Then there's the refusal to get wifi for customers. I've gone in once every 5-6 months to ask if they have wifi so I can work in there, it's nice to work in a coffee shop where you can get drinks and snacks from them for a few hours, but they refuse. Every single time I've gone in for the past 2 years they say, "oh, the wifi is down"...just say you don't want to pay for wifi for your customers. As much as I want to support local small business over chains, at least the chain coffee shops are clean and have working wifi. If a store is this dirty to the customers eye, I don't trust the machines and food storage. I am done trying to support them.

The woman who rang up my two bottles of wine at this Kroger called me "darling" no fewer than five times during our four-minute interaction, and I loved it. As if we were continuing a conversation we had left off earlier, she also jumped into the middle of a story about a man who was looking for tomato sauce. I didn't follow but just went with it all. By the time I left the grocery store, gripping a bottle of red in each hand like a wino, I felt like I had gained a friend in Wheeling. My Kroger visit happened because I tried to visit a wine store in downtown Wheeling that didn't actually exist. Undeterred, I stopped into Kroger to see what was what in the wine section. They were actually having a huge sale, with many good bottles under $10, so I grabbed a Malbec and a Cabernet. The sale was so good that I wanted to go back and grab a few more bottles, but I resisted. I was visiting from out of town, and there's only so much room in the car for wine. This Kroger is a little hidden from the road, and you need to make some turns to get into the parking lot. But once you get to it, it's a nice little Kroger with nice people.

I deal with the crew there on a daily basis, and I can honestly say I've never had a rude encounter. Every employee is helpful, respectful, and works hard under pressure. Today, a young man named Avery went out of his way to help me out big time, and I really appreciated it. The whole team deserves recognition, and a lot of credit goes to the manager, Pat. He runs a tight ship and clearly leads by example. It shows in the attitude and work ethic of the entire crew. In a time when good customer service can be hard to find, this store consistently gets it right. Thank you all for the hard work -- it truly doesn't go unnoticed. ---

This is a full-service coffee shop, but I think these guys also make charcuterie boards and plan personal picnics and rent out the space above their store. They do a lot of stuff! I can only speak to the beverages they sling at the coffee shop, though. The menu is written on a big chalkboard that's located across from the register. They make all of the usual coffee favorites, like lattes and cappuccinos. They also have specialty drinks, like drinks with matcha and bee pollen in them. Fancy! My iced tea, black and not at all fancy, was great and refreshing. Table 304 has an understated storefront. I walked right by it, at first! Maybe it's a "if you know, you know" kind of joint. Once inside, though, the place is cozy and inviting, with couches and lots of tables where you can sit and work. I wasn't there very long, though -- just enough time to order, scope out the place, get my drink and be on my way.

I'm helpless to a fried hand pie. And they had banana cream hand pies! That's what initially drew me in. But in the end, I made an audible and changed my order to a blackberry hand pie at the last second. The blackberry hand pie was a great choice. I am a jam lover. Give me jam with a base like buttery crust or shortbread or something like that, and I am in heaven. The hand pie had just enough jammy blackberry in it, with a glazed tender crust. Lovely. We also got a Boston cream hand pie. (Wow, does that one sound vulgar!) That one was good, too. Sounds indecent, tastes great, with a nice coating of chocolate on the outside. American Pies and Pastries sells several flavors of hand pies -- the ones I mentioned, but also apple, cherry, blueberry, strawberry, lemon, chocolate, coconut cream, and Buckeye (chocolate peanut butter).
