Very cute motel across the Bridge of Lions on Anastasia Island. It's PINK! Retro vibe. The room was adorable with vibrant floral paper. Equipped with TV, fridge, microwave. clothes steamer, hair dryer, and even a sleep sound machine. There is a hydration station in the lobby. There you will find a small table, and seating, coffee machine, assorted loose leaf teas, icemaker and water filling station. Also, a bathroom. The pool is private and we'll kept. Fun colors and flamingo floaties. Just a short distance from Historic Downtown St. Augustine. But also plenty of good restaurants and nice places for cocktails on the blvd. (Walking distance) So glad I found this place. Will be back for sure! read more

When looking for a place to spend our one night in St. Augustine, I came across The Local. I picked it because it looked cute, it wasn't over-the-top expensive, and it was close to the center of St. Augustine. We arrived and the check-in process could have been smoother. We tried to follow the app instructions and it didn't work after multiple tries. We contacted someone from The Local and they were able to help but had to do some work on their end for us to check in. The building itself is cute. Probably was a janky old motel from before that someone bought and redid. It's not the most luxurious spot there is, but it's fun. The room interior is fine. Bathroom was a bit small and felt dated, but it was clean and thematic. After we got our stuff inside, we went to the pool, which was being used by a few groups (another family, a couple women) but wasn't too full. It's not a huge pool, but it worked. Lots of cute inflatables to choose from, and it's not too deep either. There was a photoshoot going on while we were there... I'm assuming people from the hotel? But I don't know. Across the street is a Mexican restaurant, and we ate dinner there. There's also a gas station and convenience store. It's true that this place is on a busy street, but the traffic noise didn't bother me. It's also close-ish to the city but if you have a car, it's easier to get around than to walk. All in all, a good spot to stop for a night, but somehow didn't live up to the promise. The internet and all those Instagram filters made it seem a little nicer than it was in reality. It wasn't terrible though, so if you're not too picky and not staying in St. Augustine too long, it's probably just fine. read more

The location is great, there's a convenience store directly across the street and there are some fun restaurants within walking distance. We liked the fun design of the exterior and the room was clean. The spacious walk in shower with updated tile was a pleasant surprise! Overall we enjoyed our stay. However, the bed is one of the worst I have ever slept in and we both had back pain all weekend. Not sure if it is worth returning for this reason alone unfortunately. My BF and I planned a last minute trip to St Augustine right before Christmas to check out the Nights of Lights. Since it was planned last minute accommodations were insanely expensive at some places we have stayed in the past. The Local came up on my searches and we decided to give it a shot as it was about half the price we were seeing at other hotels in the area. The Local reminded me of a show on saw on netflix Motel Makeover in which two female business partners buy old motels and redo them to make them cute and instagrammable. Exterior is pink, the inside of the rooms have fun tropical wallpaper and there are two mural on the exterior for all your selfies. The rooms have a microwave, mini fridge, and a roku TV. Bathrooms were pretty basic no IG enhancements there. No one works there. There is no lobby or staff which was kinda scary if an emergency happened. Thankfully it wasn't an issue but worth noting. The "lobby" area is a hydration room which has a coffee/espresso/tea maker and a couple of chairs. To check in you use an app in which you have to send a pic of your ID and yourself to be verified and then the app works as a room key. The room key also opens the hydration room. It was cold so we didn't use the pool, basic but looked nice. The flamingo float was the only swimmer that day. Its located on Anastasia Island about 3/4 of a mile from the bridge of Lions. We opted to walk into downtown both nights since traffic was crazy due to Nights of Lights. It wasn't a bad walk due to cold weather and theres a few cool stops to stop at along the way but in the summer it would be brutal. My major issue with the local was the fact you can hear EVERYTHING and I mean everything. The room we had was on the side of the building as the road and you can hear all the cars speeding by. You basically feel like your sleeping with the windows open. On top of that you can hear everything from the adjoining rooms. You can hear their TV noises, sneezes and everything else if you catch my drift. If you are remotely a light sleeper this will be a major issue. While I enjoyed my stay for what it was due to the noise issues I would probably not opt to stay at The Local again. read more

We got mis-influenced... IGers rave about this place but it really wasn't all that amazing. Excellence is in the details..and the attention to detail was lacking (burnt out lightbulb, empty soap dispenser, etc.). The road noise and AC unit were particularly loud making for a couple nights of broken sleep. I haven't seen a TV with such poor quality picture since the switch to HDTV in 2009, sheesh.. Ultimately, probably worth the price point for a clean room, but --let's put it this way --if we were staying for a week I would've found a different place after the first night. read more

We needed a place very last minute, and were pleasantly surprised to see an opening. They use an online app for the door key, which we ran into some difficulties with because we booked through Booking.com. We also couldn't find our room at first, but was very happy to see we had a poolside room in the back. It had everything we needed for a weekend. Great location. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Hotel is addorable and very communicative even though never encountering a human. It is on a main road A1A and extremely busy when we stayed. There was no parking near our room, so we had yo park on the other side of the motel. This upset me. The walls are paper thin and the a/c is very loud.... So much so that they supplied ear plugs! TV remote is sticky (yuck!!). The service was great, text follow up daily and when I needs extra towels they were brought right away and they replaced the lightbulbs which were out. For being a "newly" remodeled motel, the grout was black and there were stains on the counter top and soap ledge in the shower. We ate at Mojo's across the street and at the Full Service Gas Burger place down the street... both had amazing food! Traffic in the area was ridiculous 30 minutes to go 3 miles.... read more

The theme is retro. The amenities are basic. One comfortable bed. Plan to eat at a restaurant or at the pool, no chairs or table in the room. Our room was spotless clean! Our room faced A1A. Try to get a room that does not face A1A. The pool was nice and very clean. There are no trash cans outside of the rooms which is by design to keep the property so clean. Check in was no-contact and simple. Never leave the room without your phone or you will be locked out. We were there Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and never saw anyone manning the office. We were there Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and never needed help from the staff. We rented through VRBO and our host was awesome! It is convenient to walk to a several good places to eat, It is a bit too far to walk across the Bridge of Lions to the historical district. They have electric bikes available to rent. None of the above is a complaint, just pointing out for the benefit of other travelers. Lots of pluses above, enough to choose a return trip sometime. read more

I have wanted to check this adorable boutique hotel out for a year now and finally had the chance. Now, I have to admit, it was a very last kk it's overnight stay and I had a few hick ups however, it wasn't the hotels fault at all, it was an Airbnb issue. So, knowing people make decisions on where to stay based on reviews, I had to chime in after reading the last review posted. 1. St. Augustine is known as the oldest city and thousands travel here to see just that. The best part of St. Augustine is it's historic charm and The Local hotel brings its own little piece of history. Yes, it's a hotel from maybe the 60's. Retro and renovated ADORABLY! 2. I think their concept of contactless check in is REFRESHING. I make this comment even though I had issues. However, my experience and how they handled it was above expectations. Airbnb had an old phone number and it was an issue for Airbnb. I called the number I got on my confirmation after trying to deal with Airbnb and was IMMEDIATELY taken care of by the owner personally. Contactless check in doesn't mean no one is ready to help and if you stay there, you will feel that in their contact process. Not to mention, there was staff there taking care of normal things. 3. What are you looking for? If you are wanting a really great spot for the fun area of at Augustine, this is a perfect spot. So many great places to eat. They have bikes on site you can grab which it also a great to explore the area and even into downtown. I do see this as a more adult place for a couple or maybe a birthday group/bachelorette party. I wrote this to share my experience but also, to encourage others that enjoy a unique experience another perspective. My husband and I stayed for a night for a concert at the amphitheater. I've been wanting to stay here for quite a while now after seeing all their cute Instagram posts! We had an issue with my phone being able to connect to the mobile key for our room but Leila , the owner was able to help us. She went above and beyond to help us and try to figure out the problem! The location is great for anyone going to the amphitheater or downtown ! Very close to many nearby shops and restaurants as well. So glad I found this place! Saw it on a random TikTok during the Barbie craze and decided to stay for a night on a road trip home from FL to KY. We usually are Marriott people, so the bar is set pretty high. We loved it here! Didn't feel unsafe at all with the exterior corridor as the surrounding area is very nice. Room itself was spotless - decorated so cute and comfortable! Pool area was so cute and fun as well - especially the towels! Enjoyed the aesthetic in the "lobby" and just the property in general. Loved the concept of a modernized retro roadside motel. The app with the virtual room key drained my phone battery a decent amount which is my only real complaint here. Price was cheap but appropriate given lack of overhead/breakfast etc. Be sure to try Osteens shrimp nearby - we loved it! read more

We had such a good experience at the local. The staff was nice and helpful, the whole aesthetic of the motel was BEAUTIFUL with so many fun photo opportunities and the rooms were extremely clean. The rooms are pretty small, but they have all you need and this didn't bother us as we were away from our room most of the time. The location of this motel is PERFECT. It is very close to downtown as well as a short drive to the beach. You are provided with a mini fridge, microwave and shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There is also a latte machine/ tea machine in the front and bike rentals if you would rather leave your car. The only complaint I would have is there are a lot of parking spots, but they fill up quick and they aren't super accessible for larger trucks if the lot is full. We only had an issue with parking once but it was resolved as we waited in our truck until somebody left. I would say we got lucky because we were on the second floor on the end so we didn't hear much of anybody in other rooms until the morning we were leaving. The AC unit is extremely loud and can be frustrating if you can't sleep to loud noises, but this wasn't an issue for us as we understand it is an old unit and it also blocked out the noise of the neighbors when there was noise. If you watch tv at night, I would suggest bringing a fire stick and hooking it up to the tv because our tv only had one channel. If you are looking for a place to eat there is a toasted sub place right next door that had some of the best subs we have ever had. Overall such a cute motel, great price and totally worth it. If we come to this area again we will be back! read more

My wife and I called it "our cell". No ice machine! WTF? Even motel 6 has a frigging ice machine. Towels were clean but smelled a little mildewed. No hooks or places to hang anything in the room. No smart TV in a supposedly modern hotel. Noisy guests. Too far walking distance from the historic district. Super small fridge with no freezer compartment. No laundry facilities. This would be a great hotel if I was 20 and single, but I couldn't have afforded a hotel when I was 20. Now that I'm 50, and affluent this place loses its charm for me. Could be my preference though. Which is why I give it three versus two stars. It is clean, which I can say is a lot better than places I stayed in my 20's! read more

Great location and nicely renovated mid mod motel that is dog friendly. Excellent coffee and tea in the lobby. Decent bed with great pillows and extra blanket if needed. App based keycard could not be easier. Good Wi-Fi. Stayed in room 105 there was street noise as expected. Coffee maker in room. Windows were unlocked and unscreened. I noticed when opening them to air out the taco smell from the delicious tacos we got across the street. Otherwise it felt safe. Good food within walking distance and in a central location. I highly enjoyed my stay at The Local. My room was on the opposite side of the busy road and on a side street. My room was only next to the laundry room so I can't attest to not hearing any other rooms at night. My bed was actually very comfortable. I've been on a road-trip for a week and it was by far the most comfortable bed I've had yet and the best sleep I've had. I traveled by myself and felt very comfortable in the neighborhood. A gas station is right across the street and there was multiple restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. I would definitely stay here again! read more

Don't roll into town on a busy holiday weekend without a hotel reservation like we did! The local was clean and relatively recently redone but the paper thin walls overlooking Saint Augustines dragstrip of a road gave us no peace during the night. Even worse than that was the paper thin walls... I mean these seriously have to be paper thin with not an ounce of insulation. We could hear every sneeze, burp, fart, phone buzzing, every single word spoken, giggle, and of course the best sounds from the neighbor and guests were while they were in bed together. One particular slam which may have been the neighboring room's door, the wall shook and our headboard visibly shook and scared the daylights out of us... In the morning just before departure the management knocked once and said "management" and without any delay opened the door... Just a suggestion, you should wait a second or two before you walk in! Fortunately we were up and prepping to leave... The app they use for contactless/staffless check in didn't work which added to the amount of time it took For check-in but the after hours person we spoke to was super friendly and sincere. Because of her attitude and a clean room I gave them two stars instead of one but for $200 for a teensy tiny room, we would not stay again. read more

The Local is absolute perfection. I have had a crush on this motel forever and, despite it being a stressful time, as I had to come down and see that our home in St Augustine sustained a lot of damage during Hurricane Ian, I was excited for the opportunity to stay there. And I was over the moon, when I realized I could bring my dog! It did not disappoint. Though I arrived late, the first thing I did was take a ton of photos to share with everyone I knew. But, before I even arrived, I was impressed with the personal touch of receiving text messages that they were anticipating my arrival, and not to hesitate to reach out, if I needed anything. And, the entire stay, I truly appreciated the check ins. My room was adorable, comfortable, and I did not want for a single thing. And, for those that are in town to visit old town St Augustine, it is just a quick 10 min walk. I highly recommend watching the sunrise over the Bridge of Lions. Also, their Instagram page is a must follow as it showcases how adorable this place is, but it also is just a page full of happiness. I am truly looking forward to my next stay. read more
