In the past, it has even been home to footballers including Benjamin Mendy, Leroy Sane and Zlatan, it is also a regular haunt for away football teams including PSG who stayed here ahead of their game versus United, I even managed to see Kylian Mbappe in the lift! Considering this is a "five-star" hotel, it does sometimes have good, affordable deals, I paid £100 for my room on a Sunday in early February, with breakfast costing just £12.50 more for two people, but rooms do often go much higher often costing between £126 and £200, and sometimes going much higher than that so the hotel is generally on the pricey side most of the time. I still don't understand why third-party booking agents are so much cheaper even by 20%+ in some cases, which was the reason I booked my reservation through Hotels.com Check out is far too early at 11, but they had no problem extending it to a more suitable time. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was greeted by a lovely employee who helped me into check-in and then shown me my room, kind and helpful, making sure I had everything I needed, including lowering the card hold from £100 to £1.50 because I didn't plan on any extras. The service in most cases was impeccable, one of the maids even offered to turn the bed over after emptying my minibar. The hotel lobby is also stunning, I was offered water on check-in which was infused with mint and lemon and tasted great. There was also two bottles of complimentary water in my room including fresh fruit accompanied by a personalised, hand-written welcome note, a lovely touch. Sadly they could only place me on the second floor, however, the room seemed to be mostly quiet as there were multiple doors between the lift, there was standard corridor noise but this wasn't as bad as other hotels, every door and lift in the hotel did require the room key - inconvenient but a safety feature. This hotel is stunning and modern, with large smart TVs including all Sky Sports channels (best TV in a hotel!), USB and European charging plugs. (I would have liked one closer to the bed!) The room also has a nice glass desk which is a perfect, spacious work area. Other modern features include a switch to open and close the blinds in the room, as well as a "do not disturb" switch rather than the sign which is used in 99% of hotels. I also liked how the hotel relied less on natural light which many modern hotels do now, hence having lights around the room including above each individual bed which can be turned on/off in parallel, making the room much brighter & nicer. I found my room to be warm and spacious, the heating system was easy to use and much quicker than other hotels I've stayed in again. The large bathroom with a stunning walk-in shower also was excellent. Information provided to guests from the excellent staff at reception and even through the live-chat system either with a senior hotel staff member or Edward, the virtual assistant which can answer most problems instantly which all hotel guests get. If the issue is too complex for Edward, the hotel gets back to you quite quickly such as when I had an issue with the fire drill - I was phoned in under an hour to confirm it is generally around 2 pm on a Monday. The hotel operator when needed, answered the phone quickly even at busy times. My room was almost perfect with a great TV and a comfy bed. I would have liked: having a pen instead of a pencil, earl grey tea in addition to English Breakfast & Chamomile and a larger bed. (I was given a room with two twin beds.) The tea however from the high-end Newby brand was fantastically luxurious. The wi-fi was super fast, with download speeds of around 90 Mbps, it is by far the fastest wifi I've experienced in a hotel. A decent breakfast is served in the Peter Street Kitchen between 7 and 10:30 Monday-Saturday (+1/2 an hour for Sundays & bank holidays). I added it at a reduced rate of £6.25 from £20. I was told it wouldn't be possible to put an extra bed into a double room - therefore I was offered an upgrade for my next visit to the hotel later that week to the stunning Junior Suite. It was simply spectacular with a huge, comfy bed, an even bigger TV, coffee machine, a personalised housekeeper & more. In over 2100 reviews and close to 50 hotel reviews, I've never seen a hotel like this - luxurious, fantastic and with my only complaint is there's nothing to complain about, so with great delight, I am awarding the Edwardian a coveted five-star rating with the only main improvement being to keep working at this standard.

We stayed here recently for a long weekend, paying £350 for a double room without breakfast. We asked for a quiet room so were put on the 12th floor at the end of the corridor. Anyway, Motel One is a chain of German budget hotels, known for their relatively small, minimalist bedrooms. The one at Piccadilly is very close to the railway station (about 2 minutes from the Fairfield St exit, by the Metrolink station) , and well placed for those visiting the nearby Gay Village. The hotel itself is an a modern high-rise building, and has over 300 bedrooms. The foyer/reception area on the ground floor has two entrances (on Whitworth St and London Rd). The foyer is very grand in a modern way, and includes the bar area and seating as well as the reception. It is also when breakfast is served in the morning. Decoration is provided in part by three vapour-effect log fires and a log fire running continuously on a TV screen, plus a selection of wall-mounted guitars. There's a lot to comment on, so best set out as the pluses and minuses: Plusses: * Location perfect for Piccadilly Railway Station, trams and taxis, and also the Gay Village, and close enough to the shopping and nightlife areas * Check-in was straightforward and the reception staff were friendly and efficient * The room was spotlessly clean * The bathroom, though compact, had a decent, reasonable if not "power shower" and nice fluffy towels * Comfy queen size beds with nice bed linen * Very good free Wifi * Room service was good Neutral: * The rooms are on the small side; no wardrobe (only wall hanging rails), one tiny desk - but that is a feature of this chain (so good for a weekend, not for long stays or those with lots of luggage). * The room design has clever space saving touches, like the kettle and tea/coffee being in a small wall cupboard * The rooms have only cardboard cups - no glasses or china mugs * The £10.50 breakfast is a buffet, served in the foyer. The cereals, yogurts and fruit salad were quite a walk from the seating area (which is by the main door - get the wrong table and you'll have a draught every time someone walks past). But plenty of choice otherwise and we enjoyed the breakfast. Minuses: * Sound proofing is poor inside and out: from inside you can hear other guests closing their doors (which had a tendency to slam) and conversations in adjacent rooms. * The hotel is right by the tram tracks, and the sound of their horns, and their wheels squealing on the tracks, penetrates even the triple glazing. Light sleepers would be advised to pack ear plugs (trams run 05:45 to 01:00). * There were no instructions except for the heating/cooling (which didn't cool at all, but we opened a window instead). * Privacy: many of the rooms look at/are overlooked across a narrow passage by the offices opposite. Since there is no obscure glazing or net curtains, the only option if you want privacy in working hours is to close the curtains. * The absence of a telephone means if you need anything, or have a problem, you have to go down to reception. * the biggest issue for me was that the lifts (situated between the front door and the reception desk) have no security card system, so basically anybody can walk into the hotel and access all the accommodation floors. (Plus there are no spy-holes in the bedroom doors, so you don't actually know who is in the corridor outside.) On our visit, we saw some very odd people in the corridors - I think they were delivering food etc. But I think it is something that needs to be looked at. So, overall, it suited our purposes, and the friendly staff and cleanliness meant we had no issues - but I was glad I brought ear plugs. With breakfast, I'm not sure over £400 for 3 days is really in a budget class, but it is central, comfortable (if you don't have too much luggage), and clean.

Overnight the bed was comfy, good amount of pillows and a warm doona (duvet). Downside was that there seemed to be quite a lot of doors opening/closing in the hall which I found disruptive even though I normally sleep through everything. Breakfast was good but I only had time to sample the continental. The Manchester branch is situated about three minutes from the Piccadilly Station and very convenient to all major transportation in the area. The hotel's bones come from a 1851 era building that served as a factory and warehouse. They've added on a modern wing to the building, and other than the lovely street facade you'll be hard pressed to find original details. None the less, the interior does not disappoint, with heavy usage of strong grey, black, and purple colors in the rooms and hallways. It's a thoroughly modern palette that feels posh, not stripped down. Brittany A. and I checked in after arriving on a busy Sunday afternoon. The proximity to Piccadilly Station makes it an attractive location, especially since we were lugging an extra large suitcase and dog in tow. Check in was fast, however they are sticklers for a 3PM check in time. We showed up at 2:50PM and had to wait ten minutes for our room to be ready. No worries though, the staff took our luggage for room delivery while we enjoyed coffee from the attached Starbucks. The hotel is dog friendly, although they don't go out of their way to advertise the fact. We paid £10 extra for our one night, and a large dog bed and bowl was awaiting our pooch in the room. Our digs were a large corner room on the fourth floor (there are five total). It featured a large king sized bed, desk and chair, two large lounge chairs, a 40 inch LED television, large closet with a refrigerator, and a bathroom with both tub and a walk-in shower with rain-shower head. The bed is a major highlight. The mattress is a Sealy, firm but comfortable, and the linens and duvet felt brand new. I could have used a couple of extra pillows though. I had one of the best nights sleep in awhile on the bed, and I could see myself coming back just for that reason. A minor complaint of the room is the lighting. Coupled with the setback of the sink, it was quite difficult to shave properly in the morning. Check out is generously at noon, giving you enough time to pop downstairs for breakfast and get ready at a nice pace. Our room package (a steal at £105) included two glasses of prosecco from the lobby bar and continental breakfast. The muesli with fresh fruit and granola is a real standout at breakfast. The coffee is weak for my tastes, but at least the Starbucks is a few steps away. I haven't felt this pampered since staying at the Mondrian in London, and at such a bargain, you'll have more pounds to enjoy in Manchester. Overall I can't recommend the Malmaison Manchester enough. It has character and charm (check out the canal running underneath), and a high level of service that will make you feel well treated.

As for the rooms, they were very clean. The one thing was that the they were completely out of soap in our room, was surprised they didn't check it before they let us live inside. However, I do have to give the place three stars for its breakfast. We paid extra for it but yet they completely ran out of all foods when we got there. The place was incredibly underfilled and they even didn't have any breads which is literally what these continental breakfast have an abundance of. Was quite disappointed. Would highly recommend this hotel but just don't get the breakfast. As a note, if you want to store your luggage at that place, you do need pay a pound which is not bad but just a good note to have.

Now until today I had no idea there were any notable destinations to frequent in these neck of woods. I was pleasantly proven wrong by Bredbury hall. Invited by a friend to attend a charity dinner with live entertainment, I found the offer hard to refuse. Especially since I had been informed that the food was fantastic. Upon arriving I immediately realized that this venue had the je ne sais quoi factor. It had an air of devere about it, a mark of quality if you like. The entrance was understated yet classy. With a 150 room hotel, an impressive nightclub (which I cannot wait to check out) and a restaurant this really is a destination venue. The club has an atmospheric tunnel linked to the hotel, which takes you into the 16th Century Barn which as you can imagine is very spacious. An extensive dance floor awaits for those keen to boogey all night. And for those not inclined to the boogey there are plenty of relaxed areas to chill-out with friends. I arrived at the restaurant to a wonderful ambience, a perfect balance of chitter chatter and soothing live piano concerto. With the pleasantries and conversations commencing, I glanced at the set menu, stomach rumbling. I waited intently, ready, weapons in hand, alert and ready to eliminate the food. Although this wasn't strictly the same menu as the restaurant's, it was cooked by the same team of chefs that set and cook for the normal menu. For example the Confit of Pheasant presented with Parma Ham and new Potato Salad, with Cranberry dressing, was replaced with a confit of goose, duck, pheasant and patridge sat on a sweet cider jelly with quince and rocket salad. The meat was juicy and delicious and wet the appetite perfectly for what was to come. The pan fried king scallops were delightfully served on artichoke base with asparagus and garnished well with Chorizo and crayfish. The main of pan fried Australian Beef fillet was succulent and garnished well again but this time with a root vegetable parcel, fondant potatoes and woodland mushrooms (not the kind you get high on). The sauce it was served with was Bordelaise which was ooh lala indeed. The only complaint I had was I didn't quite manage to pluck up the courage to steal some of my neighbor's Fillet of Seabass. Which looked well cooked with capers, roasted peppers and rocket salad. It just sat there withering away with each of my neighbors mouthfuls saying "eat me " try me" "pleaseeeeee" Ah well you snooze you lose. The evening was concluded with a string of impressive balads by the second live performer, Simone who was both glamarous and extremely talented. At least I can say in the future I saw her perform when she wasn't famous!!! The trio of home made desserts sealed what will be my swift second coming to Bredbury Hall. The Chef's here are very talented and the management have done really well to raise the bar when it comes to the f&b at the restaurant. This was definitely evident tonight. The food was good!!! I will definitely be returning to try out the other options on the menu. Let the escapism fun begin when I also return to the night club on a saturday. Plan of action seems very clear. Book a room, check. Dine at the restaurant, check. Night club, check. After party in the suite, check mate!!
