So I finally made it to try out this little cafe in one of my favourite Brissy suburbs (New Farm). Food is pretty good, but nothing spectacular. I believe the menu is quite typical of any other cafe. The coffee was pretty average as well. My meal was pretty much a big breakfast with bread, bacon, eggs, sausages, potato, mushrooms and tomatoes (you can't go wrong with that combination; a very satisfying breakfast). The staff in general are pretty nice and very helpful (except for this one guy who can get slightly rude especially when dealing with potential customers without a booking and looking for a table, probably the same person referred to by @Lachlan W). The set up is casual and comfortable, music is a tad loud, but overall it's a good place to catch up for a lazy weekend brunch with friends (or well that's what we did). And as noted by quite a few people already, this place is crazy busy (we waited for 30 minutes for a table) so booking in advance or allowing extra time is advisable. read more

I headed to Little Larder for a lazy Sunday brunch and was not disappointed! For me, I take restaurants that serve breakfast well into the afternoon, as a message that it's okay to sleep in until noon on the weekends... now that's my kind of breakfast joint! I ordered the Huntsman Benny with pulled pork, loaded with hollandaise and runny eggs. It was hearty meal.. just what I needed. The little larder was an interesting experience. The concept is great with interesting breakfast options and fresh juices however it just doesn't quite hit the nail on the head. There is limited seating, as a large group arriving when the venue was almost empty we were only able to sit in one table inside which was very loud due to the juicer and smoothie maker running almost constantly. The outdoor seating had little sun protection for morning rays with most tables being in the sun. The menu items all sounded interesting however the flavors at times were not quite bold enough (the chili was quite mild) and items not being cooked quite right. We had asked specifically for very soft eggs however they came out fairly hard and the polenta was served in a too large piece that regulated in the centre being very soft and not quite delicious. The cafe was very busy and items did end up taking their time and we didn't get all out dishes at the same time. I hope that The larder finds its feet to be able to provide quality service and food items. read more

Sooooo disappointed. Have driven past this little cafe so many times in the past and always wanted a chance to try it. And now that I have, I'll never go back again. Their "seasonal fruit salad with honey, cinnamon yoghurt and chia seeds" for $12 was actually a plate full of baby spinach leaves, a couple of halved cherry tomatoes, and a few slices of fruit, drizzled with some sort of balsamic strawberry syrup and dusted with icing sugar. No honey, cinnamon yoghurt or chia seeds in sight. Needless to say, the balsamic drizzle and icing sugar didn't go well with the baby spinach or tomato. The cheese and tomato toastie "with salt and pepper please" was 2 slices of supermarket white bread, a slice of bright orange plastic cheese, and a few slices of tomato (cold), with no salt and pepper. The chai latte was lukewarm at best. My daughter didn't want to complain about her fruit salad and had struggled through half of it but pretty much given up when they told us they were closing so could we please settle the bill. When I queried the price of the fruit salad being $12 when it was clearly not the one advertised on the board, they still charged us full price, but brought out a tiny pot of yoghurt with honey on top...... Gee.... Thanks..... wasn't worth complaining since the the waiter clearly didn't understand enough English to get it. I'm guessing they had so many excellent reviews in the past that all the more recent bad reviews haven't yet made a big impact on their overall ratings. read more

Little Larder has become so popular that I think it's effected this review. The food is great, the coffee is solid, but the wait time and the comfort that having a slow Sunday morning breakfast brings has all but evaporated. Those of you fortunate enough to get one of 6 tables feel the many people's eyes on you as you eat. I'm sure they're saying,. 'hurry up.. eat you fat bastard.. EAT" Could it be a crippling case of my own paranoia, perhaps, but a busy cafe is only good for the owners, not the patrons. The pricing is a little high compared to the other cafes in the area (though, Vue, in New Farm isn't way higher priced). All in all, try and score a breakky on a weekday, and avoid it on weekends if you can. Otherwise, it's a brilliant little cafe and one that I cherish - when I can get a seat. read more

A new farm favourite off the beaten track. This place has character, is self proclaimed "Walken friendly" and there was even a free range chook from one of the neighbors who paid us a visit. Okay.... Now I think breakfast could be one of my favorite meals... if of course it's at this amazing place! A friend of mine introduced me to this place and he couldn't stop talking about how it's one of his favorite places. He really set the bar high, and I was almost uncertain if it actually matched up. The restaurant is a quaint place where it's a mixture of hipster, rustic, and classy all in one but of course all very casual. We were quite lucky as we just missed the peak hour and were able to sit at the corner table with bench seating. The waiter was quite attentive as he quickly gave us a jug of water and took our order almost immediately. I remember the menu being very simplistic, but not in a bad way. It was easy to look at the options and see what really jumped out to you. For me, that special dish was the smoked salmon breakfast plate with poached eggs. I am guilty that while being in Australia, I've learned to obsess with poached eggs and will sometimes never eat any other type! The plate was quite large as it came with 2 slices of bread, a generous amount of smoked salmon, 2 poached eggs, potatoes, and chorizo. Can I just say WOW! I usually find breakfast items overpriced or overrated but the Little Larder definitely surprised me. read more

The Little Larder is brunch stop extraordinaire. I like the location which is tucked away on Moray. It has a nice chill vibe although in gets pretty packed and is a bit hot and noisy inside sometimes. The coffee is strong and decent, and the menu is pretty special. I hadn't been to the Little Larder in years, but we decided to venture a bit further afield than usual for brunch on Sunday and I remembered this place, so we thought we'd give it a try now and see how it's held up. It was BUSY. We had to wait about 5 minutes for a table, but the staff were friendly and seated us as soon as they could. We were seated outside and this meant we got to hang out with the random hen that was wandering around pecking at dropped bits of food. It was a very well fed hen! Service was prompt although they were clearly run off their feet, and the coffees came out in a reasonable time. The menu had some really delicious sounding things on it and I had a hard time deciding, but in the end went for fried polenta with mushrooms, poached eggs, and avocado. We were warned that there would be about a 20 minute wait on food, which seemed fair enough to me, but I'm pretty sure we got our meals quicker than that. One thing I get a bit wary about in a super busy cafe is a potential drop in the quality of the meals, but this wasn't the case here - my breakfast was DELICIOUS. I cleaned my plate and I will be back again to try the rest of the menu! read more

yay- yelp has hit down under!!! I heart LL- came here every Sunday with friends (post running the Brisbane river loop and Kangaroo point stairs). Make a booking if you can for weekend brunch (they book out QUICK) . I love the coffee- I often have 2, even if they are served in cups as big as your head. During the summer of 2006, I lived directly across the road from the Little Larder. There was barely an occasion where I was able to walk out my front door and not be seduced by the smell of coffee, the sound of happily clinking cutlery, and the incredibly attractive wait staff who really seemed to be subtlely beckoning me to come and visit a while. What's more is that the Little Larder is tucked away in one of the nicer residential streets in New Farm, and going there used to feel a bit like you were onto a secret that not many others knew about. It's five years on now, and the Little Larder, that 'secret little cafe' has become one of the major hot cafe spots of New Farm. While you now have to share the space with an army of wealthy, cosmopolitan types, trendy young families and generally appealing looking swathes of people who now call the Little Larder their local, most of the important things have stayed the same. The Little Larder believes that coffee should come strong and in large quantities, so you rarely find yourself wanting for more when you get to the bottom of the cup. If you don't feel like coffee, the good folk at the Little Larder also offer freshly made juice, which always gets my vote of approval, as when you have to endure a Brisbane summer, an ice cold custom designed juice is close to best thing you can get your hands on. Then there's breakfast. I'm going to go ahead and say it- the chefs at the Little Larder are feeders. It's obvious that they try to make their customers fat and happy with every meal. They'll get away with it too; the chefs after all are obviously foodies, into explosive combinations of flavour, large quantities, and sexy presentation. Who can say no? I'll tell you this for nought- not many. Especially not me. This is why it's necessary to book on a weekend, and possibly even on some weekdays. Don't miss out. I'll throw this in for free too- try the crispy polenta for breakfast, I promise you won't be disappointed. Coffee and breakfast will on average cost you between $20- $30. read more

This place is pretty well reviewed - and for good reason - but I wanted to add my 2 cents. What everybody else says is correct, it's tiny, bloody popular for good reason and the wait staff are sassy and attentive. What I came here to add is how accommodating they are of requests. I was swayed by their bruschetta with added haloumi but as it was breakfast I requested a poached egg as well. Perfectly soft egg yolk over crunchy bread, super fresh onion / tomato / balsamic topping with bubbling haloumi was perfect - and the wait staff then said he was having one for lunch. Sure, he was probably just flirting for tips but I don't mind. read more

The food here was great. The service was friendly. The wait time was ridiculous. It took about 45 minutes to come out with some Kale chips and 4 burgers. They were Extremely delicious, but that wait time was insane - they were also not particularly busy, maybe only half full, so I'd be horrified to learn how slow it gets when they are full. read more

Oh, little larder. You make me somewhat happy. I really do love me some roasted mushrooms and you delivered me a perfect breakfast. Serving size was crazy large and I could not have finished no matter how hard I tried. I was dying from the flu this day and your coffee was so strong it was the only thing I had tasted in about 4 days. I will be forever grateful for that. Fresh squeezed juice was delicious but wasn't cold so it was a tad awkward to drink. Service was alright but nothing to write home about. Would I make a special trip to go back? Probably not. Little Larder is a little off the beaten track of breakfast cafes in New Farm, but it's teeming with customers almost all the time. This is a testament to the food, service, and atmosphere of the place, which all get a big tick from me. The savoury mince is a personal breakfast favourite, and there are some delicious sandwiches and pastas available for lunch as well as the spectacular looking home made pies. The coffee is excellent, so even if you're not after a feed, stop by for a takeaway before a walk along the river. There are limited bookings, and be prepared for a wait if you're planning on just turning up. There are also only a few small tables and a lot of the time couples and small groups can end up sharing the big tables with others. read more

I live really close to this hipster joint and agree that the food is quite tasty. Their juices are fresh and make you feel healthy, their people and patrons are fun to watch, their coffee is awesome (and cheap), and their food satisfies my cravings just peachily. I recommend the caesar salad which is a giant heap of creamy greens with a self-yolking fried egg perched atop. If you're lucky, you may also find a picked garlic somewhere in there. read more

The Little Larder is a really popular cafe in New Farm however on the occasions I've visited I've just felt underwhelmed. I think the main reason is that the food has just been ok - a bit slap dash and lacking in a bit of love. Once I tried the big breakfast and the eggs were watery, the bread was not fresh and the whole dish was quite cold when it hit the table. I can see that people may be go there for the fun busy local cafe experience but that's not enough for me. read more

DON'T TRUST THE MAGAZINE REVIEWS!!! I was so hungry walking in... so, so hungry. Latte: cold. Really cold. someone must've had the milk sitting around from the last order and thought it would be ok. It wasn't. I ordered a poached egg on sourdough with bacon and paid extra for the hashbrowns. Poached Egg: completely cooked through. Zero runny bits. mildly warm Sourdough: Not sourdough. Thick cut white bread with zero taste or crumb Bacon: undercooked. Like, seriously thought about the probability of contracting trichinosis. So much fat, half the volume just sat on my plate. Hasbrown: Not hashbrowns. they are the frozen square composites you buy 15 for $2 in the frozen food section. Deep fried until zero moisture is left and you're stuck with a puck. Garnish: fried tomato. I hate tomatoes. This was the only thing with flavor and was actually edible. Run, Run, Run, Run.... this place is a joke. I don't know how anyone eats here. I've been wanting to try Little Larder forever, since before I moved overseas even. No matter what day of the week I walk past this place, it is ALWAYS busy. We went in at about 11 for a late brunch. One of the waitresses came out and gave every one in line a business card and reminded us that they do take reservations (something I have mentally noted now, because sometimes you do need a brunch reservation!). All up we waited about ten minutes for a table. They served us straight away and took our coffee orders. The coffee came over about five minutes later (earning huge brownie points from me. Don't stand between me and coffee on a Sunday, you may lose an arm!) They took our food orders and the food came super quick! Sometimes when you see a busy place you think to yourself, "If I go in there I will wait forever for food". Well rest assured, this is not the case with LL! I had the Savory Mince (I may have had a bit of a hangover) and my partner had the french toast. Both were delicious, generous portions. Oh and the Wait Staff are awesome here. They're all bopping around, happy to be at work. Overall, I can't really fault it and will be coming back for more! read more

i once ordered muesli here. my friend ordered the poached eggs on polenta with avocado and dill mayo. i remember the day as it was the first real meal i'd eaten after travelling bus planes taxis trains walking for 48 hours. i remember thinking, 'who orders muesli in the face of polenta and perfectly poached eggs! schmuck!' i made sure to order it next time, it didn't disappoint. it did arrive forty minutes after i ordered and about ten minutes after my friend finished their corn cakes, tasty, but the coffees where free and the staff where nice. i wouldn't wait for a table though weekdays are best. the muesli was ok, but it came with minimal yoghurt and milk to compensate for this lack of yoghurt? i don't know. read more

5 Stars! We're regulars here and they've never let us down. The food is amazing and the staff friendly and accommodating. This mornings breakfast was great and even though they were really busy because of the public holiday our food was served quickly and with a smile. The wait staff are great to deal with.
