My wife and I chose this place for our last dinner in London before heading back home to DFW. I had read about this restaurant in some top 10 lists for foodies visiting London and was dying to check it out. First, it's not in the busy part of London where you would expect a restaurant of this caliber to be but rather it is in a very blue-collar neighborhood on the south side of London. It is a VERY cozy place with only seven tables but that is how they keep the quality and experience so great. The decor is as if you are on an old fishing ship. Reservations are highly recommended but we got there right when they opened (7pm) and thankfully they let us have a table. After being seated the hostess showed us the days specials and they ranged from fantastic scallops to lobster with every choice as good as the last. My wife and I chose the Chef's Choice 8 course dinner. The dinner comprised of a delicious sardine sandwich followed by a fillet of night perch which was then followed by lobster that melted in your mouth. Then we had a pallet cleanser of a light peach sorbet with a shot of vodka poured over it. The meal resumed with a grilled piece of pork belly (I got the "meat" choice) while my wife had a grilled hallibut (she got the "fish" choice). The next course was a warmed cheese (I believe it was gruyere) in pastry accompanied by a small mixed green salad with aged balsamic. The dessert courses were a delicious crepe with creme bruille filling and the end course was a pear puree along with a chocolate pudding with a hint of mint. We loved this place even though the name sort of threw us off at first. When you hear "The Lobster Pot" I imagine a bunch of seniors getting off a day-tour bus to a casino at a truck stop or something but this experience was far from what I first imagined. Don't arrive early or you'll be sorrier than a cracked crustacean's claw. Kitsch sticky menus needed a bit of explanation and if the menus change regularly (no oysters , but I'd rather they'd be off the menu than off in my stomach) then perhaps daily printed menus would work. A delightfully decorative place complete with seagulls singing sea shanty classics on loop. Terrified but glorious goldfish adorning the cabin window walls, really every maritime detail had been thought of, even staff in cabin costumes, it was as cheesy as the lobster Thermidor. So fun. I loved being bibbed up too, I like knowing things are gonna get messy. The Meli, a melee of seafood; half lobster, sea bass, spicy grilled perch, razor clam (touch over done), squid kebab (could've been flavoured more) but all in a sea of buttery champagne and avruga sauce. No tide could hold me back from wanting to lick my plate or use this as a moisturiser, oh my golly so delicious. It came served with enough perfectly cooked veg that my mother would approve of too. Soft butter, less surprise from the proprietor at our arrival and this place would have had a perfect score. Overall our waitress was lovely and the food was really darn good. read more

Oh la la. Kitsch French Seafood at its best - bit pricey, but the fish is freshly bought, daily and cooked so well. Book well in advance, as its popular, but small and often packed. They have a fantastic Surprise 8 course meal for £44.50 with lobster or 39.50 without. The last time I was there, I had La Bouillabaisse du marché - a selection of fish and seafood according to fish market availability, cooked in home-made fish soup. (£12.50 for extra 1/2 lobster) £18.50. It may not be in the best part of London, but its one of London's best known secrets! read more

This small french restaurant in Kennington serves up fresh seafood from Billingsgate, and each dish is cooked with care and to perfection. The restaurant decor was heavy on the kitsch. Seagulls chirped as we walked up to our table. Fish nets and shells adorned the walls. Quite cute really. For the 5 of us we paid over £350. Was it worth it? No. The seafood was indeed fresh and cooked very well but service was lacking. My dear mum changed her main from steak to fish and this atrocity warranted a visit from monsieur chef himself, who was not best pleased. He claimed to have already started the steak, even though we had yet to receive our starters. Novices know you cook steak a la minute. So what he was winging about escapes me still. As a result of this Monsieur 'entitled' made us feel highly uncomfortable. I wanted to say 'hang on mate, are you doing us a favour by cooking us dinner? If that's the case then do you mind if I don't pay £39.50 for the Dover Sole?' I didn't. His little Mario Brother look was oddly intimidating. I have no issue with paying for quality food. We had the good fortune of eating at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay on Monday and the food was ok, but my goodness the service was impeccable. It made me realise that service is just as important to a dining experience as the food is. We were celebrating my Aunt's 60th on this occasion so in merry mode we brushed it off as a silly French chef being temperamental. It was however rude. And for that reason all the food was slightly less tasty. He could do so much better if he let go of the ego. Chef has to learn that if he treats customers badly then he will not have any. Had a great dinner there recently. Unpreposessing entrance, easy enough to find, and you appear to have to ring the bell to get in. Quite tiny inside though not cramped. An exclusively seafood dinner, Oyster Canapes, blue swimming crab, scallops, monkfish, then poached pear & mango tarte tatin. All really very good, some of the best scallop & monkfish I have ever eaten. It's a family owned & run establishment, and you get the feeling of commitment that can bring to your benefit. In overall this is a really nice place. If you are looking for some delicious see food, this is the place. Not very well known place, but those who paid a visit already know whats all about it. Had few friends recommending me this and decided to pay a visit. Food was fantastic, french authentic,mainly sea food. There's a wide variety of dishes and drinks, to begin from starters and end with deserts. Whats nice about the restaurant is that although there's mainly sea food, you can also get some vegeterian dishes as well, thats what a friend of mine had on out last visit. Staff are polite and welcoming, making sure you enjoy your stay. On the other hand are the prices which are a bit high, not surprising really when considering that this is mainly a see food restaurant. My boyfriend and I decided to visit here as it is very near to our flat. The inside of the restaurant is small and cozy. When you first walk in the waiter/waitress takes your coat and seats you. The decor inside resembles the cabin of a boat - decorated with seagulls, lifebuoys and even portholes (with fish tanks & fish inside!). I had the razor clams as an appetizer, they were incredible. We both had a lobster and a half each. For what we got, the service and the atmosphere it was more than worth the price! read more

If you want French and authentic, then this is the place to go. It is unusual in the sense that it is obscurely located and not very well known, but those who have heard of it are avid fans and regular diners. Run by a French couple for over 15years it even closes on a Monday (for those of you who are aware of French customs this immediately screams genuine French authenticity!) The food itself is mainly seafood but it does cater for vegetarians and the odd carnivor. Although a little pricey it is well worth a trip on a special occasion. Try the 8 course suprise menu for a 'true' seafood experience (£43.50 with lobster, £39.50 without) one of the most expensive things on the menu, but is a definate hit for those who love their fish as the selection is truely amazing. The restaurant itself is quaint and very French, with its sloping floors and harbour style decor it only seats 45 and so is very intimate, meaning brilliant service. A must try experience. read more

I came here on a recommendation and thought I would come for lunch. When you arrive you are transported into a boat/port like conversion with unique decoration that you wouldn't seen in any other restaurant. As you could probably tell by the name the restaurant focuses on fish dishes and specials in an 8 course surprise menu which is selected by the chef dependant on what is fresh that day. I unfortunately didn't have time for that so ended up getting a starter and main only. I decided to go for the frog legs to start which was a new experience for me but one I would definitely do again. The sauce that the frogs legs were cooked in was unbelievable and I had to mop every single drop up with the complimentary bread they gave me. The main was monk fish on creole bean sauce which was one of their specials of the day. Again a new combination for me as the fish was part chargrilled and placed on a slightly spiced sauce. The sauce was too spicy and didn't overpower the fish which I was slightly worried about. As I was leaving I had a pleasant chat with the owner who sadly admitted that the restaurant wasn't doing as well as it used to and if business carries on the way it is because of the growth of new restaurants in the City, then he may have to consider closing. I would therefore urge you to at least give this place a go once to show your support as this little gem of an independent restaurant could close just like others around it.
