought Cody to The Little Dog House. Now we can keep Cody looking gorgeous and we don't have to worry about not only Cody, but also us, getting traumatized.
