After having brunch near by we wanted to grab some drinks so we decided to come inside. Cute little bar, glad it was not packed so we were able to grab a table. Drinks I went with the Brooklyn larger beer good option can't go wrong. Friends had Miller light & Austin's dry cider not bad. The Little Whiskey is a great neighborhood bar in Bushwick. This was my first time visiting, but it felt like I've been going there for years. The bartender Alan, and the owner Ryan are super laid back, and make everyone feel at home. We came on St. Patty's day, and quite surprisingly it wasn't a crazy crowd. We ordered a bunch of drinks and had a great time mingling with everyone. The Little Whiskey also serves up some tasty grilled cheese sandwiches to fill all those drunken cravings. So typically our group goes to a different bar pretty much right next door to this one but last night we couldn't get in without a cover so we decided to give this place a shot. I am very glad we did. The lighting is this very cool dim red, giving the whole place this warm neon glow. The drinks, while very pricey in comparison, were well made and delicious. The things that really made the difference for us: The bouncer is really nice and has a super interesting personality, and he is very fun to engage with throughout the night. Last night the playlist was awesome and while many of the songs where not related by genre they were exactly what we needed to hear, and we showed it by singing along at our table. The best part was we were not alone in this, as the man next to us, the bouncer, and the bartender joined us at several points across the evening. Also, we had a blast playing jenga at our table, and learned that we all get competitive a few drinks in. What a good way to start our night! read more

I really like this bar I took my brother here before we headed to a concert for some Eagle Rare on the rocks he was in heaven...the doorman was the coolest and even grabbed an extra chair for us when their were only 2 definitely left us with a great first impression. It's a bar. Why all the hate? You don't like the beer and the shot price here, go elsewhere! They have cheap-ish beer, they have a huge liquor selection, and they have grilled cheese! Brooklyn. A place that screams culture and discretion, surprisingly for most, I have called this place where I live over a decade, home and comfort, has exceeded my expectations. I have been to many places in Brooklyn and it has been nothing more than accommodating and brings out the joy of life, in unity of soul and spirit. Disgustingly to say, the joy that I felt about Brooklyn has been turned around to depression and hostility in my final hours in The Little Whiskey. We walked in around 2:10 am on a Saturday night, during the robust peak hours of the city that never sleeps and all was fulfilling. Drinks, nice bartender, chattering, laughing, and sharing stories of our mundane lives with contempt and satisfaction. 3:45 am arrives and the bouncer came over to our table with an attitude in a hasty tone of voice that , "We are closing in fifteen minutes, this is the last call.". Understanding that tone of voice as well as the need to abide by the law of the 4:00 am cut off period on alcohol, we ordered our final drink. This is when things get awkward. After we ordered our final drinks I personally decided to go outside and have a cigarette to satisfy my despicable addiction. As I made my way to the door, three more guests asked to come in, and the bouncer agreed. I came back and noticed that our drinks were at the table. So, I sat down and looked forward to finish my final drink of the night. Took two sips of my tequila with lime and grapefruit, then the bouncer rushed over with haste, not ask, but demanded us to leave. I replied, "But, at least allow us to finish the drink that we ordered.". He replied with authority, "Don't argue with me. No! you must leave right now!.". I answered, " But our drinks just arrived, at least let us finish our drinks.". He refused to hear us nor contemplate on the situation and kicked us out in a rude manner. My party and I may not be the perfect patrons, but we are certainly polite and easy going. Being in the service industry for over a decade in NYC perhaps what should be done is to do last call earlier than fifteen minutes prior to closing instead of demanding your patrons to leave. We feel robbed, mistreated, and tricked into ordering our last drinks only to get kicked out before we could finish. Furthermore, as we left, there were still people at the bar including the people that the bouncer let in around 3:45 am. So, whats that about? Deducted from this experience, it's an unfair treatment with rude bouncer, selective, and money grabbing at the final hours of The Little Whiskey. I apologize for the cynicism, however, what happened here tonight explains itself by the business practice they enforce. I'd personally refrain from coming here towards the end of the night, and save yourself from hostility. We all deserve better. read more

As someone who watches Sunday football, I'm happy to finally have a good bar in Bushwick to watch the games without having to travel more than 5 blocks. I love the bartenders here (and at their other locations) and love that they're willing to put on the Lions games for me if no one else minds. Good whiskey selection, too! I've only been hanging around the neighborhood since 2007/2008 so I'm not a life-long Bushwick resident but it seems that all the bad reviews are coming from people who are butthurt over Cain's Tavern. Man, the people who are so against the change in the area are going to hate me! The wife and I just moved into the area, and stumbled in here on our way home from dinner. So glad we did! Service was awesome and the bartender (Ryan? Brian?) was really awesome and talked up some great whiskeys I had never even heard of before! I loved the decor and the juke box! Ryan/Brian didn't even mind me playing half of one Faith No More album. This place definitely welcomed us into the area, and we will definitely be back, as we have found our new local. The issue with all these reviews is that they are just that. Reviews. It's a f@*king bar in Bushwick. If you are writing reviews, you are part of the problem I.e. Gentrification. Having only lived in this same space for 4 years, I cant say that I am the best person to judge the life of the neighborhood. But, when the bartender greats you by name after only short visit, I pay attention. So #%!^ off you self-righteous pricks. The space isn't great, but what original building space around here is? So here's why my review remains at 1 (because yelp doesn't offer 0) I walked in on a Saturday night and was greeted with Taylor Swift BLASTING. I recall some time ago when the first Whiskey opened it was a "Rock Bar" last i checked top 40 doesn't really play in a"rock bar". to close I was so annoyed at the music I couldn't in stand and wait for a $10 beer and shot. and this brings me back to my original post: Why don't they just open a whiskey in Murray Hill? It's not going to do well. Especially since everyone in the bar/restaurant industry knows that one of the owners does in fact own that building and he was the one to raise the rent 500% when Cain's lease ended. (It's not a fictional number) That doesn't sit very well with the folks that live here...at all. We all remember Williamsburg fondly but the truth is they had a huge role in turning Williamsburg into the "Ventricle of Douche" which I've stated in my Whiskey Bk review. Allen is seriously one of the best bartenders I have ever had. I moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and he has helped make it feel like home more than anyone else. He makes it a point to remember someone's name and drink of choice. Always smiles in a genuine way and engages in meaningful convo, not just in the "buy more drinks from me" way that bartenders do. As someone who worked in the bartending industry for years, I'd say he is the top of the top. 10/10 recommend this place and specifically him :) read more

Jesus Christ people are harsh. Just moved to the neighborhood and have been trying it the local bars. This one might be my favorite! It's definitely a go-to and the bartenders are pretty chill. I don't get that bro vibe what so ever. What the hell are people talking about? No popped collars. No pink shorts. There are a couple of regulars I've chatted with that seem so down to earth. Carl and Ash are super welcoming too. Ash makes the jokes and popcorn. Carl made me a funny "reserved" sign for my usual corner seat haha. They're great! Also all the grilled cheeses are pretty awesome too. I was here last Saturday in the afternoon with three friends after brunch and really liked it. The bartender, Justin, introduced himself to each of us & then called us by name the rest of the time we were there. He was really personable and it was nice chatting with him about the weekend, etc. My friends and I indulged in the free popcorn and played some games using cards at the bar. People new to the neighborhood won't care, but the shady owners are teamed up with Cayuga Mgmnt who raised the rent 500% on the beloved Cain's Tavern, and just took over- and now their friends are writing reviews about how butthurt the hipsters are, this is a cool spot and haters should should just get over it. Total garbage. Yes, neighborhoods change. This is NYC. But they don't have to change for the worse. Did you really move to Bushwick for a bro bar? I moved from Bushwick this past March and happen to be in the neighborhood a few days ago when I walked past this place. Thinking that the bar that used to be there had changed its facade, I stopped in for a drink and to say hello to the always friendly bartenders. Bad choice. It was nothing like the bar that it took the place of, aside from not changing the decor besides adding some headache inducing neon lights. Tvs too big for the space made it feel like I was in another lacrosse bro fake sports bar, and I like sports. I don't like sports bars that pretend to be something they aren't. This place just confirms that my choice to move from Bushwick was the correct one. If this is what Bushwick is becoming everyone better start running. $10 shot and beers replaced $5 shots and beers. Bartenders with "staff" t shirts replaced bartenders that knew you by name. Good job CCM (the owners of the building and bar). Living in Greenpoint, I'm not very familiar with the Bushwick nightlife scene. So when a few friends asked me to come out to their hood for drinks, I was open to explore! Unfortunately, this place was such a disappointment. Overpriced (with nothing special to offer), an off-putting, young, rowdy and shockingly bro-oriented crowd (which is a theme I see in other reviews on here), and a bartender that seemed very interested in doing everything except bartending. With so many bars in Brooklyn, I just don't see why anybody would choose this spot. After one cheaply poured drink, the 3 of us all agreed to get out of there as soon as we could. Honestly, we walked a few blocks down the road and found a great quaint little cocktail bar that was everything the The Little Whiskey wasn't....a good time. This was once a beloved local watering hole named Cain's Tavern, and is now an over-priced, bro bar chain. How did it become that way? The owners of the building also own The Little Whiskey, and jacked the rent up on the old bar by 500% to push them out once Bushwick became trendy enough to support a shitty sports bar. I went to The Shity Whisky on Friday night. I was busting to drain my bladder and spend a bit of time here but the anal retentive barman said "sorry, it's for customers only." I glanced round the bar at the only two customers and said I am a customer. I've been here before and I want to order a drink. And there were two customers drinking the cheapest beer for some reason. I offered to buy a drink and said i'll take it on the road if you dont mind. Yet the twat still wouldn't budge and he declined. I offered to pay a handsome tip. But he still declined. It looks like a great bar inside and the beers are probably nice too. But such a simple arrogant move spawned the rep of this bar in the Bushwick community now known as "The Shity Whisky" yes the Shity part is a lack of chilled out laid back customer service. I'll never go again. I'll tell everyone in the vicinity to steer clear. And I'll repeat that to you my friend.
