I love the Local Gentry. They have a variety of clothing and accessories for the whole family as well as gift ideas. While I don't live on the island of Lana'i, I have had a few opportunities to go there and visit this wonderful shop. I love supporting local as I am born and raised on Maui, and love supporting these businesses where you can see the passion and dedication for what they do. They bring great quality items that I have worn/used myself or given as gifts. I love that their items are not easily found at other stores. Received many compliments on the clothing and I love gifting unique bags and accessories. And during this stay at home time we are in, their live videos to showcase items where you can order and they ship to you has been even more fun! Interesting mixed experience at this shop. There's only 2 shops for gifts in the city. Items here are on the trendier side but honestly the shop-clerk/boss was not the nicest. She was outright passive-aggressive and bordering on unhinged. She snapped at us to not open the shirts, saying they're up on the wall if we want to see what they look like. It made us not want to touch anything. Then she told another customer who was looking at another set of shirts: "these designs are so old. I told Genna(?) to get some new ones in. Nobody wants these." That doesn't really make you want to buy a shirt for anyone special right. The kicker was when she said "why is everyone coming here today? everyones looking for an outfit to wear for graduation. So last minute! Not me, I'd have something ready 20 days before." The other clerk seemed to try to save the day by saying "we like it when we're busy." Our crew exited right away. Not the Aloha spirit IYKWIM. read more

The staff was very friendly and they have some really nice items. They also have larger sizes which is difficult to find on Lanai.

Quality clothing and items with Lāna'i embroidery and labeling. Good sales. Was there for a day, and was glad to stumble into this store.

This is a really cute little store in downtown Lana'i with some seriously friendly staff inside. I was welcomed immediately by a very friendly gal who made pleasant small talk and made me feel right at home. She left me to browse after some general convo and I saw tons of cute t-shirts, flip flops and other little knick knacks and household goods inside. You could come in here and get treats for yourself and friends and family easily to take home and some goodies for the home to remember your stay. It's right in the middle of town so it's close to a coffee shop, some art galleries, a park, and a few other things. It's a must see if you are staying on Lana'i and will be in town. Anyone could find something cute in here to purchase. I saw Lana'i themed shirts, some salt and pepper shakers and some of my favorite flip flops: OluKai. read more

This is one of several little stores that line the central park in Lanai. I'm not sure if they were going for a tourist vibe or more of a place for locals, but it's mostly clothing and gifts. I didn't find anything that I wanted, and neither did my wife, but given that we had a lot of time and little to do in Lanai, it was worth stopping by. read more

This is such a cute store in the heart of Lanai City. Parking is plenty out front and you may even score a spot in the shade. There is a huge variety of clothing here. There's something for everyone from babies to grown men and everyone in between. Lots of fun and colorful items along with things like greeting cards, sunscreen, books and even stationary items. Cute Lanai shirts, hoodies, stickers and more. Definitely a stop to make if you're looking for souvenirs! The prices are pretty consistent of Hawaii. The employee working was so kind and talked story with me for awhile. It's a fun little store with unique items that you may not find anywhere else! I'll definitely be back! read more

I love The Local Gentry on Lanai! They have the cutest clothes and home goods, and their customer service is excellent! I bought the shirt on the left a year ago while visiting Lanai. It quickly became one of my favorite Ts and I wore it so much that I killed it with love. I called TLG to see if I could have a new one shipped to me in Seattle. They didn't have any in my size in stock, but the owner made sure to get one for me when they placed a new order. Then they contacted me not just once, but twice, to see if I still wanted it. YES! They shipped it out quickly, and the shirt is even better than I remember. The owner said they are getting new designs in. I can't wait to go back to Lanai, hopefully before the end of the year, and go shopping at The Local Gentry again. I wish all business were like this one! read more

Lanai City doesn't have much in the way of shopping or fine dining, but what they have is awesome. Especially this shop. The moment you walk in you feel comfortable and can tell the products are quality. Then the warmth, kindness and passion from the owner is just a breath of fresh air. Holy crap, where did this place come from!? If this boutique were in Honolulu, it would be one of my favorite places to shop. To find a shop of this quality in a sleepy hamlet like Lanai City was a total shock and surprise. I could've thrown down some serious dough in here, but I stuck to my guns and only purchased a long-sleeved hoodie since I was freezing my shocked and surprised ass off in chilly upcountry Lanai. Best selection of flip flops I have seen yet in Hawaii. We got to meet the owner and she is fantastic. Extremely helpful and very passionate about the island that it was contagious. The store had all sorts of great clothing items mostly for woman but had a seriously good (on the small side) mens section. For those who think there are not great boutique clothing stores on Lanai then you stand corrected. THERE IS! Wanted to get away from the busy city life in Honolulu, and traded it for a weekend in Lanai. First time at this place in downtown Lanai, walked in on Memorial Day and i stumbled across a pair of beige TOMS ballet flats for only....... $20!!!!!!!!!!! what a steal!! this pair usually runs for $79, so there were 3 boxes left and one of them was my size!! There were also a few pairs of OluKai moccaisan looking shoes, but I opted to skip on it - not really my style. Will come back and browse for some great shopping deals when I'm back in Lanai. read more

I didn't know what to expect when I walked up to this store. There was a rack of assorted clothes hanging outside the door, so I thought it might be a thrift store or possibly a vintage shop. When I walked inside, I was pleasantly surprised to find a cute boutique! There are men's and women's clothes, accessories, shoes, and a few cute "Lanai" branded items. The salesperson (and most likely the owner) was very cheerful and helpful. I contemplated buying a particular shirt and she advised I order a size up because it has a tendency to shrink. Sold! I also purchased an adorable Henley and a beach towel. I'm so excited that I found this little gem in the heart of sleepy Lanai City! read more
